<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="14489098" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="brad-keselowski" source="Orion">Brad Keselowski</keyword> and <keyword id="14489099" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="austin-dillon" source="Orion">Austin Dillon</keyword> had a weird incident during this weekend's <keyword id="11908910" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="new-hampshire" source="Orion">New Hampshire</keyword> race.</li><li>The two slammed into each other during a caution, wrecking Keselowski's car.</li></ul><p>As they say in <keyword id="12137401" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="nascar" source="Orion">NASCAR</keyword>, "Rubbin' is racing," but Brad Keselowski and Austin Dillon took things a little too far during this weekend's New Hampshire race. </p><p>After Kyle Busch spun and brought out a caution flag, Dillon was clearly upset, moved up the track, and intentionally bumped into Keselowski. The former NASCAR champion then retaliated by slamming back into Dillon hard enough to knock him off the track.</p><p>While it is normal for tempers to flare during a NASCAR race, this one was unusual for a couple of reasons: 1) It happened during a caution; 2) Nobody is quite sure why it happened at all, and it may have been over a misunderstanding.</p><p>You can see the entire incident at the 30-second mark in this video:</p><iframe src="https://streamable.com/e/x5vsb3" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="100%" style="width:100%;height:100%;position:absolute;left:0px;top:0px;overflow:hidden;"></iframe><p>While Dillon suffered some body damage, Keselowski took the worst of it, suffering a flat right-front tire. </p><p>The USA broadcast team was unable to determine what led to the incident, and when they checked in with the crew chiefs for both drivers, neither knew why it started. Keselowski's crew chief initially thought it might have just been a case of mistaken identity.</p><p>"No idea [what precipitated that]," Matt McCall said. "We think that [Dillon] thinks we hit him, but we didn't hit him."</p><p>What was clear is that whatever sent Dillon over the top had been brewing for a while, something he made clear after the race. </p><p>"We've gone at it a couple of times the last two years," Dillon said. "One time, I hit really hard. I just don't like the way certain people race me. Probably not the right way to do it under a caution."</p><p>The "really hard" incident that Dillon is referring to was a wreck during last year's Michigan race, when Keselowski got into the side of Dillon, causing him to spin and slam head-first into the wall. </p><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/UXNnrQOE2eI" frameborder="0"></iframe><p>After this week's race, Keselowski didn't want to comment on the incident, saying he would talk to Dillon in private.</p><p>When Dillon was asked if he would talk to Keselowski, he replied, "Nah, I don't talk to him." </p>

2 NASCAR stars got into a bizarre road-rage incident during New Hampshire race

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The NASCAR season is still two weeks away, but drivers are already feuding.</li><li>The preseason Clash at the Coliseum once again looked more like bumper cars than a race.</li></ul><p>The NASCAR season is still two weeks away, but if the preseason exhibition race is any indication, there will be no shortage of fireworks on and off the track when it starts. </p><p>On Sunday, NASCAR held its annual preseason race, The Clash at the Coliseum, for the second time at the LA Coliseum. While the exhibition is often entertaining, it can also look more like bumper cars than an actual race, and that has tempers flaring already.</p><p>Two-time champion Kyle Busch, competing in his first race with Richard Childress Racing, was among those unhappy afterwards. Busch noted that this year's race differed significantly from the inaugural clash in 2022 that was highly praised.</p><p>"Last year's show, I felt like, was relatively clean and good racing, some bumping, some banging, but we could run long stretches of green flag action," Busch said after the race. "Today was, I would call it, a disaster with the disrespect from everybody of just driving through each other and not just letting everything kind of work its way out."</p><p>Last year, the drivers were racing in the new NextGen cars for the first time, and it was the first time any of the drivers had driven a Cup Series race on a quarter-mile track, half the size of the next-smallest tracks used in NASCAR.</p><div type="image" title="The Clash at the Coliseum." height="1667" width="2500" msid="97665121" hostid="261" sizebytes="472816"></div><p>This year, the drivers knew what to expect on such a small track where the only way to pass a car was often just to hit them and hope it pushed them out of the way, and if that caused somebody to spin ... oh well. </p><p>That's what happened to Busch when he got spun by defending champion Joey Logano, and Busch made it clear that he will remember it down the road. </p><p>"Logano didn't get hit by nobody," Busch said, when asked about the chain reactions that were common. "He just flat-out drove through me, so he's got another one coming. He led 40 laps during the race but finished 22nd after getting spun late by Busch's teammate, Austin Dillon.</p><p>"The 3 [Austin Dillon] just never tried to make a corner," <a href="https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nascar/martin-truex-jr-back-in-win-column-in-caution-filled-clash" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wallace told Bob Pockrass</a>. "He just always ran into my left rear. ... I got run into the fence by him down the straightaway on the restart, so I gave him a shot, and then we get dumped. Didn't mean to turn him like that, but when it gets down to the end, I think everybody knows what's going on, and that's what you see at places like this."</p><p>Part of the frustration from the drivers could be from the toll all the collisions took on their bodies. Despite the slow speeds on the tight track and safety adjustments made by NASCAR in year two of the NextGen cars, Wallace noted that he was in a lot of pain after the race.</p><p>"Back still hurts," <a href="https://twitter.com/bobpockrass/status/1622450677111996418" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wallace said</a>. NASCAR tempers are already flaring before the season thanks to the bumper-cars-like exhibition

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Christopher Bell won a dramatic race at the Charlotte Roval to advance to the Round of 8 in NASCAR's playoffs.</li><li>Stewart-Haas' Chase Briscoe used a daring late pass to avoid elimination and advance on points.</li></ul><p>Chase Briscoe of Stewart-HAAS Racing pulled off a dramatic move to avoid elimination from the playoffs and knock out defending champion Kyle Larson. Now, NASCAR wants to know if he got a little too much help from a teammate.</p><p>After the race, NASCAR announced that it is investigating a last-lap move by Cole Custer that allowed Briscoe to pick up enough points to advance and whether the team told Custer to interfere.</p><p>"NASCAR is reviewing data, video and radio transmissions from the 41 car following its incident on the backstretch during the final lap," NASCAR said. "NASCAR will communicate the results of the review early this week. Any potential penalties would not affect the Round of 8 field."</p><p>The last sentence is important, as it suggests that regardless of the findings, Briscoe will remain in the playoffs and Larson will not.</p><h2>Dramatic final laps shuffled the playoff field</h2><p>Christopher Bell came from behind to win the dramatic race at the Charlotte Roval, where the final laps saw several lead changes and a constant reshuffling of which eight drivers would advance to the next round.</p><p>Winning the race was Bell's only shot at advancing in the playoffs. Doing so effectively meant that four drivers — Larson, Briscoe, Daniel Suarez, and Austin Cindric — were battling for the final spot, with Larson leading that group with three laps to go.</p><p>With two laps to go, Briscoe spun and fell to the back of that group, seemingly out of the playoffs. However, the racing gods intervened, and a red flag stopped the race to repair a broken curb. This allowed Briscoe to pit for fresh tires before starting the three-lap overtime.</p><p>Briscoe still needed to make up 19 spots in three laps to catch Larson. Several collisions and spins — including one by Cindric, which knocked him out of contention — helped Briscoe make up most of those spots. </p><div type="image" title="Austin Cindric" height="348" width="623" msid="94769756" hostid="261" sizebytes="10322"></div><p>However, it was the final pass just before the checkered flag that clinched Briscoe's advancement and Larson's elimination and raised the eyebrows of NASCAR officials.</p><p>As Briscoe (14) approached the final chicane, he was tied with Larson and holding the tiebreaker. One more pass would seal the deal. NASCAR investigating driver for late-race shenanigans that helped knock the defending champ out of the playoffs

"And you're seeing actors of all walks of life be able to actually play these roles now."</p><h2>Porter finds comfort and connection in Pokémon GO</h2><div type="image" title="Scott Porter" height="1127" width="1503" msid="98554058" hostid="261" sizebytes="126516"></div><p>After starring in "Friday Night Lights," Porter went on to join the cast of another comfort show with a cult following, "Hart Of Dixie." He currently plays Mayor Paul Randolph on another show that's easy to escape into for hours, <a href="https://www.insider.com/ginny-and-georgia-creator-talks-taylor-swift-and-messy-female-characters-2023-1">"Ginny &amp; Georgia" on Netflix</a>. </p><p>"Comfort television is different for everyone. Some people like to see their life or something that mirrors their life on TV as a sense of comfort. Some people like to watch a show that they can escape into for comfort," he said, reflecting on the meaning of the term "comfort TV." </p><p>He noted that even action and thriller shows could provide a sense of comfort, as long as "community is at the core" of the show.</p><p>Though he spoons out comfort for fans through his acting, Porter finds that sense of community for himself through an unlikely medium — <a href="https://pokemongolive.com/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">playing Pokémon GO</a> with family, friends, and even strangers. Pokemon Go is the mobile interactive version of the original Pokémon game released in the late '90s. "Pokemon Go is about community and getting out and exploring the world, and there's nothing better than doing that with people that you know and love." </p><p>He and his dad recently attended a Pokémon GO live event together in Las Vegas. Porter compared the bonding experience to "hearing the first strums" of your favorite song at a concert. </p><p>"It makes you feel safe," he said.</p>

'Friday Night Lights' star Scott Porter has 'zero regrets' about playing wheelchair user Jason Street: 'Everything that we did was done meticulously'

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Kyle Busch is moving to Richard Childress Racing in 2023, after 15 years with Joe Gibbs Racing.</li><li>Busch will no longer drive his signature No. 18 M&amp;M's car and will drive the No. 8 instead.</li></ul><p>The biggest domino in NASCAR's silly season fell when Kyle Busch announced that he would join Richard Childress Racing in 2023.</p><p>Busch was in the final year of his contract with Joe Gibbs Racing, where he has spent the last 15 years driving his signature No. 18 M&amp;M's car. Busch and JGR had been trying to negotiate an extension all season after M&amp;M's announced their departure from the sport. However, in recent weeks, it started to feel like the two sides were too far apart and were headed for a breakup.</p><p>"This is probably one of the biggest days of my life and my career," Busch said at a press conference on Tuesday to make the announcement. </p><p>The new contract is a multi-year deal that will keep Busch racing until at least the age of 39.</p><h2>The move avoided drama over the No. 3</h2><p>As rumors started to fly that Busch would be moving to RCR, <a href="https://www.sportscasting.com/dale-earnhardt-jr-sends-twitter-frenzy-hints-kyle-buschs-future/">fueled in large part by Dale Earnhardt Jr.</a>, fans began to wonder if Busch would take over Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s iconic No. 3, which is currently driven by Childress' grandson, Austin Dillon. </p><p>Before Busch's new number was announced, <a href="https://racingnews.co/2022/09/12/dale-earnhardt-jr-comments-on-kyle-busch-driving-the-no-3/">Dale Jr. commented on a Reddit thread</a> speculating on whether Dale Jr. would have approved Busch taking over the car and possibly diluting the history of the number. Dale Jr. said it would be fine, but only if they first retire <em>part</em> of the number.</p><p>"I wish they could retire the current stylized font, then make an entirely new font/design," Earnhardt Jr. "Then by all means ... He won nine times in 2021 and added another eight checkered flags in the first quarter of 2022. 2-time NASCAR champ Kyle Busch is switching teams, but he won't be driving Dale Earnhardt's iconic No. 3 car

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Michael Jordan has a car in the NASCAR playoffs for the first time as Kurt Busch clinched the 15th of 16 spots.</li><li>The final spot will come down to Ryan Blaney, Martin Truex Jr, or somebody picking up their first win of the season.</li></ul><p>With just one race to go in the regular season, the NASCAR playoff picture got much clearer, as Kurt Busch clinched the penultimate spot without even racing.</p><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/nascar-watkins-glen-race-results-kyle-larson-chase-elliott-2022-8">Kyle Larson shoved teammate Chase Elliott out of the way for the win on Sunday at Watkins Glen</a>. More importantly for the playoffs, since Larson was not a first-time winner, there can't be more than 16 winners during the regular season, and now the 15 drivers who have won at least one race are locked into the playoffs.</p><p>That includes Busch, who has missed the last five races with a concussion and was the final driver with a win who was still not guaranteed a playoff spot. </p><p>The playoff berth is also the first for second-year team 23XI Racing, co-owned by NBA legend Michael Jordan and NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin. Fellow second-year team, Trackhouse Racing, co-owned by Pitbull and former racer Justin Marks, has both its drivers — Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez — in the playoffs this season.</p><div type="image" title="Daniel Suarez" height="1033" width="1496" msid="93717007" hostid="261" sizebytes="176182"></div><h2>15 drivers and 2 scenarios for final playoff spot</h2><p>The final playoff spot will now come down to the regular-season finale in Daytona. There are two scenarios, and both guarantee that at least one top driver will get screwed:</p><ul><li><strong>Ryan Blaney vs. Martin Truex Jr on points</strong> — If Daytona is won by a driver already in the playoffs, the final spot will come down to the points standings. Ryan Blaney, third in points this season, is the highest-ranked driver without a win or a playoff spot, and Truex, sixth in the standings and 25 points behind Blaney, is the only driver who can catch him. </li><li><strong>A winless driver wins Daytona</strong> — If a first-time winner wins the Daytona race and is in the top 30 in the points standings, they get the final playoff spot. Blaney and Truex are two of the 15 drivers who can still get in by this route. </li></ul><p>Points are overly complicated in NASCAR, but the clearest path for Truex without winning the race would be to finish at least 26 places ahead of Blaney in Daytona. That challenge becomes easier if Truex can pick up more points than Blaney during the race by finishing the first or second stage in the top 10 and ahead of Blaney.</p><p>Jordan and 23XI Racing could still get a second car into the playoffs <a href="https://www.insider.com/nascar-schedule-playoffs-bubba-wallace-2022-7">if Bubba Wallace can win this week at his favorite track</a> (Wallace has three runner-up finishes at Daytona and his only win came on another superspeedway at Talladega).</p><p>Another notable driver who could still knock out Blaney and Truex is the former champ, Brad Keselowski, who has won at Daytona. As Wallace and Hamlin discussed the potential partnership, Hamlin surprised Wallace by handing the phone to Jordan.</p><p>Jordan's message to Wallace was blunt. </p><p>"Denny calls me and says, 'What are you doing?'," Wallace said. "'I said, 'Just sitting here on the couch.' He said, 'Here's somebody who wants to talk to you.' [in a deeper voice] 'Hey, man. If we do this deal, there is no more running in the back.' And I was like, 'Oh, that's MJ! Oh, hey, man. How are you doing?!'"</p><iframe src="https://streamable.com/e/484kcu" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="100%" style="width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute;"></iframe><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/bubba-wallace-changing-nascar-new-star-2020-8">Wallace became one of the faces of NASCAR and maybe their biggest star</a> during the 2020 season as he became more vocal about social justice issues following the killing of George Floyd. <a href="https://www.insider.com/bubba-wallace-confederate-flag-ban-new-fans-racism-2020-7">His stance on the confederate battle flag</a> led to NASCAR banning the symbol at their races for the first time.</p><p>While Wallace is undoubtedly a star, one thing that has eluded him so far is winning. In three seasons as a full-time NASCAR driver, Wallace has nine top-10s and three top-5 finishes, but he has never taken the checkered flag.</p><p>That could change at Daytona, one of Wallace's strongest tracks. He finished second at the 500 during his rookie season in 2018. Then, during this week's duel race to set the 500's starting lineup, Austin Dillon just edged out Wallace during a thrilling final lap. </p><iframe src="https://streamable.com/e/ajaxj8" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="100%" style="width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute;"></iframe><p>Jordan and Hamlin's new partnership will certainly have some growing pains, but the pressure is on Wallace. Finishing well behind the pack won't be accepted, and that starts at Daytona. </p>

Michael Jordan's first conversation with Bubba Wallace shows he is just as competitive as ever, even as a rookie NASCAR owner

Erik Jones, who was in second place at the time, ran out of gas, leaving Busch with an 8-second lead over Daniel Suarez, a huge lead in a car racing. None of these drivers would cross the finish line first.</p><p>At this point, Busch's pit crew informs him that he needs to conserve gas. saying over the radio, "save all you can, all you can."</p><p><iframe width="800" height="450" frameborder="0" src="https://streamable.com/e/x5t4?muted=1&amp;autoplay=1&amp;hd=1"></iframe></p><p>With two laps to go, Busch still has the lead, but it is shrinking. Suarez is now less than five seconds back and Dillon has moved into third place, but is still a whopping 13 seconds behind the leader.</p><p>Busch (No. 18) has clearly fallen off the pace as lapped cars are now passing him with ease as he tries to save gas.</p><p><iframe width="800" height="450" frameborder="0" src="https://streamable.com/e/efqn?muted=1&amp;autoplay=1&amp;hd=1"></iframe></p><p>As they pass the white flag for the final lap and go into Turn 1, that's when things get crazy.</p><p>Busch blows a tire and Suarez (No. 19) flies right by him like he is standing still.</p><p><iframe width="800" height="450" frameborder="0" src="https://streamable.com/e/mwqu?muted=1&amp;autoplay=1&amp;hd=1"></iframe></p><p>While it may seem like Suarez is going to cruise to his first win, he starts to run out of gas. Suarez goes down to the apron trying to get to the finish line on an empty tank. He goes high on the track to pass as they enter the final turn. Busch tries desperately to block. Dillon nearly spins, but is able to keep it together.</p><p>Dillon gets by and sprints to the finish line for the win. Crazy finish in NASCAR Xfinity race includes a flat tire, empty gas tanks, and a late surge on final lap

<p>The Coke Zero 400 race at Daytona International Speedway ended in a horrifying car crash Sunday night.</p><p>As drivers crossed the finish line, led by Dale Earnhardt Jr., a massive crash took place. NASCAR driver's car flips upside down, smashes into fence in terrifying race-ending wreck

He now has nine stores in and around Dublin.</li><li>Nolan cuts the hair for many athletes including Artem Lobov, Dillon Danis, and Matt Miazga. But McGregor is his most famous client and one of his favorites, he told Business Insider.</li><li>He gets calls from McGregor at all times of the day and night as the welterweight seeks a trim before a fight, a big event, or a movie premiere.</li><li>McGregor has been embroiled in many controversies in recent years, but Nolan said he remains a "normal bloke" and a "genuinely nice guy."</li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/?hprecirc-bullet">Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories</a>.</li></ul><p>To get Conor McGregor's distinctive look, you need an expensive gold watch, a large tattoo on your chest which shows a crown-wearing gorilla munching on a heart, and the fresh "hard top" haircut.</p><p>That haircut was tweaked by Craig Nolan, owner of the Old County barber shops in Dublin.</p><p>As the man who has been styling McGregor's mane for years, he says he gets phone calls from McGregor at all times of the day and night to trim the famous Dubliner's hair in one of his many stores, or even at <a href="https://www.irishpost.com/life-style/conor-mcgregor-move-kildare-purchase-e2-million-mansion-169029">McGregor's $2.2 million mansion</a> in Castledillon, Kildare, near Ireland's famous K Club golf course.</p><p>Nolan's version of the hard top and his association with McGregor helped see his Old County business flourish, with plenty of  boys walking through the doors of his stores all wanting to look like the UFC fighter.</p><p>It is a far cry from 2015, when he left a good shop in Dublin to take the keys to a dishevelled unit in Crumlin, with approximately $500 to his name.</p><p>"I tried to make it stretch," he told Business Insider. "I went to the pound shops, [do it yourself] stores, found wallpaper in the cheapest section, and used Gumtree to find a microwave for $40. I tried to spend what little money I had, and if it didn't work … I was f-----."</p><p>On his first Saturday of trading in McGregor's hometown of Crumlin, there was only $25 in the cash register. "I was like, 'Oh my God, what the f--- am I doing.' I thought I'd made a big mistake."</p><p>He says he worked 12-hour shifts through six days of the week, and "worked my bollocks down."</p><p>After a year, things began changing and people were noticing his craft, he said. One of those people became a regular - Lee Dunphy, the managing director at The MacLife, a McGregor-owned MMA website.</p><p>A childhood friend of McGregor's, Dunphy recommended McGregor see Nolan for a trim. Now, whenever McGregor has a big fight, a suit-and-tie event, or a movie premiere, he gives Nolan a call.</p><h2>What McGregor is like, according to Nolan</h2><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5e207d3724306a7d74522946-1200/conor mcgregor craig nolan.png" alt="conor mcgregor craig nolan" /><p>Nolan styles the hair for the bareknuckle brawler Artem Lobov, Bellator fighter Dillon Danis, and the American soccer player Matt Miazga.</p><p>But on what his most famous client, McGregor, is like, he said he's "still a normal bloke."</p><p>Since losing a 10th round stoppage in a boxing bout to Floyd Mayweather in 2017, McGregor has attracted negative headlines - for <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/conor-mcgregor-charged-with-three-counts-of-assault-2018-4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">throwing a metal trolley at a bus</a> injuring people on board, for <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/conor-mcgregor-reaction-after-phone-arrest-in-miami-2019-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">slapping a phone out of a fan's hand and then stopping on it and walking away</a>, and for <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/video-conor-mcgregor-punch-whiskey-proper-twelve-2019-8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">throwing a punch at an older man in a pub because he apparently refused a measure of his Proper no. Twelve</a> whiskey.</p><p>He's one of my favourite customers and a genuinely nice guy.</p><p>The New York Times then reported in March 2019 that McGregor was <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/26/sports/conor-mcgregor-sexual-assault.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">being investigated by the Gardai</a> - the Irish police - regarding a sexual assault.</p><blockquote class="pullquote">He's one of my favourite customers and a genuinely nice guy.</blockquote><p>The UFC president Dana White said in August that McGregor had told him it was <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/dana-white-conor-mcgregor-sexual-assault-was-somebody-else-2019-8?r=US&amp;IR=T" target="_blank" rel="noopener">"someone else."</a></p><p>Later in the year, the Times reported <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/19/sports/conor-mcgregor-sexual-assault-accusation.html?smtyp=cur&amp;smid=tw-nytimes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a second sexual assault allegation</a>. A spokesperson for the former two-weight UFC champion <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/conor-mcgregor-denies-second-sexual-assault-allegation-2019-10?r=US&amp;IR=T" target="_blank" rel="noopener">denied the claim</a>.</p><p>Those close to him, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-its-like-training-with-conor-mcgregor-2019-10?r=US&amp;IR=T" target="_blank" rel="noopener">his MMA coach John Kavanagh</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-conor-mcgregor-is-really-like-according-to-business-partner-2019-4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">his Proper no. Twelve business partner Ken Austin</a>, tell a different story of McGregor, one that Nolan seemed to back up.</p><p>"We chat anything and everything," Nolan said. "When you're with him he's normal. He's still very much grounded. We have a laugh. He's one of my favourite customers and a genuinely nice guy."</p><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5e207fc9b6d52d028f39f622-1200/mcgregor nolan.png" alt="mcgregor nolan" /><p>After a training session at the Straight Blast Gym in 2017, McGregor called Nolan. He told him his documentary movie, "Notorious," was premiering that night, and asked if Nolan was free to swing by his house so he could get his hair cut and styled before the red carpet event.</p><p>"I was cutting his hair for the release of the "Notorious" film and we were in his house, these cars came, and in this kitchen they rolled out shoebox after shoebox of brand new shoes. There must have been 40 or 50 different pairs from stores in Dublin.</p><p>"We were laughing away after the haircut, having a yap in the kitchen. And he asked me if I liked them. And I said, 'They're really nice.' And he said, 'Pick one.' So I picked a pair, and he turned around saying, 'No, no … any but them, I'm wear them tonight at the premiere!'"</p><p>In the end, Nolan said McGregor let him take whatever he wanted. "He's a sound bloke."</p><h2>McGregor's popularity helped Nolan grow his barbershop business</h2><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5e207fed24306a02265c3245-1200/mcgregor laughing nolan.png" alt="mcgregor laughing nolan" /><p>Nolan told us he "may as well have a degree in doing the hard top" because of all the foot traffic caused by McGregor popularizing the haircut when he was at the peak of his powers in the buildup to UFC 205, when he dominated Eddie Alvarez in New York in 2016.</p><p>Nolan said McGregor's successes in sport, together with his undeniable charisma, led many young boys to walk through his nine barbershops to ask to get their hair done like McGregor. Nolan estimates 90% of people at the time wanted the hard top. "Conor really did kick it off," he said. "He had a major part in young Dublin lads wanting that haircut."</p><p>Though he says he tweaked it from its original style more than a century ago, he is loathe to take any credit for the haircut as he wouldn't want to be thought of as "pretentious" but does say he "pushed it along."</p><p>Nolan said: "I don't know if I started it. Even 100 years back, people would have a variation on it and in 40 years time it will come back in a small variation."</p><p>On the essential features of the hard top, he went on: "It's a shaved part with nice, strong, square contours. I use a guardless fade process on Conor to get that clean, crisp look, which he loves. We called several of its restaurants across the US who confirmed that it uses beef tallow, which is made from rendered animal fat, in some of its restaurants.</p><p>Captain D's did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment. </p><p>"We cook fish in a beef based oil," a server from one of its Virgina Beach restaurants told Business Insider. "All Captain D's do, that's what we order from our distributor," he said. </p><p>Other Captain D's locations that we called in Texas and Memphis, however, said soybean oil is commonly used.</p><p><a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2002/03/09/us/mcdonald-s-to-settle-suits-on-beef-tallow-in-french-fries.html">McDonald's was sued in the 90's</a> for using meat tallow to cook its fries. The lawsuit cost the chain $10 million; it now cooks with vegetable oil.</p><p>While the Catholic church does not consider beef oil to be the same as eating meat, it is still a concern for people practicing Lent. </p><p><span>David Wood, director of worship at the archdiocese in Austin, said people should steer clear of these products. "My impression is that the church doesn't get that specific but I think generally the answer should be that they probably shouldn't be eating it," he told Business Insider.</span><span></span></p><p><span>According to <a href="http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/liturgical-year/lent/questions-and-answers-about-lent.cfm">The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops'</a> website: "a</span><span>bstinence does not include meat juices and liquid foods made from meat.
