Private lender <keyword id="2240511" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bandhan-bank" source="Orion">Bandhan Bank</keyword> on Wednesday said it has been authorised by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to disburse <keyword id="6354432" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pension" source="Orion">pension</keyword> to <keyword id="19806630" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retired-railways-employees" source="Orion">retired railways employees</keyword>. In a statement, the bank said the lender will shortly integrate its system with the railways ministry to operationalise the pension disbursement process. The mandate will give the bank access to around 50,000 retirees each year across 17 zonal offices and eight production units of the railways across the country. Debraj Saha, head (government business), Bandhan Bank, said, "Indian Railways is one of the largest employers in the country. This will help <keyword id="6379276" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pensioners" source="Orion">pensioners</keyword> to get access to competitive rates offered by the bank and other products of the lender."

RBI authorises Bandhan Bank to disburse pension to retired railway employees

<keyword id="2240511" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bandhan-bank" source="Orion">Bandhan Bank</keyword> on Wednesday reported over three- fold jump in net profit at Rs 721 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2023. The Kolkata-headquartered private sector lender had posted a profit of Rs 209.30 crore for the same quarter a year ago. Total income during July-September this fiscal rose to Rs 5,032 crore as against Rs 4,250 crore in the same period of 2022-23, Bandhan Bank said in a regulatory filing. Net interest income grew to Rs 2,443 crore in Q2 FY24 from Rs 2,193 crore in Q2 FY23. On the <keyword id="6382596" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="asset-quality" source="Orion">asset quality</keyword> front, the lender reported deterioration as gross non-performing assets (NPAs or <keyword id="142154" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bad-loans" source="Orion">bad loans</keyword>) rose to 7.32% of gross advances at end-September 2023 from 7.19% by the end of second quarter of 2022-23. Likewise, net NPAs or bad loans also increased to 2.32%, from 1.86%. However, provision (other than tax) &amp; contingencies declined to Rs 636 crore from Rs 1,280 crore in the same quarter a year ago. Net interest margin of the bank improved to 7.2% in Q2 FY24 from 7% in Q2 FY23.

According to him, the increase in the purchasing capability of the middle class will push the demands of the products and this will positively impact the economy of the nation. "Of course there is an expression of shooting up of the inflation slightly because of this increase in the purchasing capacity of the middle class. However, considering the multiple positive aspects of the tax rate revision, in my opinion, that threat will not impact the economy in a major way," <keyword id="4757" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ghosh" source="Orion">Ghosh</keyword> said. He also said that the income tax exemption will also indirectly help the banking sector on the deposits side. "Excess money in hand will prompt people to go for additional savings and this will improve the deposit side of the banks which is in a difficult shape now," the Bandhan Bank MD &amp; CEO said. He was especially enthusiastic about the new "Mahila Samman Saving Certificate", that will allow women a maximum deposit of up to Rs 2,00,000 having a maximum interest of 7.5 per cent for two years till March 2025. "This will definitely drive women towards savings and in my opinion this scheme is extremely innovative," he said. He also pointed out that Fiance Minister <keyword id="129243" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nirmala-sitharaman" source="Orion">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword>, in her budget speech, stressed on infrastructure development as well as development of the MSME and start-up sectors. "This is a positive step towards employment generation, since whenever there is infrastructure development there is opportunity for employment generation. Similarly, MSME and start-up sectors generate employment and these two sectors have been addressed well in the budget speech," Ghosh added. Analysts at Credit Suisse reportedly believe that the bank would give more than 20% return on equity. With this, it has set a target of ₹370 apiece. As on August 31, the stock price is at ₹284.70 per share. Analysts at Kotak Securities feel the same, as it says return on equity is likely to move more than 20%. After the bank reported a 32% on year decline in net profit due to high provisions, analysts at Kotak Securities said it sees an improvement in the second half of FY22 as the economic situation improves. It has set a target price of ₹335 per share. IndiaMART InterMESH Another stock that turned around in the last five days was B2B e-commerce platform IndiaMart InterMESH. The stock surged more than 10% in 5 days against tepid trading in the rest of August. This is primarily because the company’s stock has been added to the futures &amp; options market from August 27. The move boosts participation in the stock as investors and institutions can hedge underlying positions in the stock. <keyword id="9693136" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="bandhan-financial-holdings-limited">Bandhan Financial Holdings Limited</keyword> has lowered its stake in <keyword id="2240511" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bandhan-Bank">Bandhan Bank</keyword> by 20.95 per cent through a block deal to meet the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) <keyword id="1366225" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Licensing-norms">licensing norms</keyword> for new private sector banks. Post the deal, the holding company's stake in the bank is at 40 per cent, the bank said in a regulatory filing. As per <keyword id="9693135" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-licensing-guidelines">the licensing guidelines</keyword>, the non-operative financial holding company (NOFHC) was required to bring its <keyword id="9693137" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="excess-shareholding">excess shareholding</keyword> to 40 per cent of the paid-up voting equity capital of the bank. "In order to be fully compliant with the Licensing Guidelines, the NOFHC has today i.e. August 03, 2020 informed the bank that it has diluted its excess shareholding of 20.95 per cent i.e. 33,73,67,189 equity shares of Rs 10 each fully paid-up in the bank through secondary market sale," it said. Bandhan Bank said that it had been exploring various options to bring the shareholding to the prescribed level. Pursuant to amalgamation of GRUH Finance Limited into and with the bank effective from October last year and consequent to issuance of fresh equity shares to the shareholders of GRUH, the shareholding of the holding company diluted from 82.26 per cent to 60.96 per cent of its paid-up voting equity share capital, the filing said. Shares price of the bank on Monday plunged 10.60 per cent on the BSE to close at Rs 308.65 per share.
