<ul><li>A joint venture between India and Russia has delivered 35,000 <keyword id="22298953" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="AK-203-rifles" source="keywords">AK-203 rifles</keyword> to the <keyword id="19908736" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Army" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Indian Army" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="Indian Army">Indian Army</keyword>.</li><li>The AK-203 rifles are being produced at the Korwa Ordnance Factory in Amethi.</li><li>The project includes technology transfer and 100% localisation of the AK-203 production.</li></ul> Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Russia, Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL), a joint venture (JV) between India and Russia, has announced the successful delivery of 35,000 AK-203 assault rifles to the Indian Army. The production of these rifles has been deployed in India in full compliance with the <keyword id="20018809" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Make-in-India" source="keywords">Make in India</keyword> and <keyword id="20769798" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Atmanirbhar-Bharat-Abhiyaan" source="keywords">Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan</keyword> programmes. The project includes technology transfer and 100% localisation of the AK-203 production. The Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited joint venture, co-founded by <keyword id="22300656" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ROSOBORONEXPORT" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="ROSOBORONEXPORT" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="ROSOBORONEXPORT">ROSOBORONEXPORT</keyword> on the Russian side, has completed the first phase of the project to produce AK-203 Kalashnikov assault rifles in India. To increase the degree of localisation, all necessary equipment has been shipped to the Korwa Ordnance Factory in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, and production facilities are now fully equipped, emphasised Alexander Mikheev, Director General of ROSOBORONEXPORT. This made it possible to produce and deliver a batch of 35,000 Kalashnikov assault rifles to the Indian Army within the timeframe agreed with the Ministry of Defence of India, he added. The Kalashnikov AK-203 assault rifle is a version of the AK-200 rifle chambered for the 7.62x39mm cartridge used in the Indian Army. The weapon has the traditional advantages of Kalashnikov assault rifles, which are reliability and ease of maintenance. The Indian government in 2021 had approved the plan to manufacture 5 lakh AK-203 rifles in UP's Amethi. The rifle is intended to replace the INSAS rifle that was inducted over three decades ago. The government will extend a one-time grant of Rs 22,000 crore to three state-owned fuel retailers to cover for the losses they incurred on selling domestic cooking gas <keyword id="6360114" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="lpg" source="Orion">LPG</keyword> below cost in the last two years, I&amp;B Minister Anurag Thakur said on Wednesday. The <keyword id="6355512" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="union-cabinet" source="Orion">Union Cabinet</keyword> headed by Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="narendra-modi" source="Orion">Narendra Modi</keyword> at a meeting on Wednesday approved the one-time grant to three oil marketing companies - <keyword id="6356834" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="indian-oil-corporation" source="Orion">Indian Oil Corporation</keyword> (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and <keyword id="500127" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="hindustan-petroleum-corporation-ltd" source="Orion">Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd</keyword> (HPCL), Thakur told a news briefing. The grant will be for covering the losses they incurred on selling LPG below cost to consumers from June 2020 to June 2022. The three firms sell domestic LPG at government-regulated prices to consumers. Between June 2020 to June 2022, the international prices of LPG soared by around 300 per cent. However, to insulate consumers from fluctuations in international LPG prices, the cost increase was not fully passed on to consumers of domestic LPG, an official statement said. Accordingly, domestic LPG prices have risen by only 72 per cent during this period, it said adding this led to significant losses for the three firms."Despite these losses, the three PSU OMCs have ensured continuous supplies of this essential cooking fuel in the country. The government has therefore decided to give a one-time grant to the three PSU OMCs for these losses in domestic LPG," it said. The Union Cabinet approved a one-time grant amounting to Rs 22,000 crore to the three oil marketing companies (OMCs). "This decision will help the PSU OMCs to continue their commitment to the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan, ensuring unhindered domestic LPG supplies and also supporting the procurement of Make in India products." Govt to give Rs 22,000 cr grant to oil PSUs to cover LPG losses

Guwahati, Jul 9 () Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday emphasised the need for continuing economic activities parallel to the fight against COVID-19 in the state. The chief minister directed the district administrations to ensure that there was no interruption in the implementation of developmental schemes while waging a relentless war against the virus, an official release said. Sonowal, in a video conference with the Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police and Joint Directors of Health Services of all districts, reviewed the COVID-19 scenario, along with the status of flood and erosion, and the implementation of various developmental schemes. The chief minister directed the Deputy Commissioners to take steps for skill mapping of those who have returned from outside the state so that they could be provided adequate employment opportunities. Some of the returnees could be engaged in the implementation of schemes like Jal Jeevan Mission while others could be given self employment opportunities through Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sonowal said. He asked the authorities to consult the respective public representatives of their districts before taking measures to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. Sonowal also directed the Joint Directors of Health Services of all districts to ensure that a patient suffering from other ailments, besides COVID-19, gets the required medical facilities on time. The chief minister instructed the SPs to prevent mass gatherings in their districts which might increase the risk of rapid transmission of coronavirus. The people and the government must work together to defeat this pandemic as it has entered a very critical phase now, the chief minister said. He also instructed the DCs to plant trees to increase forest cover in the state and take steps for making heritage sites encroachment free. The chief minister appreciated the district administrations of Golaghat, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Biswanath and Karbi Anglong for successfully curbing the menace of rhino poaching in Kaziranga National Park.
