Earlier on June 6, the NSE had moved the expiry day for Nifty Bank Future &amp; Options (F&amp;O) contracts to Friday from Thursday effective July 7. The reason for the change in stance is that the proposed Friday expiry of Bank Nifty coincided with the expiry of the Sensex/ Bankex F&amp;O contracts that were relaunched by BSE in mid-May. “Considering the need for balanced market development and avoidance of concentration risk in the market, BSE has requested NSE to consider shifting of the <keyword id="15021649" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bank-nifty-expiry" source="Orion">Bank Nifty expiry</keyword> to any day other than Friday. This will help in growing this complementing Sensex/Bankex derivatives and thus de-risk the market,” reads the joint statement from both the exchanges. In accordance with the request, the NSE has withdrawn its earlier plan. The first Friday expiry was to be on July 14. By scheduling the above mentioned expiry on Friday, NSE was set to have an F&amp;O expiry four days a week. It's noteworthy that the Nifty Financial expiry is on Tuesday, Nifty Midcap Select on Wednesday, Nifty 50 on Thursday. The Nifty Financial expiry was earlier on Thursday but it was then shifted to Tuesday. Market analysts say that this shift helped ensure that traders could concentrate on individual expiries better and worked favourably for the exchange with trading volumes going up significantly in Nifty Financial.

Bank Nifty expiry will stay scheduled on Thursday after NSE scraps earlier plan

Mumbai, Dec 26 () Benchmark indices nursed losses for the third straight session on Thursday, led by selling in market heavyweights Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank amid expiry of December derivatives contracts.
 After tumbling 328.37 points during the day, the 30-share BSE Sensex ended 297.50 points, or 0.72 per cent, lower at 41,163.76. It hit an intra-day low of 41,132.89.
 Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty closed 88 points, or 0.72 per cent, down at 12,126.55.
 Bharti Airtel was the top loser in the Sensex pack, dropping 2.23 per cent, followed by Reliance Industries, L&amp;T, Sun Pharma, HDFC Bank, Maruti, Titan and Kotak Bank.
 On the other hand, ONGC, NTPC, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finance and M&amp;M rose up to 1.63 per cent.
 According to traders, market turned volatile on expiry of December futures and options (F&amp;O) contracts.
 Further, investor participation has also thinned on account of year-end holidays in domestic and global markets, they said.
 "Market started-off on a flat note on holiday-shortened week, however consolidation extend on account of F&amp;O expiry led volatility and concern over the fiscal math of the government due to possible delay in divestments planned this fiscal.
 "Global markets seem to be in comfort zone fuelled by hopes of easing trade tension, while the domestic market is expected to wait for cues from the Budget," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services.
 BSE telecom, energy, capital goods, bankex, oil and gas, teck and healthcare indices lost up to 1.73 per cent.
 Metal and basic materials settled up to 0.66 per cent higher.
 Broader BSE Midcap closed 0.13 per cent lower while the smallcap index inched up 0.38 per cent.
 Bourses in Shanghai, Tokyo and Seoul ended on a positive note .
 On the currency front, the rupee was flat against the US dollar at 71.27 (intra-day).

Mumbai, Jun 24 () Snapping its four-day rising streak, the BSE Sensex surrendered all early gains to plunge 561 points on Wednesday as investors booked profits in banking and finance stocks ahead of expiry of monthly derivatives contracts. Weak cues from global markets amid rising coronavirus cases and a faltering rupee further sapped risk appetite, traders said. The 30-share BSE Sensex, which opened on a strong note, came under heavy selling pressure in afternoon trade. It finally closed at 34,868.98, down 561.45 points, or 1.58 per cent. Similarly, the NSE Nifty tumbled 165.70 points, or 1.58 per cent, to end at 10,305.30. IndusInd Bank was the top laggard in the Sensex pack, tanking 7.43 per cent, followed by ICICI Bank, PowerGrid, Bajaj Finserv, Axis Bank and SBI. On the other hand, Asian Paints, ITC, Nestle India, Tech Mahindra, Reliance Industries and TCS spurted up to 3.82 per cent. "In spite of opening positive, markets finally ended negative, in sync with negative global cues. The rising cases of virus infections worldwide, especially in the Americas, unnerved the global markets. Domestic cases too show no signs of abating and this must be weighing on the investors. "Almost all sectoral indices ended in the red, with the bank index the major loser. Ahead of F&amp;O expiry (on Thursday), markets are expected to remain volatile and investors advised to keep booking profits," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services. BSE bankex, telecom, finance, realty, power and healthcare indices plunged up to 4.08 per cent, while FMCG closed in the green. Broader BSE mid-cap and small-cap indices dropped up to 1.24 per cent. On the currency front, the rupee erased its initial gains and provisionally settled lower by 6 paise at 75.72 against the US dollar. Cautious trade prevailed in the markets for the most part of the day ahead of two major events -- the RBI's monetary policy and the US inflation data -- due to be announced on Thursday. The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 149.31 points or 0.23 per cent to settle at 65,995.81. During the day, it fell by 402.12 points or 0.61 per cent to 65,444.38. The benchmark also touched a high of 66,066.01. The NSE Nifty gained 61.70 points or 0.32 per cent to end at 19,632.55. "Markets staged a smart recovery in the late trading session after two days of weakness, as strength in European indices and sharp gains in metals, oil &amp; gas and auto stock aided sentiment. "Markets were highly volatile as investors shunned local equities after Moody's warned of downgrading six major US banks, while weak Chinese exports data also dampened sentiment," said <keyword id="131488" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="shrikant-chouhan" source="Orion">Shrikant Chouhan</keyword>, Head of Research (Retail), Kotak Securities Ltd. The deflationary trend in China and the downgrade of the US mid and small-sized banks affected the market sentiment. "However, a late recovery in the domestic market was supported by a positive uptick in the European market and hope of an optimistic RBI policy not impacting domestic economic growth," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services. In Asian markets, Tokyo and Shanghai settled lower, while Seoul and Hong Kong ended in the green. European markets were trading in positive territory. The US markets ended in the negative territory in overnight trade on Tuesday. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 711.34 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data. Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.79 per cent to USD 86.85 a barrel. The rupee appreciated by 5 paise to settle at 82.86 (provisional) against the US dollar on Wednesday. "As expected, Indian equities are consolidating given the cautious global scenario and consistent selling by FIIs. Tomorrow, we expect the market to see some volatility as the RBI will announce its policy decision outcome on the weekly F&amp;O expiry day. Markets bounce back on fag-end buying in RIL, ITC

Mumbai, Jun 11 () Equity benchmarks finished with heavy losses on Thursday, in tandem with global markets, as the Fed's sombre assessment of the US economy prompted investors to prune their exposure to risky assets. The 30-share BSE Sensex tumbled 708.68 points, or 2.07 per cent, to close at 33,538.37. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty tanked 214.15 points, or 2.12 per cent, to 9,902. Global markets crashed after the Federal Reserve said the US faces a "long road" to recovery, even as concerns mounted about a second wave of coronavirus cases. The central bank projected the US economy would shrink 6.5 per cent this year and signalled holding rates at near zero through 2022. The Fed also said it will keep buying bonds to maintain low borrowing rates. A depreciating rupee and profit booking in banking and finance counters further weighed on domestic markets, traders said. SBI was the top laggard in the Sensex pack, dropping 5.64 per cent, followed by Sun Pharma, Maruti, Bajaj Finance, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel and Axis Bank. Only five index constituents closed in the green -- IndusInd Bank, Hero MotoCorp, PowerGrid, M&amp;M and Nestle India, spurting up to 4.49 per cent. "Indian equity markets posted their biggest single-day drop in three weeks. Weak global cues, adverse comments by Supreme Court in AGR case and widespread profit taking on weekly F&amp;O expiry day pulled indices lower," said Deepak Jasani, Head Retail Research, HDFC Securities. The Supreme Court on Thursday termed as 'totally impermissible' the demand by Department of Telecom for dues of Rs 4 lakh crore in Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) from PSUs. It also asked private telecom operators to file affidavits giving details as to how they will pay the AGR dues. All sectoral indices ended in the red, with BSE telecom index sinking 4.04 per cent, followed by metal, bankex, finance and teck. Broader BSE mid-cap and small-cap indices too plunged up to 1.41 per cent. In rest of Asia, bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul skidded up to 3 per cent. Stock exchanges in Europe too opened with significant losses. International oil benchmark Brent crude futures fell 2.85 per cent to USD 40.54 per barrel.
