Indian Space Research Organisation (<keyword id="6358064" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ISRO" source="Orion">ISRO</keyword>) successfully executed the <keyword id="19218514" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Test-Flight-Abort-Mission" source="Orion">Test Flight Abort Mission</keyword>, for the <keyword id="6797456" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gaganyaan" source="Orion">Gaganyaan</keyword> mission on Saturday after the first test flight was aborted at 8:45 am due to a problem in the engine ignition. Earlier today, ISRO briefly aborted the launch of the first uncrewed test flight (TV-D1 Flight Test) in the Gaganyaan Mission. The space agency then said that the errors have been identified and corrected and the second launch was scheduled for 10:00 Hrs today. This Flight test vehicle Abort mission is conducted to demonstrate the performance of the Crew escape system as part of the Gaganyaan mission. The mission objectives of the TV-D1 launch are: Flight demonstration and evaluation of Test Vehicle subsystems; flight demonstration and evaluation of Crew Escape System including various separation systems; crew module characteristics; and deceleration system demonstration at higher altitudes and its recovery. The Test Vehicle is a single-stage liquid rocket developed for this abort mission. The payloads consist of the Crew Module (CM) and Crew Escape Systems (CES) with their fast-acting solid motors, along with CM fairing (CMF) and Interface Adapters. This flight simulated the abort condition during the ascent trajectory corresponding to a Mach number of 1.2 encountered in the Gaganyaan mission. This mission represents a significant milestone in India's effort to demonstrate that it is possible to send humans into space. The Gaganyaan project envisages a demonstration of human spaceflight capability by launching a crew of three members into an orbit of 400 km for a 3-day mission and bringing them safely back to earth by landing in Indian waters. This programme will make India the fourth nation to launch a manned spaceflight mission after the US, Russia, and China. Building on the success of the Indian space initiatives, including the recent Chandrayan-3 and Aditya L1 missions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed that India should now aim for new and ambitious goals, including setting up 'Bharatiya Antariksha Station' (Indian Space Station) by 2035 and sending the first Indian to the Moon by 2040. ISRO successfully launches Test Flight Abort Mission for project Gaganyaan

<ul><li>NASA’s launch abort system for its upcoming moon mission, Artemis, was successfully tested at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on June 02. </li><li>Launch abort systems aren’t a new concept but the Orion capsule is a new piece of hardware. </li><li>A functioning launch abort system could be the difference between saving or losing a crew in case a launch doesn’t go according to plan. </li></ul>The National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/3-apollo-astronauts-weigh-in-on-trumps-push-to-land-nasa-astronauts-on-the-moon-in-5-years/articleshow/69897306.cms">mission to the Moon</a> — <a href="http://www.nasa.gov/artemis">Artemis</a> — is scheduled for 2024 and plans to take astronauts with it into space. And, if you plan to push humans into space aboard a rocket, it’s best to have a fail safe in place in case things go wrong — and that’s where the launch abort system comes into place. The launch abort system for Artemis was <a href="https://blogs.nasa.gov/aa2/">tested yesterday</a> at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. It was a three minute test, called <a href="https://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/atoms/files/aa2_fact_sheet_0.pdf">Ascent Abort 2</a>, launched the <a href="https://www.nasa.gov/orion">Orion capsule</a> — a new piece of hardware by NASA required to fly humans safely to the moon — aboard a modified Peece missile procured from the US Air Force.

 The missile carried the Orion capsule to an altitude of around 44,000 feet, reaching speeds of 760 miles per hour before breaking apart. Mark Kirasich, the Orion Program Manager, called the test ‘spectacular’ and ‘really special’ for the program. Saving the crew Having a functioning launch abort system in place can mean the difference in saving or losing the crew in case the launch doesn’t go as planned.  The success of the <keyword id="7828710" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ascent-abort-2">Ascent Abort 2</keyword>, means that astronauts aboard Orion capsule for the Artemis mission can now be safely wrenched free of the rocket in the event of an emergency. Abort system consists of three solid rocket motor, one that jettisons the pod, one to control altitude and one that pushed Orion clear of the falling rocket. NASA just made sure its astronauts will be safe if the 2024 Artemis mission to the Moon fails

<ul class="summary-list"><li>In 2020, President Biden won Nevada by bringing together a broad Democratic coalition.</li><li>But he faces tough headwinds this year, as the state's economy has lagged relative to the country.</li></ul>For over fifteen years, Nevada has been a major success story for the Democratic Party.The late Sen. Harry Reid was instrumental in building up the state party, which led to high-profile victories like Barack Obama's presidential victories in 2008 and 2012, Catherine Cortez Masto's Senate win in 2016, and President Joe Biden's win in 2020.After years of GOP dominance in Nevada, it seemed as though Democrats had finally cracked the code for consistent victories, with a coalition of young voters, union members, Black and Latino voters, and suburbanites fueling their political ascent in the state.But ahead of November, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/biden-trump-november-election-abortion-israel-gaza-swing-states-2024-5">Biden is currently the underdog in Nevada</a>, weighed down by the state's slow economic recovery during the coronavirus pandemic. And how he shapes his economic message to voters across the state could very well determine whether or not he wins reelection.<h2 id="f8cd02fc-35b3-43bb-adad-e50a174e7ffb">Nevada's outsized importance</h2>Nevada only has six electoral votes, but the race between Biden and former President Donald Trump could come down to a few thousand — or even a few hundred votes — in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/battleground-states-2024-presidential-election-road-white-house-2022-12">key battleground states</a> across the country.The last GOP presidential nominee to win Nevada was George W. Bush in November 2004 — nearly 20 years ago.During that timespan, Nevada saw a population spike — largely centered in the Las Vegas and Reno areas — with a state population of 2.4 million residents in 2005 increasing to nearly 3.2 million residents last year.Nevada was deeply impacted by the Great Recession, as the housing downturn depressed home prices and led to high unemployment in various sectors — namely construction, finance, and real estate.And then <a target="_blank" href="https://www.reviewjournal.com/business/casinos-gaming/four-years-ago-las-vegas-casinos-shut-down-for-78-days-the-fallout-was-brutal-3017034/">the pandemic in 2020 shuttered the Las Vegas Strip for weeks</a>, an unprecedented blow to leisure travel and the hospitality industry overall. With another significant economic calamity affecting Nevada, the ramifications were bound to collide with Biden's economic pitch to voters.<h2 id="abc753d2-5fbf-42ce-b25d-607de8a4022a">Biden's dilemma</h2>In 2020, Biden won Nevada by a 50% to 48% margin over his GOP rival, similar to the 2.4-point edge that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton enjoyed over Trump (47.9% to 45.5%) in 2016.But both results were a steep departure from Obama's robust 12.5- and nearly 7-point wins in 2008 and 2012.Biden will have to work hard to address some of the top concerns of Nevada voters: inflation, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-us-economy-would-look-like-with-trump-biden-presidency-2024-5">housing affordability</a>, and health care.And the president has his work cut out for him, as <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/05/13/us/elections/times-siena-poll-nevada-crosstabs.html">Trump is leading him in Nevada by a sizable margin in recent polling</a>.A New York Times/Siena College survey conducted from late April through early May showed Trump ahead Biden by a 12-point margin (50% to 38%) among registered voters in Nevada. When independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Green Party candidate Jill Stein are in the mix, Biden's support plummets to 27%, with Trump taking 41% and Kennedy Jr. at 12%, followed by Stein with 2% support.A plurality of Nevada voters (22%) listed the economy as their top issue, and a whopping 82% of voters said that the economy was "only fair" or "poor." Only 17% of Nevada voters rated the economy as "good" or "excellent." And by a 61% to 32% margin, Nevada voters believe Trump would be better at handling the economy.The Biden campaign has responded aggressively to tackle this narrative.The president visited Nevada in March <a target="_blank" href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/03/19/biden-campaign-affordable-housing-nevada-00147691">to make his pitch for boosting affordable housing</a>. The month before, he met with culinary workers — a highly influential voting bloc — while in Las Vegas. And Vice President Kamala Harris has traveled to Nevada four times this year, promoting the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and advocating for reproductive rights in an election where abortion will be a key issue.Another matter for Biden: The bipartisan infrastructure law is a huge accomplishment for his administration. Yet <a target="_blank" href="https://www.transportation.gov/sites/dot.gov/files/2022-01/BIL_Nevada.pdf">it will take years for many voters to see the results</a>, including the creation of jobs.Biden's biggest challenge is sharpening an economic message that voters will respond to across the country. And Nevada is increasingly looking like the place where he'll need to do it to stay in the White House.
