Google-backed Aye Finance brings on board former Hero Fincorp Chief Business Officer

New Delhi, Jan 16 () Aye Finance on Thursday said one of its early investors, Accion has sold its stake in the Indian fintech company to A91 Partners.
 However, the company did not provide any financial details.
 Accion Venture Lab had exited its investment in Aye Finance in 2018, and the latest announcement marks Accion's final exit through its Accion Global Investment (which invests in financial instutions and financial service providers), a statement said.
 Founded in 2014, Aye Finance addresses the credit challenges of the unbanked micro-enterprises in the country.
 Accion first participated in Aye's seed equity round in early 2015 along with SAIF Partners and provided additional capital in two subsequent equity rounds as well.
 In the early years Accion also partnered with Aye on various advisory projects across risk and analytical verticals, the statement said.
 "Accion has been a supportive partner in our transition from a startup to a mid-size organisation. We are grateful for their initial capital and advisory support in the last 5 years," Sanjay Sharma, founder and managing director of Aye Finance, said.
 He added that the latest deal was led by Kaushik Anand of A91, who was earlier on the company's board as nominee director of CapitalG.
 "This investment from A91 is a clear reaffirmation of the confidence of our investors in our team and our business model," Sharma added. SR SHW

Accion sells stake in Aye Finance to A91 Partners

New Delhi, Dec 26 () Aye Finance, the CapitalG-backed fintech lender, on Thursday said it has raised Rs 107 crore as debt funding from Swiss-based BlueOrchard.
 "BlueOrchard has been supporting Aye in its mission to enable the financial inclusion of micro enterprises since May 2017 and has taken a total exposure of Rs 290 crore in the MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) lender," according to a statement.
 Aye will utilise the latest round of fund to extend affordable and customised credit solutions in the country, it added.
 Last month, Aye Finance had announced it raised Rs 125 crore from Dutch development bank FMO. In the current year, Aye has raised over Rs 1,140 crore in debt and equity from entities including CapitalG, Falcon Edge, HDFC, ICICI and DCB Bank, other than FMO and BlueOrchard.
 Since its inception in 2014, Aye Finance has provided Rs 2,700-crore credit to over 1.96 lakh grassroots businesses, the statement said.
 "This is the sixth round of funds we have received from BlueOrchard, and I believe this demonstrates their comfort with and commitment to our business," Aye Finance Managing Director and founder Sanjay Sharma said.
 Lending to micro enterprises has been a less-travelled path for banks and financial companies and, hence, it is satisfying to have established an innovative paradigm of lending approach, he added.
 Normunds Mizis, chief credit officer at BlueOrchard, said India is an important market for the company, and it has been actively investing here for almost 20 years.
 "We have been working with Aye Finance since 2017. This additional funding is testament to our conviction in the company's mission to bridge the gap between loans offered by MFIs (microfinance institutions) and those available from commercial banks, offering MSMEs across India access to attractive credit solutions," Mizis said. Aye Finance gets Rs 107 cr in debt funding from BlueOrchard

New Delhi, Nov 20 () Fintech startup Aye Finance on Wednesday said it has raised Rs 125 crore from Dutch entrepreneurial development bank FMO through issuance of non-convertible debentures.
 With this fundraising, Aye plans to expand its outreach in providing credit, specifically to women-owned microenterprises in India, the company said in a statement.
"While we have women as co-applicants for over 95 per cent of our loans, we believe we can do more in enabling the women micro enterprises of India bring about a more transformative impact on the economy," Aye Finance MD and founder Sanjay Sharma said.
Under the deal, FMO will work with Aye Finance to expand their services to women entrepreneurs in the country through a gender finance programme.
"We expanded our branch network this year to Bihar, Jharkhand, Gujarat and Maharashtra which have a prevalence of women entrepreneurship and with these funds from FMO we will be supporting the growth of women-led enterprises in these states as well as in other 14 states where we have our presence," Sharma said.
 The transaction was syndicated and executed by Chennai-based Northern Arc Capital which invested in Aye Finance in January this year.
 "The debentures issued by Aye are particularly interesting as the on-lending will be to micro entrepreneurs, of which half will be dedicated to women entrepreneurs in the financial inclusion area of underbanked end clients," Linda Broekhuizen, Chief Investment Officer, FMO said.
 CapitalG, growth equity investment fund of Google's parent company Alphabet Inc, has also invested Rs 115 crore in Aye Finance in 2018-19.
With the recent fundraising, Aye Finance's total funding has crossed Rs 2,200 crore comprising debt fund of over Rs 1,700 crore and equity investment of Rs 500 crore.

Aye Finance raises Rs 125 crore from Dutch bank FMO

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday ordered fresh testing of <keyword id="92247" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="johnson-johnson" source="Orion">Johnson &amp; Johnson</keyword> <keyword id="1599878" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="baby-powder" source="Orion">baby powder</keyword> samples and permitted the company to manufacture the product but to not <keyword id="6368389" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sell" source="Orion">sell</keyword> it, as per the Maharashtra government order. The company had filed a petition challenging two orders of the state government- one dated September 15 cancelling the license and the second dated September 20 ordering to immediately stop manufacturing and sale of the company's baby powder product. The orders were passed by the joint commissioner and licensing authority of the state <keyword id="54048" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="food-and-drug-administration" source="Orion">Food and Drug Administration</keyword> (<keyword id="6354656" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="fda" source="Orion">FDA</keyword>). The government based its orders on the report of the Central Drug Laboratory in Kolkata, which found the powder contained a higher pH level than prescribed. A division bench of Justices S V Gangapurwala and S G Dige on Wednesday directed the FDA to collect fresh samples from the company's factory in the Mulund area of Mumbai within three days. The sample would then be sent to three laboratories - two government labs and a private one - for testing. "The samples shall be sent to the <keyword id="580086" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="central-drug-testing-laboratory" source="Orion">Central Drug Testing Laboratory</keyword>, west zone, FDA lab and the Intertech Laboratory for testing," the court said. "The labs shall submit a report within one week thereafter," it added. Senior counsel Ravi Kadam, appearing for the company, sought that the court till then permits the company to at least start manufacturing the product. "The petitioner is restrained from selling or distributing the baby powder product by the government. The company shall abide by this order. If the company chooses to manufacture the product then it would be at their own risk," the bench said. The HC posted the matter for further hearing on November 30. The company had in its plea said 14 random batches of February, March and September 2022 were tested by an independent public testing laboratory and all were found to be well within the prescribed pH value. The leading Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) manufacturer said it has been making the baby powder at its Mulund plant for the last 57 years and its license was renewed in January 2020. The company also said due to the license revocation, it suffered a daily loss of Rs 2.5 crore based on the market value of the goods sold. It has a separate entity, NBFC Oxyzo Financial Services, to offer financing solutions to SMEs. This entity has a loan book of $240 million, with 5,000 borrowers to the list. The company claims to be at an annual revenue run-rate of $1.4 billion. The feature will be available only next year, and customers will have to purchase it to use Bachchan’s voice. “Technology has always given me an opportunity to adapt to new forms. Be it in movies, TV shows, podcasts and now, I am excited to create this voice experience in partnership with Amazon and Alexa. With voice technology, we are building something to engage more effectively with my audience and well-wisher,” said Bachchan in a statement. Amazon has long been experimenting with celebrity voices for its voice assistant Alexa. Amazon India has been ramping up the offerings from Alexa. Recently, Amazon announced that Echo users can also use Spotify through the device in addition to Amazon Music, Jio Saavn, Apple Music and others. Last year, it also announced that Indian users can now pay bills through the voice assistant feature through Amazon Pay. “We consistently obsess over customer needs and consider their feedback when developing new Alexa features,” Puneesh Kumar, Country Manager for Alexa Experiences and Devices, Amazon India had then said. Amitabh Bachchan to be the first Indian celebrity voice for Amazon’s Alexa

Players' opinions have generally lined up with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jay-bilas-destroys-ncaa-johnny-manziel-scandal-2013-8">the way they view the NCAA's stance on amateurism</a>.
There is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/johnny-manziel-autograph-scandal-ncaa-hypocrisy-2013-8">plenty of hypocrisy involved</a>, but Dickerson's take is particularly lacking in self-awareness.

Dickerson played for <keyword id="731560" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="SMU">SMU</keyword> during the peak of it's recruiting corruption. The program was so corrupt that the <keyword id="125824" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="NCAA">NCAA</keyword> shut it down for two-years, a punishment known as the "death penalty." 
In Dickerson's era players <a href="http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/college-sports/smu-mustangs/20120723-flashback-smu-gets-ncaa-death-penalty-worse-than-penn-state.ece">where given actual contracts by SMU boosters</a> to play as "amateurs" at the university.
Dickerson also made headlines when he drove a gold 1979 Pontiac Trans-Am to high school. The car was financed by his elderly grandmother but believed to be a gift for his commitment to, of all schools, <keyword id="743873" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Texas-AM">Texas A&amp;M</keyword>. Dickerson would later pull out from his verbal commitment to the Aggies and play for SMU, who helped him pay the rest of his car payments.

Dickerson was one of the most heralded high school football players in Texas history. He of all people should know how difficult life in the spotlight can be. A guy who once had a recruiter bring <a href="http://articles.latimes.com/1987-05-09/sports/sp-4667_1_eric-dickerson">$50,000 to his house in a briefcase</a> should be standing up for a kid trying to traverse the traps Manziel currently faces.
It was pretty dumb if Manziel signed autographs for five-figures. It is outrageous that everyone but him can make money off his ability.
It is incredibly absurd for Dickerson, the pot, to call the kettle black.
