In an interaction with PTI, Mercedes-Benz India MD and CEO Santosh Iyer said the luxury car segment is set for its best-ever performance this year with <keyword id="19894908" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Festive-season" source="keywords">festive season</keyword> offtakes playing a major role in the overall performance. <br /><br /> He noted that the festive season generally gives high double-digit <keyword id="20040491" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sales-growth" source="keywords">sales growth</keyword>, helping the automaker to average out single-digit growth of the earlier quarter. <br /><br /> "So in that sense, on an average, then we are able to get a double-digit growth during the festive season," Iyer stated. <br /><br /> Elaborating on the overall industry, which still remains a very small part of the overall passenger vehicle market in the country, he said the segment is headed for record volumes this fiscal year but not all players are witnessing growth." Some (companies) are even degrowing, some are flat and they are facing headwinds, but because we are the primary player in the market, we still feel the luxury car market should cross 50,000-51,000 cars this year," Iyer said. <br /><br /> The luxury car market in India currently remains very small accounting for less than 2 % of the overall passenger vehicle market in the country. <br /><br /> Audi India Head Balbir Singh Dhillon said the automaker anticipates positive buying trends to continue during the festive season. "Our best-selling models - the A4, A6, Q3, Q3 Sportback, Q5, Q7, and the newly launched Q8 - continue to drive robust demand," he added. <br /><br /> The company is equally optimistic about the e-tron range, the e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT, Dhillon said. BMW Group India President Vikram Pawah said the fundamentals of the Indian economy are sturdy and consumer confidence in the luxury segment is on the rise. <br /><br /> "For BMW Group India, the order bank is solid and we are trying our best to speed up deliveries for our customers. Along with additional bookings around Diwali and Dussehra, we are confident of closing the year on a high note while clocking impressive growth," he stated. <br /><br /> He noted that the group is witnessing very strong demand for products across all segments. <br /><br /> Pawah said that in the run-up to the festive season, the company has introduced several special editions of its existing model range. The festive season usually commences with Onam and ends with Diwali every year.

Luxury carmakers Mercedes, Audi, BMW expect robust sales this festive season

Ingolstadt, Luxury automaker <keyword id="19911529" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="audi" source="keywords">Audi</keyword> India is looking to commence local assembly of electric vehicles, a move which would help it roll out models at an affordable price helping expand its customer base in the country. The automaker currently imports its entire EV range comprising Q8 50 e-tron, Q8 55 e-tron, Q8 <keyword id="21011482" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sportback" source="keywords">Sportback</keyword> 50 e-tron, Q8 Sportback 55 e-tron, e-tron GT, and RS e-tron GT, into the country. <br /><br /> It, however, assembles petrol models like Q3, Q3 Sportback, Q5, Q7, A4, and A6 at its Aurangabad (Maharashtra) based manufacturing plant. <br /><br /> In an interaction with PTI here, Audi India Head Balbir <keyword id="20078416" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="singh-dhillon" source="keywords">Singh Dhillon</keyword> said the local manufacturing of EVs is a work in progress with active discussions going on with its global headquarters. <br /><br /> "We are working with Audi AG very positively and hopefully at some point in time we will be able to announce this (local assembly of EV models)," he noted. <br /><br /> When asked about the expected timeline of commencing the process, Dhillon did not share any specific date but stated that the India unit is discussing the matter with the global headquarters very "positively". <br /><br /> "Hopefully we should have some solution at some point in time. That is the time when you can reach even more (set of customers) because then you will get the best advantage in terms of price point," he said. <br /><br /> He further said, "I think the next 2-3 years will be very crucial (2024-2026). These years will see many more new electric cars coming at different price points. Then I think our reach to our existing customers or first-time buyers will go up." <br /><br /> The company's current EV model lineup is priced over Rs 1 crore thus serving a very niche set of customers. <br /><br /> Currently, cars imported into India as Completely Built Units (CBUs) attract customs duty ranging from 60 per cent to 100 per cent. <br /><br /> The country's customs duty system treats electric cars and hydrocarbon-powered vehicles equally, imposing significant tariffs to encourage domestic manufacturing. <br /><br /> Audi, globally, is looking to introduce multiple electric models in the next 2-3 years many of which would also come to India thus helping the Indian operations to choose which ones to localise. <br /><br /> In order to rev up sales volume, Audi India would look out for models which sit below the current range in price terms. <br /><br /> The company currently gets around 2 per cent of its total sales from EVs. <br /><br /> It reported 89 per cent growth in retail sales in India at 7,931 units last year as compared with a total of 4,187 units in 2022. <br /><br /> Audi on Monday evening globally premiered the Q6 e-tron, a new EV model which would sit below the Q8 e-tron range. <br /><br /> To be manufactured at the company's Ingolstadt plant, the model is expected to roll out in various markets globally this year. <br /><br /> It is also expected to make its way to Indian shores early next year. <br /><br /> Dhillon said the model would help in widening the company's customer base in India. <br /><br /> "That's the expectation that our penetration in electric mobility should go up with this model (Q6 e-tron)," he noted. <br /><br /> Audi expects 50 per cent of its sales in India to come from electric vehicles by 2030. <br /><br /> Globally, Audi has decided to become a fully electric vehicle manufacturer from 2033 onwards. <br /><br /> The Q6 e-tron is the first production model on the company's <keyword id="21011483" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="premium-platform-electric" source="keywords">Premium Platform Electric</keyword> (<keyword id="19989989" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ppe" source="keywords">PPE</keyword>), marking the next step in the company's transformation into a provider of premium electric mobility. <br /><br /> The electric SUV will be available to order from this month with deliveries expected to customers in the third quarter of 2024. <br /><br /> The Q6 e-tron comes with a range of up to 625 kms. <br /><br /> "The PPE shows how we are pooling expertise within the <keyword id="20139313" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="volkswagen-group" source="keywords">Volkswagen Group</keyword> and thus making electric mobility scalable," Audi AG Chairman of the Board of Management Gernot Dollner said. <br /><br /> Thanks to the PPE, the company is able to launch high-volume models with high technical standards in different segments, he added.

Audi India reports over two-fold jump in sales in January-March quarter

I scream while pulling on a pair of thick, wool socks. "We're doing it for the blogs! We live and die by the blogs!"</p><p>It's just past 11 p.m., but instead of tucking into a bed with a nice feather mattress and a down comforter, we are suiting up. We all know SUVs are big and roomy, so spending the night in one proves exactly nothing. Roominess is their whole selling point. Sleeping in one would be like saying I slept in a house. Anyone and their mother could do it. Big deal.<p>But this wagon? This wrongfully unloved and underappreciated body style? Hell yeah I'll sleep in that! </p><h2><strong>11:19 p.m.</strong></h2><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_101" height="1667" width="2500" msid="81112737" hostid="261"></div>When opting to sleep in a car for fun - or blogs - in the middle of <keyword id="46788" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Winter">winter</keyword>, the first and most important thing to do is position it right up against the front door of the house. This decision is rooted purely in practical reasons. You can have that bit of advice for free.<p>First, it's snowing. You want to be as close to the indoor bathroom as possible. Second, if you park close enough to the house, you can still pick up the WiFi. And third, <a href="https://vtfishandwildlife.com/learn-more/vermont-critters/mammals/black-bear#:~:text=The%20black%20bear%20(Ursus%20americanus,are%20seldom%20seen%20by%20people.">if a bear</a> comes in the night, there's a fast and easy escape route. But I'm not an animal and I do expect some kind of cushioning whenever I rest my fancy hide, so my lovely boyfriend drags a small foam mattress from a daybed out into the car. With the snow is settled so thickly on the glass, this hardly makes a difference.</p><h2><strong>12:00 a.m.</strong></h2><p>It's Friday night, I'm about to do something either very brilliant or very dumb (or both), and I need to psyche myself up for it.</p><p>First, I go and play several rounds of ping pong with my boyfriend. I lose spectacularly.</p><h2><strong>12:45 a.m.</strong></h2><p>I sit in front of the fire with a whiskey and pray the heat soaks into my bones. I contemplate quitting while I'm ahead but my mother's words growing up echo in my mind: "Quitting is for losers, children, and smokers." (She didn't actually say this.) </p><p>Regardless, momma didn't raise no quitter. </p><h2><strong>1:20 a.m.</strong></h2><p>I'm procrastinating and I'm <em>so</em> aware of it. The other inhabitants of the house have long since retired to their (warm, indoor) beds. I debate pouring myself another whiskey.</p><h2><strong>1:35 a.m.</strong></h2><p>I hem-haw through brushing my teeth and pulling on my winter coat at the same time.</p><h2><strong>1:45 a.m.</strong></h2><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_113" height="1667" width="2500" msid="81112758" hostid="261"></div>With so much padding and blankets, the space inside the RS 6 Avant has decreased significantly. We open the rear doors, sit on the folded-down seats, and remove our snow boots before swinging into the car.<p>If you're familiar with my writing, you'll know that I'm obsessed with a car's interior packaging. I love <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/2021-toyota-rav4-prime-best-interior-feature-rubber-lined-cubby-2020-10">dedicated nooks</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/audi-r8-supercar-sports-best-feature-key-holder-center-console-2020-12">crannies for your stuff</a>. My face mask is looped around the rear coat hook. I can hang my glasses in the seat-back pocket. There are so many dedicated places for stuff and things!</p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_115" height="1667" width="2500" msid="81112766" hostid="261"></div>Consider this my official letter of praise to Audi AG: You might not have set out to do this, but you can design a damn fine bedroom.<p>With all my items settled, it's much easier for me to focus on getting comfortable. And it's pretty cold inside the car. The thermometer reads 20 degrees Fahrenheit. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_153" height="1875" width="2500" msid="81112772" hostid="261"></div>I'm not worried, though. I took the time to read <a href="https://www.outsideonline.com/2152131/freezing-death">"Frozen Alive" by Peter Stark on Outside</a>, a chilling (holla!) tale of what it's like to freeze to death. I know the signs. I know what not to do. We will not freeze.<p>Once we're snuggled under the mountain of layers, it immediately begins to feel warmer.</p><p>And it's so quiet.</p><p>There's a lot of noise pollution where I live in New York City - sirens, traffic, hoarse screams. These are all part of the wall of white noise you experience when living in a city. I don't complain, of course. I knew this was part of the deal.</p><p>But the sudden absence of all that noise is, in a way, even noisier than the noise itself. I've heard people say they have trouble falling asleep in the country because it's "too quiet." The quietness isn't unsettling to me, nor is the stillness. </p><p>I'm wrapped up in a billion blankets, the snow falling silently on the car, and there's nothing but the sound of my own heartbeat in my ears. Not even the bears or the coyotes are stirring.</p><h2><strong>4 a.m. to 6 a.m. (?)</strong></h2><p>You know how old-timey people are always depicted in pajamas with nightcaps? I never understood that until now. Everything is super warm and cozy except the top of my head! The top of my head is cold, and so are the tips of my ears. Foiled!</p><p>And breathing in the cold, dry air has woken me up. I glance to my left. My boyfriend is fast asleep in his wool beanie with his COVID-19 mask securely over his face, the clever chicken. I burrow further beneath the blankets.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_124" height="3333" width="2500" msid="81112775" hostid="261"></div>An interesting thing happens where, after a while beneath the blankets, the warm air somehow feels too sticky to breathe and I have to "surface" in order to catch my breath. And after some time above the covers, the cold air scrapes at my windpipe and I duck beneath the blankets to repeat the process. It's a cycle from hell.<p>I should say here - and to reassure my parents, who will inevitably read this blog - that we are in no immediate danger. Our bodies are toasty-warm beneath the covers, and, indeed, I don't feel like I need to curl up to preserve heat. I am perfectly comfortable stretching out.</p><p>The only thing that's bothersome is the breathing issue, but I soon fashion myself a solution. By placing my face just under the blanket, rather than submerging my whole head, I discover a pocket of perfect-temperature air to breathe. </p><p>Finally satisfied, this Goldilocks returns to slumber and only awakens once at 7:15 a.m. to snooze a forgotten-about alarm.</p><h2><strong>10:09 a.m.</strong></h2><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_127" height="1334" width="2500" msid="81112779" hostid="261"></div>I can't ignore the morning sunlight streaming in any longer. It's diffused light, gold tinged with chilly blue, as the windows are completely curtained by snow. It's better privacy than I could ever have imagined.<p>My phone is frigid to the touch when I check the local weather. It's 14 degrees Fahrenheit. </p><p>"It's 14 degrees Fahrenheit!" I announce with the air of someone declaring that they've just won the lottery.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_150" height="2940" width="2500" msid="81112781" hostid="261"></div>My boyfriend stirs beside me. "Not bad!" he reports, blinking. He says he was fairly comfortable, save for the fact that he couldn't stretch out fully. I, too, like to remind others that I am tall.<p>But with his role in the activity now officially complete, he's smart and doesn't linger. He flips around to put his boots on. They take a couple of tugs to separate from the floor of the car, as they are frozen to the floor mats. You're not better than me.</p><p>If it were just me by myself, the back of the RS 6 Avant would be a very comfortable place indeed. The foam daybed mattress kept things padded and I obviously wasn't cold at all in the night. I had room to stretch out. And, of course, there would be no ice or freezing cold air to worry about.<h2><strong>10:38 a.m.</strong></h2><p>It's time to get out. </p><p>I push the door open and a dusting of snow immediately falls into the car, coating my arm like powdered sugar. Audi to hike vehicle prices by up to 1.7% in India from January 2023

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The 2021 RS 6 Avant I tested recently did cool light tricks when you locked or unlocked it.</li><li>Inside, it even had futuristic, Tron-like cabin illumination.</li><li>The best part was that the seat belt buckles lit up so you never had to find them by touch alone.</li></ul><p>There's always been something about Audis and <keyword id="437749" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="LEDs">LEDs</keyword>.</p><p><keyword id="6363321" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="audi">Audi</keyword> was among the first - if not <em>the</em> first - automakers to adopt light-emitting diode, or LED, daytime running lights. They <a href="https://www.audi-technology-portal.de/en/electrics-electronics/lighting-technology/led-daytime-running-lights#:~:text=The%20daytime%20running%20lights%20of,five%20LEDs%20in%20each%20headlight.">debuted in 2004</a> on the Audi A8 W12 sedan as five LEDs in each headlight. </p><p>The look quickly trickled through the rest of Audi's lineup after that. Soon, everything from the cheaper A4s up had the scintillating detail - a sparkly, checkmark-shaped strip of LEDs flanking the signature four rings. Nothing like it had ever been seen before and, for a while, you could pick out an Audi heading toward you from afar just based on that pattern of LEDs.</p><p>In 2009, the Audi R8 V10 <a href="https://newatlas.com/audi-r8-v10-becomes-first-all-led-car/10655/">became the first car</a> fitted exclusively with LEDs. Its headlights, turn signals, and daytime running lights all used the technology, which Audi claimed reduced CO2 emissions and was more efficient than the widely used halogen light bulbs. </p><p>It's now 2021 and nearly everything on the road uses LEDs of some kind, but Audi's still found a way to distinguish itself. Recently, I tested out a 2021 RS 6 Avant - <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/audi-rs-6-avant-review-mercedes-porsche-price-horsepower-wagon-2021-2">read the review here</a>! - and stumbled across a neat little light show it puts on when you lock or unlock it. For your viewing pleasure and convenience, I have GIFed the experience below.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant." height="563" width="1000" msid="81127661" hostid="261"></div><p>When you unlock the car, the front daytime running lights light up in sequence, almost like a welcome greeting. When you lock the car, the rear lights fade out in sequence, like a curtain closing after a show. </p><p>As far as I can tell, this choice was purely an aesthetic one. It certainly doesn't make the car drive any faster or better. It just gave me, the driver, some small delight in seeing it. There doesn't seem to be any other reason to include such a feature. </p><p>(And before you email me to yell at me that this is old news and I should get with the program: The internet isn't all about <em>you</em>. Not everyone knows this about Audis.)</p><p>But that's not all! I invite you to check out two more things.</p><p>First, the RS 6 Avant's door sills light up in the dark and the car projects "Audi Sport" onto the ground, lest you forget what sort of vehicle you have.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_95" height="3750" width="2500" msid="81127664" hostid="261"></div>Second, and more practically, the RS 6 Avant's interior lighting includes seat-belt buckle illumination!<p>The wagon seats five, so five buckles are encased in a ring of light for you to locate more easily. Anyone who has felt around in the dark for their buckle no longer has to if they're riding in one of these.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant." height="506" width="900" msid="81127669" hostid="261"></div><p>The rest of the cabin lighting gives off a very futuristic, <a href="https://www.google.com/search?q=tron+aesthetic&amp;safe=off&amp;rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS911US914&amp;sxsrf=ALeKk01Xw7-hmps-F5KIvflDXwC-M4Tmbw:1613505395760&amp;source=lnms&amp;tbm=isch&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=2ahUKEwiq-NP_l-_uAhXEneAKHarECYgQ_AUoAXoECBkQAw&amp;biw=1089&amp;bih=717&amp;dpr=2BkQAw&amp;biw=1089&amp;bih=717&amp;dpr=2">Tron-like aesthetic</a>. If you looked at the interior during the day, you'd see that the light fits perfectly with the minimalist design. </p><p>But those seat-belt buckle indicator lights. That's some real MVP stuff right there.</p>

The $120,000 Audi RS 6 Avant wagon has some of the fanciest light features of any car - check them all out

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The 2021 RS 6 Avant is the first performance RS station wagon that <keyword id="6363321" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="audi">Audi</keyword>'s sold in the US.</li><li>In the 10 days I spent with it, I found it was just as sporty and practical as any performance SUV.</li><li>Prices start at $109,000. After options, my loaner came out to $119,840 MSRP.</li></ul><p>To any Audi fan, station wagon enthusiast, and car aficionado, the idea of the RS 6 Avant ever arriving on US shores has always existed in the mythical plane somewhere between "maybe in a thousand million years, you dirtbag American" and "lmao get bent." </p><p>But after much begging - and furious <a href="https://jalopnik.com/if-we-want-rs-wagons-in-the-u-s-audi-says-we-should-wr-1824268320">letter writing</a> - Audi finally relented. In August 2019, the automaker officially announced the mighty RS 6 Avant's arrival with <a href="https://media.audiusa.com/en-us/releases/348">a press release</a> jubilantly titled "COMING TO AMERICA!!!" It marked the first time the wagon had ever been imported stateside in the 25-year history of Audi RS cars.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_83" height="1667" width="2500" msid="80883301" hostid="261"></div>Fast-forward five months past <a href="https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a33834559/2021-audi-rs6-avant-wagon-arrive-usa/">the arrival of the first customer orders</a> and I finally got my own go in the thing. It is fast. It is powerful. And - in the case of my loaner - very, very red. <p>It was every bit worth the wait.</p><h2><strong>The 2021 RS 6 Avant: The name</strong></h2><p>Let's first break down the name.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_7" height="3750" width="2500" msid="80883304" hostid="261"></div>The RS 6 is the highest-trim version of Audi's A6 model, which is available as either a sedan or a station wagon. In Audi-ese, Avant means station wagon. This is the only body style the RS 6 comes in. <p>RS stands for "Rennsport" and is German for "racing sport." Exclusive, powerful, and expensive, those wearing the famed RS badge represent the most performance-oriented cars in Audi's lineup. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_31" height="1667" width="2500" msid="80883307" hostid="261"></div>Here in the US, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/this-audi-station-wagon-is-supercar-fast-but-if-you-live-in-america-you-cant-have-one-2015-10">we didn't always get all the RS models Audi presented in Europe</a>. Yet, by some stroke of luck (though more likely <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-01-07/richer-americans-are-skipping-suvs-for-station-wagons?sref=P6Q0mxvj">a strong desire for money</a>), Audi <a href="https://media.audiusa.com/en-us/releases/434#:~:text=The%20new%20RS%206%20Avant,the%20R8%20Coupe%20and%20Spyder.">now offers six</a> RS models to its American buyers.<h2><strong>Details and safety ratings: Superwagon</strong></h2><p>The RS 6 Avant <a href="https://media.audiusa.com/en-us/models/rs-6-avant">uses</a> a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 that produces a claimed 591 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission sends that power to all four wheels via Audi's Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_60" height="1667" width="2500" msid="80883308" hostid="261"></div>Its 0-to-60-mph sprint happens in an estimated 3.5 seconds. Stopping power comes from the massive 16.5-inch brake rotors found up front and the 14.6-inch rotors found in the rear.<p>The RS 6's length comes to 16 feet and total curb weight tips the scale at a hefty 4,960 pounds. With the second row of seats upright, total cargo space comes to 30 cubic feet.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_51" height="3750" width="2500" msid="80883309" hostid="261"></div>The RS 6 Avant also uses the 48-volt mild-hybrid system present in other Audis such as the A8 and Q8. Unlike in purely hybrid cars, the mild-hybrid system is not here to add to the engine's existing power or anything like that. It does not drive the wheels, nor is there an EV-only driving mode.<p>Rather, it's to help with fuel economy, allowing for a smoother startup during the car's stop/start function, according to an Audi spokesperson. The first, which is what my loaner was equipped with, is a standard adaptive air suspension that can lower or raise the car depending on your preferences. The second is the optional RS sport suspension that supposedly makes the big wagon feel like a track car when taking a corner.<p>In terms of mileage, the EPA estimates the RS 6 to return 15 mpg in the city, 22 mpg on the highway, and 17 mpg combined. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_48" height="1667" width="2500" msid="80883313" hostid="261"></div>At the time of this writing, the RS 6 Avant has not yet been tested for crashworthiness by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.<h2><strong>What stands out: Beast in disguise</strong></h2><p>The very best thing about having a wagon with nearly 600 horsepower is it's your very own dirty little secret, a beast hiding in plain sight. To the untrained eye, it's just another station wagon. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_85" height="1667" width="2500" msid="80883314" hostid="261"></div>Only those in the know will notice the musculature - the blacked-out grille, the giant intake cutouts in the fascia, the massive 21-inch wheels, the huge dual-exhaust pipes, the widened fenders, the brake discs the size of a large pizza - and recognize what they're looking at. But if the RS 6 Avant's subtly aggressive design won't give it away, its sharp V8 snap on startup will.<p>There are different ways to articulate power. For example, a little <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/2020-lotus-evora-gt-review-price-specs-horsepower-sports-car-2020-9">400-horsepower Lotus</a> that weighs as much as a bag of fruit and is rear-driven will whip-crack through its gears and fling itself, flea-like, through a corner. It moves through time and space with a kind of thrummy grittiness that's only a few steps below driving a live animal.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_22" height="1667" width="2500" msid="80883315" hostid="261"></div>The Audi's 591 horsepower, however, is held in check by its all-wheel drive system, automatic transmission, curb weight equal to nearly two <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/2022-honda-civic-debut-photos-sleek-styling-2020-11">Honda Civics</a> - truly, where is all that weight coming from? - and various other onboard electronic traction control systems. <p>This is not to say the car isn't fast, because it very much is. But it's a manageable 591 horsepower. It'll just as happily cruise around town at 25 mph as it would merging onto highways with the ferocity of leaving its own paint behind. But you, sitting in the driver's seat, are more or less sheltered from that. Things aren't as loud and never rattly. It's smooth like an A380 Airbus taking flight.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_88" height="1667" width="2500" msid="80883317" hostid="261"></div>Adding to the RS 6 Avant's clout as a brilliant daily driver is its tight and responsive steering, pillowy air suspension, and rear-axle steering. You'll be able to make the sharpest turns and sit on the highway for hours on end with zero complaint.<h2><strong>What falls short: Beefy boi</strong></h2><p>I tried, very much, to like Audi's MMI interface system and stacked center touchscreen console. The screens' haptic feedback helped somewhat, but in the end, I still wished for some physical switchgear.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.OEM_2" height="1875" width="2500" msid="80883318" hostid="261"></div>I spent the days I had with the RS 6 Avant trying to figure out where all the weight was coming from. At 4,960 pounds, it's anywhere between 480 to 850 pounds heavier than the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/2020-kia-telluride-review-price-specs-suv-horsepower-three-row-2020-9">Kia Telluride</a>, a vastly larger midsize, three-row SUV.<p>The wagon is not particularly wide nor long; it fits five people reasonably well and has a deep trunk. But it's not outlandishly big in any unusual ways. The weight must be coming from everything packed inside - all the safety tech, comfort and convenience features, electronics, and mild-hybrid system.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.OEM_3" height="1875" width="2500" msid="80883320" hostid="261"></div>Certainly, this weight affected the RS 6's gas mileage. It admittedly isn't stellar even with the cylinder deactivation system, which turns off four of the eight cylinders when little is being demanded of the engine.<p>It's possible that Audi just phoned this one in because it knows the RS 6 Avant is the last of its kind. The German automaker already offers a couple of EVs and <a href="https://media.audiusa.com/en-us/releases/399">has plans to up that number</a> to a total of 20 by 2025. The space for purely gas-driven cars is dwindling, especially if it concerns an inefficient superwagon. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.OEM_12" height="1667" width="2500" msid="80883321" hostid="261"></div>The next RS 6 we see could quite well be all-electric - or hybridized, at the very least. Either way, the RS 6 Avant, awesome as it is now, cannot be sustainable in Audi's electrified future push.<h2><strong>How it stacks up to its competitors: Dreams do come true</strong></h2><p>This one's easy. Alexa, how many automakers build 600-horsepower wagons and actually sell them in the US? Answer: Three. Aside from Audi, there's Mercedes-AMG and Porsche. That's it!</p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_53" height="3750" width="2500" msid="80883323" hostid="261"></div>The 2021 RS 6 Avant starts at $109,000. My loaner was loaded up with options such as Tango Red metallic paint ($595), the Executive Package ($2,500), the Black Optic Package ($2,450), the Driver Assistance Package ($2,250), sport exhaust ($1,000), carbon twill structure inlay ($500), red brake calipers ($500), and the destination charge ($1,045).<p>The final damage? A total of $119,840 MSRP. But when you look at the competition, the Audi is actually the <em>cheapest</em> one. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_58" height="1667" width="2500" msid="80883325" hostid="261"></div>The <a href="https://www.mbusa.com/en/vehicles/model/e-class/wagon/e63s4s">Mercedes-AMG E 63 S Wagon</a> starts at $112,450 and produces a claimed 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. The <a href="https://www.porsche.com/usa/models/panamera/panamera-models/panamera-turbo-s-sport-turismo/">Porsche Panamera Turbo S Sport Turismo</a>, with a claimed 620 horsepower, starts at $181,700 and will be available in early 2021.<p>Recent Audis have lagged behind Mercedes-AMG in terms of interior luxury and quality and Porsche in terms of overall driving feedback. But I think the RS 6 Avant looks the best of the three - all of my loaner's blacked-out badging did it wonderful favors - and I simply can't shake that special feeling that <em>this is the RS 6 Avant, man! </em></p><p><em><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_75" height="1667" width="2500" msid="80883327" hostid="261"></div>This</em> is the superwagon we all drooled over while reading European car magazines and cursing out Audi for delivering <em>yet another</em> slice of forbidden fruit. But now it's here! Never mind that Porsche and Mercedes have already beaten Audi in bringing powerful wagons stateside. Dreams do come true!</p><p>Perhaps only behind <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chevrolet-corvette-mid-engine-review-c8-horsepower-price-specs-chevy-2020-10">the heroically blue C8 Corvette</a> I had last summer, the RS 6 Avant was by far the biggest fan favorite among passersby while I had the car. It's possible that Audis hit different up in Vermont, but I had fans coming up the driveway to have a look, an RS 3 owner whipping around the Best Buy lot to park next to me and chat for a bit, and two teenagers rolling by in their modified Scion TC where one yelled to the other, "Dude! Do you know how <em>rare</em> those are?"</p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_73" height="1667" width="2500" msid="80883328" hostid="261"></div>To the unsuspecting, the RS 6 Avant is just another Audi station wagon. This fly-below-the-radar, German-sleeper-superwagon attitude has always been the point, ever since the first RS 6 Avant <a href="https://www.autoevolution.com/audi/rs6-avant/">was introduced in 2002</a>. <p>But to the indoctrinated, 2021 RS 6 Avant represents the blessed end of a miserable 19-year slog of wanting what we couldn't have.</p><h2><strong>Our impressions: The antidote</strong></h2><p><keyword id="10752663" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="station-wagons">Station wagons</keyword> might suffer from some image issues, but it's misplaced. Anyone who still thinks wagons are the epitome of suburban, wood-paneled, parent-mobile needs to wake up because <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2014/07/the-last-great-gasp-of-the-american-station-wagon/373776/">it's not the 1980s anymore</a>. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_44" height="3750" width="2500" msid="80883331" hostid="261"></div>Thanks to Porsche, Mercedes, and now Audi, wagon ownership in the US is no longer what it once was. SUVs are the errand-runners now. They're the normies. Hardly anyone has a wagon anymore.<p>But to those thinking about 500- or 600-horsepower SUVs from Range Rover, Maserati, BMW, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Mercedes-AMG, Porsche, Bentley, or Lamborghini, I have a few reminders for you.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.OEM_16" height="1667" width="2500" msid="80883332" hostid="261"></div>These performance SUVs are fast, but so much goes into countering their physics alone: suspension that's been uncomfortably stiffened to prevent inherent lean and body roll, and to mimic the ride quality of a sports car. Sure, these massive SUVs come with headline-grabbing power figures and big brakes, but most realistically, they're to contend with the unavoidable extra weight. This doesn't need to be necessary!<p>Rather than buy something with a ton of onboard, physics-defying witchcraft that tries to force it into driving like something lower and sportier, just buy the thing that's <em>already</em> lower and sportier. A performance wagon's center of gravity is not only innately lower, leading to better handling and aerodynamics, but you'll also stand out from the crowd.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Audi RS 6 Avant.KL_123" height="3750" width="2500" msid="80883334" hostid="261"></div>In the 10 days that I spent with the RS 6 Avant, I found it just as capable as any high-horsepower SUV that I've driven. It fit just as much cargo, was just as fast, and was easier to see out of. The air suspension provided a dreamlike ride on long highway stints. By the end of my loan, the red paint was coated in snow and slush like a proper Nordic sleigh. <p>If you're sick and tired of looking around at our roads and seeing that they're choked with SUVs and other big cars taking up more space than they have to, a solution exists. Why fix what isn't broken, right?</p><p>The <keyword id="10451261" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="2020-audi-r8">2020 Audi R8</keyword> V10 Performance Coupe Quattro is Audi's halo car: a sleek mid-engined, two-seater coupe with all-wheel drive and a naturally aspirated V10 nestled between its axles. Compared to Mercedes-AMG, which only sports a front-engined coupe as a halo, and BMW, which has no halo at all, the Audi stands out.</p><div type="image" title="2020 Audi R8 V10 Performance Coupe Quattro_KL_18" height="1667" width="2500" msid="79782845" hostid="261"></div>But there's no denying the R8's age. The first model appeared in <a href="https://www.autoblog.com/2006/09/27/paris-motor-show-say-hello-to-the-audi-r8/">2006 at the Paris Motor Show</a> and its basic principles have largely remained the same.<p>In the year of our Lord 2020, the R8's power and speed are perennially good. A 2019 facelift raised the base model's horsepower slightly and renamed the range-topping model the "R8 V10 Performance Coupe Quattro," which is where we find ourselves.<p>Today, you cannot buy a new V8-powered R8. You cannot buy a new R8 with a manual transmission. Today's R8 comes exclusively with 10 cylinders and an automatic.</p><h2><strong>Details and safety ratings: More than 100 horsepower per liter</strong></h2><div type="image" title="2020 Audi R8 V10 Performance Coupe Quattro_KL_63" height="3750" width="2500" msid="79782856" hostid="261"></div>Wide and low-slung, the 2020 R8 is blessed with classical supercar proportions and good looks. The R8 and the Huracán that it shares its engine with are the only two V10-powered cars you can buy new today.<p>In Performance Coupe Quattro tune, that engine <a href="https://media.audiusa.com/en-us/models/r8-coupe">makes a claimed</a> 602 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. The power's sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Audi estimates a 0-to-60 mph sprint to happen in just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph.</p><div type="image" title="2020 Audi R8 V10 Performance Coupe Quattro_KL_64" height="3750" width="2500" msid="79782862" hostid="261"></div>Other standard equipment includes sport suspension, 20-inch wheels, ceramic brake discs, and carbon fiber trim on the engine compartment, mirrors, door sills, rear spoiler, and the iconic sideblades.<p>The car's curb weight comes to 3,638 pounds. </p><p>The EPA estimates the R8 to return 13 mpg in the city, 20 mpg on the highway, and 16 mpg combined. It gave the car a score of two out of 10 on its fuel economy and tailpipe greenhouse gas rating. Though the R8's stats are similar to those of the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mclaren-gt-supercar-review-price-specs-info-photos-competitors-2020-11">McLaren GT</a>'s, the Audi just <em>feels</em> so much faster and more exciting. More alive. More eager. Far more dramatic.<p>The power delivery also feels far more immediate and direct: You lean on the accelerator, the dual-clutch snaps down a couple of gears faster than you can think, and you rocket forward without having to wait for the turbochargers to spool up. In terms of instant gratification, big-displacement and naturally aspirated engines just can't be beat.</p><div type="image" title="2020 Audi R8 V10 Performance Coupe Quattro_KL_70" height="1667" width="2500" msid="79782866" hostid="261"></div>And the R8's <a href="https://www.autoblog.com/2019/11/04/2020-audi-r8-coupe-spyder-review/">8,700-rpm</a> shrieker of a redline lets that <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg2ivxa0sj0">V10 sing across all octaves</a>. Perhaps this is also why the R8 feels so fast: It is so effing loud. On start up, it lets loose with sharp bark that startles passersby. Its <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VloEagry010">trebly idle</a> is expectant, a raspy purr of something tightly coiled and ready to pounce.<p>But get into the R8 and you'll immediately notice how airy the cabin is. There's no massive screen taking up the center console and blocking your forward visibility. Instead, the car's functions are controlled via the 12.3-inch driver instrument display. Your passenger cannot access screen inputs, but they also aren't isolated from you like they are in the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chevrolet-corvette-mid-engine-review-c8-horsepower-price-specs-chevy-2020-10">C8 Corvette</a>. Overall, the R8's cabin conveys room to breathe.</p><div type="image" title="2020 Audi R8 V10 Performance Coupe Quattro_KL_67" height="1667" width="2500" msid="79782867" hostid="261"></div>There's even a handy little parcel shelf behind the seats, but be mindful of loose items you put there. As soon as you hit the brakes hard, your stuff could go flying.<h2><strong>What falls short: Climate guilt</strong></h2><p>As fast and clever as the R8's dual-clutch auto is for brisk driving, it doesn't love regular commuting quite as much. Slow deceleration for stop signs and red lights is met with hiccuping downshifts. </p><div type="image" title="2020 Audi R8 V10 Performance Coupe Quattro_KL_45" height="1667" width="2500" msid="79782870" hostid="261"></div>And the sport-tuned suspension, which revels in providing a flat, lean-free ride in fast corners, doesn't offer a softer setting for when you <em>don't</em> want your teeth rattling inside your head every time you hit a bump. The ride quality feels deliberately tuned to be on the harder side - because apparently this is what articulates "sportiness" - but these old bones (I'm 28) wished for something more forgiving. <p>And I couldn't look away from two glaring aspects of the R8: its fuel economy and tailpipe emissions. Getting 13 mpg in the city in 2020 is <em>not</em> good. Getting a rating of <em>one</em> on the EPA's tailpipe smog rating is worse! I couldn't shake the dreadful feeling that every time I accelerated in the R8, a litter of otter pups suffocated to death.   </p><div type="image" title="2020 Audi R8 V10 Performance Coupe Quattro_KL_52" height="1667" width="2500" msid="79782916" hostid="261"></div>This posed a huge problem for me, because even though V10s are my favorite engine configurations of all time, I've come to the realization that my climate guilt is now too strong for me to enjoy these things as much as I used to. <h2><strong>Against competitors? Ten (10) reasons to stick with the Audi</strong></h2><p>I love the R8's retro, screenless interior, but buyers might not look at it as favorably when compared against the R8's other, more modern competitors. </p><div type="image" title="2020 Audi R8 V10 Performance Coupe Quattro_KL_65" height="1667" width="2500" msid="79782917" hostid="261"></div>You can count the Acura NSX, Aston Martin DB11, Mercedes-AMG GT R Coupe, Porsche 911 Turbo S, and McLaren GT among the R8 Performance's competition. With a starting price of $195,900 and comparable stats, the Audi is positioned right in the thick of them all. <p>After options such as the Ascari Blue metallic exterior paint ($595), sport seat package with diamond stitching ($5,000), Bang and Olufsen sound system ($1,900), dynamic steering ($1,400), and the gas guzzler tax ($1,700), my loaner came out to a grand total of $208,245 MSRP.</p><div type="image" title="2020 Audi R8 V10 Performance Coupe Quattro_KL_58" height="3749" width="2500" msid="79782923" hostid="261"></div>The R8 is the only one with the naturally aspirated V10, though.<h2><strong>Our impressions: Old guard</strong></h2><p>It is clear that the V10 Performance Coupe Quattro is the top-tier R8. More expensive, faster, more powerful, and lighter than the regular (lol) V10 Coupe Quattro, it's like someone took the base model and poked it with a barbed stick.</p><div type="image" title="2020 Audi R8 V10 Performance Coupe Quattro_KL_22" height="1667" width="2500" msid="79782928" hostid="261"></div>I'm not altogether convinced the Performance version is the one you want to live with, though. It's the one to take to the track, for sure, but its non-adjustable suspension, sensitive brakes, and sheer power make it difficult to justify in normal, day-to-day settings. <p>Merely driving around my neighborhood and taking it on the highway a few times felt like doing the car a disservice. The Performance R8 has far too much, too good go-fast hardware to waste on the streets of suburbia.</p><div type="image" title="2020 Audi R8 V10 Performance Coupe Quattro_KL_53" height="3750" width="2500" msid="79782929" hostid="261"></div>Still, I enjoyed my time in it. Crippling climate guilt aside, the R8 is objectively a wonderful, sheer force of a thing and that'll certainly age gracefully in the coming years. First-gen R8s already have. <p>Audi took a risk with the R8 and it paid off, allowing Audi to ride the R8 wave ever since. The current car is just sort of stuck in the past decade.</p><div type="image" title="2020 Audi R8 V10 Performance Coupe Quattro_KL_30" height="3750" width="2500" msid="79782930" hostid="261"></div>Whereas its competition has advanced, incorporating forced induction and hybridization all in the name of efficiency, the R8 still stubbornly resides in the year 2009 - where stuffing a V10 into a car was far more common. In those days, if you wanted 10 cylinders, you had the BMW M5 and M6, Audi S8, Dodge Viper, and Lexus LFA to choose from.<p>As the years went on and these cars were all either discontinued or downsized, the R8 and Huracán persevered. Their V10s are gifts of epic noise and addicting linear power delivery. Paired with stellar handling, driving the R8 feels so much rawer and more visceral than driving most other modern supercars. </p><div type="image" title="2020 Audi R8 V10 Performance Coupe Quattro_KL_10" height="1666" width="2500" msid="79782934" hostid="261"></div>Turbochargers <em>are</em> more efficient, but they also button up an engine. Muffle it. Sometimes it takes driving something archaic to remind you of that.<p>I don't know how much longer cars like the R8 will stick around, what with tightening emissions regulations. Audi says it plans to have more fully electric models on the US market than any other luxury brand by the end of 2021 - and it's making good headway toward that goal. BMW currently only sells the i3 hatchback, while Mercedes-Benz doesn't sell any EVs at all in the US yet. </p>

New Delhi, Feb 3 () German luxury car maker Audi on Monday launched the fourth generation of its flagship sedan, Audi A8L, in India with price starting at Rs 1.56 crore (ex-showroom).
<p> The Audi A8L is powered by a 3.0-litre petrol engine, which generates 340 horse power (hp) and can accelerate from 0-100 in 5.7 seconds.
</p><p> Commenting on the launch, Audi India head Balbir Singh Dhillon said, "The new A8L marks the dawn of a new design era for brand Audi. The car is sophisticated, technology and feature rich."
</p><p> Stating that the company has fundamentally re-engineered the car in its fourth generation, Dhillon said the A8L has larger dimensions and is heavily customisable.
</p><p> "We want customers to customise their car keeping in mind their likes and requirements and are confident that the new Audi A8L will witness the same success that its predecessors have enjoyed in the country," he added.
</p><p> He said the A8 forms an important part of Audi's product portfolio for 2020 that focuses on the push for C&amp;D segment cars.
</p><p> "The A8L is our third completely new BSVI-compliant model launch after the all-new Audi A6 and Audi Q8," he added.
</p><p> Dhillon said that as India moves to BS-VI emission norm from April 1, Audi will enter the new era with petrol vehicles only.
</p><p> "At this point in time, for the time being, we will not bring in diesel cars. Effective April 1, when we move from BSIV to BSVI, our cars will be petrol cars," Dhillon told .
</p> He, however, added, "We have not given up on diesel though. We are still evaluating, for the time being at least for a year or so we will run this strategy of petrol only."  MSS RKL  HRS
