If a bank or credit union is regularly open on a Sunday, branches may be open for limited banking hours since New Year's Eve isn't a federal holiday. Brick-and-mortar banks and credit unions will close their branches on New Year's Day. If you use an online bank, your transactions may be delayed until the next business day. List Bank Holidays in the month of November 2019 Common bank holidays across the country The Sundays of the month fall on November 3, 2019, November 10, 2019, November 17, 2019 and November 24, 2019. November 2019 bank holidays: Complete list of holidays to plan your month better

<ul><li>Food basket inflation was at 9.53% in December 2023, up from 8.7% in November.</li><li>The core inflation stood at 3.8%, moderating from 4.% in November.</li><li>India's industrial growth rate slumped to an 8-month low of 2.4% in November. </li></ul>Retail inflation inched up marginally to a four-month high of 5.69% in December 2023, mainly on account of higher food prices, according to official data released on Friday. The inflation based on Consumer Price Index (CPI) was at 5.55% in November 2023 and 5.72% in December 2022. In August 2023, inflation touched a high of 6.83%. As per the data released by the <keyword id="20070866" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="national-statistical-office" source="keywords">National Statistical Office</keyword> (NSO), retail inflation in the food basket was at 9.53% in December 2023, up from 8.7% in the preceding month and 4.9% in the year-ago month. “While persistent rise in the food prices contributed to an uptick in inflation in December 2023, the core inflation has continued to moderate indicating signs of easing price pressure for the households. A continual moderation in inflation is supportive of growth in the consumption driven sectors, said <keyword id="20169700" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vivek-rathi" source="keywords">Vivek Rathi</keyword>, national director of research at Knight Frank India. The core inflation stood at 3.8%, moderating from 4.% in November. As per RBI’s forecast, FY24 inflation would be at 5.4%. The softer numbers that came in December could undershoot the numbers marginally,” said <keyword id="20169699" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="upasna-bhardwaj" source="keywords">Upasna Bhardwaj</keyword>, chief economist at Kotak Mahindra Bank. Experts expect RBI to keep its keep repo rate and policy stance unchanged in the February policy. The <keyword id="19899810" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="keywords">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (RBI) has been focussed on bringing retail inflation under 4% which is its target. “We expect the RBI to allow liquidity conditions to ease in the coming months to let the operating target rate soften towards the repo rate before shifting stance— a move which is likely in 1QFY25,” said Bharadwaj. Manufacturing drags November industrial growth to 2.4% India's industrial growth rate slumped to an 8-month low of 2.4% in November from a 16-month high of 11.6% in October, data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on Friday showed. In November 2022, the country’s industrial production had grown by 7.6%. The growth rate for November was dragged down by the manufacturing sector, which slowed to a crawl of 1.2 per cent on a year-on-year basis after having posted an increase of 10.2 per cent in October. The sharp slowdown in manufacturing output growth, which accounts for more than three-fourths of the index of industrial production (IIP), was partly attributed to the large number of holidays in November on account of festivals due to which the working declined. The IIP figure has been pulled down by the manufacturing sector which posted the lowest annualised growth of 1.2% in 13 months after a solid momentum in the early part of the fiscal. While moderation in industrial activity is typically seen in the post-festive season, this may also be an indication of an expectation of demand slowdown in the last quarter of the fiscal, he added. The electricity generation also grew at a slower pace of 5.8% as compared to a high double digit growth of 20.4% in October. Similarly, the mining output growth declined to 6.8% from 13.1% in October. “Industrial output for Nov-23 has disappointed even factoring in the impact of the festival holidays during the month and the adverse base factor. IIP has recorded a modest growth of 2.4% YoY, the lowest print in eight months since March 2023," said Suman Chowdhury, chief economist &amp; head of research of Acuite Ratings &amp; Research. There has also been a contraction in both consumer durables and non-durables output in Nov-23, leading to an overall contraction of 4.2 per cent YoY in the consumer goods sector. “The growth indicators from the industrial production print however seem to be uneven. Output from most of the key industries have witnessed moderate growth, however, due to a high statistical base. However, the consumer durable output, which is consumption reflection, contracted by 5.4%. But <a style="text-decoration: underline;" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stocks-house-prices-commercial-real-estate-fed-economists-mortgages-outlook-2023-11">minutes released from the Fed's most recent meeting</a> didn't indicate cuts were imminent. The notes stated central bankers were comfortable <a style="text-decoration: underline;" href="https://www.federalreserve.gov/monetarypolicy/files/fomcminutes20231101.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">keeping their monetary policy "restrictive" to clamp down on inflation</a>.Still, some interest rate traders are predicting rate cuts coming as soon as this March, <a style="text-decoration: underline;" href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to CME's FedWatch Tool</a>. But it's important to remember why central bankers cut rates. It's not simply to let the market off the leash. A rate cut is likely in response to a slowing economy, <a style="text-decoration: underline;" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/rate-cuts-2024-recession-inflation-stock-market-outlook-federal-reserve-2023-11">Jennifer writes</a>. And if the Fed were to get as aggressive as UBS suggests it might — <a style="text-decoration: underline;" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fed-rate-cuts-forecast-2024-full-accommodation-economic-contraction-unemployment-2023-11">lowering rates nearly three percentage points by the end of 2024</a> — that could be because we're already experiencing a full-blown recession.Another key piece of the economy facing headwinds complicates the case for rate cuts being a boon for investors. The Fed has long touted its <a style="text-decoration: underline;" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/america-greased-pig-economy-higher-inflation-stock-market-crash-recession-2023-9">goal of a soft landing</a>: lower inflation while not cratering the economy. It's primarily made good on that promise. However, a key factor in keeping the economy afloat — consumers — is losing steam.Retail giants Walmart and Target noted during recent earnings calls they <a style="text-decoration: underline;" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-target-signal-consumer-spending-shift-amid-economic-pressures-2023-11">were seeing consumer spending dip</a>, Business Insider's Dominick Reuter writes. But <a style="text-decoration: underline;" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stocks-house-prices-commercial-real-estate-fed-economists-mortgages-outlook-2023-11">minutes released from the Fed's most recent meeting</a> didn't indicate cuts were imminent. The notes stated central bankers were comfortable <a style="text-decoration: underline;" href="https://www.federalreserve.gov/monetarypolicy/files/fomcminutes20231101.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">keeping their monetary policy "restrictive" to clamp down on inflation</a>.Still, some interest rate traders are predicting rate cuts coming as soon as this March, <a style="text-decoration: underline;" href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to CME's FedWatch Tool</a>. But it's important to remember why central bankers cut rates. It's not simply to let the market off the leash. A rate cut is likely in response to a slowing economy, <a style="text-decoration: underline;" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/rate-cuts-2024-recession-inflation-stock-market-outlook-federal-reserve-2023-11">Jennifer writes</a>. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Talk of stock market seasonality tends to pick up towards the end of the year, and for good reason.</li><li>Since 1950, November has been the strongest month of the year for stock market performance.</li></ul>With November's arrival, there's <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stock-market-seasonality-year-end-rally-october-bottom-chart-day-2023-10">a lot of talk</a> on Wall Street about stock market seasonality towards the end of the year — and for good reason.Since 1950, <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stock-market-bottom-outlook-bullish-seasonal-chart-of-the-day-2023-11">November is on average the strongest month of the year</a> for stock market returns, and November through December is the strongest two-month period on average for returns, according to LPL Financial.The consistent stock market strength in November comes shortly after September, <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stock-market-weakest-10-day-stretch-sp500-september-seasonal-trends-2023-9">which has historically been the worst month of the year</a> for stocks.These patterns have played out perfectly so far this year, with the <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/index/s&amp;p_500">S&amp;P 500</a> falling 5% in September, and rising 4% in the first few days of November.A number of theories have tried to explain the stock market's seasonality. For example, bad Septembers have been attributed to cooler weather depressing sentiment among traders as well as the end of summer vacations on Wall Street driving increased selling.For the year-end strength, one theory is that the spread of holiday cheer (and increased spending on gifts by consumers) encourages more buying than selling in stocks. This is <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stock-market-outlook-santa-claus-rally-historical-lpl-says-2020-12-1029918008">often dubbed the "Santa Claus rally."</a>But there's one driver of stock rallies that is less anecdotal and has more concrete evidence to back it up: a quirk in the tax code for mutual funds.Specifically, mutual funds have until October 31 to make their tax-loss harvesting trades for the year, three months before the deadline for retail investors. Tax-loss harvesting is a trading strategy to lower tax liability."Tax loss harvesting for institutional investors became increasingly prevalent after the Tax Reform Act of 1986, which mandated October 31 as the cut-off for most mutual funds to realize capital gains," Bank of America's Savita Subramanian explained in a note last year. This can have a big impact on markets considering that US mutual funds manage more than $20 trillion in assets across stocks and bonds. Loss harvesting involves selling a stock that has suffered year-to-date losses, then waiting 30 days to buy it back to avoid the wash-sale tax violation. Mutual funds can then use those realized losses to help lower their tax liability when they sell winning stocks in the future."We've historically seen evidence of tax loss selling by institutional investors in October (peak outflows), and by retail investors ahead of the December 31 cut-off for individual investors. Flows for both groups have typically reversed in subsequent months," Subramanian explained.And it's that reversal that can help drive stocks higher into the end of the year, especially when there are a lot of year-to-date losers, like in 2023. While the S&amp;P 500 is up about 14% this year, about half the companies in the index are down, and over a third are down more than 10%. These tax-loss candidates have a tendency to move higher after October 31, which can ultimately help lift the broader stock market."Since 1986, stocks down 10% or more from January 1 to October 31 beat the S&amp;P 500 by 1.9 percentage points on average over the next three months with a 70% hit rate," Subramanian said.With mutual funds' tax-loss selling now in the rearview mirror, there could be upside pressure to stock prices as mutual funds start to buy back the shares they sold just a few weeks ago, which plays right into <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stock-market-outlook-baby-rally-year-end-gains-bullish-fundstrat-2023-11">the bullish year-end seasonality.</a>

November is typically the best month for stocks. A quirk among mutual funds may explain the weird phenomenon and point to big gains into year's end

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The Consumer Price Index rose 7.1% in November from the same time last year.</li><li>That's below the 7.3% economists estimated and was the lowest rate since December 2021.</li></ul>Inflation continues to cool from its sky-high rates seen throughout 2022.Inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index soared 7.1% year-over-year in November, lower than the year-over-year increase of 7.7% in <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/inflation-cooling-cpi-report-october-price-growth-2022-11">October</a>. That's according to new data out from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. November's increase comes in below the 7.3% increase economists surveyed by Bloomberg forecasted, and is the lowest year-over-year rate since December 2021.Over the month, CPI increased by a seasonally adjusted 0.1% in November, below the 0.3% expected to be seen this month by economists. November's increase is less than October's increase of 0.4%. BLS noted in Tuesday's release that shelter was the biggest contributor to the month-over-month rise.Looking at just core CPI, which strips out volatile food and energy prices, this measure rose 6.0% year-over-year. That's just shy of the 6.1% forecasted. Core CPI increased 6.3% in October from the same time a year ago.Additionally, economists surveyed by Bloomberg expected a month-over-month increase of 0.3% in November for this measure, unchanged from the month before. Core CPI rose 0.2%, the lowest gain since August 2021.Energy fell in November by 1.6% after its 1.8% increase in October. This index soared 13.1% year-over-year when looking at unadjusted figures, a slower increase than October's year-over-year increase. Energy prices have been falling for months.Food and shelter saw smaller increases over the month in November — with seasonally adjusted monthly gains of 0.5% and 0.6% respectively. The unadjusted shelter index is still high with the index up 7.1% from the same time a year ago. The food index is also still sky high based on year-over-year increases — although this measure has been falling. The food index climbed 10.6% year-over-year.Stocks soared after Tuesday's CPI release, such as for <a href="https://www.investing.com/indices/us-30-futures">Dow Jones Futures</a>.This week's CPI report comes in just ahead of the Fed's last meeting of 2022 where the central bank could potentially raise interest rates at a slower pace than the outsize hikes from earlier this year per a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/when-will-fed-stop-raising-interest-rates-hikes-slow-december-2022-11">speech from Fed Chair Jerome Powell</a>. Looking forward, inflation may be cooler next year. US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen recently said on "60 Minutes" that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/will-prices-go-down-next-year-inflation-recession-outlook-yellen-2022-12">she thinks "inflation will be lower."</a>"I am very hopeful that the labor market will remain quite healthy so that people can feel good about their finances and their personal economic situation," Yellen said.While Americans have faced rising prices, there has been some recent good news, such as at the <a href="https://gasprices.aaa.com/like-the-temperatures-gas-prices-keep-falling-as-the-holidays-approach/">gas pump</a>. "Some relief has been seen from the peaks of inflation, particularly with hugely consequential gasoline prices," Mark Hamrick, senior economic analyst at Bankrate, stated before the release. "The national average has recently been just pennies a gallon away from year-ago levels. Bargain conscious holiday gift shoppers are finding compelling values on the likes of clothing and consumer electronics." However, rising prices are still affecting what shoppers can buy. As tech companies pull back on spending, big office holiday parties are on the chopping block

The fall was led by losses in the FMCG, metals and auto sectors. The Sensex closed 0.31%, or 187 points, lower at 60,858 while the Nifty50 ended 0.32%, or 57 points, lower at 18,107. “Domestic indices snapped their previous gains amid negative sentiments from their global counterparts. Weak US consumer data and hawkish comments from the Fed's policymakers on Wednesday hammered investor risk appetite. Lingering fears of recession dragged global bourses down, leaving the market volatile,” said Vinod Nair, head of research at Geojit Financial Services. The US commerce department on Wednesday reported a 1.1% drop in retail sales in December after it fell 1% in November. Reports say that economists had expected retail sales to decrease by 0.8% in December. Besides that, St. Louis Fed President James Bullard and Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester stressed on the need to raise interest rates beyond 5%. Adani Enterprises (-3.7%), Asian Paints (-3.1%), Tata Motors (-1.9%), IndusInd Bank (-1.8%) and Adani Ports &amp; SEZ (-1.7%) were the top five losers on the Nifty50 index. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 1.81% lower while the S&amp;P 500 declined 1.56%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq closed 1.24% lower. “The uncertain global market environment coupled with a hawkish stance by the US Fed officials on interest rate hikes kept the mood gloomy throughout the trading session. Although inflation is showing signs of some moderation, concerns over a likely recession in the US and western economies is prompting investors to turn risk-averse toward equities,” said Shrikant Chouhan, head of equity research (retail) at Kotak Securities. Asian markets ended mixed with Nikkei losing 1.44% and Hang Seng down 0.12% while Shanghai SE Composite Index rose 0.49% and Taiwan TSEC 50 Index was up 0.04%. The Rupee settled 7 paise lower at 81.37 against the US dollar on Thursday. Meanwhile, Brent crude oil price fell 0.82% to $84.30 per barrel.
