Passenger vehicle registrations dipped to 3,03,358 units last month, as compared with 3,35,123 units in May 2023. "Dealers cited the impact of elections, extreme heat and market liquidity issues as major factors for the dip in sales last month," the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) President Manish Raj Singhania said. Despite better supply, some pending bookings and discount schemes, the lack of new models, intense competition and poor marketing efforts by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) also affected sales, he added. Additionally, the month saw increased customer postponements and low enquiries, Singhania stated. Due to the extreme heat, the number of walk-ins to showrooms dropped by around 18 per cent, he said. Two-wheeler sales rose 2 per cent to 15,34,856 units in May, as against 14,97,778 units in the same month last year. Singhania said positive rural demand on account of good rains in some regions and improved finance availability kept the counters ticking. Three-wheeler retails rose 20 per cent year-on-year to 98,265 units last month. While commercial vehicle sales witnessed an increase of 4 per cent at 83,059 units last month, as compared to 79,807 units in May 2023. "Despite growth due to a low base from last year and increased bus orders, the industry faced challenges due to wholesale pressures, government policy effects, and negative market sentiment," Singhania said. He noted that the near-term outlook for automobile retail is 'cautiously optimistic', influenced by a mix of positive and challenging factors across various segments. Government formation is expected to bring stability and improve market sentiment, Singhania said. Dealers are hopeful about better supplies and positive movement in key sectors like cement, coal and iron ore, he said. Above normal rains during monsoon, is expected to enhance rural demand and support economic activities, he added. "However, extreme weather, such as heatwaves and heavy rains, along with the reopening of schools in July, might delay purchase decisions," Singhania said. Challenges persist, including intense competition, lack of new model launches and poor marketing efforts by OEMs, he said. FADA, which represents over 15,000 automobile dealerships having over 30,000 dealership outlets, collated sales data from 1,360 out of 1,503 RTOs across the country. Passenger vehicle retail sales dip 1% in May as excessive heat, elections impact demand: FADA

<keyword id="20163833" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Passenger-vehicle" source="keywords">Passenger vehicle</keyword> wholesales in India declined 2.5 per cent year-on-year to 3,41,510 units in July, impacted by high base effect as well as companies reducing vehicle dispatches to dealers amid moderation in demand. The overall passenger vehicle (PV) dispatches from companies to dealers stood at 3,50,355 units in July 2023, <keyword id="20081560" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="automobile-industry" source="keywords">automobile industry</keyword> body <keyword id="20185536" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SIAM" source="keywords">SIAM</keyword> said on Wednesday. <keyword id="21653561" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="utility-vehicles" source="keywords">Utility vehicles</keyword> continued to drive sales of PVs, clocking 1,88,217 units last month, as against 1,80,831 units in July 2023, a growth of 4.1 per cent, as per the data issued by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Passenger cars, however, recorded a drop of 12 per cent at 96,652 units, as against 1,09,859 units in the same month last year. Industry observers pointed out that after high-paced growth witnessed in the past couple of years, the industry is witnessing moderation in demand. Besides, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) also undertook stock corrections in July to reduce inventory in the network. As per SIAM data, <keyword id="22783202" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="two-wheeler-wholesales" source="keywords">two-wheeler wholesales</keyword> grew by 12.5 per cent to 14,41,694 units last month, as compared to 12,82,054 units in July 2023. <keyword id="20067449" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="motorcycles" source="keywords">Motorcycles</keyword> wholesales were up 4.1 per cent at 8,50,489 units in July 2024, as against 8,17,206 units in the year-ago month, SIAM said. Scooters sales were up 29.2 per cent at 5,53,642 units last month, as against 4,28,640 units in the year-ago period. Three-wheeler wholesales also rose 5.1 per cent to 59,073 units from 56,204 units in July last year. "Though three-wheeler and two-wheeler segments are performing well, there has been some de-growth of passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles in July 2024, compared to July 2023," SIAM President Vinod Aggarwal said in a statement. He, however, said the above average rainfall coupled with upcoming festive season is likely to again propel growth in the short term. "In addition, enabling budget announcements which emphasise on overall economic growth with fiscal support for infrastructure and rural sector should augur well for the auto sector in the medium-term," Aggarwal said.

Domestic passenger vehicle wholesales dips 2.5% at 3,41,510 units in July: SIAM

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (<keyword id="354719" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="fada" source="Orion">FADA</keyword>), the leading body of automobile retail in India, on Thursday submitted a critical representation to the Goods and Services Tax (<keyword id="6354679" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="gst" source="Orion">GST</keyword>) Council, urging an immediate reduction in the GST rate on two-wheelers from the current 28 per cent to 18 per cent. This timely and decisive intervention is aimed at making two-wheelers more affordable, reviving demand and reinvigorating an industry that has seen a significant slump in sales over the past few years, according to a statement from FADA. FADA President Manish Raj Singhania affirmed, "The two-wheeler industry is at a critical juncture, grappling with unprecedented challenges such as rising inflation, stringent emission norms, and the post-COVID-19 effects in Bharat of India." He said this is the opportune moment for the GST Council to reduce the GST rate on two-wheelers, making them more accessible for the common man, thereby providing the much-needed boost to the industry, generating employment opportunities and fostering India's overall economic growth. FADA's compelling appeal has been forwarded to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, chair of the GST Council, all GST Council members; the Ministry of Heavy Industries, which supervises the automobile sector and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This action underscores the urgency and significance of the issue, it added. FADA said over the past few years, the prices of various two-wheelers have risen significantly, impacting their affordability for consumers across India. This surge in prices can be attributed to multiple factors, including the rising cost of raw materials, stricter emission norms and higher taxes and levies, FADA said, adding that for instance, the price of the popular -- Honda Activa -- has escalated from Rs 52,000 in 2016 to Rs 88,000 in 2023. Similarly, the Bajaj Pulsar has witnessed a substantial increase from Rs 72,000 in 2016 to Rs 1,50,000 in 2023. The Hero Splendor and <keyword id="1871753" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tvs-jupiter" source="Orion">TVS Jupiter</keyword> have also experienced considerable price hikes over the same period, with their prices soaring from Rs 46,000 to Rs 74,801 and Rs 49,000 to Rs 88,498, respectively. The continuous rise in two-wheeler prices has consequently led to a decline in sales, emphasising the pressing need for intervention and GST rate reduction to restore the industry's growth trajectory, according to the statement. In 2016, two-wheelers accounted for 78 per cent of the total automobile sales in India. However, due to continuous price increases since 2020, this contribution has fallen to 72 per cent in FY23, underlining the impact of the steep price hike. FADA believes that a reduction in the GST rate will address several critical issues facing the industry, including rural distress, the transition from BS-4 to BS-6 emission norms and the sharp increase in two-wheeler prices. Lowering the GST rate will enhance the competitiveness of two-wheelers compared to other transportation modes, thereby increasing sales and revenue for the industry. The association also said two-wheelers play a pivotal role in providing affordable mobility to a large segment of India's population, especially in rural areas where public transportation is sparse. FADA also asserted that two-wheelers, being essential for millions, should not be categorised as sin goods or luxury items for GST taxation purposes. Automobile dealers' association seeks GST cut on 2-wheelers from 28% to 18%

Retail sales of overall vehicles in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> grew by 15.28 per cent to 2,11,20,441 units in 2022 led by record sales of passenger vehicles and tractors, <keyword id="1692051" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="federation-of-automobile-dealers-associations" source="Orion">Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations</keyword> (<keyword id="354719" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="fada" source="Orion">FADA</keyword>) said on Thursday. In 2021, total retail sales of vehicles in India were at 1,83,21,760 units, FADA said in a statement. Two-wheelers retail sales stood at 1,53,88,062 units last year, a growth of 13.37 per cent from 2021 when sales stood at 1,35,73,682 units. Passenger vehicles (PV) retail sales were at 34,31,497 units in 2022, as against 29,49,182 units in 2021, up 16.35 per cent, it added. FADA President Manish Raj <keyword id="1114" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="singhania" source="Orion">Singhania</keyword> said, "For CY2022, while total vehicle retails grew by 15 per cent year-on-year and 17 per cent compared to CY20 it failed to surpass CY19 retails, (a pre-Covid year) and registered a fall of 10 per cent." He further said, "The PV category during this period continued to gain new grounds by clocking 34.31 lakh retails during the full year. This is by far, the highest retails which PV has done till date." Singhania, however, lamented that the two-wheeler segment once again failed to impress as retail sales during December 2022 continued to fall after two good months. "Reasons like rise in inflation, increased cost of ownership, rural market yet to pick up fully and increased EV sales, the ICE (internal combustion engine) two-wheeler segment is yet to see any green shoots," he added. In 2022, commercial vehicles retail sales stood at 8,65,344 units, as against 6,55,696 units in 2021, a growth of 31.97 per cent. "The CV segment has continued to grow during entire CY2022 and is now almost at par with CY2019 retails. With an uptick in demand in LCV (light commercial vehicles), HCV (heavy commercial vehicles), buses and construction equipment, the government's continued push for infrastructure development has kept this segment going," Singhania said. He also said the three-wheeler segment which was completely down during <keyword id="8764262" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="covid" source="Orion">Covid</keyword> has recovered well and has narrowed its gap when compared to CY2019. "Within the segment it's the electric rickshaw sub-segment which is showing triple-digit growth thus pushing the EV market share above 50 per cent mark," he added. Three-wheeler retail in 2022 stood at 6,40,559 units, as compared to 3,73,562 units in 2021, up 71.47 per cent. Singhania said the tractor segment was the only other segment apart from PV which has grown well above calendar years 2021,2020 and pre-Covid year of 2019. "It has also registered a new lifetime high sales of 7.94 lakh units. This feat was possible due to consistently good monsoon, improved cash flow with farmers, better MSP of crops and government's focus on better procurements," he added. Tractor retail sales in 2021 were at 7,69,638 units. Apart from this, timely sowing of rabi crops also helped to continue this momentum. Festive season sales which were normal after 3 years also played its part in this strong momentum, Singhania said. In December 2022, FADA said the total vehicle retail sales were down 5.4 per cent at 16,22,317 units as against 17,14,942 units in the year-ago month. Two-wheelers retail sales stood at 11,33,138 units last month, as against 12,75,894 units in December 2021, a decline of 11.19 per cent, FADA said. Passenger vehicle retail sales were at 2,80,016 units as compared to 2,58,921 units in December 2021, up 8.15 per cent, while commercial vehicles segment witnessed retail sales of 66,945 units as compared to 60,491 units in December 2021, a growth of 10.67 per cent. On the outlook, FADA said global geopolitical headwinds, tightening monetary policy and the lingering effect of the pandemic have combined to create a gloomy global outlook. "Auto OEMs have done routine price hikes in December and have announced the same at the beginning of this year. Apart from this, BS-VI phase II norms coming in, there will be further price hikes across all categories," it said, adding to counter this, Auto OEMs should announce special schemes so that retail sales momentum continues. Due to inflation pressure, upcoming change in vehicle norms resulting in price hikes, FADA said it remains cautious during the last quarter of FY23. Total vehicle retail sales jump 15 pc to 2.11 crore units in 2022: FADA

As per the latest data issued by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), dispatches of passenger vehicles (PVs) from manufacturers to dealers were 2,75,352 units in December 2022. Two-wheeler domestic wholesales stood at 12,11,966 units last month as against 10,45,052 units in December 2022, a growth of 16 per cent. Similarly, <keyword id="411593" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="three-wheeler" source="Orion">three-wheeler</keyword> wholesales were higher at 50,537 units last month as compared to 38,693 units in December 2022.

Passenger vehicle wholesales rise 4% to 2,86,390 units in December

Addressing the fifth <keyword id="11938231" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="auto-retail-conclave" source="Orion">Auto Retail Conclave</keyword>, Gadkari said the government is encouraging a circular economy, and accordingly the government will give permission to dealers to start vehicle scrapping facilities. He also noted that India is encouraging use of alternate fuel and biofuel and pointed out that the government is working to make India the largest manufacturer of green hydrogen. The minister pointed out that India is the fastest growing major economy in the world and <keyword id="128764" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="auto-dealers" source="Orion">auto dealers</keyword> will play an important role in making India a USD 5 trillion economy. India is the fourth largest manufacturer of passenger vehicles and the sixth largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles, he said. "Though the passenger vehicle and three-wheeler segments are performing well, there has been a de-growth of two-wheelers in July 2023, compared to July 2022. As per the latest data issued by <keyword id="1577311" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="society-of-indian-automobile" source="Orion">Society of Indian Automobile</keyword> Manufacturers (SIAM) dispatches of passenger vehicles (PVs) from manufacturers to dealers were at 2,94,392 units in May 2022. SIAM Director General <keyword id="217489" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="rajesh-menon" source="Orion">Rajesh Menon</keyword> said sales of passenger vehicles in May 2023 have been the highest ever witnessed for the month of May. Utility vehicle wholesales, excluding that of <keyword id="42747" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="Orion">Tata Motors</keyword> which shares its numbers quarterly, grew by 33.5 per cent last month at 1,55,184 units, as compared to 1,16,255 units in the year-ago period. Two-wheeler domestic wholesales were at 14,71,550 units, as against 12,53,187 units in May last year, a growth of 17.42 per cent. Motorcycles sales grew by 20.63 per cent at 9,89,120 units last month, as compared to 8,19,940 units in May 2022, SIAM said. Scooter sales also rose 12.18 per cent at 4,46,593 units, as against 3,98,099 units in the year-ago month. Similarly, three-wheeler wholesales were higher at 48,732 units, as compared to 28,595 units in May 2022. Total vehicle dispatches across categories, excluding Tata Motors, were at 18,08,686 units as compared to 15,32,861 units in May 2022, SIAM said. "All the segments viz. passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers have posted growth in double-digits in May 2023, compared to May 2022. We anticipate this trend to continue supported by the prevalent economic environment," SIAM President <keyword id="230167" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="vinod-aggarwal" source="Orion">Vinod Aggarwal</keyword> SIAM said. Overall passenger vehicle dispatches to dealers rose to 3,59,228 units last month from 3,28,376 units in August 2022. Utility vehicle sales increased 34% year-on-year to 1,81,825 units. Passenger car dispatches on the other hand declined 10% to 1,20,031 units from 1,33,477 units in August 2022. Van wholesales also dipped to 11,859 units from 12,236 units. "Last month saw the highest ever August month sales for passenger vehicles and three-wheelers," Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) President <keyword id="230167" type="General" weightage="40" keywordseo="Vinod-Aggarwal" source="Orion">Vinod Aggarwal</keyword> said in a statement. Three-wheeler sales rose to 64,763 units in August as against 38,369 units in the same month last year. Two-wheeler dispatches increased to 15,66,594 units from 15,57,429 units. "<keyword id="163191" type="General" weightage="60" keywordseo="two-wheeler-sales" source="Orion">Two-wheeler sales</keyword> remained at levels similar to a year ago," Aggarwal said adding that the industry also witnessed a good growth in the commercial vehicle segment in August 2023. "Based on the performance of last month, we are even more optimistic for demand to pick up during the festive season, enabled by positive economic outlook and the revival of monsoon after a deficit in August," Aggarwal said. In the passenger vehicle segment, Maruti Suzuki India saw an increase of 16% in dispatches to dealers at 1,56,114 units from 1,34,166 units in August 2022. Rival Hyundai Motor India dispatched 53,830 units to dealers as against 49,510 units in the same month last year.

On Tuesday, the data released by the <keyword id="1692051" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Federation-of-Automobile-Dealers-Associations">Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations</keyword> (FADA) showed that vehicle <keyword id="6357068" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Registration">registration</keyword> declined by 13.43 per cent to around 14.99 lakh in February 2021, compared to over 17.31 lakh units reported for the corresponding period of last year. Similarly, the registration count declined on a sequential basis to around 14.99 lakh in February from over 15.92 lakh in January 2021. However, in February 2021, registration of personal vehicles grew by 10.59 per cent on a YoY basis to 254,058 units. Similarly, tractor registration rose 18.89 per cent on a YoY basis in February to 61,351 units. In contrast, two-wheeler registration fell by 16.08 per cent to over 10.91 lakh units. Vehicle registrations fell 13.43% in February, says FADA

<keyword id="1392572" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="automobile-dealers">Automobile dealers</keyword>' body FADA on Tuesday said <keyword id="762866" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="passenger-vehicle">passenger vehicle</keyword> (PV) retail sales in November witnessed a year-on-year increase of 4.17 per cent to 2,91,001 units as <keyword id="8202952" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="diwali-dhanteras">Diwali-Dhanteras</keyword> period led to rise in <keyword id="815780" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vehicle-registrations">vehicle registrations</keyword>. According to <keyword id="9396466" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-federation-of-automobile-dealers-associations">the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations</keyword> (FADA), which collected vehicle registration data from 1,265 out of the 1,472 regional transport offices (RTOs), PV sales stood at 2,79,365 units in November 2019. Two-wheeler sales, however, declined 21.4 per cent to 14,13,378 units last month, as compared to 17,98,201 units in November 2019. Commercial vehicle sales also slipped 31.22 per cent to 50,113 units, as against 72,863 units a year ago. Similarly, three-wheeler sales fell 64.98 per cent to 24,185 units last month, from 69,056 units in the year-ago period. Tractor sales, however, grew by 8.47 per cent to 49,313 units last month, against 45,462 units in the same month last year. Total sales across categories declined 19.29 per cent to 18,27,990 units last month, compared to 22,64,947 units in the year-ago period. "While registrations during Navratri were tepid, people came out in good numbers to purchase their dream vehicles during the Dhanteras - Diwali period," <keyword id="9993894" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="fada-president-vinkesh-gulati">FADA President Vinkesh Gulati</keyword> said. New launches and specially compact SUV's continued to show good demand in the PV segment, he added. The two-wheeler segment continued to witness a shift from 100cc to 125cc and above category due to good harvesting coupled with Dhanteras-Diwali and marriage season, Gulati said. Commenting on small goods commercial vehicles, he said the segment continued to see good demand with increased level of transportation and last-mile connectivity needs. With schools and colleges continuing to remain closed, demand for buses remains weak. Similarly, the medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&amp;HCV) segment continues to play spoilsport with excessive capacity, high prices of BS-VI models, finance issues and high fuel price, Gulati noted. "FADA once again urges the government to increase infrastructure spending, including timely payment to vendors and introduce attractive incentive based scrappage policy to revive the M&amp;HCV segment," he added. On sales outlook, Gulati said with the festive season coming to a close, demand revival now solely depends on year-end schemes. "If the supply chain issues in the passenger vehicle segment are controlled, we may see continued growth in December," he added. Gulati also cautioned the two-wheeler Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEMs) and dealers to keep a check on vehicle inventory as post festivals, demand may remain subdued. "Despite a 10 % YoY growth, the Auto Retail sector has seen an 8 % MoM dip, indicating a short-term deceleration in sales," FADA president Manish Raj Singhania. "In comparison to pre-Covid levels, the overall auto retail marked a marginal decrease of 3 %, with 2W as the sole laggard. Conversely, the CV segment experienced a 1.5 % growth compared to June'19, surpassing the pre-Covid levels for the first time," Singhania said. Further, FADA said June 2023 witnessed the three-wheeler market's robust growth, primarily owing to the previous year's low base effect and positive market sentiment. "The delayed and uneven rains may reduce crop yields, shorten crop cycles and cause a delay in future crop arrivals. Such developments may affect the sales of automobiles, particularly in rural areas where a weak agricultural season could lead to a reduction in disposable income, thus affecting demand for two-wheelers and entry-level cars." However, upcoming rains may potentially boost agricultural prospects, revive rural demand, and positively influence automotive sales. FADA said it remains cautiously optimistic for the near term.
