<ul><li>Jio's plan to showcase new film releases on the same day will Big Bollywood producers, in addition to movie theatres. </li><li>According to experts, it could kickstart a war between Big Bollywood producers who might resist the change. </li><li>As producers spend ₹30 crores on production which does not include promotions and other costs, they expect returns to the tune of ₹50 crores over the weekend. </li></ul> On August 15 tomorrow, two big budget movies are releasing—<keyword id="1961443" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="mission-mangal">Mission Mangal</keyword> and <keyword id="48974" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="batla-house">Batla House</keyword>. On an average, Mission Mangal has 14 shows in each theatre, while Batla House has it in 12. Akshay Kumar, the protagonist of Mission Mangal claimed that the actual Mars mission by ISRO had a budget of ₹450 crore which is lower than ₹500 crore budget of his Robot 2.0 movie. This is how much Big Bollywood producers bet on their big budget movies. And, it is the first weekend collections are extremely key as the days of even a superhit movie running in the theatres for a month are long gone. Now, Reliance Jio is taking away this ‘premium’ too with its ‘First Day First Show’ plan. “The release of a big budget movie is an event which is done on a wide canvas. They will suffer the most while it could be good news for smaller films which can make money by selling digital rights. There could be a standoff,” Bharati Dubey, a film critic told Business Insider India. This, according to Dubey could kickstart a war between Big Bollywood producers who might resist the change. Unlike in Hollywood where Steven Spielberg <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/Netflix-responds-to-Steven-Spielbergs-quest-to-boot-it-from-the-Oscars/articleshow/68260584.cms">tried to bar Netflix </a>from entering its original movies for Oscar awards, there has been no animosity between OTT platforms and movie producers here, so far. In fact, Amazon Prime Video is known for bringing many regional films onto its platform within a month of the release. A Telugu movie called Rangasthalam released in 2018, ran<a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/regional-movies/rangasthalam-completes-50-days-at-theatres-emerges-as-one-of-the-biggest-grossers-of-2018/story-HDCixTqGKtd0KQEgW0s2uK.html"> for 50 days in theatres</a> even though it was streaming on the site. But not all movies might be just as lucky. When producers spend ₹30 crores on production which does not include promotions and other costs, they expect returns to the tune of ₹50 crores over the weekend. This is necessary for them to reach the ₹100 crore target in its short lifetime. Few producers can take the chance. Small and independent <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/articles/double-celebration-for-sohum-shah-starrer-tumbbad/20044161">movies like Tumbadd </a>which was a sleeper hit, have little to lose in terms of box office collections. And platforms like Jio etc will the makers reach a wider audience that may not go to the theatres to watch them. However, the big-budget blockbusters need people to throng to the theatres on the opening weekend to recover their investment. Parallel lines cross All was fine until movies had the first weekend premium. In fact, one of India’s successful directors Rohit Shetty said at FICCI Frames this February that the movie industry could co-exist with OTT platforms. “We had this debate even when VHS (tape player) and television came in and when movies were showcases within a few months. I think films and video streaming services like Zee5, Netflix and Hotstar are parallel worlds. Film theatres will not shut down because of them,” Shetty had said But Mukesh Ambani’s plan might change Shetty’s perception. He is offering this service not just as a part of a movie plan, but for those who opt for his premium Jio Fibre broadband service. It means that customers who enjoy high speed connections might get a new movie right onto their screens, without even asking. And that will kill the already dying shelf life of expensive movies made for the ‘big screen’.

A five-minute-long chat between Indian Mujahideen boss <keyword id="6460189" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Yasin-Bhatkal">Yasin Bhatkal</keyword> and his wife has sent authorities into a tizzy, leading them to scale up security arrangements at Hyderabad prison where Bhatkal, mastermind of many jihadi attacks, is lodged, and discuss alternative plans where he could be secured better. 
 During the chat, Yasin told his wife he would be out soon with help from <keyword id="86304" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Damascus">Damascus</keyword>. 
 
 The authorities are particularly worried about the Damascus angle, the capital of <keyword id="6354913" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Syria">Syria</keyword>, a big part of which is now in <keyword id="304620" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Islamic-State">Islamic State</keyword>'s control and has been used as a launch pad for jihadi offensives not just in its neigbourhood but far from its shores. Though confined to Syria and neigbouring Iraq, IS has supplanted Al Qaida as the leading jihadi group in notoriety. 
 
The group has adroitly blended its extremist interpretation of Islam and modern communication tools to find recruits across the globe, as well as to inspire 'lone wolf' attacks, like the recent ones in France. 
 
 
Agencies suspect IS could help Bhatkal by enlisting the support of Ansar-ul-Tawhid Fi Bilad Al Hind (AuT), the jihadi group that had tweeted pictures of the two terrorists killed in the Batla House encounter in 2008 and called them martyrs. This was first reported by TOI last September. 
 
 Intriguingly, AuT has been at loggerheads with the Indian Mujahideen to which Bhatkal belongs, and consists of <keyword id="42632" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="IM">IM</keyword> operatives who rebelled against the leadership of Riyaz and Iqbal Bhatkal in order to join the jihad in Afghanistan. Yasin Bhatkal's conversations, a source said, point to an effort by IS to repair the rift between the rival factions of IM. AuT last year uploaded three different videos with subtitles in Hindi, Tamil and Urdu with messages from various IS operatives, including the Friday sermon of its chief <keyword id="2406035" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Abu-Bakr-al-Baghdadi">Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi</keyword> in which he called for jihad against India among other countries. 
 
It had also uploaded videos condoling the death of an Indian jihadist who died fighting in Afghanistan even as it carried a video message by a former IM operative calling Indians for global jihad. 
 
 
Bhatkal is learnt to have made at least 10 calls to his wife who lives in Jamia Nagar, southeast Delhi, and his hope of getting out soon has been a common thread through most of the conversations. The agencies have also established that the IM commander spoke to some anti-social elements he had met in judicial custody. 
 
Worried by what they have gathered, agencies have written to Hyderabad jail and security has been beefed up there. They are particularly intrigued by the Damascus bit. 
All those people including his family members who met Bhatkal after his arrest are being scanned for clues. 
 
The conversations also bring out the softer side of Bhatkal's personality. The hardcore jihadi, who has shown no remorse for killing innocents, is a loving husband. It was his fondness for Zahida which helped Indian agencies track him down to his hideout in Nepal. Bhatkal had sent Rs 1 lakh home as 'eidi' (gift) to Zahida before Eid in 2013 through hawala. The cash along with a mobile phone was delivered to Zahida at her Delhi house by Bhatkal's deputy Tehsin Akhtar alias Monu. 
 
Bhatkal soon started chatting with Zahida on that mobile, helping intelligence agencies, already tracking the route of hawala transfer, map his location in Nepal near Pokhara. He also promised to be with her for the rest of his life and make sure that she faced no difficulties.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>"O Saki Saki," a song from a Bollywood movie, has become a viral TikTok dance trend. </li><li>But South Asian creators have criticized the altered dance, saying it sexualizes their culture. </li></ul>In recent months, TikTokers have been taking part in one of the latest dance trends on the app — a Bollywood routine from a scene in "Batla House," a 2019 film produced by Indian record label T-Series. The song, called "O Saki Saki," is beloved by many within the South Asian community, who have been <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@nandanibatta/video/6716415439406206210?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1">posting</a> <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@itsnoriana/video/6842611376507079938?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1">TikToks</a> <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@call_me_mk_/video/6759525039810301185?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1">of</a> <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@mr.sanket23/video/6718336105831238913?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1">themselves</a> dancing to the routine ever since the film's release. But now, the dance has gained popularity among another group of creators, who are primarily white, and who have altered a key move from the routine in the videos. Where "Batla House" actor Nora Fatehi drops to the ground to perform a dramatic series of hip thrusts during the film, TikTokers have switched the move out for a body roll — a dance move characterized by a slow fluid movement of the hips upwards and then downwards. This trendified version of the routine is commonly used alongside <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/music/original-sound-7054717094633491205">sped-up version of the song</a>, an audio clip that has featured in 126,000 videosBut it has also sparked backlash from South Asian creators, who told Insider they think the videos are wrongfully sexualizing the routine and that this reflects a broader history of western societies fetishizing and appropriating South Asian culture. <h2>Many South Asian TikTokers are speaking out against white creators getting the dance wrong</h2><a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@naomi.nambo">Naomi Namboodiripad</a> is an Indian dance creator with 323,000 TikTok followers who specializes in Indian classical dance forms. Namboodiripad told Insider that the original dance wasn't intended to be sexualized, but rather "energetic," so when a non-South Asian person performs the body-roll version, she thinks it's like they're "fetishizing Bollywood and South Asians in general.""There was no acknowledgment of where it came from, they just took it and sexualized it," she said. In response to the trend, Namboodiripad, along with several other South Asian creators, made dance videos to demonstrate how to do the dance correctly, along with captions saying things like, "<a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@aishuadd/video/7151039267102346538?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1">That 'body roll' I keep seeing yt ppl do is NOT the original dance</a>," and, "<a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@spongegod2/video/7152410684746173697?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1&amp;q=saki%20saki%20body%20roll&amp;t=1666094051406">Don't tell us how to dance our dance</a>."<h2>South Asian creators told Insider they think their culture should not have to be sexualized in order to be celebrated</h2>Debotri Dhar, a lecturer in South Asian Studies at the University of Michigan who specializes in Women and Gender Studies, told Insider that the "sexualizing" of the "O Saki Saki" dance is a clear instance of South Asian cultures being "exoticized and orientalized," explaining this refers to <a href="https://monoskop.org/images/4/4e/Said_Edward_Orientalism_1979.pdf">a history of</a> western societies "disproportionately highlighting those aspects of another culture that seem mysterious and intriguing, and playing down any similarities in cultural practices."Dhar told Insider this is a continuation of a "longer history of sexualization" passed down from the colonial era, which she said created "generalizations about the savages and sages of other cultures, sexualizing the bodies of Black and Brown women in the colonies because they did not dress and eat, live, and love per the norms of Victorian morality." <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@sully_iqbal">Sully Iqbal</a> is a 25-year-old TikTok creator based in London, of half-Pakistani and half-Indian heritage. He made a<a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@sully_iqbal/video/7153649418305146118?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1&amp;q=saki%20saki%20sully%20iqbal&amp;t=1666178289751"> video</a> saying he thinks backlash to the trend from South Asian people is a "good step forward" for the community as it shows that individuals are using social media to push back against stereotypical portrayals of their culture. "I feel like people are finally coming to the opinion that this kind of representation isn't true representation. That an orientalized representation isn't really what we want. We want good representation, which showcases all the other great things about South Asia and the region as a whole," he said, adding, "We want to get to show that we are beautiful, but it does not need to be in a way that's hyper-sexualized." Namboodiripad told Insider she also feels that western society disproportionately picks up on elements of South Asian culture that they can exoticize, such as the "sparkly dresses" seen in Bollywood films, but said she wishes that people showed appreciation for different and more diverse aspects of the culture. On TikTok, she has previously stated that as a performer of Bharatanatyam, an Indian classical style that originated in Tamil Nadu, South India, she often receives<a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@naomi.nambo/video/7151891464891649326?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1"> judgmental comments</a> about why she dances in bare feet, and she told Insider that many people think of such elements of South Asian culture as "primitive." However, she said she wishes that people broadened their awareness and appreciation of South Asian culture, instead of showing interest in only certain, sexualized representations of it. "I just really wish that South Asian culture was more respected," said Namboodiripad, "and that more people were advocating for a culture where we can be humanized and seen as individuals, who are just one small part of a bigger culture." <h2>The dismissal of the criticism on TikTok is troubling to South Asian creators</h2>Several South Asian creators who called out the modified dance were met with <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@brownie.vibez/video/7152311741760802050?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1&amp;q=saki%20saki%20graceful&amp;t=1666093757282">criticism</a> <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@malxaika/video/7152214239002840326?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1&amp;q=saki%20saki%20white&amp;t=1666094009584">and</a> <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@__hxrini/video/7152987722032893227?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1">negative</a> <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@aishuadd/video/7154432095664737579?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1&amp;q=saki%20saki%20aggressive&amp;t=1666093668117">comments</a>, mainly from people who said they preferred the routine with the body roll and that the original dance felt too <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@aishuadd/video/7151039267102346538?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1">"aggressive."</a> Namboodiripad said it was "infuriating" to see South Asian people being criticized for doing the dance the correct way. "The idea of having someone else say, 'Hey, you're doing it wrong,' even though they don't even know what's happening, it makes you feel inferior."She also said that negative comments about the original dance were a reflection of the way Indian culture is often rejected and looked down upon as a lingering effect of colonialism.
