Bam’s YouTube Channel now has over 15 million subscribers and he’s coming up with yet another single called ‘Ajnabee.’He has worked with brands such as Beardo, Lenskart, Tasty Treats, Vivo, Mivi, Tapzo, and will soon be starring in a commercial for Pizza Hut. In an exclusive chat with Advertising and Media Insider, Bam got candid about his experience of working with brands. ‘One out of 10 brands come and say ‘Hume kuch viral chahiye’, he says, breaking into a chuckle. “Creators cannot make your content go viral. He can give his best to the content he offers, but it is your job to make it viral,” he adds. Bam revisited his childhood days when he got really excited every time ‘Chubti galti garmi’, Dermi Cool’s jingle came on TV. He says he never skipped that advertisement and would love to record the jingle for the brand again. From the latest advertisements, he says Fevicol’s Sofa ad is a masterpiece. "Fevicol's latest ad is simply genius. If we start making ads like those, nothing like it! Although they don't need to advertise because the adhesive glue category is now synonymous with Fevicol, I think all brands should learn from them." Bam says he works for brands that he truly resonates with and enters into a partnership only if he would use the brand himself. That’s how he selected Mivi and Lenskart. Being a shoe-collector, he says he would love to work with a shoe brand next. Talking about the state of advertisements today, he says, ‘advertisements in today’s age are too in your face.’On the other hand, when a brand works with an influencer, the digital medium promises ‘conversion rate '. “Influencers have a really transparent relationship with their followers. It is all about tuning; if a person is attached to an influencer (is a keen follower), he/she would buy a coupon and take some action. As long as influencers are honest and not selling everything, it is better for the brand,” says Bam. So, I would say this is just one extra layer and yes it definitely adds more transparency. As for the revenue part, I certainly thought that some brands would not undertake associations because they don’t want the paid partnership tag on our posts, but I’m glad to say they have adapted really well to these guidelines. In addition to this, I also thought that this will reduce the engagement significantly as people tend to leave the video as soon as they hear any brand name, but this hasn’t been the case for me. To conclude I would like to say, if you put in a little effort and try to make your sponsored content more engaging then people will certainly watch it. I feel like what they don’t want to see is those completely sell out branded posts so if we avoid those we’re still good.” On the survey findings, Manager &amp; Partner BB Ki Vines- Rohit Raj, said, “I believe that guidelines are necessary to bring in more structure to the content creation and monetization ecosystem. However, having worked with some of the top creators in the industry, I believe that we need to approach this in phases. This will help iron out the creases and create a more holistic approach.” When it comes to content format, in 2020, both long-format and short-format garnered engagement for creators with the latter slowly taking lead. In terms of content categories - Fashion &amp; Beauty (54.2%), Comedy (20.9%) &amp; Travel (18.9%) are the top 3 categories of the respondents. The majority of these influencers are creating somewhere between 20-40% of branded content. <ul><li><keyword id="2517934" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bhuvan-Bam">Bhuvan Bam</keyword> is one of the two YouTubers to make it Forbes India’s 30 under 30 list. </li><li>He was also the first Indian Youtube star to attend the <keyword id="69007" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="World-Economic-Forum">World Economic Forum</keyword>’s annual meeting at <keyword id="100810" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Davos">Davos</keyword>. </li><li>His videos on YouTube have received over a billion views as of now. </li></ul>It has been a wonderful year for Delhi based <keyword id="8610970" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="youtuber-bhuvan-bam">YouTuber Bhuvan Bam</keyword> until now. After rubbing shoulders with CEOs at the World Economic Forum in Davos last month, the comedian has now made it to Forbes India’s 30 under 30 list. The 26 year old is one of the two YouTubers along with Technical Guruji Gaurav Chaudhary who made their debut on the list this year. “YouTuber Bhuvan Bam graduated from ‘Watch Out For’ to debut in the digital content creators category,” Forbes India said in <a href="http://www.forbesindia.com/article/30-under-30-2020/forbes-india-30-under-30-a-cut-above-the-rest/57513/1">its press release</a>. For Bam, the journey started in 2015 when he realized that very few people were making YouTube videos in Hindi, and started his channel “BB Ki Vines”. Back then, India had few homegrown comedians. The Viral Fever and All India Bakchod were creating content, but in English. “I thought I should bring some kind of humour. I’ve grown up watching Kader Khan, Johnny Lever, Govinda kind of movies, David Dhawan movies, ’90s and early 2000s movies. And that was a good change for people. The language barrier was at a breaking point,” Bhuvan<a href="https://qz.com/india/1456007/the-making-of-bhuvan-bam-indias-biggest-youtube-star/"> told Quartz. </a> Five years on, Bam has a wide fan base and his videos received a billion views. He is now as famous as any other Bollywood celebrity in India — and celebrities like Karan Johar are in awe of him as well. He also went where no one expected this expletive spewing YouTuber will go --- to the World Economic Forum to tell the story of how he captured the pulse of young Indians. Jokes that no one would laugh at In 2015, Bhuvan was yet another college boy who used to sing at a restaurant for ₹3,000 a night. The natural performer also believed he could tell funny stories though nobody in his family would laugh at them. One day, he decided to post a 15 second video — that mocked the media for their insensitive question in Kashmir floods — on his Facebook page. “A reporter was asking this lady ‘How do you feel, (now) that you’ve lost your son?’ It was a silly question. I couldn’t control myself. I had to make a satire of it,” says Bam. He decided to post some more. Fans from Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh Success did not come instantly. The first few videos received a mere 15 views. Gradually, that 15 turned to 300 and he shot to fame in his college and others. To his surprise, he built a fanbase in Karachi University. But India was still unaware of him. “India took a lot of time to warm up to my videos!” He moved from Facebook to Youtube after a friend suggested monetising what he was doing. The Karan Johar of Youtube Bam managed to get the attention of people after his video “Valentine’s Week Hutiyapa” went viral in 2016. He even got a million subscribers to his Youtube channel in 7 months. Since then, Bam experimented a lot - right from dancing to singing. He also co-produced a movie Plus minus. Soon, he became an influencer and endorsed as many as 30 brands until April 2019. He is now the face of Lenskart. His success lies in his no-cost production strategy. He created 16 characters and acted for all of them. He shoots his videos himself, edits and posts them himself. “I don’t spend a single penny on them. I take 15 to 16 days to come up with a video and do one or two videos a month. That’s a long time. People who have big production houses need to hire people, pay vendors etc,” <a href="https://qz.com/india/1456007/the-making-of-bhuvan-bam-indias-biggest-youtube-star/">he told Quartz. </a> At first Bam wanted to be a part of Bollywood but he now believes Youtube is bigger. “I want to be the Dharma productions of YouTube. We quickly remove content that violates these policies when flagged by our users,” YouTube told Business Insider in response to the incident. Even though Minati’s whole IP on YouTube is reacting and roasting popular TV shows or celebrities, this is the first time that he posted a video roasting a single individual. Even though creators have the option to create one-minute videos, they normally choose to make multiple 30-second clips instead to bump up their content count.</li><li>Siddiqui’s video alleges that YouTubers only make content for sympathy. Minati hit back with a video that Siddiqui does that in more obvious ways by posting videos of him feeding poor kids.</li><li>In multiple points in the video, Minati highlights Siddiqui’s slip-ups in grammar as he talks hinting how his education is inadequate.</li><li>He also shows that Siddiqui’s claim of being a “social influencer” involves using crowdsourcing hashtags on Instagram in order to get more views, even though they may not have any relevance to the image shared. As an example, he shared a picture of Siddiqui standing next to a car and one the hashtags on the post was ‘#Skirt’.</li></ul>Who is Carry Minati? For those of you unfamiliar with Carry Minati, he’s been making videos since 2010 and even won the coveted ‘Golden Play Button’ in 2017 when he crossed 1 million subscribers.  And, <keyword id="3288480" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Satya-Raghavan">Satya Raghavan</keyword>, Entertainment Head at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Know-why-youre-going-to-be-spending-a-lot-more-time-on-Youtube-from-April/articleshow/51441915.cms">Youtube India</a> isn’t averse to that fact either. “India loves <keyword id="10879" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="YouTube">Youtube</keyword>,” he says on the eve of Youtube’s signature Fan Fest in Mumbai, where over 35 YouTube content creators are participating. 
 
Were we always this obsessed with videos? 
 
Yes and no, according to Raghavan. “We were always consuming videos but today it’s not limited to generic music videos or repeats of our favourite TV shows. Now, the audience is using YouTube for much more than that,” he adds. 
 
According to him, the success of homegrown Youtube creators such as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/8-best-Indian-web-only-series-of-2015/articleshow/50268799.cms">All India Bakchod</a>, Kanan Gill, Biswa Kalyan Rath as well as the massive following of Indo-Canadian comedian Lilly Singh aka IISuperwomanII has inspired thousands of Indian creators to launch their own channels on Youtube. 
 
Youtube’s growth in India has been meteoric- with overall watchtime in India growing by 80% YoY and mobile watchtime increasing at a staggering 100%. 
 
Moreover, what Indians are watching on Youtube has changed too. 
 
At the moment, videos by the Youtube creators are the favour of the season, with Indian content creators giving a stiff competition to their western counterparts. 
 
For instance, watchtime of independent musicians on YouTube grew over 92% while comedy and entertainment took the cake with 100% growth. Beauty and fashion videos is another category that has garnered an impressive following- growing over 138%.
