The letter was dated December 10 and confirmed the investigation, per the FT.The Department of Labor later confirmed to the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/13/technology/apple-labor-investigation-employees.html">The New York Times</a> Monday it has opened an investigation into Apple. Per The Times, <keyword id="12063660" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="osha" source="Orion">OSHA</keyword>'s <keyword id="12110043" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="whistleblower" source="Orion">whistleblower</keyword> protection program will be conducting the investigation. The FT reported the investigation will look at whether Apple retaliated against Gjøvik.OSHA confirmed to Insider that it has opened a whistleblower investigation into Apple, but wouldn't confirm the identity of the whistleblower.Gjøvik told The Times she had filed a complaint against Apple "to ensure Apple knows they cannot get away with retaliating against me for exercising my federally and state-protected rights."Writing for <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ashley-gjovik-apple-fired-workplace-safety-sexism-harassment-2021-9">Insider</a> in September, Gjøvik said she was fired from Apple after filing labor complaints and publicly criticizing the company over issues including harassment. Gjøvik said she also raised concerns about potential toxic chemicals in the office building where she worked.In a statement to The Times and the FT Apple said it was "deeply committed to creating and maintaining a positive, inclusive workplace." OSHA is investigating Apple over its treatment of employees

In the email, Cook <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/whistleblower-apple-employee-tim-cook-iphone-leak-email-worker-rights-2021-10">reportedly wrote</a> that "people who leak confidential information do not belong here" and that Apple didn't "tolerate disclosures of confidential information, whether it's product IP or the details of a confidential meeting." The federal agency confirmed to Insider that it found merit that charges concerning statements by high-level executives at Apple, as well as company policies, violated the National Labor Relations Act.A merit ruling means the agency has investigated complaints and found sufficient evidence to support them. The NLRB also said some of Apple's company policies tended to "interfere with, restrain, or coerce employees in the exercise of their right to protected concerted activity," meaning the right to address work-related issues with coworkers.
