The company in an official statement on Thursday stated that "Further to the disclosure dated November 21, 2023, the Company has today received from the Reserve Bank of India approval for conversion of the Company from Non-Banking Financial Company to Core <keyword id="19895437" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="investment" source="keywords">Investment</keyword> Company." According to the Reserve Bank of India, a CIC is a specialised NBFC with an minimum asset size of Rs 100 crore. The RBI's circular dated December 20, 2016 stated that, a CIC's main business is the acquisition of shares and securities with certain conditions. One of the conditions stipulated by the central bank is that the CIC holds not less than 90 percent of its net assets in the form of investment in equity shares, preference shares, bonds, debentures, debt or loans in group companies. The transition from an NBFC to a CIC involves several key changes in the company's operational framework. As a Core Investment Company, <keyword id="2003276" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jio" source="Orion">Jio</keyword> Financial Services will primarily focus on investments in and the management of its subsidiaries companies. These penalties by the regulator have been imposed in the exercise of powers conferred on RBI under the provisions of Section 52A of the <keyword id="20200606" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Housing-Bank" source="keywords">National Housing Bank</keyword> Act, 1987. As per RBI, the statutory inspection of these companies was conducted by the National Housing Bank (NHB) with reference to their financial positions as of March 31, 2022. The RBI stated that based on the supervisory findings of non-compliance with RBI directions and related correspondence in that regard, a notice was issued to the companies advising them to show cause as to why a penalty should not be imposed on them for their failure to comply with the RBI directions. After considering the companies' replies to the notice, oral submissions during the personal hearing, and additional submissions made by them, the RBI found that Godrej Housing Finance Limited failed to obtain two independent valuation reports before sanctioning certain loans of Rs 75 lakh and above. For Aadhar Housing Finance Limited, the RBI stated that the company charged interest on loans for a period prior to the date of the actual disbursement of the loan/issuance of the check to certain borrowers, in contravention of RBI directions on the 'Fair Practices Code.' The penalty on Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited has been imposed because the company failed to undertake risk categorization of its customers during the financial year 2021-22, did not put in place a system for periodic review of risk categorization of accounts, and did not create a floating charge on the assets invested by it in terms of Section 29B of the NHB Act, in favor of its depositors, and register the same with the Registrar of Companies.

RBI imposes penalties on three housing finance companies for non-compliance with directions

The standalone total revenue from operations grew to Rs 1,517.50 crore, from Rs 1,234.60 crore in the same period last year. For the financial year ending March 31, 2024, the standalone total income rose to Rs 5,789.57 crore, as against Rs 4,147 crore last financial year. In a statement, the company said it continued to maintain a strong growth momentum in disbursements during FY24, primarily driven by an increase in credit demand, augmented by growth in consumption and increased distribution reach. The company's total Assets under Management (AUM) stood at Rs 25,900 crore in FY24. During the year ending March 31, 2024, the company added over 43 lakh new customers, taking the overall customer base to over 1.40 crore, the statement added.
