Women and children at many places were crying as rumours said people had seen 'Dajaal' (The Doomsday Trumpeter) on the sky. Many people also said they had seen the name of the Prophet of Islam written across the night sky. Still others shunned their beds and came out in complete bewilderment asking each other what had actually happened. These rumours were basically fuelled by news reports that a huge asteroid would pass close to the earth on March 26, 2020. The news report had quoted NASA officials saying that a potentially hazardous asteroid would skim the earth on March 26, 2020. The news report gave credence to local rumours because there is a general belief among Kashmiris that 'Qayamat' (Doomsday) would happen on a Thursday. It must be mentioned that with the discovery of 11 positive cases of COVID-19, people in Kashmir are already living on the edge these days. The Valley-wide resort by the people to 'Azaan' left the authorities clueless for many hours as to what had caused the panic.

(Eds: Combining related stories) New Delhi, Apr 24 () The total number of coronavirus cases in Delhi crossed the 2,500 mark on Friday, even as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that plasma therapy conducted on four COVID-19 patients has yielded "very encouraging" initial results, giving a ray of hope to those critically ill. According to the health bulletin, 136 fresh cases were reported in the national capital, taking the total number of cases to 2,514. With three fresh fatalities, the tally of those who succumbed to the disease rose to 53. The fresh cases also included an assistant sub-inspector of the Delhi Police, posted at the crime branch. So far, more than 21 police personnel have tested positive for coronavirus. Two sanitation workers of the south Delhi MCD have also tested positive, officials said. In the north Delhi MCD, one assistant sanitary inspector has tested positive, while 39 of his co-workers have been advised home quarantine. At the gastroenterology department of the AIIMS, 40 healthcare staff, including doctors and nurses have been advised self-quarantine after a 30-year-old male nurse tested positive for COVID-19. Forty-nine patients recovered from the disease, taking the total number of those who successfully defeated it to 857, the bulletin said. Of these, 802 have reported recovery since April 18. Doctors at LNJP Hospital, a dedicated COVID-19 facility in Delhi, attributed this to patient care and also the will power of people to brave through this crisis. Many have managed to pull through, despite being above 60 years, and having co-morbidities, a senior doctor said. In a positive development, plasma therapy treatment on four patients has been encouraging, Kejriwal said. In an online briefing, he said more clinical trials of plasma therapy will take place over the next two-three days, and his government will seek the Centre's nod next week for using the technique on all critically-ill COVID-19 patients in the city. "Ten days ago, we had got permission from the central government to conduct clinical trial of plasma therapy only on four serious COVID-19 patients admitted at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital. "The initial results are every encouraging and good. It gives a ray of hope to save people's lives from coronavirus," he said. He was joined by S K Sarin, the director of the Institute of Liver and Biliary Science, at the press conference. The four patients who were given plasma therapy have shown improvement in their health condition, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation. Two of the four patients, whose condition was serious, have now been shifted to general ward from the ICU and two others are also responding well, he said. The chief minister, however, said that these are only initial results and nobody should think that the government has found a cure for coronavirus. In the plasma therapy, antibodies from the blood of a patient, who has recovered from COVID-19, are used to treat serious patients.Kejriwal appealed to all people who have recovered from the disease to come forward and donate plasma for serious COVID-19 patients to save their lives. The number of containment zones in Delhi stood to 92, with three new zones being added in various areas, authorities said. On the other hand, the Mansara Apartment in east Delhi's Vasundhara Enclave that was declared a coronavirus containment zone has been de-sealed after no new cases were reported over past few weeks. Amid the curbs, the Delhi Police said azaan may be carried out in accordance with the National Green Tribunal guidelines and urged people to follow the lockdown norms during the holy fasting month of Ramzan, beginning Saturday. The police's appeal comes soon after a video surfaced on social media where two policemen were purportedly telling people that azaan was not allowed during the lockdown as per the lieutenant governor's order. The Delhi Minorities Commission also raised the issue with the Delhi government, while AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan shared the video. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia clarified that there is no restriction on azaan (call for prayer). "In lockdown, there is a complete ban on gathering of people for prayers in mosques or at any other religious place," Sisodia tweeted. Delhi Police asked people to pray at home during Ramzan. "The pious month of Ramzan starts from 25.04.2020. While observing roza and prayers, we expect everyone to follow lockdown as per the guidelines," it tweeted. "Azaan may be carried out in accordance with NGT guidelines. It is requested that namaz may be performed while staying indoors and have Sehri at home. All must stand united to fight COVID-19 and follow the guidelines," it added. With the number of government schools falling short of providing food to the needy in wake of ongoing lockdown, Delhi Chief Secretary Vijay Dev directed district magistrates to set up food shelters at private schools, community centres and other places in case of need. According to an official, in his order, the chief secretary said that while it will be preferable that food shelters are set up at government buildings, in case of exigency and non-availability of public space, private premises can be used for the same. New Delhi, Apr 22 () The Delhi Waqf Board has appealed to people to offer prayers at home during the month of Ramzan and asked mosques under its jurisdiction to create awareness about official guidelines to fight the coronavirus pandemic.The advisory issued by Delhi Waqf Board CEO SM Ali is addressed to all the mosques in the city, specifically those under the Board's jurisdiction, an official said.According to the advisory, people should stay at their homes to offer namaz during Ramzan. However, Imams, Muazzins and Mutawallis can offer the prayers at mosques.Special prayers should be held at mosques for respite from coronavirus during the holy month of Ramzan, it said."The mosques have been asked to create awareness about various guidelines of the government related to the epidemic. The mosques have been advised to broadcast the guidelines after each Azaan (call to prayer) and also at other times through loudspeakers," the official said.The advisory also asks people to maintain social distancing, use sanitisers and maintain general cleanliness.The month of Ramzan, during which followers of Islam observe fast from dawn to dusk, will begin from the coming weekend. Whether you realise it or not, if you are reading this article, you also play an important role in the creator economy. But what does it really mean? And how is India going to be a leader in it? Let us break it down for you. The Beginning The process of creating content has existed for centuries. Whether it's painting, writing, poetry, music, cinema, they are all different ways of creating content. But the words ‘Creator Economy’ did not formalize until 2016, when user generated content (UGC) came to the forefront on the internet. Thus immense opportunities began emerging for those creating content. The Creator Economy basically refers to all the players that operate in and around the value that is created by creators. This includes social media, blogs, and video content - by creating original content or repurposing it. It soon began to include software products and tools designed to enable these content creators. Let us specifically take a look at the rise of the creator economy in India, and how India could dominate this sector. India’s Dominance To understand this, we need to go back to September 2016, when Jio launched in India, and started providing free internet. Jio disrupted the telecom industry with its prices, even pushing Vodafone and Idea to almost bankruptcy. The entry of Jio did not only lead to an increase in the number of internet users, but it also led to an increase in the amount of internet being consumed and distributed by the existing users. The current number stands at over <a href="https://www.statista.com/statistics/255146/number-of-internet-users-in-india/">840 Million users.</a> With a total population of almost <a href="https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/india-population/">1.38 Billion Indians, </a>there’s still a lot of room for growth. This rise in internet usage is also very well documented by the take-over of Indian channels in the YouTube space. Currently, there are 3 mega channels in the top 10 most subscribed channels in the world, with T Series on the top, with over 200 Million subscribers. Now the thing is… For a content creator to do well, they need social currency - which essentially boils down to the number of people that care about them on the internet, represented by the number of followers or subscribers. India has the 2nd largest population in the world, but its internet penetration is approximately 61%. Now the US has a population of 346 Million, but with an <a href="https://www.statista.com/topics/2237/internet-usage-in-the-united-states/#dossierKeyfigures">internet penetration of 90%, at 313 Million.</a> This means that there are a lot more Indians who are yet to get on the internet. Thus, as the number of internet users increase, creators will have a bigger market to gain followers / subscribers. This is where the value of the Indian population comes, and international creators also recognize the potential in store. International creators have now started targeting the Indian audience with more India specific content, or dubbing the content to Hindi. Mr Beast, the biggest YouTuber in the world, is working on doing just that! To target the international audience, he has started dubbing his existing videos into different languages like Spanish, Russian etc, and is soon planning to dub his content to Hindi, which could become his largest international audience. Brands too see that value of the Indian audience through its creators. International brands that want to come into India and capture a market, could easily do so through these Indian creators that have an influence. A great example would be Netflix which came into India in 2016. Since then it has onboarded several big content creators such as Tanmay Bhatt, Kusha Kapila and the likes, to create content for their YouTube channel, as well as promote the brand on their respective channels. But here’s the catch…. North America is majorly an English-speaking audience. They have one thing in common, which is the language. Now when it comes to India, we are known for our diversity in culture, religion, but most importantly, language. This is, both good and bad for us. Here’s why. To consume any content, it needs to be relatable and understood by the audience. But what do you do if you simply don't understand the language? Even though the number of internet users is over 800 Million in India, not all of them will understand all the content that is put on it, just because of the language barrier. This is where the good part comes in, which is that creativity is not bound by language or region. Internet penetration has given people from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to showcase their talent on the internet. India has seen a massive growth in regional content across various languages like Tamil, Kannada, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi etc. This has created smaller communities of people that belong to the same culture, background and, beyond everything, has given them a sense of belonging. So if you can't follow 1 creator because of the language they use, you have a number of creators you can follow who make content of the language you understand! India is also a land of over <a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/news/variety/india-is-home-to-more-than-19500-mother-tongues/article24305725.ece#:~:text=Press%20Trust%20of%20India%20More,of%20121%20crore%2C%20it%20said.">19,000 dialects</a>. This creates a unique opportunity for multilingual creators to repurpose content from successful creators and make it their own for their region - true driver of the creator economy in India. Beyond just creators and their audience, this also gives brands the opportunity to target regional audiences in a more concrete and concentrated sense, than they would be able to otherwise. Metaverse for different languages? Now that it has been established how content creation and audience generation will be driven mostly by language, here is an interesting question. What is the future going to look like as we move closer and closer to the metaverse? Are we going to see different Worlds in the Metaverse for different languages? Does this mean that we will have smaller yet stronger communities in the virtual world? Or will AI driven technology help us translate conversations in live time so we can all co-exist in one virtual world? Only time will tell how the Metaverse will shape itself around this.

India’s power to establish itself as the hub of the creator economy

Mandsaur (MP), Jun 14 () As religious places are being reopened for devotees after easing of restrictions, a famous Shiva temple in Madhya Pradesh's Mandsaur has installed a bell with sensor, which can ring without the need for physically touching it. This contactless bell, developed by an elderly Muslim man, has been fitted at the famous Ashtmukhi Pashupatinath Mahadev temple to avoid physical contact and thereby curb the spread of coronavirus. In Hindu temples, bells are usually hung in the area or porch preceding the inner sanctum and devotees ring them as an invocation to the deity. Temples across Madhya Pradesh have reopened after two months with strict guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs), which includes that devotees cannot ring the bells. Talking to on Sunday, 62-year-old Nahru Khan Mev, the brain behind this sensor-operated bell, said, "When I saw that 'azaan' was allowed in mosques after the coronavirus- induced-lockdown and religious places were opened for devotees, I thought that temple bells should also be allowed to be rung." "Keeping this in mind, I got a sensor from Indore and prepared a machine at my factory here at a cost of about Rs 6,000 and placed it in the temple," he said. The bell starts ringing as soon as a devotee comes under it or folds his hands beneath it to pay respect to the deity, Mev, who manufactures small machines at his factory, added. "I presented this bell to the temple," Mev said, adding that devotees visiting the temple were happy as the bell can ring without any contact. Mandsaur district collector, Manoj Pushp, who is also the chairman of the temple trust said, "This bell not only serves the religious purpose, but also fulfills the central guidelines." Mev said, "I want that other temples in the country should also have such sensor-operated bells so that devotees coming to the temples can ring it even during the coronavirus scare.
