The scenes transport you to a place very different from your own and make you believe that the world shown in these shows and movies do exist – and that’s the power of VFX. While Indian audiences watched GOT, little did they know that Khaleesi’s massive dragons they saw on screen were actually made in India by Prana Studios. But Indian films are craving for visual effects too, and the scale and size of Indian industry is making global studios set up shop in India. Oscar winning studio Framestore which won the award for films like Blade Runner 2049 and Gravity, is setting up a studio in Mumbai. It will also hire 500 people. But this is not its first tryst with India. Framestore earlier made a major investment in Jesh Krishna Murthy’s VFX Studio, Anibrain, in 2017. “Mumbai has become a centre of excellence in digital filmmaking. There’s a depth of talent that can deliver to the scale of Hollywood with the colour and flair of <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword>.In terms of visual effects, we will set the standard here as we did in Montreal almost eight years ago,” said Framestore’s founder and CEO, Sir William Sargent. But Framestore isn’t the first global company to turn to India. In 2018, global animation studio Dreamworks partnered with Technicolor to open DreamWorks Dedicated Unit, Technicolor India (DDU) in Bengaluru. And there is a reason why these companies are coming to India. The Indian VFX and animation industry is worth a whopping ₹88 billion with VFX alone holding on to ₹68.4 billion, according to a <a href="https://assets.kpmg/content/dam/kpmg/in/pdf/2019/08/india-media-entertainment-report-2019.pdf">KPMG report.</a>

 “The VFX segment in FY19 saw stereo scoping work flowing to India from international markets and a rise in VFX demand, not just from Hindi movies, but even from South Indian films,” said the report. The South Indian industry which produces a large number of fantasy movies, is early to catch on to this trend. Hyderabad-based Firefly studios was the frontrunner for Baahubali’s visual effects. The city is home to many other such studios like Makuta Studios, which won National Awards for its work in Magadheera and Eega, and also Green Gold Animation which has gained worldwide recognition for its animation series Chhota Bheem. In fact, the Telangana government is also setting up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for gaming, visual effects and animation. Meanwhile in Bengaluru, startups like MRT Studios, Thought Cloud Studios, Videogyan, and Om Studio are making noise with their VFX work in Kannada films. Unlike South India, visual effects has not yet seen a massive uptake in Bollywood -- although it is used massively for films like Fan, Ra.One etc. Ayan Mukherjee’s next with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt titled Brahmastra is slated to be India’s biggest VFX superhero movie. With the hustle in the sector, there are no surprises that the KPMG report predicts the Indian visual effects and animation industry to hit ₹184 billion by 2024, at a CAGR of 16%. Nestled in the city of Hyderabad, is a mythological learning centre that takes one back to those memories. And at the helm of it is South Indian superstar Rana Daggubati. Daggubati, who brought the world to his notice with his role as the villain in SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus <keyword id="6354370" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="baahubali">Baahubali</keyword>, has partnered with Future Group and Amar Chitra Katha to bring about Amar Chitra Katha Alive - a state-of-the-art learning centre spread over 10,000 square feet for art and design, life skills, performing arts and vedic science and ethics. Daggubati claims it's not just another summer school. The ACK Alive centre offers over 64 courses – a modern take on Indian Gods Krishna and Balarama who studied life skills in just 64 days, he said. The courses range from simple courses like Photography, Creative Writing and Theatre to ones like Vedic Mathematics, Tarot reading and even Kalaripayattu – an Indian martial art that originated in Kerala. “The centre offers an all age group learning. You can come at any age or any time of your convenience and pick up a program that you like,” Rana Daggubati told Business Insider. Daggubati who has been involved in mythological movies like Baahubali, realised that there was no brand holding together all the stories that India’s mythology together like Amar Chitra Katha did. Talking about how the partnership happened, he said, “I was actually working on a different project with the Future Group and was then introduced to the idea of the Amar Chitra Katha learning centre.” While the centre was initially supposed to be built in Mumbai, Daggubati, who is now a director at Amar Chitra Katha, brought it to Hyderabad. Why? Better real estate options, of course! “Mumbai was the first option but we wanted to build something of scale. A centre which can have at least 250 people learning at the same time – in Mumbai it would be too expensive. Meanwhile, Hyderabad has an audience which still has great respect for ACK and still has a large readership too,” said Daggubati. The bringing about of ACK Alive also had a personal connection with Daggubati. The centre is today built on Daggubati’s previous office space. “Converting my previous office into a learning centre was quite emotional as this is where I learnt everything I know,” he said. At ACK Alive, Daggubati himself will be enrolling for a Vedic Mathematics course. The curated courses have seen a great response too, with over 200 families coming over in the first few days of its launch. While there are free classes going on until April 15th, many have already registered. Hyderabad, May 21 () Actor Rana Dagubatti and interior designer Miheeka Bajaj on Thursday made their relationship official with a 'roka' ceremony. The couple took to Instagram to share pictures from what appeared to be an intimate affair, where they were dressed in traditional attire. "And it's official," the "Baahubali" star captioned a picture of the couple. Rana sported a white shirt with a matching lungi, while his fiancee wore a multicoloured sari. Miheeka also shared photographs of the ceremony and wrote "To the beginning of forever." Earlier this month, Rana shared on Instagram that he had proposed to Miheeka. The 'Baahubali' fame actor reached the ED office here around 10 a.m. and walked in as a posse of security personnel escorted him through a battery of media lensmen vying with each other to capture the moment. Rana is likely to be questioned by ED sleuths about his bank details and financial transactions as part of the probe into suspected links of some celebrities with the accused involved in the case. Rana is the fifth Tollywood personality to appear before ED. Nandu was questioned for more than eight hours on Tuesday. Main accused in the case Calvin Mascarenhas and two others were also grilled by the ED sleuths on Tuesday. Actors Ravi Teja, Navdeep. Mumaith Khan, Tanish and Ravi Teja's driver Srinivas have also been summoned by the ED in connection the drugs racket which was busted with the arrest of drug peddlers in 2017. Rana and Rakul Preet did not figure in the list of Tollywood celebrities questioned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Telangana's prohibition and excise department in 2017. However, Rakul Preet was questioned by the Narcotics Control Bureau, Mumbai, last year in an alleged drugs nexus in Bollywood. The drugs racket was busted on July 2, 2017 when customs officials arrested Calvin Mascarenhas, a musician, and two others and seized drugs worth Rs 30 lakh from their possession. They had reportedly told the investigators that they are supplying drugs to film celebrities, software engineers, and even students of some corporate schools. Mobile numbers of some Tollywood celebrities were allegedly found in their contact lists. The excise department had constituted SIT for a comprehensive probe. A total of 12 cases were registered, 30 people were arrested while 62 individuals including 11 people connected with Tollywood were examined by the SIT under section 67 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and section 161 of Criminal Procedure Code. The SIT had collected blood, hair, nail and other samples from some of those who appeared before it for question and sent them for analysis. The SIT filed charge sheet in eight out of 12 cases. It, however, gave clean chit to the film personalities who were questioned as part of the investigation.
