There has been a rising spate of heart attacks in India, particularly post Covid-19 pandemic. While some blame vaccines for triggering heart issues, health experts have allayed such fears, citing no evidence to prove that vaccines can cause heart attacks. According to the Global Burden of Disease, nearly a quarter (24.8 per cent) of all deaths in India is due to cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Recent reports showed many young celebrities, artistes, athletes, sportspersons -- who usually remain fit and have no history of CVD -- face heart attacks, while some also succumbed to it. "The increase in heart attacks is best explained by the fact that almost everyone has had <keyword id="8764262" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="covid" source="Orion">Covid</keyword>, some people multiple times," Dr Anurag Agrawal, Dean, Biosciences and Health Research, Trivedi School of Biosciences, Ashoka University, told IANS. "The risk of cardiovascular complications including heart attacks, is increased in individuals who have acute <keyword id="8764728" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="covid-19" source="Orion">Covid 19</keyword>," added Dr <keyword id="1979580" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vivekanand-jha" source="Orion">Vivekanand Jha</keyword>, Executive Director, George Institute India. Several studies have added evidence that Covid infection is behind the rising heart attacks. Research has shown that Covid has the potential to unmask silent cardiac symptoms among people with previously undiagnosed heart disease. A study by the British Heart Foundation has found that Covid can cause heart and kidney inflammation along with systemic body inflammation. Another study of nearly 160,000 people published in Cardiovascular Research, a journal of the European Society of Cardiology, early this year showed that Covid is associated with higher risks of cardiovascular disease and death in the short-and long-term. Compared to uninfected individuals, the likelihood of Covid patients dying was up to 81 times higher in the first three weeks of infection and remained five times higher up to 18 months later. Even a mild case of Covid can increase a person's risk of cardiovascular problems for at least a year after diagnosis, according to a study published in the journal Nature Medicine, last year. Researchers found that rates of many conditions, such as heart failure and stroke, were substantially higher in people who had recovered from Covid than in similar people who hadn't had the disease. However, some also flagged concerns with Covid vaccines. According to the CDC, evidence from multiple monitoring systems in the US and around the globe support a causal association between mRNA COVID-19 vaccines (i.e., <keyword id="4912868" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="moderna" source="Orion">Moderna</keyword> or Pfizer-BioNTech) and myocarditis and pericarditis. Media reports have also cited that the Oxford-AstraZeneca's jab, administered in India as Covishield, is linked with increasing clotting tendency leading to occlusion of arteries or veins. Recently, eminent British-Indian Cardiologist Dr Aseem <keyword id="35" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="malhotra" source="Orion">Malhotra</keyword> said that it was even "worse" in terms of cardiovascular effects, heart attacks and strokes. "The rise in heart attacks is not directly linked with the Covid vaccine but with covid infection mainly as there are lots of things that Covid can do with the cardiovascular system. There are reports of increased blood stickiness too in Covid infected people," Dr Amit Prasad, Associate Professor, School of Biosciences and Bioengineering, IIT Mandi, told IANS. "Even before vaccination started, such a link between Covid and an increase in future heart attacks could be seen. This observation is from 2020 data and thus clearly shows that the risk of increase in heart attacks started before vaccination started," added Agrawal. Dr. Vivekanand Jha, Executive Director, George Institute India said: "There is no evidence to suggest that heart attacks are linked to Covid vaccines." "The risk of cardiovascular complications including heart attacks, is increased in individuals who have acute Covid 19." Meanwhile, taking note of the rising heart attacks, Union Health Minister <keyword id="2607815" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="mansukh-mandaviya" source="Orion">Mansukh Mandaviya</keyword> said earlier this week that the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has started a research on the sudden rise in cardiac events after Covid-19. The results are expected in the next two months. Megan Rapinoe is so much more than the Sportsperson of the Year

Former Pakistani <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=cricket">cricket</a> captain <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=wasim+akram">Wasim </a><a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=wasim+akram">Akram</a>’s car was attacked by an unidentified gunman in Karachi and luckily the cricketer escaped unhurt. 
 
The incident happened when he was on his way to National Stadium in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Karachi">Karachi</a> and a gunman opened fire at his car. 
 
Akram told reporters that no one was hurt, saying, “A car hit my vehicle and when we asked the driver to pull over, he stepped out and opened fire. He definitely looked like an official. If he can do this to me, what will he do to the common man?"

Twitterati had re-discovered Ganguly’s old ad with Fortune Oil that said it is ‘a healthy for heart oil’ and the irony was not lost on people. They were also quick to jump to the conclusion that Fortune oil is unhealthy and its old ad even started making rounds on WhatsApp. To soften the uproar coming in its way, Fortune Oil deleted the ad from its official website and social media handles. It further shared a few tips to keep one’s heart-healthy. In a personalised note, Ganguly openly talked about his heart condition and what consumers can learn from his episode. “Love your heart. Take good care of it,” he concluded. Fortune Oil appointed Ganguly as its brand face in 2020 to target mid-age people with its campaign ‘Welcome to the 40s,' which aimed to promote maintaining heart health and good lifestyle. The campaign backfired a year later and it was a blow hard to forget. However, when a brand faces a huge crisis related to their brand ambassadors such as this, the traditional PR advice is to maintain a low profile to cushion the blow. Adani Wilmar, on the other hand, decided to address the concerns and face the situation head-on. It also waited for the right amount of time to launch a piece of communication -- long enough to give its consumers some space to process the news and but not too long before it is a distant memory. And it seems to have won brand experts admiration. Albeit, will a brand ambassador coming to bat for a brand and talk about the health benefits it serves, be enough to regain its consumers' trust? Here is what experts had to say: Dilip Cherian, Founder and Partner, Perfect Relations: <div type="image" title="Dilip-Cherian1" msid="80928599" hostid="261"></div> There is no doubt that some response would have been expected from any consumer products company which is also substantially consumer-facing. So I guess, Fortune really didn’t have too much of a choice or perhaps was facing image pressures to explain its stance. This actually is one of the huge consequences of having an extremely popular and visible brand ambassador. The price you have to pay is often that, anything that happens to the ambassador actually happens to the company. So rather than entering a situation where a stent within the company would be necessary, I think that responding was smart. Opting for a print advertisement allowed the company to actually communicate at many levels. As we tell our clients today, owned media and paid media can be multiplied appropriately to reach the audiences you want in the ways you want. Taking a print advertisement was only one of the options. It could easily have been addressed far more cheaply and just as effectively by having this content put on the Fortune website. Would it have worked? The answer is yes, if properly promoted. Owned media can very often play the role that conventional media has played in recent times. This is one of the huge advantages that we have been able to get companies involved in understanding during the year of lockdown. Now that the advertisement is out, clever digital manipulation and propagation is the answer if that is done then the point will be well taken amongst many more stakeholders than just those who happened to read the print copy. The lessons a brand can learn from this are quite clear. There is no doubt that large consumer facing brands need to be conscious of who they choose as a brand ambassador and recognise that along with huge gains come the pains. The second lesson would be that responding is smarter than smarting in silence. Third lesson is that using your owned media would have been infinitely cheaper as a means of responding. Lesson four, clever use of social media and aggressive use of traditional media can very often multiply what you choose to put out on owned media. To me, that was an opportunity lost. What if Sourav had not recovered. It would have ensured the loss of customer trust forever. Good that he did, and it gave the brand an opportunity to address it. It is great to see them take this up now and in such a sweet and toned down manner. In today's day and age, it does not work if you choose to lie low. Apart from it being a wasted opportunity to connect with your audience, the silence will backfire. Crisis needs to be addressed head-on with a smart strategy when the fires are the hottest. I do believe they've hit the sweet spot with a heartfelt message and on an appropriate day. Using a single medium is in line with their cautionary wait &amp; watch approach. Not too massive but at the same time reaching just about enough audiences. What I am sure they would have anticipated and counted on was that the same branding experts who pulled them up for not addressing the crisis earlier would be impressed enough or have an opinion either way to give them more space on their social media real estate. Lo and behold ! It worked out just as planned. Some lessons that brands can learn from this crisis and its management: Never ever waste a good crisis. Every crisis is an opportunity in disguise so use it. When you do choose to address it make sure you are aware of the circumstances around the crisis so that you can choose the right medium for the message. This awareness will help you use your budget wisely. Amplification is essential. Identify the people and channels who will be most apt for it before deciding on your response. Respond to a crisis with facts and a lot of empathy. A situation like this would have worked really well for the brand and earned it a lot of goodwill if it had stood by its brand ambassador on the day of the heart attack. Be human. So this really was an unexpected event in terms of public relations because Sourav Ganguly was always the right fit for the brand and he is a national treasure, but it was just unfortunate that this happened to him. Having said this, from a PR perspective, when something like this happens, conventional wisdom does suggest that a brand lie low, retract all their communication and pull out adverts, as was the case with Fortune. This is understandable because no brand would not want to alienate its customers or lose out on revenue. However, we have to understand that we’re part of a more evolved digital economy today and that a brand need not necessarily hide behind a crisis. Bringing the issue to the forefront and addressing it head-on, is the best suited strategy for a modern PR and communications landscape. Without being insensitive to a brand ambassador’s health situation, it is an opportune moment to reiterate messaging around heart health eating and the importance of eating well and living well. This is not to say that a brand should use someone's misfortune to push sales and marketing, but it is about communicating and engaging with customers in an honest manner, and telling them that the risk of heart attacks is real for everyone. In a crisis situation like this, there has to be an acute understanding of brand sentiment and a two-way-communication model has to be adopted. Customers and brands need to work together to identify messages because at the end of the day, customers understand risks of a product and it is the duty of any company to educate its customers about these risks. Making the customer your partner and working in a symbiotic relationship is the key. Therefore it isn’t advisable to have a knee-jerk reaction of retracting communication and adverts during an unprecedented situation like this. In fact, creating honest communication, addressing the situation directly, and working through issues is advisable. It’s all about responding to your customer and providing them with the most correct, accurate, and valuable information.

Even as Shiv Sena has threatened Pakistani athletes of dire consequences if they come to India, Indian government has opened new gates for Pakistani sportspersons to come and play for <keyword id="103311" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="12th-South-Asian-Games">12th South Asian Games</keyword>, to be held in Guwahati and Shillong. 
 
For the games to be held in February next year, Pakistani sportspersons would be able to enter India through Kolkata and Guwahati airports. At present, Pakistanis can either enter India by foot from Wagah-Attari border or use the air route to enter Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. However, all these are at considerable distances from Guwahati and Shillong, which is why arrangements have been done to welcome Pakistanis athletes from Kolkata and Guwahati airports. 
 
12th South Asian Games would be the first major sporting event after India hosted the 19th Commonwealth Games in 2010 which would see a good number of Pakistani athletes in India. "Since Guwahati and Kolkata airports are near to the venue of South Asian Games, they have been added to the designated check posts for Pakistani Passport holders and non-validated pass (NVP) holders during the period of South Asian Games," says an order issued by the Home Ministry. 
 
"By allowing them to enter from Kolkata and Guwahati, we intend to cause no inconvenience the Pakistani sportspersons as they can make a quick and short journey to the sports stadium," a senior government official told ET. 
 
This step was required for the safety of Pakistani contingent after their government raised concern over it. A team from Pakistan is also expected to come to India, in January, to ensure the safety measures. After 26/11 Mumbai attacks which were masterminded by some Pakistani nationals, there have been a lot of protests about Pakistanis coming to Mumbai, which is why the Indian government thinks that it would be safer for them to step foot directly in Kolkata and Guwahati. 
 
The sporting event would also see Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and Afghanistan participating.

Olympic qualifying has brought her more success in the attacking third, as she's registered a goal and two assists through the three CONCACAF games.Andonovski's abundance of prolific forwards lends him no assistance in further slimming the roster for the Olympic games. And with Morgan hoping to return and Pugh continuing to train with the national teams in the hopes of earning a nod in the future, there are no easy answers regarding which strikers to bring to Tokyo.<h2>Despite all the prolific strikers on the roster, a little-known midfielder has led the USWNT in scoring through qualifiers </h2>Believe it or not, the team's leading scorer through the first three qualifying matches doesn't even reside on the front line. Lindsey Horan - who played for the USWNT at the 2016 Olympics and 2019 World Cup - has netted a whopping five goals, including her first career hat trick, and tacked on two assists from the midfield. The 25-year-old only got four starting nods through seven games in France, and her 357 minutes on the pitch ranked 12th among her 24 World Cup teammates.Gualter Fatia / Getty ImagesLindsey Horan has been a surprising bright spot for the USWNT's midfield.The rest of the midfield proves difficult to part ways with as well. Rose Lavelle became America's sweetheart after putting the nail in the coffin against the Netherlands in the World Cup final and is undoubtedly a weapon for the US in the attacking third. Sam Mewis led the entire team with four assists during the World Cup and, at six-feet tall, she's an invaluable contributor on set pieces. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/julie-ertz-cries-in-coachs-arms-after-nwsl-championship-loss-2019-10">Julie Ertz</a>, US Soccer's player of the year in 2019, is also lethal on corners and free kicks. Plus, the 27-year-old bruiser is key to the USWNT's lock-down defense. Andi Sullivan - a 24-year-old NWSL standout - is the only new addition to the midfield, but she's had a number of solid showings since getting called up for friendlies in the fall.<h2>Even the final decisions on the back line will be far from straightforward</h2>The back line - which sees the least amount of substitutions in a typical game - is also far from from set. All four World Cup starters return, but in his bid to determine a roster of his own, Andonovski has experimented with playing - and starting - Emily Sonnett and Ali Krieger. And even though Portland Thorns netminder Adrianna Franch made the overseas trip last summer, it's possible Andonovski will choose to make his one of his final two cuts here. Ellis only brought two keepers to the 2016 Olympics, while then-head coach Tom Sermanni took a risk by only bringing one goalie to London in 2012.Andonovski knew that he'd have some difficult decisions to make along the route to Tokyo, but stellar performances from players who have long served as national team reserves has only exacerbated his predicament. Rest assured, its improbable that the former Seattle Reign head coach will make a "wrong" decision; while the USWNT starting XI is almost universally considered the best on the planet, its backups come in a close second. While the self-dubbed nightclub entrepreneur may seem like he has it all, including counting famous heiress Paris Hilton and actor Jamie Foxx as his close friends, his life has had more twists and turns than the average person.Sitting down with Business Insider in his South Kensington bistro and bar Streaky Gin, Fournier told us how he was born into "a life of luxury" in London but after his parents' "messy" divorce, he found himself as a child swapping chaffeur driven cars around the French riviera to taking the local bus in Hounslow, London.He started off his incredible career trajectory as a professional basketball player, playing in England, France, Italy, and the Middle East, captaining the British national team 38 times. But a severe injury ended his career as a professional sportsman and he turned into a borderline alcoholic.He told Business Insider about his rise to the top, how he made his fortune through owning famous nightclubs including <a href="http://www.bonbonniereclub.com/about.php">Bonbonniere Club</a> and <a href="http://www.streakygin.com">Streaky Gin</a>, and how he splits his time living in London and Miami. Business Insider: Tell us a bit about your childhood. Did you "have it made" from an early age?Joe Fournier: My dad was wealthy and I would say my mum was normal. They met by the French Riviera. My dad is from Monaco and was a pilot, while my mum stayed at home. I went to [top French primary school in London] Lycée Français Charles De Gaulle de Londres and then an American Community School.However, my mum and dad got divorced, and it got messy, and we moved to Hounslow. I went from having a chaffeur driven car to school every day, to taking the bus.BI: So how did you get into basketball and become a professional player?<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>JF: I didn't live in a great neighbourhood, but there was a big following of basketball, and I ended up just taking it up here and there. When I went to Brunel University, I ended up paying just £2 ($3.13) a session to practice and be in the university team. It taught me discipline and how practice makes perfect. I'd shoot a hoop a thousand times a day until it was natural. I think it gave me better work ethic in the long run. I ended up doing a try-out in east London one day and actually made the first half of the England basketball team. I was on the bench for a while but I got my chance to play when someone, unfortunately for them, got injured.BI: An injury also ended your career as a professional basketball player. How did you react to such a sudden life change, and did you have a back-up plan?JF: I always wanted to be a professional sportsperson and I loved it. I've always been a light and happy person, but when I injured my leg, I ended up in one of the darkest places in my life. I used to go to my local pub in Isleworth, Hounslow to drink, drink, drink, and then drink some more. One day, after six months, one of the bar owners told me that this wasn't what my life was meant to turn out like, and I asked him if he thought I was an alcoholic. He pointed to a guy with a bright red face, who was 60 but looked like 105-years-old, and said "no, he's an alcoholic," but it was enough to make a point that I didn't want to become "that guy."BI: So how did you move on from that low point and become a gym owner? How did you build that client base?JF: I just snapped out of my depression and I took what little money I had left and put it into a little gym I set up. I bought the equipment second-hand off eBay and managed to secure a lease on a small space in Richmond with no references.I started my own gym, but it was hard. I managed to get a database of clients off a local spa and I cold-called around 1,500 people pretending to be a sales person for myself saying "this is Steve from Joe Fournier's gym" to get clients. It took around the 1,000 mark until someone said yes. I was a trainer, PR, and cleaner, all-in-one.BI: From that one person, you ended up <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1-Y97H0464">working with some pretty famous people</a>, like Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow, and were featured in Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Marie Claire, GQ, Esquire ... How did that happen? JF: Well, I had to sign a lot of non-disclosure agreements so I can't confirm or deny those clients, but I have worked for models, actors, actresses, royalty, and musicians.It was actually through advice from a friend who told me that I should hire a PR or an agency to get my name and my gym out there. Actually, after some convincing, I did, and my business built a lot of traction and by word of mouth I got my first celebrity client. It all kicked off from there.Eventually I wrote the <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Red-Carpet-Workout-Jordan-Paramor/dp/0755318684">"Red Carpet Workout" book in 2008, </a>and I expanded my training studios internationally. Then, a private equity company offered to buy my fitness business and I sold my studios around three years ago. [Fournier declined to comment on how much he made from the sale and the details.]BI: Why did you decide to get into nightclubs when you could have retired early? JF: I was at a loose end and my buddy needed some help in launching some nightclubs. But then I realised that it was a wise investment. It's really difficult to get people to do lunges and eat salad, but it was easy getting people get pissed, drink gin and tonic, party, and eat pizza.BI: You've had some incredible success with opening Whisky Mist, and then owning Bonbonniere nightclubs and Streaky Gin, how much has it made you in terms of cash?<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>JF: I'm opening The VIP Room London, Restaurant Hotel Chantelle, Streaky Gin Regent Street, Mahiki Beach Miami soon, and a summer pop up called Bonbonniere Mykonos. I feel like these clubs are my babies and I feel incredibly proud to be opening up so many new ones. It's my passion.Being a successful business person isn't to do with net worth. It's about doing what you love and what you give back. My businesses make around £20 million to £30 million ($31.3 million - $47 million) a year, so you can call me a multi-millionaire, but it's not about the money.You can be sad and have loads of money still.BI: How has your life changed since opening these clubs? You seem to be surrounded by celebrities all the time, <a href="https://instagram.com/joefournierclub/">especially on your Instagram.</a> Do you hire them to open clubs to get publicity, or do you count them as friends?JF: To be honest, I don't need to pay for someone famous to attend a club or make an appearance, a lot of the celebrities that do turn up are my friends, or someone I have hung out with before. I am humbled by that and the personal relationships that have got me to where I am. I would count Paris Hilton as a close friend for example. Also, when Jamie Foxx came to one of my clubs, it was after we went out for dinner and he decided it would be fun to go to the DJ booth and sing impromptu for 10 or 15 minutes. We just stayed at the club and got drunk.I've had Victoria's Secret having a party at one of the clubs, same with Will.i.Am, Tinie Tempah's single launch party, and others too. We didn't publicise, it was just where they wanted to hang out.BI: With your success, do you think you've become a bit of a target? What happened in Australia? [Fournier was arrested on a charge of assaulting a <a href="http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/trainer-to-the-stars-pays-the-price-for-tussle-over-taxi-fare-20100327-r42x.html">cab driver in Sydney in 2009</a>].JF: It's really difficult to talk about it as it did affect me. I was coming back from dinner with my fiancé at the time [Reanna Spaulding] and we took a regular taxi. He literally attacked me and because I do a lot of boxing, I managed to fight him off. He was really shady: it was a $6-$8 cab ride and he asked for a lot more. Because I didn't want any trouble, I went to the cash point to get it for him and he tried to attack me.What the press didn't report was that he was twice the size of me, my fiancé was with me, and after the police released me, I stayed in Australia for over two months, made some amazing friends, did some business deals and had a great time.Did it affect me? Yes, I probably will only take a private driver, instead of a cab from now on. But I am glass half full kind of guy and I am generally positive, so I have just moved on. What would you say is the recipe for your success?JF: I think 95% of everything I have ever done comes from discipline of playing sport and being part of a team. It gives you the will to win and that competitive edge. Believe in yourself and never give up. I know lots of people say that but it's the mentality for success. BI: So, lastly, what's the future for you, other than owning lots of nightclubs? Will you live the quiet life once you have children?JF: I'm single at the moment and I would love to have kids. I'd love to have three or four, but it just hasn't happened yet. My former fiancé had a child and my life was no less hectic than it is now.
