<ul><li>Today is the 15th edition of Auto Expo and many experts think that the show has lost its charm as the big brands have backed out.</li><li>Sukrit Singh, Former CEO and Co-founder of Encompass and current owner of The Platform, shares a few reasons to visit the event. </li></ul> Today marks the 15th edition of the auto-expo. However, even before the opening a large number of people have written the epitaph of the bi-annual event. Yes, it’s true that several players like Hero Motor Corp, BMW, Fiat, Nissan and Ford will be conspicuous by their absence. Blame it on an industry in the throes of an existential crisis where marketers are unable to fathom returns. Yes, it’s true that the Chinese have dealt a double whammy – first by saving the auto show by their land grab, where 20% of the space is now rented to Chinese brands such as Great Wall, BYD and MG. However, the second whammy is the more sinister Coronavirus that has spread trepidation amongst the millions planning to visit. Whatever the threats - the big boys are in, and pretenders are waiting in the wings. Maruti, Mahindra, Tata, Hyundai and the successful new challenger Kia have their battle lines drawn. Each with space the size of a football field and an ammunition of connected cars, green engines, electric mobility and platforms for the sharing economy. Mercedes Benz loves their India story and there is no better place to flaunt it. The Chinese invasion is led by MG and we will see the debut of Great Wall Motors and BYD. The brave new world where Japan, China and Korea are preening in a war dance before fighting what is perhaps the last battle of Panipat. Looking at the rear-view mirror it will be interesting to note that the first auto show was held at Madison Square Garden, New York in the year 1900. For 120 years, auto-shows have been a combination of debutant ball coupled with a victory parade. Wining and pampering the press, glamorous hostesses showing off automobile models and a fantasy land of futuristic clay models, enough to draw vast hordes of the gullible public. It’s interesting to note that the last auto-show in Delhi had an attendance of 0.6 million people. Travelling to first world auto shows like Frankfurt and Los Angeles, one can’t help but notice the paradigm shift. Crowds are thinning, exhibition stalls are shrinking, and expenses are being questioned. Auto brands are now moving to 'sexier' platforms like Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and CES in Las Vegas. So, there you go – blame everything on the dirty 'D' word - Digital is the new reality! In today’s connected world the lines blur between physical and digital, where click-throughs are more valuable than visitors. Virtual reality lets you customize and create, and artificial intelligence engines are replacing horsepower. The Auto Show is now a daily event, on-demand on our phones and tablets; but is there a future for the good old event? Come to the 15th Delhi Auto Expo and judge for yourself. Don’t come for the glamorous girls - come to get a glimpse of smart devices that will drive mobility and change your world. Don’t come for the brands that have messed up (and are missing out) – come for the 60+ launches that repose faith and drive India’s future. Come to see petrol heads turn electric, come to see traditionalists go green and come to see yourself driven by the internet of things (IOT). Come to see mobile phone manufacturers – synergize with transport and internet providers explore new e-ways. There is no better place to see how rapidly the old order is changing and yielding place to new. Take the seat, shift gears and drive into the future at the 15th Auto Expo in Greater Noida. Auto Expo 2020: The show must go on

The country's largest carmaker <keyword id="44883" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="maruti-suzuki" source="Orion">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> India (<keyword id="6392170" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MSI" source="Orion">MSI</keyword>) is currently analysing customer feedback to ascertain if the <keyword id="7168801" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jimny" source="Orion">Jimny</keyword> brand could be introduced in India as part of its overall plan to strengthen the SUV portfolio, as per a senior company official. The auto major currently manufactures three-door Jimny at its Gurugram plant and exports to Middle East and African markets. The model, though compact in size, is well known for its off-road prowess. Jimny has been in the global market for over 50 years. "It is a segment worth looking into, that is the reason why we exhibited it in the <keyword id="73154" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Auto-Expo" source="Orion">Auto Expo</keyword> 2020. We have collected some very good feedback from the customers. We are studying this feedback and we will definitely see if we can introduce the product here," MSI Senior Executive Director (Sales and Marketing) <keyword id="169965" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shashank-Srivastava" source="Orion">Shashank Srivastava</keyword> told PTI in an interaction. This lifestyle SUV segment is small but there is a class of customers who really want that kind of a vehicle, he noted. "The volumes are less but such vehicles lift the image of an OEM. At the same time, it also helps support many customer aspirations," Srivastva said. He noted that various aspects, from pricing to component supply etc, need to be evaluated for launching any kind of new product in a market. "Due to COVID, there has been some delay regarding new product introductions. But now we are all set for new launches. We are looking at all segments where we think there are opportunities while strengthening our existing strong points," Srivastva stated. MSI is looking to consolidate its position in the mid-SUV segment where its market share remains low as compared to the rivals, he noted. "In the SUV segment our market share is around 13-14 per cent. If we go into the details, in the entry SUV segment, Vitara Brezza is the number one selling vehicle despite new launches. "But, if we look at the mid-SUV segment, which currently accounts for around 18 per cent of the entire PV segment, our market share is very low. We have <keyword id="2458725" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="s-cross" source="Orion">S-Cross</keyword> in that space which is not giving enough volume. So clearly we have a low market share in a growing segment," Srivastva said. The company is therefore looking at the mid-SUV segment very closely, he added. "We need to strengthen our product portfolio in this particular segment. We are looking at those places where we have weakness in our product range, bigger SUV space is one of those areas," Srivastva noted. As per SIAM data, utility vehicle sales in the April-November period of the current fiscal stood at 8,70,894 units, up 57 per cent from 5,55,746 units in the same period of the previous fiscal. Analysing customer feedback if Jimny brand can be introduced in India, says Maruti Suzuki

Mumbai, Jan 16 ( ) Industry body SIAM on Thursday said it expects that Auto Expo-Motor Show 2020 will help reviving the sector, which has reported the worst-ever decline in volume in the previous year.
Outlining the contours of the 6-day mega industry event, scheduled to be held in Greater Noida from February 7, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers ( SIAM) deputy director general Sugato Sen also said at this year's show as many as 65 various launches are expected as against 80 toll outs by the SIAM members during the 2018 show.
Besides, as many as 75 per cent of the passenger vehicle makers and 75 per cent of the commercial vehicle manufacturers are likely to participate in the mega industry event.
He also said that despite the Motor Show being hosted under "difficult circumstances", the footfall are expected to be the same as in the previous shows.
"The year 2020 will be generally negative in terms of volume. But we will be hoping the 2020 Motor show will be the launching pad for the revival of the industry," Sen said.
'Explore the World of Mobility' is the theme of the 15th edition of the show which is in line with the industry's vision and message of technology, capability - for a safer, cleaner, connected, bespoke and shared mobility for tomorrow, SIAM said.
"Despite facing severe business challenges this year at Auto Expo, the industry will get together and put the best efforts to give a new dimension and feel to the visitors, enabling them to Explore the World of Mobility.
"The 15th Edittion will be the auto show will be one of the cleanest &amp; greenest expo ever with complete range of clean &amp; green vehicles," Gurpratap Boparai, Chairman, SIAM Trade Fair Group and Managing Director, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited said.
The show will also feature new emission technology products and vehicles with more stringent safety standards under one roof, SIAM said, adding the auto show will not just be a futuristic perspective of the Indian auto industry but will also showcase Indian automotive industry's preparedness to adopt the BSVI norms.
The new emission standards are set to come into force from April 1.
The Expo will witness many new entrants including startups who are participating and showcasing their products and technologies in green mobility.
The show will also see the participation of some of the non-automotive companies such as Reliance Jio, among others. IAS BAL

Greater Noida, Feb 5 () Hyundai Sonata, Land Rover Range Rover Evoque and Mercedes-Benz CLA are among the top 10 cars competing this year for the coveted World Car Awards. The World Car Finals countdown officially began on Wednesday at the Auto Expo here with the announcement of the top 10 and top five finalists for five World Car Awards categories. The 2020 World Car of the Year winner will be selected from 10 finalists chosen from an initial list of 29 contenders. Kia Soul EV, Kia Telluride, Mazda3, Mazda CX-30, Mercedes-Benz GLB, Volkswagen Golf and Volkswagen T-Cross are the other finalists for World Car of the Year. "The Indian car market is already the fourth largest in the world, and projected to become third largest by 2022. India is therefore a crucial contributor to our annual process...," Siddharth Vinayak Patankar, Juror and Director of the World Car Awards program said. This is the first time World Car Awards is participating through its pavilion at the show. The pavilion showcases former winners of the World Car of the Year (WCOTY) award like Volkswagen Polo, Jaguar F-Pace and Volvo XC60. World Car Awards make pit stop at Auto Expo

Greater Noida, Feb 5 () South Korean auto maker Kia Motors on Wednesday launched its premium multi purpose vehicle Carnival, and showcased a new concept for a global SUV Sonet at the Auto Expo here. Carnival is being launched in India in three different specifications at a starting price of Rs 24.95 lakh for its Premium variant (ex-showroom), Rs 28.95 lakh for its Prestige variant (ex-showroom), and Rs 33.95 lakh for its Limousine variant (ex-showroom). Kia Sonet concept will be developed further ahead of a launch in the Indian market in the second half of 2020. Kia Motors India said it had received more than 1,400 bookings for the new car on the first day of orders and has a total of more than 3,500 bookings received till date. Kia had entered the Indian market with its SUV Seltos, which was displayed as SP Concept in the previous edition of the Auto Expo in 2018. Commenting on the India journey, Kia Motors India MD and CEO Kookhyun Shim said: "We have sought to understand Indian customers' aspirations, and match them with best-in-class products and services." He further said, "Our latest vehicle, Kia Carnival, is a clear example of this approach. Though it represents a leap up from the Seltos, into a premium, aspirational segment, it has been devised with the same passion." Shim further said, "As the Indian market evolves, we will continue to offer customers here the best and most innovative products and services." Kia Sonet concept is a compact SUV which will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki's Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Ford Ecosport. Kia Motors said the vehicle will be launched in India in the second half of 2020. Carnival, on the other hand, looks to enter a segment dominated by Toyota's Innova Crystal. It is powered by a 2.2-liter VGT BS6 diesel engine, paired with an eight-speed "Sportsmatic" transmission. Kia Motors launches premium MPV Carnival at Auto Expo

New Delhi, Feb 2 () Hyundai Motor India plans to showcase a range of products and future technologies, including the all new Creta and updated version of Tuscon, at the upcoming Auto Expo.
The 2020 Tuscon will be unveiled on February 5, while the new generation Creta will debut a day later on February 6, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) said in a statement.
The company will showcase 13 exciting cars and future ready technologies and concepts under the theme 'Freedom in Future Mobility', it said.
"Hyundai as a customer centric organisation will showcase the technology prowess...and unveil the upcoming trendsetter SUV's for the Indian market," HMIL MD and CEO S S Kim said.
The company has also plans to showcase Kona Electric along with NEXO FCEV at the biennial event, which will be held from February 5 to February 12 at Greater Noida. MSS

Facebook, SIAM joins hands to offer digital experience on auto expo

New Delhi, Jan 27 () German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz on Monday said it will launch its V-Class Marco Polo camper at the upcoming Auto Expo.
 The V-Class Marco Polo camper will come packed with a whole host of living space concepts, Mercedes-Benz India said in a statement.
 "At Auto Expo 2020, beside launching the AMG GT 4 Door Coupe and unveiling the A-Class Limousine and the New GLA SUV, we also will be launching something unique and never seen before in India," Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director &amp; CEO Martin Schwenk said.
 Inspired by the success of the V-Class Luxury MPV in India, he said: "We will be launching the V-Class Marco Polo Camper."
 The V-Class Marco Polo embodies these very characteristics combining outdoor ruggedness with Mercedes-Benz's luxury and technology, he added.
 "The V-Class camper is surely going to create a lot of interest among our customers, who already have shown overwhelming response to the V-Class luxury MPVs," Schwenk added.
 The Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo will be launched on February 6 at Auto Expo 2020, the company said.

Mercedes Benz to launch V-Class Marco Polo camper at Auto Expo

Greater Noida, Feb 12 () India's flagship motor show Auto Expo came to a close on Wednesday after witnessing over 70 product launches and unveils, recording a total of 6.08 lakh visitors over eight days. This edition of the Auto Expo witnessed over 352 product displays from 108 exhibitors, including eight global premiers, over 70 launches and unveils, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers said in a statement. Keeping in pace with the trend for eco-friendly vehicles, the expo also saw launch of 35 electric vehicles, while 15 concepts were showcased. New participants included Chinese players such as Great Wall Motors and Haima Automobile along with Olectra. The expo, however, missed the likes of Toyota, Honda, BMW, Audi and two-wheeler majors Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Co, which had stayed away from the show. The biennial motor show had kicked off on February 5 at India Expo Mart here under the shadow of coronavirus outbreak as officials of Chinese participants stayed away from pavilions, on a day when China's Great Wall Motor announced an investment of USD 1 billion to tap into the country's auto market. Reflecting on the experience of the latest edition of the expo, SIAM President Rajan Wadhera said, "Auto shows globally have evolved and transformed from being mere static displays to providing a unique and enriching experience for every segment of the society at large. Auto Expo ends with over 70 launches, unveils; records 6.08 lakh visitors

New Delhi, Jan 21 () Luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz India on Tuesday said it will launch AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC 4 door Coupe in the Auto Expo next month.
 Besides, the company will unveil all-new A-Class limousine, showcase the new GLA and EQC Edition 1886 during the biennial show.
 "Participation in Auto Expo reflects our unwavering commitment to our customers who want to associate with a winning and fundamentally strong brand," Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Martin Schwenk said in a statement. 
 The brand showcase planned by the company will not only fascinate its customers and enthusiasts, it will also send a strong message of excitement and positive sentiment, he added.
 "As leaders in the luxury car industry, our investments at the Auto Expo firmly reiterate Mercedes-Benz's confidence in the long-term prospect of the luxury car market and the bullishness of its customers; it also underline our responsibility to drive the industry and provide a positive stimulus to the market," Schwenk noted.
 The 15th edition of India's biennial flagship automobile show, Auto Expo, will be held from February 5-12 with many Chinese companies set to make their debut.
 While the likes of Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra and Tata Motors will continue to make their presence felt, notable absentees from the expo will be Honda, BMW and Ford, among others.

It'll travel 280 miles on a full charge and have enhanced handling thanks to a specially-tuned suspension, BMW says. All that performance doesn't come cheap — the iX M60 will run you $105,000 before fees. It hits US dealers in June. <h2>Chevrolet Silverado EV</h2><div type="image" title="EMBARGO 1/5 DNP: 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV" height="1202" width="1603" msid="88816291" hostid="261"></div>General Motors unveiled the much-anticipated <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/electric-chevy-silverado-ev-price-range-release-date-ford-f150-2022-1">Chevy Silverado EV</a> on Wednesday. The electric pickup truck will compete with the F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T when it hits the market in the middle of 2023. It promises up to 400 miles of range, 664 horsepower, and a host of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/electric-chevy-silverado-ev-features-charging-midgate-frunk-multiflex-tailgate-2022-1">interesting features</a>. For example, there's a pass-through between the Silverado's bed and cab that allows owners to haul extra-long cargo.The fully-loaded RST First Edition Silverado EV costs $105,000. Far from it. It'll cost $30,000 and bring another much-needed affordable option to the electric-car market. And it marked the occasion by unveiling a sleek electric SUV called the Airflow.The Airflow is just a concept for now, and Chrysler says its first EV will go into production in 2025. The InnerSpace is designed for a future of self-driving vehicles that aren't here yet. However, GM (Cadillac's parent company) boldly says it'll start selling fully autonomous vehicles by the middle of the decade. <h2>Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX</h2><div type="image" title="Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX concept EV." height="1563" width="2500" msid="88816297" hostid="261"></div>The whole idea behind the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mercedes-benz-electric-car-eqxx-620-mile-range-screen-tesla-2022-1">Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX</a> was to see how efficient an EV the German automaker could create. According to Mercedes, the lightweight, aerodynamic EQXX concept can travel 620 miles on a single charge of its battery. But some of the breakthroughs Mercedes made in its development could end up in your future electric Benz. <h2>Sony Vision-S 02</h2><h2><div type="image" title="Sony Vision S-02 concept." height="856" width="1142" msid="88816298" hostid="261"></div></h2>Sony unveiled an electric concept sedan back in 2020. Now it's getting more serious about venturing into the EV market, and it brought a new design to CES. The <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sony-electric-vehicle-prototype-playstation-sony-mobility-2022-1">Vision-S 02</a> is a prototype SUV with multiple screens and mobile-gaming capabilities. The concept also showcases a system of 40 cameras and sensors aimed at making driving safer by monitoring the car's surroundings and its driver. We don't know yet if Sony will sell its own EV or simply build technology for other manufacturers. It established a new division, Sony Mobility, to "explore entry into the EV market."

From a color-changing BMW to a Tesla-beating Mercedes, tour the coolest electric cars revealed this month

There was plenty of excitement among automakers at this year's edition of the conference and a focus on electrification, self-driving cars, and more sophisticated infotainment systems.But there was also a heavy dose of pragmatism. For every outlandish concept vehicle, like the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/mercedes-benz">Mercedes-Benz</a> <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mercedes-benz-vision-avtr-concept-car-no-steering-wheel-avatar-2020-1">Vision AVTR sedan</a>, which was inspired by the film "Avatar," there was a vehicle scheduled for production, or one that looked ready for it, like the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/nissan">Nissan</a> Ariya Concept, an electric SUV that was placed at the center of the automaker's booth. While labeled as a concept vehicle, the Ariya's styling wouldn't look out of place on the road today, and Nissan plans to release a production version next year. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/ford">Ford</a>, which at CES in 2018 <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ford-makes-push-catch-up-autonomous-vehicles-2018-1">outlined a vision</a> for connecting vehicles, pedestrians, and infrastructure while shying away from specific timelines, focused this year on its Mustang Mach-E electric SUV. The Mach-E will hit dealerships at the end of the year.Even at an event dedicated to the Vision AVTR, there was a connection to immediate, real-world concerns. It will also require a thoughtful approach to how those technologies interact with the world around them.Uber has clashed with some cities it entered without warning, leaving the ride-hailing service banned in <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/uber-lost-london-license-may-get-worse-warning-to-investors-neil-wilson-1028715607">London</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/german-court-bans-uber-services-via-rental-cars-in-germany-2019-12">Germany</a>, while complaints about the hazards of electric scooters that were quickly dropped in cities by startups like Bird and Lime have led some local governments to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/san-francisco-ban-shared-dockless-scooters-2018-5">cap</a> the number allowed in their jurisdictions.Both cases have shown that the "move fast and break things" ethos embraced by Silicon Valley startups can invite unintended consequences that pose moral and logistical challenges."The investment in going into a city is tremendous," said John Rich, the COO of Ford Autonomous Vehicles LLC. "We can't have an adversarial relationship. We have to be solving their problems. We have to be invited in."No automaker at CES split the difference between idealism and realism more than <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/toyota">Toyota</a>, which put at the center of its display a smart-city prototype it will build in Japan. Called the Woven City, the prototype will serve as a testing ground for a number of technologies, including self-driving cars, robots, and smart homes, creating an opportunity to see how they work together. While renderings of the Woven City have a science-fiction sheen to them, the project will focus as much on urban design and renewable energy as it does on high-tech gadgets."Peope have to be at the center of anything that Toyota does," said James Kuffner, the chief technology officer of the Toyota Research Institute. Byton has now received 60 000 reservations for his first model.<h2>Even the CEO of an EV startup was rooted in reality</h2>The toned-down rhetoric was not just confined to established automakers who have been slow to translate the innovations popularized by cell phones to their vehicles. Daniel Kirchert, CEO of the electric-vehicle startup <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/byton">Byton</a>, whose debut vehicle, the M-Byte SUV, will have the auto industry's largest <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/byton-exec-explains-why-48-inch-screen-wont-distract-drivers-2019-2">dashboard screen</a>, said the company does not want to reinvent every part of the automotive business. Instead, it will focus on innovating in areas where it believes it has an edge."We should not believe that we can do too many things," Kirchert said. "We need to stay very focused."In an apparent reference to Tesla, which struggled mightily when it tried to automate much of its vehicle-assembly process in 2017, Kirchert said Byton would not follow a similar path, instead attempting to implement the auto industry's best practices for manufacturing.Ultimately, a shift away from speculation and toward implementation could bode well for the auto industry's seemingly inevitable transition to electric and self-driving vehicles.
