The Chief Minister of Delhi, Mr. <keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword>, in his Independence Day speech has announced that <keyword id="46888" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="DTC">DTc</keyword> and cluster Bus ride will be made free for Women after the festival of Bhai Duj i.e. 29th October onwards. The Delhi government has said it will make public transport free for women in the national capital, citing safety reasons. Women in the national capital can travel free in state-run DTC buses as well as the Delhi Metro, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Monday. The new rules are expected to go into effect in the next two to three months. The concerned departments have reportedly been asked to submit a report on ridership within a week, he told the media. "On all DTC buses, cluster buses and metro trains women will be allowed to travel free of cost so that they have a safe travel experience and can access modes of transport which they were not able to, due to high prices. Public transport has been considered the safest mode of travel,” Kejriwal said at a press conference. However, he urged all the women — who are able to afford the tickets — to make a voluntary contribution by purchasing one.

 The CM said that <keyword id="3977110" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="cleanliness-and-sanitation">cleanliness and sanitation</keyword> in the city is not under his direct control since the corporations are responsible for these works. He asked people to vote for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Delhi-govt-wants-to-make-sure-Uber-Ola-cabs-come-with-fixed-price-band/articleshow/51922823.cms">AAP</a> in municipal polls so that he can make sure that these corporations do their work. 
 
"If AAP gets control, I promise to clean up Delhi like never before," he added. 
 
"Before AAP came to power, the government didn't carry out sewer works in unauthorised colonies. But we changed that as human beings live even in these colonies. Apart from laying sewers, we are working on regularisation. We sent the file to the Centre a year ago, but decision on it has been delayed. The high court has ordered the Centre to speed up the matter," Kejriwal said. 
 
Highlighting what he has done for Delhi in fields of education and health, he said that his government has brought change in the form of improved infrastructure and quality in these sectors.

He said it would initially be an experiment, but could be put to use, if proven worthwhile. 
 
"We are going to start it on a pilot basis. The people of Delhi will form the budget. To start with, we begin with going to five to ten constituencies, where people will be brought together and form a budget according to their needs," Kejriwal said in the Delhi assembly today. 
 
His government is also all-set to begin work on their promised 70-point agenda, which includes providing free Wi-Fi, free water to every household<del cite="mailto:richa.sharma2" datetime="2015-02-24T22:29">,</del> and substantially reducing power bills for the city’s bereaved citizens. 
 
 
Kejriwal also took the opportunity of his first speech at the assembly today<del cite="mailto:richa.sharma2" datetime="2015-02-24T22:28">,</del> to announce yet another ‘new experiment’ with an aim to create greater bureaucratic efficiency within the system. He said, "We will aim to set a target for every department and the officer who comes up with the best plan to meet the target will be granted a posting. This will improve efficiency and productivity in bureaucracy." 
 
Kejriwal, who took over as the Chief Minister of Delhi on February 14, also reached out to all 70 lawmakers in the state, which includes three BJP MLAs, urging them to provide him with productive feedback on the water situation in their respective constituencies. He promised to work on the feedback. 
 All the 67 MLAs of the <keyword id="1462125" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aam-Admi-Party">Aam Admi party</keyword> have been instructed by the chief minister to set-up offices in their local constituencies, and meet people every day between 9 am and 11 am to discuss their problems. 
 
Kejriwal decided not to hold any portfolios, to better connect with the people on the ground. He too, plans to set up a similar office in his New Delhi constituency to meet people on a daily basis. Four of his MLAs will brief Kejriwal everyday on the feedback collected from all the 70 constituencies of Delhi.

 Sample this: Prashant Bhushan alleged that AAP leader <keyword id="1127624" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ashish-Khetan">Ashish Khetan</keyword> wrote ‘paid news’ in 2011 in favour of a company accused in the infamous 2G scam for Rs 2 cr. He alleged that Khetan was rewarded for his crony-capitalist behaviour by being appointed as the chairperson of the Delhi Dialogue Commission and a member of the NDC. Bhushan also accused AAP secretary and NDC member Pankaj Gupta of accepting ‘donation’ worth Rs 2 cr from shell companies without the required approval of the PAC. 
 Then there are allegations by Gajendra Singh’s brother yesterday that the farmer went to the rally only after speaking to <keyword id="6356176" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="deputy-chief-minister">deputy chief minister</keyword> Manish Sisodia. Vijendra Singh, Gajendra’s brother spoke to the media, post Gajendra’s last rites and said, “Gajendra had gone to meet Manish Sisodia after they won the elections. Even yesterday, when I spoke to him, he said that he is going to a rally. Manish Sisodia knew him. Manish Sisodia has called him for the rally.” He even went onto say that thought they have suffered crop damages this year due to untimely rains, it wasn't bad enough for his brother to have taken his own life. Gajendra's sister in a different interview told channels and showed the difference in Gajendra's 'actual' handwriting and the one that appeared on the 'suicide note' that Gajendra apparently had written. 
 So, even as allegations flow thick and fast, could this just be a propaganda push gone wrong, a tragic incident or a deliberate, nevertheless extremely shocking stunt planned to take the attention off AAP’s internal ‘mess’? This, even as Kejriwal gave ‘soundbytes’ to most television channels this morning apologising and saying ‘sorry’ for the thousandth time for a political miss-step that he so often seems to have committed. He said, “I admit it was a mistake continuing with the rally and my speech even as Gajendra committed suicide.” Really Mr Kejriwal! You mean to say this realization dawned on you a full three days after the incident, while you ignited fire upon fire against the central government and the <keyword id="6358992" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Delhi-Police">Delhi Police</keyword>, showcasing their inept attitude towards a <keyword id="166238" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="poor-farmer">poor farmer</keyword> who was trying to commit suicide in the full glare of several thousand people, which included you! 
 Well played indeed, because two things have happened in the political sphere as a result of Kejriwal’s actions. One, <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> and his government for the time being will have to put its ambitious land bill in the back burner (though it doesn’t make the slightest difference to AAP and its political mantras, and I am not even getting into the debate of whether the land bill is pro or against farmers). Modi, in fact has already sought suggestions from all political parties to better the ‘farmer’s lives’. Second, the entire nation’s media and its citizens are now focusing their energies away from ‘AAP’s internal ‘dramatics’ and actually getting down to discussing the serious issues of the plight of the farmers and their future in a nation where they form over 67% of the population. 
 
However, what Kejriwal will need to do now is think very seriously over how many times he can ‘use’ the ‘sorry tactic’ to score a political point to his advantage. Because, Mr Kejriwal, it is this very public that you have been enticing with the shortcomings of the other governments that will turn around and ask you about where you fell short. Because if the public is ‘accepting’, it is also very ‘unforgiving’ if you take it for a ride! Now, you of all people would surely understand that very well, won’t you?

A day after a <keyword id="48857" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Farmer">farmer</keyword>, <keyword id="27515" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Gajendra-Singh">Gajendra Singh</keyword> shockingly committed suicide in view of thousands, the government has been under attack from what appears to be a united opposition. So much so that the <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword>, <keyword id="460622" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narnedra-modi">Narnedra Modi</keyword> was forced to speak in the <keyword id="6355187" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword>, following <keyword id="6000" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Home-Minister">Home Minister</keyword> <keyword id="6355121" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Rajnath-Singh">Rajnath Singh</keyword>’s address in the same house. Modi said that there was nothing more important than a farmer’s life, a human’s life. He has sought suggestions from all political parties to better the destitute situation the farmers are in today. 
Here are the latest updates in the matter. 
 
1) The PM said the issue of farmer suicides had been a matter of great concern for years and asked political parties to work together to find a solution. "It should be our determination to find a solution to this problem. The government will accept all suggestions," he said. 
2) The PM spoke after Home Minister Rajnath Singh made a statement on the issue. Lawmakers from several parties had during a discussion, demanded that the PM, who was not present in the House in the morning, make a statement. 3) In his statement, Singh backed the <keyword id="6358992" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Delhi-Police">Delhi Police</keyword>, accused by Delhi Chief Minister <keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword> and other leaders of his party of not attempting to save the farmer, who was on the tree for some time before he hanged himself. 
4) "Policemen at the spot alerted the control room and asked a fire tender with a long ladder, so that this person on the tree could be brought down," the Home Minister said while replying to a discussion in the Lok Sabha. He said he has ordered the Delhi Police to conduct a time-bound investigation into the Rajasthan farmer's death. 
5) The Congress' Mallikarjun Kharge demanded a judicial inquiry into the farmer's death, saying "police inquiry won't be unbiased because they are at fault too." 
6) During the discussion, the Trinamool Congress' Saugata Roy said, "Instead of a tweet, the PM can come to the House and make a statement." Communist leader MB Brijesh said, "This isn't suicide, this is homicide... I would like to ask the PM to come out of Twitter and come see the ground reality... this is happening throughout the country." 
7) "Make farmers independent... Provide them with facilities and then there will be no need to move around the world," said Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, apparently hinting at the Prime Minister who has actively sought foreign investments during his trips abroad. 
8) PM Modi had on Wednesday tweeted, "Gajendra's death has saddened the Nation. We are all deeply shattered &amp; disappointed. Condolences to his family." This morning, he was briefed on the farmer's death by top ministers including Rajnath Singh. 
9) A discussion hasn't begun yet in the Rajya Sabha, which has been adjourned twice since morning among noisy protests by the opposition. 10) There have been protests outside Parliament; with Congress workers burning effigies of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The Congress' Randeep Singh Surjewala accused Kejriwal of "cruelty" for continuing with the <keyword id="6356115" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="AAP">AAP</keyword> rally even after the farmer hanged himself. The AAP chief has been attacked by several political parties for making a speech.

In one of the most shocking and ridiculous political developments today, a <keyword id="48857" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Farmer">farmer</keyword> committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in the presence of <keyword id="6399360" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Delhi-chief-Minister">Delhi Chief Minister</keyword> <keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword> at the Aam Aadmi Party's rally here against the <keyword id="87979" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Land-Bill">land bill</keyword>. At the time of the incident, there were more than few thousand farmers, numerous <keyword id="6356115" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="AAP">AAP</keyword> supporters as well as several policemen present at the rally. 
 The man, identified as <keyword id="27515" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Gajendra-Singh">Gajendra Singh</keyword>, climbed the tree as top AAP leaders were present at the Jantar Mantar, a stone's throw from Parliament, and hanged himself with a 'gamcha' (towel). As some people climbed up to save him, the branch gave away and he fell. 
 He was rushed to nearby RML hospital in a police jeep. Doctors there said that he was "brought <keyword id="6358947" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Dead">dead</keyword>". 
 
A purported suicide note was recovered from the spot in which he mentioned that he is a farmer and his crops have been destroyed. He has also wrote his family's contact number. The incident occurred at around 2 pm in the presence of Kejriwal prompting senior AAP leaders to allege that it was an attempt to "sabotage" the rally and slammed the police for being "mute spectators". 
 
Kejriwal said, "We kept asking the police to bring him down. Police may not be in our control but at least there should be a semblance of humanity among them. I am rushing to the hospital with Manish Sisodia". 
 
After his speech, the chief minister reached the hospital but Singh was already declared dead. 
 
Congress leader Sachin Pilot termed the death shameful for the public and for India. "Strong message needs to be given to our farmers that we are there to help." 
 
Pilot, however, said that no one from the rally actually tried to stop or save him (farmer). "The rally continued despite the incident." 
 
Delhi Congress leader Ajay Maken termed the death as unfortunate. "The organisers and the police could have been more alert." 
 Congress Vice President <keyword id="5268" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Rahul-Gandhi">Rahul Gandhi</keyword> visited the hospital, where the dead body of the farmer was kept and made a statement to the media standing outside saying, "I want to take this opportunity to assure all our farmer friends that they shouldnot lose hope of feel scared. We are with them and will continue to support their cause.'

Shocking and ridiculous! Farmer commits suicide at AAP rally in front of dozens of policemen, Delhi CM and thousands of farmers

NEW DELHI: The <keyword id="6354944" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Aam-Aadmi-Party">Aam Aadmi Party</keyword> found itself in an embarrassing position when <keyword id="6408414" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Shazia-Ilmi">Shazia Ilmi</keyword>, its senior member and party candidate from Ghaziabad, was seen in a video telling Muslims that they should stop being “secular” while casting their vote and be “communal” in these elections. 
 “Muslims are too secular. Muslims will have to be communal for the first time. Muslims are not communal, they do not vote for their own. <keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword> is our own,” Ilmi is heard telling a group of Muslims in a room. The 79-second clip was ostensibly shot when Shazia was in Mumbai recently. 
 
Faced with a barrage of criticism over Shazia Ilmi’s purported remarks, the Aam Aadmi Party refused to defend her, saying there was no place in the party for such sentiments. 
 Ilmi’s video went viral on Tuesday and the party promptly distanced itself from the comments. An official statement from <keyword id="6356115" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="AAP">AAP</keyword> said that it “does not believe in this kind of politics nor do we endorse it. All our representatives should be careful in their choice of words so that there is no scope for misinterpretation”. 
 
Senior party leader Manish Sisodia tweeted, “I’ve seen Shazia's clip. She should have not said it. AAP does not believe in communal politics. Our politics is to unite all Indians.” 
 In the video, Ilmi is heard saying, “So far we have been making <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> win. Don’t be so secular. Think of your interests this time. Muslims are secular and vote for everyone. Other parties do not do this. They have a set vote bank. Our votes are constantly getting divided. Think of your self this time.” 
 
Individuals in the clip are seen to be nodding at Ilmi’s remarks. One person adds that Muslims are often responsible for turning the tide in an election even though they are victimized. “Dare bhi hum aur jitaye bhi hum lekin malai khaye koi aur (We are used as a vote bank but also forced to live in fear. Meanwhile others reap benefits),” the clip shows him saying. 
 
To this, Ilmi, says that this time they should change their strategy and ‘fight and win’. 
 While Ilmi’s remarks drew sharp and quick reaction on social media, a few said the AAP leader came through as “clueless”. Composer Vishal Dadlani, an AAP supporter, addressed BJP supporters on the issue. “I don't know if this is the full clip or not. But I will not defend it. In my view, both Hindu and Muslim communalists and fundamentalists are anti-national … However, unlike the RSS or the VHP, parent organizations of the BJP, this speech/instance is an aberration in AAP. India's benchmark indices hit fresh all-time intraday high today in a tepid session. 
 
At 02:20 p.m.; the 50-share index was at 6,588.65, up 5.15 points, or 0.08 per cent. It touched an all-time intraday high of 6,595.45 and a low of 6,544.85 in trade today. 
 The S&amp;P BSE <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> was at 22,061.36, up 5.88 points or 0.03 per cent. It touched an all-time high of 22,079.96 and a low of 21,916.87 in trade today. 
 Stock market analysts are all fervent about the fact that the current market rally is being driven on hopes of a stable government post coming elections, but <keyword id="6355261" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Finance-minister">Finance Minister</keyword> <keyword id="43940" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="P-Chidambaram">P Chidambaram</keyword> finds this amusing. 
 
"I am amused to read in some sections of the media that it is the 'hope' of a stable government that is bringing in investments and driving up the capital market and the value of the rupee," the finance minister was quoted as saying by PTI. 
 "It's not 'hope', but the 'fact' of a stable government provided by the UPA and the numerous measures taken in the last 18 months that have provided stability and strength to the <keyword id="6356076" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="indian-economy">Indian economy</keyword>," he said. 
 
Chidambaram said this on a campaign rally in support of his son Karti in Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu. 
 
"If there is any hope that is driving the market, I believe it is the hope that the new government will follow the 10-point agenda that I had spelt out in my Interim Budget speech on 17.2.2014". 
 
"I can assure the people and the investors that a Congress-led government will faithfully implement the ten-point agenda". 
 Talkign about the recent market rally, William De Vijlder, CIO-Strategy, BNP Paribas Investment Partners told ET Now: "Ever since there was talk that Mr <keyword id="6354642" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Modi">Modi</keyword> would play a key role in the political landscape going forward in India, of course the market has reacted to that positively. So, I can only say that there has been quite a bit of anticipation already and that means that if he comes out of the elections as a strong man, then the first 100 days, the honeymoon days, will be very important.” 
 
“What will be absolutely crucial in an environment where there has been a lot of anticipation already, is that the decisions which are announced and measures which are taken, they are sufficiently ambitious and also credible,” he added. 
 
"Since last July, day upon day, polls have been suggesting a stable government at the Centre and added has added to the market momentum besides other factors ... we expect this rally to continue for some more time till the elections are due. So, anything in the range of 6,900 is what we expect," Ravi Muthukrishnan, ICICI Securities, told ET Now today. 
 
Says Sudip Bandyopadhyay, President, Destimoney Securities, "there is an expectation of a stable government after a long-long time which people are expecting will deliver the goods, but there are still some uncertainties in the horizon." 
 
LKP Securities said in a note today: "with the general expectations of a stable government, the rally has legs of improvement." 
 
The S&amp;P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.57 per cent and the S&amp;P BSE Smallcap Index was 0.14 per cent higher. 
 
Among the sectoral indices, the S&amp;P BSE Capital goods Index was up 1.35 per cent, the S&amp;P BSE Power Index advanced 1.79 per cent and the S&amp;P BSE Bankex Index was 0.50 per cent higher. 
 
The S&amp;P BSE Oil &amp; gas Index fell 1.78 per cent, the S&amp;P BSE IT Index was 0.49 per cent lower and the S&amp;P BSE Healthcare Index slipped 0.02 per cent. 
 Shares of Reliance Industries were and ONGC under pressure after the Election Commission asked the <keyword id="46040" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Oil-ministry">Oil Ministry</keyword> to defer the increase in gas prices that was to take effect from April 1, saying that the decision should be left to the government that's formed after the general election, with the Aam Aadmi Party's <keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword> taking credit for the move. 
 
The decision will put consumers and producers such as Reliance Industries and ONGC in a quandary because the hike has been stalled after the oil ministry's notification that the new rates would apply from the start of next month.

 Reliance Industries (2.87 per cent), ONGC (1.76 per cent), <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword> (1.66 per cent), Sesa Sterlite (1.12 per cent) and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (0.77 per cent) were among the index losers. 
 
The market breadth was negative on the BSE with 1148 gainers against 1605 losers. 
 Foreign institutional investors bought shares worth Rs 1465.62 crore while domestic institutional investors were net sellers worth Rs 770.39 croreon Monday as per the provisional data from the <keyword id="53581" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="NATIONAL-STOCK-EXCHANGE">National Stock Exchange</keyword>.

Markets Make New High; Chidambaram Mocks Experts, Says It's UPA Rally

NEW DELHI: Those who were there will always remember the sea of heads with white caps, tricolours fluttering in the winter wind and the sparkle of hope on every <keyword id="6354944" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Aam-Aadmi-Party">Aam Aadmi Party</keyword> supporter's face at the packed Ramlila Maidan on Saturday. For them, it wasn't just a swearing-in ceremony; it was an open-air party of the common folk, a showtime for people's power. 
 And the speech that their <keyword id="19496" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="leader">leader</keyword> <keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword>, the new <keyword id="5269" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Chief-Minister">chief minister</keyword> of Delhi, delivered after the swearing-in ceremony was no ordinary speech either. For him, this was a "tryst with destiny" moment. And he seemed to be speaking straight from the heart when he declared, "The politics of this country had destroyed everything but in these assembly elections the people have shown that honest politics is possible. Elections can be fought with honesty and won with honesty." The crowd, about 80,000 inside and outside the venue, cheered in approval. 
 Many of them had come from far and wide: Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, <keyword id="6358126" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Himachal-Pradesh">Himachal Pradesh</keyword>, Rajasthan, <keyword id="30033" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Bihar">Bihar</keyword>, Telangana, <keyword id="20154" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword> and elsewhere. School teacher Nimma Jairam Reddy, 44, travelled for 28 hours from Medak district in Telangana. "In the past 60 years, the difference between the aam aadmi and the amir aadmi has grown. To end it, traditional politics must die and be replaced with moral and modern politics which Kejriwal represents," he said. 
 
Kejriwal's speech was politically mature, and marked by clarity of thought. He spoke of announcing a phone number in two days – a complaint hotline to catch bribe-givers red-handed. He also assuaged fears of the honest bureaucrat. "Today many people tell me, Arvindji, stay alert, because bureaucracy would not let you succeed. I don't believe this. Over the past few days, I have met some Delhi bureaucrats. I have no hesitation in saying that if some people are corrupt, there are several who are highly upright and want to serve the nation," he said. 
 He also urged his partymen too to stay on the right path. "I request my party ministers, MLAs and workers to never be conceited and arrogant. Our struggle will go waste if our MLAs and ministers become arrogant. <keyword id="6356115" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="AAP">AAP</keyword> was formed to overthrow the arrogant parties and I don't want another party to come up to put an end to our arrogance. Even when our volunteers go to mohallas and colonies, they should be humble since we are desh sewaks. We didn't come here to become chief ministers or ministers but to serve the country and we should never forget that we are sewaks." 
 
The anti-graft activist also spoke about the crushing burden of raised expectations. "Sometimes I am very scared as people have pinned their hopes on us and I pray to God to give us courage and keep us on right track so that we don't commit any mistake." 
 
Towards the end of his speech, Kejriwal urged the crowd to take an oath against bribes. Most joined him in this moment of public engagement in the process to bring about positive social change. 
 S Selvaraj was among those who did. He came from a village near the famous Kolli Malai hills in Tamil Nadu. It was a 72-hour <keyword id="6374782" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="journey">journey</keyword> first by bullock cart, followed by bus and train. "I like his concepts of humility and simplicity in politics. That's why I am here," he said. Others spoke of having taken leave from office, even left behind an ailing child, to be there because it was "an extraordinary day" for them. 
 This looked like a real crowd of party workers and common people; not the paid hordes who often arrive in truckloads at political gatherings. This was also a far more relaxed crowd than what had gathered during <keyword id="57766" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Anna-Hazare">Anna Hazare</keyword>'s fast at the same venue in 2011. 
 
A banner indicated the people's mood: Free hugs for Aam Aadmi, it said. No surprise, some supporters carried posters of the film, Nayak, where the hero becomes a chief minister for a day. But they had replaced Anil Kapoor's mug with Kejriwal's. It was evident he was their rock star. 
 
 
 Kejriwal, who had trounced <keyword id="39794" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sheila-Dixit">Sheila Dixit</keyword> in the polls, also took care to name gods of different religions while hailing the win as a miracle (kudrat ka karishma). He thanked "parampita parmeshwar, parmatma, ishwar, allah and wahe guru" for the triumph. Even while paying tribute to late colleague <keyword id="1246005" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="Santosh-Koli">Santosh Koli</keyword>, he said, "Hindu dharma says that while the body perishes, the soul is immortal. Today, if Santosh's soul can see us or hear us, it will be happy to know that her sacrifice did not go waste." 
 
The gods seem to be smiling on Kejriwal, in any case. In a week when the national capital was often blanketed by grey, unsympathetic clouds, the sun shone brightly on Saturday. There couldn't have been a better day to attend a political gathering or play Test cricket. 
 
Times View : A beautiful moment for our precious democracy 
 
No one could have imagined at the beginning of 2013, or even six months ago, that Arvind Kejriwal would return to the Ramlila Maidan, two and a half years after Anna's big anti-corruption fast, to take oath as chief minister before the year was out. This has been a peaceful political revolution of epic proportions – and we, as a nation, should feel proud. Kejriwal may be the man of the moment, but this not about him – or any one person. This is about the idea of India. We have been called a flawed democracy, and indeed there are times when a sense of hopelessness takes over; but it's also the flaws that help us appreciate beauty when it shines through. There is no greater beauty on earth than to behold the will of the people be given voice without having to resort to violence. So let us pause for a moment to cherish the precious, and yes imperfect, beauty of our democracy. 
 For Kejriwal, the real challenge – of governance – begins now. He has changed the rules of the game, playing the role of an outsider with consummate political savvy. Whether his 'movement' can go national will depend on how wisely he runs Delhi. It will also depend on whether the <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword>, having extended support, is willing to give him a fair chance. Its decision to boycott the swearing-in ceremony does not bode well for the future. The party that helped give us this beauty we call democracy should know that it has diminished itself by its churlishness. It should also know that a little grace never hurt, even in politics.
