Covid-19 induced economic turbulence pulled down two-an d three-wheeler manufacturer <keyword id="6359783" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="bajaj-auto">Bajaj Auto</keyword>'s total sales in July by 33 per cent on a year-on-year basis. According to the company, its total sales during the month under review fell to 2,55,832 units from 3,81,530 units sold during the corresponding month of 2019. Similarly, Bajaj Auto's total domestic sales stood at 1,58,976 units -- down 23 per cent -- from 2,05,470 units sold in July last year. The two- and three-wheeler manufacturer's overall exports declined by 45 per cent to 96,856 units from 1,76,060 units shipped out during the like month of 2019. In term of two-wheelers, the company's total sales fell 26 per cent to 2,38,556 units from 3,22,210 units sold in July last year. The company's commercial vehicles' sales during the month under review declined by 71 per cent to 17,276 units from 59,320 units sold during the like period of last year.

In a volatile trade, the 30-share BSE index was trading 113.77 points or 0.19 per cent lower at 60,550.02 in early deals. Similarly, the broader <keyword id="372424" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nse-nifty" source="Orion">NSE Nifty</keyword> slipped 63.70 points or 0.36 per cent to 17,808. Maruti was the top loser in the Sensex pack, shedding 1.31 per cent, followed by Tata Motors, Bajaj Finserv, SBI, Bharti Airtel, Kotak Bank, Axis Bank and Reliance Industries. On the other hand, L&amp;T, <keyword id="111876" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bajaj-finance" source="Orion">Bajaj Finance</keyword>, Infosys, PowerGrid and <keyword id="6357150" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tcs" source="Orion">TCS</keyword> were the major gainers. Meanwhile, shares of Adani Power fell 5 per cent to 172.90 apiece on BSE in early deals, after the company on Wednesday reported a 96 per cent decline in consolidated net profit at Rs 8.77 crore for the December quarter. Edible oil major Adani Wilmar Ltd edged lower by 1.79 per cent to 411.85 per scrip, despite the company reporting a 16 per cent increase in its consolidated profit to Rs 246.16 crore for the third quarter ended December 2022. <keyword id="6367820" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="adani-group" source="Orion">Adani Group</keyword>'s flagship Adani Enterprises was trading 5.56 per cent down at Rs 2038.55 apiece on BSE. According to the RBI, domestic banks' exposure to the Adani Group is "not very significant", and the system is strong and large enough to not get impacted by a single case. Meanwhile, France's TotalEnergies has put on hold a planned investment in Adani Group's USD 50 billion hydrogen project pending results of an audit launched following allegations by a US short-seller, chief executive Patrick Pouyanne said on Wednesday. On Wednesday, the 30-share BSE Sensex rose by 377.75 points or 0.63 per cent to close at 60,663.79 and the broader Nifty of the NSE spurted by 150.20 points or 0.85 per cent to settle at 17,871.70, after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) hiked the repo rate by 25 basis points. Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Seoul were trading with gains in mid-session deals while the Tokyo market closed in the negative territory. Equities on Wall Street ended significantly lower in the overnight trade. Meanwhile, the international oil benchmark Brent slipped 0.11 per cent to USD 85 per barrel. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in capital markets as they offloaded shares worth Rs 736.82 crore on Wednesday, according to exchange data. RBI projected India's economic growth at 6.4 per cent for 2023-24, broadly in line with the estimate of the Economic Survey tabled in Parliament last week. It also estimated retail inflation to ease to 5.3 per cent in the next fiscal from 6.5 per cent this year on assumptions of lower imported inflation, even though core inflation remains sticky. The RBI's decision to hike the repo rate by 25 basis points was on expected lines but the policy focuses more on inflation despite the recent moderation in the number, bankers said on Wednesday. Analysts are of the view that after delivering the seventh hawkish policy on Wednesday, the central bank may pause after delivering a likely 25 basis points increase in the April review.

Sensex drops 115 points in early trade tracking losses in RIL, Maruti, & Tata Motors

Mumbai, Rising for the second straight session, equity benchmark Sensex climbed 142 points on Thursday following buying in IT and finance stocks amid a positive trend in global markets. After a see-saw session, the 30-share BSE Sensex ended 142.43 points or 0.23 per cent higher at 60,806.22. During the day, the index witnessed a high of 60,863.63 and a low of 60,472.81. The broader <keyword id="372424" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nse-nifty" source="Orion">NSE Nifty</keyword> advanced 21.75 points or 0.12 per cent to finish at 17,893.45. <keyword id="85462" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bajaj-finserv" source="Orion">Bajaj Finserv</keyword> topped the Sensex gainers' chart, rising 2.30 per cent, followed by Asian Paints, Infosys, Bajaj Finance, IndusInd Bank, L&amp;T and TCS. In contrast, Bharti Airtel, <keyword id="6355596" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ultratech-cement" source="Orion">UltraTech Cement</keyword>, <keyword id="42747" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="Orion">Tata Motors</keyword>, <keyword id="44642" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sun-pharma" source="Orion">Sun Pharma</keyword>, HDFC and Axis Bank were among the laggards, shedding up to 1.03 per cent. The market breadth was positive, with 18 advances and 12 declines. "Traders mostly remained on the sidelines in the absence of any fresh positive triggers, as worries of global slowdown and no signs of any pause on global rate hike cycle continued to weigh on the sentiment. "Although markets were range-bound with a positive bias, fluctuation in the market could continue in the near term," said <keyword id="131488" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="shrikant-chouhan" source="Orion">Shrikant Chouhan</keyword>, Head of Equity Research (Retail), Kotak Securities Ltd. In the broader market, the BSE midcap gauge slipped 0.01 per cent and the smallcap index dipped 0.15 per cent. Among sectoral indices, IT climbed 0.88 per cent, technology 0.71 per cent, industrials (0.36 per cent) and Capital Goods (0.26 per cent). Power, telecommunications commodities and realty were among the losers. Markets closed higher for the second consecutive session, aided by buying in IT stocks and despite volatility in Adani group stocks following MSCI review of their free float weights in their indices, said <keyword id="161383" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="deepak-jasani" source="Orion">Deepak Jasani</keyword>, Head of Retail Research, HDFC Securities. European stocks rose, after touching nine-month highs on Wednesday as investors pinned hopes on peaking inflation and a major recession now looking less likely on the continent, Jasani added. "Any more-than-expected negative outcome of the MSCI review meeting on Adani company weights in their indices could result in a lower opening of Nifty on Friday," Jasani said. Shares of Adani Power fell 5 per cent to close at 172.90 apiece on BSE after the company on Wednesday reported a 96 per cent decline in consolidated net profit at Rs 8.77 crore for the December quarter. Edible oil major Adani Wilmar Ltd jumped 5 per cent to end at 440.30 per scrip. It has reported a 16 per cent increase in consolidated profit to Rs 246.16 crore for the third quarter. Adani Group's flagship Adani Enterprises crashed 10.72 per cent to settle Rs 1,927.30. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone dropped 2.90 per cent to Rs 582.05. Adani Transmission and Adani Total Gas witnessed a fall of 5 per cent each, while Adani Green Energy fell 4.96 per cent. The scrip of Ambuja Cements slipped 6.86 per cent to Rs 358, NDTV fell 4.92 per cent to Rs 216.55 and ACC dipped 2.91 per cent to Rs 1,915.95 on the exchange. Elsewhere in Asia, markets in Seoul, Shanghai and Hong Kong ended with gains, while Tokyo settled in the red. However, equity exchanges in Europe were trading in the positive territory in the afternoon session. Wall Street had ended lower in the overnight session. The rupee closed flat at 82.54 against the US dollar on Thursday. International oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 0.29 per cent higher at USD 85.34 per barrel. Sensex, Nifty clock gains with buying in IT and finance stocks

Similarly, the broader <keyword id="372424" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nse-nifty" source="Orion">NSE Nifty</keyword> advanced 159.80 points or 0.91 per cent to 17,694.55. All the Sensex constituents were trading with gains in morning trade. In the previous session, while the 30-share BSE index ended 35.78 points or 0.06 per cent lower at 58,817.29 in a volatile session, the broader NSE Nifty inched up 9.65 points or 0.06 per cent to close at 17,534.75. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the Indian capital market as they purchased shares worth Rs 1,061.88 crore on Wednesday, as per exchange data. International oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 0.23 per cent lower at USD 97.18 per barrel. According to traders, the surge in the domestic equity markets was supported by a firm trend in global equities especially the US gauges and subsequent rally in Asian indices. Equities on Wall Street rose sharply on Wednesday after US data showed that inflation eased more than expected in July, indicating that the Fed might be less aggressive in hiking interest rates. The US consumer price index showed a growth of 8.5 per cent in July, compared to the year-ago period. Elsewhere in <keyword id="21718" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="asia" source="Orion">Asia</keyword>, bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Seoul were trading on a positive note in mid-session deals, while Tokyo was in the red.
