The company said motorcycle sales were lower at 1,53,047 units in August 2023 as against 1,57,118 units in the same month last year, while scooter sales increased to 1,42,502 units from 1,21,866 units in the year-ago month. The total domestic sales dropped 20 % to 2,05,100 units in the previous month as compared to 2,56,755 units sold in August 2022, <keyword id="196995" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bajaj-auto-ltd" source="Orion">Bajaj Auto Ltd</keyword> said in a statement. Total vehicle exports fell 6 % year-on-year to 1,36,548 units in August from 1,44,840 units shipped to the overseas markets in the year-ago period, it said. Its total two-wheeler sales declined 20% to 2,85,031 units in the previous month from 3,55,625 units sold in August 2022. Two-wheeler exports, however, increased 2 % to 1,24,211 units in August 2023 as against 1,21,787 units in the same month last year. Maruti reports highest ever sales in August, Tata Motors and Bajaj Auto decline

Chrysler this morning reported U.S. sales of 143,017 units, a 1% bump compared with a year ago. It was the company's best September since 2007.
Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Hyundai will report later today. Analysts are expecting total sales to fall to 15.80 million units at a seasonally adjusted annualized rate, a drop from August's 16.02 million figure (Labor Day sales figured <a href="http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20131001/AUTO01/310010021/1148/rss25">were included in August's figures</a>, not September's).
Analysts also expect domestic vehicle sales to have fallen to 12.30 million SAAR in September from 12.44 million.
<keyword id="46211" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Auto-sales">Auto sales</keyword> have been posting a year-over-year gain for 2 years now.

New Auto Sales Data Coming Throughout The Day

On Friday, the big automakers will report their October sales stats.
Analysts believe sales accelerated to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/monday-scouting-report-oct-28-2013-2013-10">an annualized pace of 15.4 million units</a>, up from 15.3 million units in September.
"[I]ndustry surveys indicate that increased consumer caution during the government shutdown led to weak sales results in the first half of the month," <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/monday-scouting-report-oct-28-2013-2013-10">said Morgan Stanley's Ted Wieseman</a>. "Retail demand appears to have improved significantly after the shutdown ended, and fleet sales picked up, but with the weak start only a modest rebound in sales for the month as a whole is expected."
In the near-term, bullish forces remain in place for the auto industry.
"One factor supporting further gains for the automotive sector is the age of the US Auto Fleet, which R.L. Polk puts at 11.4 years in 2013," noted Oppenheimer's John Stoltzfus in a note to clients this week.
"Although quality improvements are likely allowing people to drive their vehicles longer, we think many have held off replacing their vehicles due to concerns about the economy.
"As employment and economic security increase in coming months, we believe we could see a sharp rise in <keyword id="46211" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Auto-sales">auto sales</keyword> as drivers trade in for new vehicles."
