Assets Under Management of equity mutual funds surged 5.4% sequentially in July: PL Wealth Management

Life Insurance Corporation of India (<keyword id="19903588" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="LIC" source="keywords">LIC</keyword>) MD and CEO Siddhartha Mohanty has said that the corporation is looking to make fresh investments of around Rs 1.30 lakh crore in equities during the current financial year. During April-June FY25, the insurance behemoth made an investment of about Rs 38,000 crore in <keyword id="19907577" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shares" source="keywords">shares</keyword> as against Rs 23,300 crore in the same period a year ago. LIC earned a profit of Rs 15,500 crore from its investments in equity markets during the first quarter. The profit from its investment was higher by 13.5 % quarter-on-quarter. "We are surely looking at the markets and price movements...we are looking to invest a good amount at least whatever we had invested in last financial year...LIC invested around Rs 1.32 lakh crore in FY'24," he said. The total equity investment portfolio constitutes Rs 12,39,740 crore as against Rs 8,39,662 crore in 2022-23, whereas other investments constitute Rs 37,35,774 crore as against Rs 34,05,190 crore in 2022-23. For the June quarter 2024, LIC reported a 10% increase in net profit to Rs 10,461 crore as against Rs 9,544 crore in the year-ago period. Total income increased to Rs 2,10,910 crore during the latest June quarter as against Rs 1,88,749 crore in the year-ago period. Total premium income for the quarter increased 16 % to Rs 1,13,770 crore as compared to Rs 98,363 crore in the same quarter a year ago.

It's just too soon, especially given the spread of the Omicron variant. However, the Fed seems eager to start reducing its balance sheet."<h3>Omicron</h3>Another bump in the new year for markets could be the spread of the Omicron variant. Inflation, which is at its <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/inflation-cpi-november-prices-index-economic-recovery-supply-chain-crisis-2021-12">highest in decades</a>, will continue to rise as Omicron spreads, "but it should peak by mid-2022 and then slowly decelerate," she said.Omicron's will likely be a near-term headwind. In the long-term it could mean the "end of the pandemic by the end of the first half of 2022," she wrote.Though Hooper is not an epidemiologist, other experts have echoed that view. White House chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci has said the highly transmissible variant could signal the end of the pandemic -- but there's "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fauci-says-omicron-covid-wave-could-peak-by-end-january-2021-12">no guarantee</a>."

Sustainable investments were worth around $30.7 trillion in 2018. Overall, 35.9% of assets managed across the United States, Europe, Australasia, Japan and Canada were <keyword id="49089" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Sustainability">sustainability</keyword> driven by early 2020, according to the biennial Global Sustainable Investment Review. This is 2.5% above the level registered in 2018. "The report again demonstrates that sustainable investment is a major force shaping global capital <keyword id="31671" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="markets">markets</keyword>, and, in turn is influencing companies and others seeking to raise capital in those global markets," the report said.Canada saw the biggest absolute regional growth of sustainable investments between 2018 and 2020, with a 48% increase and has become the biggest market for sustainable investments - 62% of assets managed in the country are classified as such. The US noted 42% growth, boosting its sustainable investments to a total of 33% of total assets under management, while Japan saw a 34% increase, while sustainability-linked assets under management in the Australasia region grew by 25%t.In Europe, sustainable investments declined, falling by 13% in this timeframe. 42% of assets managed in the region are classified as sustainable, making it the second-largest region for such investments. The report said the drop was the result of tougher criteria for classifying an asset as sustainable under the European Union's Sustainable Finance Action Plan. Looking at the way in which assets are made more sustainable, the report noted that there had been changes since 2018. In 2020, <keyword id="77363" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="ESG">ESG</keyword> integration was the most popular strategy as it applied to around $25.2 trillion worth of assets, followed by negative, or exclusionary, screening at $15.9 trillion and corporate engagement and shareholder action, which accounted for $10.5 trillion. There's a lot more to achieve, but the sector is increasingly on a path to a net zero future." The initiative, which was founded in December 2020 and is recognized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Race to Zero campaign, sees asset management firms committed to supporting emissions reductions in the real economy, developing investment products that are geared towards net zero and encouraging clients to invest in a climate friendly way. Signatories report their progress annually according to guidelines set by the Task Force for Climate-related Financial Disclosures. In May, the International Energy Agency published a <a href="https://www.iea.org/reports/net-zero-by-2050">special report</a> that concluded that in order to achieve net zero by 2050, there should be no new investments in fossil-fuel supply projects as well as a series of other limitations, including on the funding for coal-fired power plants. Amundi and <keyword id="6358584" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="HSBC">HSBC</keyword> Asset Management are among those that joined competitors including BlackRock, Vanguard, UBS, Fidelity, State Street and Allianz. As of August 6, there were 12,651 ether-related assets under management, following $2.8 million worth of inflows into these assets, breaking two weeks of outflows.
