<ul class="summary-list"><li>Jeffree Star, Tati Westbrook, and other influencers once ruled the beauty side of YouTube.</li><li>Now, they're taking over TikTok with lengthy livestreams focused on selling products.</li></ul><p>A livestream hosted by<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jeffree-star-wyoming-from-la-mansion-yak-ranch-timeline-2021-8"> Jeffree Star</a> filled my iPhone screen during a late-night TikTok<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/new-study-finds-doomscrolling-leads-to-bad-physical-mental-health-2022-9"> doomscroll</a> in June.</p><p>Wearing a baby-blue Western blouse with fringe detailing and a wig of the same shade, Star stood behind a pink desk with beauty influencer Paul Dao. Together, they promoted lip gloss and other products from Jeffree Star Cosmetics.</p><p>It had been a long time since I'd watched Star's content, which usually highlights his lavish lifestyle and harsh but honest makeup opinions. He's also known for getting involved in internet scandals. As memories of<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/dramageddon-youtube-jeffree-star-manny-mua-laura-lee-gabriel-zamora-2021-8"> "dramageddon"</a> in 2018 flashed through my mind, I shuddered and scrolled away.</p><p>But 10 minutes later, TikTok showed me yet another livestream: this one from OG beauty YouTuber <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/youtuber-tati-westbrook-life-career-story-2020-11">Tati Westbrook</a>, who attempted to sell me a hair curler — a far cry from the cult-favorite<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tati-westbrook-new-makeup-brand-2019-10"> eyeshadow palette</a> she created in 2019 — through the small screen.</p><p>I shouldn't have been surprised to see either peddling products. Influencers have always been, at least to some extent, glorified salespeople. Still, I couldn't help but cringe. Their voices sounded different, like anxious sales reps trying to get my attention. There was a blatant urge to sell, sell, sell.</p><p>Some millennial-aged viewers shared similar, and often harsher, thoughts.</p><p>"I'm sad. I used to be able to trust all of your reviews because you were doing it for the love of the game. Not commission. ," one person commented on one of Westbrook's TikToks promoting her recent stream.</p><p>"You are getting worse than Kylie Jenner," another person wrote on one of Star's videos. "It's every other day some kind of BS sale or relaunch. I miss the old Jeffree Star, this new desperate JS sucks!!"</p><p>I was right there with them. Seeing these larger-than-life figures go from the top of the beauty food chain to hosting flash sales QVC-style was jarring. But as I later realized, their tactic is also kind of genius: They're using a free platform to directly sell to consumers while also increasing their brand awareness.</p><h2 id="a37382ed-7f93-446c-af1a-672ba960b013">YouTubers turned TikTokers</h2><p id="a37382ed-7f93-446c-af1a-672ba960b013">Rewind a few years and beauty influencers dominated the cosmetics industry alongside the audiences they built<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/youtube-beauty-everything-you-need-to-know-jeffree-james-nikkietutorials-2020-3"> on YouTube</a> — even when their careers were rife with scandal.</p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.forbes.com/pictures/gjdm45jih/7-michelle-phan-3-mil/">Forbes</a> reported Michelle Phan, who is widely credited as the first internet makeup influencer, as one of the top-earning YouTubers of 2015 with $3 million in annual revenue. Lucrative beauty businesses only exploded from there.</p><p>YouTuber Jaclyn Hill famously collaborated with Becca Cosmetics on a glimmering highlighter in 2016, bringing the company <a target="_blank" href="https://wwd.com/beauty-industry-news/color-cosmetics/latest-becca-x-jaclyn-hill-collaboration-did-3-5-million-in-sales-with-online-launch-10438768/">$3.5 million</a> in online sales across five hours. Two years later,<a target="_blank" href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/natalierobehmed/2018/12/03/highest-paid-youtube-stars-2018-markiplier-jake-paul-pewdiepie-and-more/"> Forbes </a>said Star reached $18 million in annual earnings — partially because of one of his<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jeffree-star-made-20-million-on-eyeshadow-palette-shane-dawson-2019-10"> stand-out products</a> brought in $20 million when it first launched, as Star told fellow YouTuber Shane Dawson.</p><p>Star then created a collaboration line with Dawson, who's best known for posting controversial comedy sketches and videos exploring conspiracy theories. Before it was released in 2019, Star's team estimated the makeup line would make<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jeffree-star-reveals-shane-dawson-palette-could-make-10-million-2019-10"> at least $35 million</a> if<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jeffree-star-shane-dawson-makeup-sold-out-2019-11"> it sold out</a>, which it did almost immediately.</p><p>However, after years of influencer feuds, multiple cancellations, and the pandemic, beauty YouTubers found themselves floundering, Alex Rawitz, the director of research and insights at the influencer-marketing platform CreatorIQ, said.</p><p>Stars like Charles went from earning tens of millions of views on YouTube videos to just over one million per post, and TikTokkers like <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mikayla-nogueira-background-controversy-feud-mascara-2023-1">Mikayla Nogueira,</a> with her nearly 16 million followers, stepped into their spotlights.</p><p>"They used to be at the top of our creator leaderboards, driving the most engagement for brands and being at the forefront of the industry," Rawitz told Business Insider. "They were replaced by people who still did tutorials but were doing very quick cuts and 20-second bite-sized things more adapted for modern attention spans."</p><div type="image" title="James Charles, Tati Westbrook, Jeffree Star" height="946" width="1887" msid="112708547" hostid="261" sizebytes="98822"></div><p id="a37382ed-7f93-446c-af1a-672ba960b013">Some of YouTube's best and brightest<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/james-charles-jeffree-star-comeback-canceled-youtube-over-2023-7"> attempted to resurface</a> in 2023, like Charles, who made a splash with a Cosmopolitan cover story, and Star, who opened his combination<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jeffree-star-store-grand-opening-review-photos-casper-wyoming-2023-7"> meat and makeup store</a> in Wyoming.</p><p>But OG beauty influencers really cracked the comeback code when they entered the wild world of TikTok livestreaming, earning them revived reputations and revenue.</p><p>Star began hosting virtual events on the platform in 2023, and Westbrook hosted<a target="_blank" href="https://www.tiktok.com/@tatiwestbrook/video/7354803488783715627"> her first livestream</a> in April of this year. Fellow beauty YouTubers James Charles and Laura Lee also followed suit.</p> <p id="a37382ed-7f93-446c-af1a-672ba960b013">These creators have often taken an interactive sales approach with their streamed events.</p><p>Star, for example, has hosted makeup masterclasses alongside professional artists so that viewers can learn how to use specific products from his brand, Jeffree Star Cosmetics, and then receive discounts on them via<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tiktok-shop-better-at-keeping-customers-than-temu-shein-2024-4"> TikTok Shop</a>.</p><p>Charles, on the other hand, has focused his efforts on making his brand's cosmetic sponge the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.tiktok.com/@jamescharles/video/7403479049974205727?lang=en">top-selling makeup blender</a> on the platform.</p><p>Westbrook and Lee have taken a different approach, seemingly partnering with companies to sell products for them on the TikTok commerce platform at discounted rates. Still, they've made their efforts personal.</p><p>Lee, like Star, has packed orders by hand on camera during their livestreams, and Westbrook has demonstrated the tools and makeup she's promoted on herself.</p><p>In doing so, Rawitz said that these creators merge the old-school ways of long-form YouTube content with the modern, quick-moving platform of TikTok.</p><p>"They don't necessarily have to learn new tricks or try to adapt with creators who are coming up within the short-form video ecosystem," he said. "Instead, they can have a more discursive stream with their followers where they're talking about whatever comes to mind, talking about their day, but also selling product."</p><div type="image" title="Influencer Laura Lee hosts a TikTok livestream." height="2600" width="1290" msid="112708545" hostid="261" sizebytes="138176"></div><p id="a37382ed-7f93-446c-af1a-672ba960b013">Star, Westbrook, and Lee all go live at least once a week — with Star often streaming a few times weekly across two accounts: his personal and brand page. And when they do, it can last for hours. A TikTok live on the Jeffree Star Cosmetics page hosted on July 24 lasted around four hours, while Westbrook was live for eight hours straight on July 10.</p><p>Leah Spector, the director of communications and content at CreatorIQ, said these lengthy livestreams are strategic for earning revenue, maintaining engagement, and attracting new fans.</p><p>"The longer you go live, the more likely you are to capture new viewers throughout," she told BI. "When I see that there's 20,000 people watching a live, I'm like, 'Oh, something interesting must be happening. Let me join in.' It's simply a numbers game of getting more people to join, even if they drop out pretty quickly."</p><h2 id="a8007cff-9f23-437a-8383-dbe38a08fe16"><strong>Influencers don't care if it's cringe — and they shouldn't</strong></h2><p id="6af60e63-3ba4-4315-aa09-5f03bd8d4e20">Westbrook, in particular, has been inundated with criticism and cringe callouts each time she's promoted her livestreams on TikTok.</p><p>"This feels like HSN," one person commented on her page, while others joked she's in her "QVC era."</p><p>Influencers, however, seem to be in on the joke. Westbrook posted a video on July 10 poking fun at her livestreams.</p><p>"Clearly, creators don't mind and are leaning into the potential cringiness of the format," Rawitz said.</p> <p id="6af60e63-3ba4-4315-aa09-5f03bd8d4e20">They can do so with the help of longtime fans standing behind them. Mazaiah Hutchinson, a 27-year-old from Pennsylvania, has watched beauty influencers for over a decade. She told BI that, naturally, she's followed stars like Westbrook to TikTok.</p><p>She views livestreams as a way to connect with her favorite creators and finds the QVC style of selling to be nostalgic.</p><p>"We look up to these creators, so it's really nice to be in their presence," Hutchinson said. "You can send a comment and immediately get a response back. You can actually see in real time what they're doing."</p><p>In some ways, I understand the appeal.</p><p>While writing this analysis, I tuned into a livestream hosted on the Jeffree Star Cosmetics account. As random makeup artists loudly did product demos for two hours, I found myself wishing something more exciting would happen — like an appearance from Star himself.</p><h2 id="e3f6e400-9adc-4054-8222-87334c14392b">Beauty business moves</h2><p id="e3f6e400-9adc-4054-8222-87334c14392b">TikTok livestreaming is a big business with big money attached.</p><p>ASMR influencer Lucy Davis <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-do-tiktokers-make">previously told BI</a> that she earns between $20 and $300 each time she streams, while Jakey Boehm, a TikToker who streams himself sleeping, said he's earned $34,000 in a single month.</p><p>Rawitz said that while it's unclear exactly how much these beauty influencers are personally earning through these live streams, hosting them has obvious benefits. They have the potential to earn money through products they sell, donations sent by viewers, and new fans who become regular consumers.</p><p>In the words of one fan who commented on a post from Star: "You bring the beauty, I'll bring the debit card."</p><p>"If they're devoting this much time to it, then it is likely profitable for them and likely, in the end, profitable for the brand," he said.</p><p>That's not to mention how crucial TikTok Shop has been to the success of beauty labels in 2024 — especially when influencers promote their products.</p><p>According to CreatorIQ, Jeffree Star has generated at least $686,298 in<a target="_blank" href="https://www.creatoriq.com/blog/earned-media-value-emv"> Earned Media Value (EMV)</a> for E.l.f. Cosmetics via TikTok this year so far. EMV is a metric used throughout the social media industry — and analyzed with proprietary technology at CreatorIQ —to help determine the value of any creator's social-media content about different brands.</p> <p id="6af60e63-3ba4-4315-aa09-5f03bd8d4e20">Ultimately, the benefit of these lengthy live streams seemingly exceeds profit.</p><p>Creators who once needed expensive lighting rigs, scandal-proof scripts, and hours to edit YouTube videos can now casually hop on live streams without any of that. Better yet, they can also have employees host for them.</p><p>Live events, especially those that last hours, aren't always recorded, so the chances of becoming embroiled in a scandal are arguably less likely.</p><p>But maybe most importantly, beauty influencers no longer need audiences to worship them, watching every clip they post across every social media platform. Instead, they just need us to stick around long enough to make a purchase.</p>

I'm going to run through each quickly so you can neurotically clean your belongings like I've been doing.</p><p>The first method is washing with extra-virgin olive oil and dish soap, which I saw from this YouTube video by Nicole Guerriero. I used Dawn because that's what I had opened, but any brand would work, and if it's antibacterial, that's better. I will be washing my liquid-foundation brush that I use every single day, so this one is pretty gunky. I'm also trying this with two of my eye-shadow brushes and a mini <keyword id="4152283" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="beauty-blender">beauty blender</keyword>. First you pour the dish soap and olive oil onto a plate. You wet your brushes, then swirl the brushes into the mixture. You swirl it on the palm of your hand, but I saved that part until I was by my sink to avoid a mess. I swirled each brush for a few seconds. Pretty easy. The eye-shadow brushes definitely had the most residue come off, and the <keyword id="6354629" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="beauty">beauty</keyword> blender was kind of annoying to grip. Then I rinsed them for a few minutes until all the soap was gone. I made sure I washed my brushes pointed down. If you wash the brushes pointed up towards the water, you risk getting water into the handle and loosening up the glue that keeps the bristles together. Dish soap, especially if antibacterial, helps get a lot of the product off. The extra-virgin olive oil can help break down the makeup and will also moisturize the bristles so they don't dry out. I did have to add more dish soap on my foundation brush and the beauty blender to get all the makeup off. Once the water ran clear, I placed them on a white paper towel to dry overnight.</p><p>And there you go. Pretty clean. The bristles still felt the same as before. Not overly hydrated, but still very soft. There was a section of the beauty blender that was still a little dirty though, but maybe it's just time to replace that one.</p><p>The second method is washing the brushes with white vinegar, hot water, and, again, dish soap, which I saw YouTuber Kayleigh Noelle recommend. I will be washing my bronzer brush, which is super thick and absorbs a lot of product. This brush always takes me the longest to wash. And, again, another eye-shadow brush and another mini beauty blender. You can use a glass jar or a regular glass cup like I did. You pour a cup of hot water, a tablespoon of dish soap, and a tablespoon of white vinegar. Then you dip your brushes into the mixture. That's a technique I've never tried before. Obviously, I didn't think of the buoyancy force of the water with the sponge, so I had to dip the beauty blenders so they could really soak up the water. But I instantly saw the water change color, and in just a few seconds, my brushes started to look a lot cleaner. White vinegar is a natural cleaning product and disinfectant. It can also be very strong, so it's important to dilute it. After 20 minutes, I rinsed it off, and, wow, was this a breeze! The makeup washed off so fast, which is great because I didn't have to use a lot of water. And, again, I placed them down flat on a white paper towel to dry overnight.</p><p>And here they are, perfectly clean. I was concerned the brushes would still smell like vinegar, but once the brushes dried, the strong smell went away. Texture-wise, both this method and the one with olive oil left my brushes feeling the same. Next time I will probably use a wider cup or jar so I don't get the handle in the mixture.</p><p>Another way to clean the brushes is with a gentle shampoo, like baby shampoo or castile soap. You're also going to need apple cider vinegar. I'll be washing my concealer brush with this method, my sister's bronzer brush, another eye-shadow brush, and another mini beauty blender. I used castile soap because I had that on hand. I poured a little bit on the brush and massaged it with my fingers. I lathered, rinsed, and repeated about four times for the larger brushes until the brushes were clean. This method requires a bit more work, but it's the technique that I'm most familiar with, so I didn't mind. Then, in a small bowl, pour 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and 2 tablespoons of water and swirl the brush in there to disinfect. Then rinse that off and let it dry.</p><p>And voilà! The castile soap with apple cider vinegar really got the brushes super clean, and the soap really helped the brushes smell the best out of the three options.</p><p>I'm happy to report that all of these methods do in fact work, so give them a try the next time you have to wash your makeup brushes. I used a bunch of the brushes when I applied makeup, and they felt good as new. The second method definitely takes the least amount of work when it comes to physically cleaning the brushes with your hands and saving some water, so that's a plus. And for that, the second method would have to be my favorite. You can purchase that lipstick online, but if you walk into a Sephora and try it on, you'll know how it really looks. But using makeup testers has always come with <keyword id="6354750" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="health">health</keyword> risks, and now with the <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> pandemic, the era of the makeup tester may have definitively come to an end. </p><p>Representatives from Sephora and Ulta told Insider that the makeup testers in their stores would be there simply for display. It was a reminder that viruses can live on lip balms and lipsticks, and that makeup testers, though delightful, could spread disease.</p><p>One <a href="https://sfamjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/jam.14479">2019 study</a> found that at least 70% of all the lipsticks, lip glosses, eyeliners, mascaras and beauty blenders they tested had "significant levels of microbial contamination." And researchers have been saying this since at least 1971, when a <a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/18171778_Microbial_Contamination_in_Ocular_Cosmetics">study</a> showed that 43% of eyeliners and mascara wands are contaminated.</p><p>"It has been well established that make up brushes and by extension make up testers are a breeding ground for microorganisms like bacteria," dermatologist Dr. Joshua Zeichner, director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at the Mount Sinai Hospital, told Insider. It's that moist environment of liquid and cream that creates a cozy home for microorganisms.</p><p>"We know about <keyword id="8763838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="covid-19">COVID-19</keyword> living on inanimate objects for several hours to up to a few days," he added. "Since make up testers and brushes are applied directly to the face, the risk of potential spread of an infectious organism is amplified because of proximity to the mouth and nose."</p><h2><strong>Beauty chains like Sephora and Ulta hope customers will be OK with looking at samples</strong></h2><p>It took Sephora nine weeks to come up with its new <a href="https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20200519005259/en/Sephora-Measured-Supportive-Approach-Reopening-Select-Retail">re-opening protocols,</a> which included six feet markers around registers and other crowded areas, mandatory face masks and temperature checks for employees, and testers put out for display only. </p><p>"We are not speculating about the future of testers right now," said an Ulta representative, "but do anticipate continued innovation in the in-store experience which may or may not include testers." For now, Ulta's testers exist to give visual cues to shoppers looking items like eyeshadow palettes. </p><p>This might cost beauty chains some business in the future, as many makeup sales are made after people sample the project. Annie Jackson, COO of Credo Beauty, told <a href="https://www.glossy.co/beauty/in-store-beauty-retail-will-be-changed-forever">Glossy</a> that "testers are an integral part of someone purchasing a product." Jessica Richards, founder of Shen Beauty, added that "you really need to test, feel and try the product." </p><p>Nonetheless, it looks like makeup testers aren't coming back anytime soon.</p><p>"I personally feel that it is unlikely that testers will return to mass stores like Sephora or Ulta any time soon," said Zeichner. <p>Transforming into a drag queen is no easy task. It can involve hours of sitting in front of a mirror perfecting your makeup and making sure your wig is securely in place. We sat down with <a href="https://www.mizcracker.com/">Miz Cracker</a>, one of the contestants from season 10 of "Ru Paul's Drag Race," to find out how she turns into a woman. Following is a transcript of the video.</p><p><strong>Miz Cracker:</strong> Oh my god, she's a woman!</p><p>Hey everybody, I'm Miz Cracker. I'm called that because I'm thin, and I'm very white, and I'm very salty.</p><p>I've been doing drag for seven years. Just like everyone in America that is doing makeup today, I learned from YouTube a little bit, I learned from the people around me, and I just brought it all together to be my look.</p><p>We're gonna start with my favorite part, the industrial strength chemicals. I'm using the alcohol to remove the oil from my oil-rich skin. This is only something that you should do if you don't care about your body.</p><p>Next up, I'm gonna pull my face back. Better to look young than anything else, so we are going to turn back time. I'm gonna take this duct tape, and I'm gonna lay the foundation for a Ace Hardware Facelift. I'm also providing a solid base for me to pin my wig to later on. People are like, "How do you keep the duct tape from pulling out your hair?" You don't.</p><p>I always say my face in drag is like a drum, because it is taught and it is beat, girl.</p><p>It's time to delete the boy face that you see before you so I have a blank canvas to make a lady upon.</p><p>To hide my eyebrows I start with some basic extra-strength Elmer's school glue. I use the clear kind because it's less water soluble. It'll stay on longer when I'm sweating. I'm taking a lice comb and combing my eyebrow directly upward. So many of the products for drag are regular household products.</p><p>There's a saying in the drag world that Covergirl does not cover boy, and that means you cannot usually use lady products to do a drag queen's job. That's why I'm using this super-strength, ultra opaque Kryolan TV Paint Stick to cover my face.</p><p>Right now I'm color-correcting. The opposite of blue on the color wheel is orange. My beard is blue, hashtag blue beard.</p><p>Now I'm using Airspun powder to set my color correction.</p><p>The eyebrows, when they're dry, they should just feel bone dry, hard to the touch. If you have any question about their being moist, don't go in there, just leave them alone for a minute.</p><p>I'm gonna go in here and cover up my visage. That's French for face. All right, I'm using a expensive but worth it, just like me, beauty blender right now. I used to think that the more, the better when it came to foundation, but really that's not the case. Use as little as you can.</p><p>When I paint my face I always follow my bones to orange, cherry, lemon, and lime. So I'm gonna take this, and I'm gonna go right underneath my actual cheekbone, make these nice, ugly marks here right underneath my actual jawline. I'm just feeling along that bone there.</p><p>From the front, this contour looks like a shadow, but if you bring it up here, it just looks like a mustache. You're trying to push in here to create a slender, small face and make it look like your cheekbones are out farther. It's like basically taking your jawline and putting a little black dress on it. It's slimming.</p><p>I have Eastern European eyebrows. I'm gonna put a couple layers of foundation on here. I'm gonna set this foundation a little bit with powder here.</p><p>She's about to go from Frodo to Gollum here. Ready? Sheblam. Giving you "Deep Space Nine" Odo realness.</p><p>I have a big dude forehead. Like I have a nine-head, it's not even a forehead. It's huge. So I'm carving it down by putting these shadows here.</p><p>Now it is time for me to make myself into a Shiksa by carving this Jew nose down. This is the most important part of the drag process for me, because you're really building a new face. This is your foundation, literally. My nose runs diagonally across my face, so I'm gonna mess with nature a little bit and draw my nose highlight a little off from where it should be, so that it looks like my nose is straight.</p><p>Stereotypically, women have more fat tissue beneath the skin of their faces, so I'm giving that illusion by highlighting up here and making it look like my cheekbones, my cheeks, are a little bit fuller.</p><p>Alright. Now it's time for the nose contour. We're gonna turn this hot dog into a Vienna sausage. You ready? Then make it a little shorter by putting a shadow at the bottom. Sheblam.</p><p>I don't know if this blend delivers food, but she's seamless.</p><p>Alright. Here we got it, we got the base, and you know I'm all about that bass.</p><p>Next up, we're gonna put on some eyebrows. This is my favorite part. I'm gonna take some dots, map some things out. I want my eyebrow to start right above the inside corner of my eye, and I want it to bend right above the iris. I'm gonna connect the dots.</p><p>Then it's time to run them out, because I want my eye socket and my whole eye to look bigger. We wanna go for the Anne Hathaway, Mrs. Potatohead look, you know what I mean?</p><p>My favorite kind of makeup is free.</p><p>Okay, we're gonna put some texture in here. I wanna give these little eyebrow hairs. I invented this. I'm the only person in America that does this.</p><p>We're gonna use an Anastasia Beverly Hills eyebrow palette, because they really just are the best eyebrow colors. I like a nice bold shape. I am not trying to convince you that I am a woman. I'm trying to convince you that I'm a drag queen.</p><p>Okay, eyebrows stick out from your face. They're hair, so we're gonna add dimension. The eyebrow is darker at the bottom, and the middle is a little lighter. Just like Cher said in "Burlesque," she was like, "It's like your an artist, expect for instead of painting on a canvas, you're painting your face."</p><p>This is called clown white. How appropriate.</p><p>The eye is drawn to contrast. So I wanna put the most contrast on my face right around my eyeballs. So we'll go from these highlights here, and then work our way down to the wings. So we're gonna carve down our little eye socket here. The next step is the wings. We're just drawing a line between the corner of our eye and the end of our eyebrow.</p><p>When you do your face, just eyeball it. Don't try to use anything to make it actually perfect. She is a paint by numbers queen like Andy Warhol.</p><p>Now the most important part of this is for me to just not sneeze.</p><p>Okay, we're using Anastasia Beverley Hills contouring kit. I'm using this nice banana yellow highlight.</p><p>Oh, she looks like a woman.</p><p>My makeup is kind of like Matt Damon's acting career. If you just glance at it, you're like pretty good, If you look closely, you're like hmmm.</p><p>Let's give a highlight to the lower lid just to give the sense that the eye's a little bit open, more open. This is just a little liquid white eyeliner.</p><p>I got some on my eyeball.</p><p>See how the eye, there's more contrast around my eye.</p><p>Alright, the lashes are the 3D element that turns your face from a painting into a sculpture.</p><p>Some queens use Duo, that's why their lashes fall off their face. I use weave glue, strong enough for a man, made for a woman. The lashes are really the most important part of the face. I make my own Franken-lashes out of a bunch of lashes that have qualities that I like.</p><p>Ping, now the lip liner. That's a little line where the fine muscles of your lips meet the fine flat muscles of your face. Can you see that little bump right there? That is where I draw the line.</p><p>Nothing a queen likes more than shimmer, maybe a paycheck. Just try to use colors that make the same noise. Don't use a lip liner that's like and a lipstick that's like oh.</p><p>Oh, there she is, she's a lady. It's time for me to put on my god damn wig.</p><p>Alright, I'm using what's called Mastix P from Kryolan. It is the best spirit gum. I'm gonna prepare the area with some isopropyl, removing the makeup here so that the spirit gum has a nice place to hold on.</p><p>This wig is by Wigs and Grace. I usually make my own wigs, but now I'm busy. I'm taking the lace, I'm putting it in the middle of my forehead, and I'm hitching it back over my god damn skull.</p><p>Oh my god, she's a woman!</p><p>The wig is truly like for me the most wonderful part of being a drag queen.
