The witness, Prabhakar Sail, openly stated on various TV channels that he feared a threat to his life from none other than the NCB Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede. The NCB has taken cognisance of the allegations of threats and bribes and a top official said that the matter will be probed. Sail, identified as the personal bodyguard of the so-called private detective Kiran P. Gosavi, has released a signed affidavit statement and videos pertaining to the arrest of Aryan Khan and others on October 3, a day after the ship raid (October 2). One of the 9 witnesses listed by the NCB, among other things, Sail claimed that he was made to sign 10 blank papers by the agency and now feared for his life from Wankhede. In the affidavit, Sail has contended that he "overheard" Gosavi and Sam D'Souza discuss a deal of Rs 24 crore which they "settled" for Rs 18 crore, of which Rs 8 crore would got to Wankhede. He said that he saw SRK's manager, Pooja Dadlani arrive at the NCB office after Aryan Khan's arrest and also witnessed her talking with Gosavi and D'Souza inside her vehicle. Sail alleged that Gosavi directed him to collect Rs 50 lakh cash from a spot near the Indiana Hotel and asked him to give the bags to D'Souza near the Trident Hotel where he counted it to find Rs 38 lakh cash. Reacting to the allegations, NCB Deputy Director-General, South West Region Mutha Ashok Jain said that Wankhede has "categorically denied" the allegations. "As some of the contents of the affidavit relate to vigilance matters, I am hereby forwarding the affidavit to the Director General, NCB and requesting him for further necessary action," Jain said. Simultaneously, chiding Sail, Jain said that since he is a witness in the case which is now sub-judice, "he needs to submit his prayer to the honourable court rather than through social media if he has anything to say". He also said that Sail has given details about his movements and activities on October 2 (on the day of the ship raid), and "vigilance related allegations against certain persons in the affidavit which are based on overhearing" by the witness. In the affidavit, Sail stated that Gosavi is missing and feared that the NCB officials or other people may abduct or kill him. Gosavi, who is facing several cases, shot to focus earlier this month when Nationalist Congress Party national spokesperson and Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik made a series of exposes involving him (Gosavi) and other BJP-linked persons like Manish Bhanushali, in the NCB raids. With the lockdown, more and more people opened up to experimenting with different digital content platforms and Eros Now, which also on-boarded around 6.9 million paid subscribers during the lockdown months now want to ensure their users get something extra on their platform. “Our strategy is actually quite simple, we will roughly look at one movie premiere every week and we will also look at 1-2 big budget originals. India is a diverse country and its difficult to predict what people like to watch. Hence, we will offer a combination of content like originals that will drive the younger audiences who have the propensity to pay a subscription price, leading to more episodic behavior. We will also have movie premieres of theatrical scale that will create a deeper penetration both among regional and mass audiences.” The platform has also launched a campaign - #KahaaniHarRangKi, based on insights derived from Eros Now’s proprietary user data, and is customized to satisfy the demand of Eros Now’s target audience in the Indian and global diaspora. Factors that gave a boost to Eros Now The lockdown has led to a behavioural change where consumers no longer mind spending on content that they like. However, there is a lot of clutter in the OTT space with many global players spending big bucks on both content and promotions. So what are the factors that have helped Eros Now woo consumers and bring them to their platform? “When new content was not being launched on television, people started sampling content on different platforms. People realized that Eros Now had a rich collection of movies including Badlapur, Tanu Weds Manu, Bajirao Mastani etc and then suddenly people started watching movies sequentially. So films is one of the core areas where we differentiate ourselves because the rest of the ecosystem is a combination of maybe Hollywood and some Indian originals. But the largest slate of films is only available on Eros Now. So a lot of people broke the inertia and went through the learning curve of understanding how to use the platforms. Secondly, we kept launching a lot of packaging. We resurfaced some of the older catalog with interesting mash-ups. It was more about remarketing to our customers in terms of the depth of the catalog and that enabled discovery. We also did a few shows which were completely shot during the lockdown and those did well too,” explained Hussein. Eros Now had also removed the paywall in the initial days of the lockdown which also helped introduce a lot of new users to the platform, he added. Apart from providing varied content, Eros Now has also been strengthening its technology side to ensure that consumers get the best experience, which is also ensuring long-term stickiness. Eros Now’s expansion plans The platform has been steadily building its global presence and is already available in the US, UK and Canada through Apple TV Channels. It is also available in China and the Middle East and Southeast Asia. “We've been spending a lot of time and resource in aggregating international audiences and that will continue to be a significant trend for us as a brand,” he shared. He also added that owning to the popularity of Indian content in markets like the Middle East or Southeast Asia, the next step is looking at how we get more local. “Our aim would not be to take our learnings and data sciences to maybe develop more crossover or hybrid programming for these markets and become more local. That will be a big theme for us in 2021, getting into 2022,” he said. On what his overarching focus is going to be for the upcoming year, to take Eros Now to the next level, Hussein said, “One clear area of focus for us is going to be technology, because that's a clear differentiator of how we operate and distinguish ourselves in the ecosystem. Secondly, we will keep focusing on our content. Along with the announcement of our content slate for 2021, we will also have a few more announcements for the first half of 2021, when we will talk about our studio slate. Also, due to our merger with <keyword id="10417540" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="stx-filmworks">STX Filmworks</keyword>, we will be bringing a fairly interesting strategy on English programming on Eros Now, which is a first for us.  Pati Patni Aur Woh is Kartik Aryan’s best opening day ever. Luka Chuppi’s first day collections stood ₹8 crore whereas that of Pyaar ka Punchnama 2 and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety were at ₹6 crore. Both these movies went on to be superhits that established him in the industry. He is one of the busiest actors today and bagged the sequels of two hit franchises — Love Aaj Kal 2 and Bhool Bhulaiya 2. Pati Patni Aur Woh itself is a remake of BR Chopra’s 1978 film where Abhinav Chintu Tyagi struggles to balance his married life and an affair. Last week, Ashutosh Gowariker’s magnum opus Panipat starring Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon-- also released. The movie which depicts the third battle of Panipat in 1761 however registered a slow start. It made ₹4 crore on its opening day and ₹5.78 crore on the second and its total weekend collections were at ₹18 crore. Panipat’s total box office collection is almost the half of Pati Patni Aur Woh. Panipat narrates the story of Marathas and Ahmad Shah Abdali — the ruler of Afghanistan.
