<ul class="summary-list"><li>Several "Bachelor" stars have responded to backlash after receiving coronavirus relief loans.</li><li><keyword id="9837039" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="tayshia-adams">Tayshia Adams</keyword>, <keyword id="8938789" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="colton-underwood">Colton Underwood</keyword>, and <keyword id="4982725" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="arie-luyendyk-jr">Arie Luyendyk Jr</keyword>. all received loans over $10,000.</li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/paycheck-protection-program-extended-what-owners-need-to-know-2020-7">Paycheck Protection Program loans</a> are meant to help keep small businesses afloat amid the pandemic.</li></ul><p>"Bachelor" stars Tayshia Adams and Colton Underwood have responded after coming under fire for receiving <a href="https://www.sba.gov/funding-programs/loans/covid-19-relief-options/paycheck-protection-program">PPP loans meant to keep small businesses afloat</a> during the coronavirus pandemic. </p><p>In a <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2021/06/28/bachelor-stars-colton-underwood-tayshia-adams-received-ppp-loans/">statement to TMZ</a>, Adams' representative said, "As a business owner, television and podcast host, and brand ambassador, Tayshia obtained a PPP Loan that enabled her to hire an employee, to whom she offers market-based pay and benefits."</p><p>Adams' rep corroborated their previous statement in an email to Insider.</p><p>"Tayshia used the loan to hire someone who was previously unemployed by a media company and has continued to offer them market rate with benefits after using the loan in full on said employee," they wrote. </p><p>Underwood's representative offered a similar response to TMZ, telling the outlet that it was Underwood's nonprofit (the <a href="https://www.coltonslegacy.org/">Colton Underwood Legacy Foundation</a>, which supports people with cystic fibrosis) that applied for the loan, following the cancellation of fundraising events during the pandemic. </p><p>"None of the PPP went directly to Colton," the statement to TMZ said. "In fact, Colton has never received any form of payment from the foundation, all of the proceeds go directly to people living with cystic fibrosis." </p><p>Representatives for Underwood didn't immediately respond to Insider's requests for additional comment.</p><h2>Several 'Bachelor' stars came under fire for receiving <keyword id="9789072" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="ppp-loans">PPP loans</keyword></h2><p>Adams and Underwood, as well as former "Bachelor" Arie Luyendyk, Jr., his wife Lauren Burnham, and "Bachelorette" alum <keyword id="11538914" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="dale-moss">Dale Moss</keyword> received backlash after <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/thebachelor/comments/o8r42y/arie_and_lauren_received_20k_in_ppp_loansyikes/">"Bachelor" subreddit members</a> discovered that the stars had applied for PPP loans. </p><p>Per the US Small Business Administration's <a href="https://www.sba.gov/funding-programs/loans/covid-19-relief-options/paycheck-protection-program">website</a>, Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans were designed to help small businesses keep workers employed during the pandemic. </p><p>Reddit users <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/thebachelor/comments/o8r42y/arie_and_lauren_received_20k_in_ppp_loansyikes/">discovered Monday that Luyendyk, Jr. and Burnham received over $20,000</a> in loans for their LLC, Instagram Husband. </p><p>Redditors also realized that <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/thebachelor/comments/o8sw4q/tayshia_received_a_20k_ppp_loan_for_influencing/">Adams</a> and <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/thebachelor/comments/o9ai1c/looks_like_colton_got_a_ppp_loan_too/">Underwood</a> had received similar loans as well. Moss also <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/thebachelor/comments/o97b7r/dale_received_a_20k_ppp_loan/">applied for a $20,000 loan</a>, but his funds don't appear to have been disbursed yet.</p><p>Representatives for Moss and Burnham didn't immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment. Luyendyk, Jr.'s representative declined to comment. </p><p>After news of the loans began spreading on social media, fans and other "Bachelor" alums weighed in. </p><p>Jason Tartick, who appeared on Becca Kufrin's season of "<keyword id="914894" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="The-Bachelorette">The Bachelorette</keyword>" and is currently engaged to franchise alum and host Kaitlyn Bristowe, broke down the significance of the PPP loans in <a href="https://www.instagram.com/tv/CQru3vqHoAF/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link">an Instagram video</a>. Tartick said he almost applied for a loan himself, but didn't end up going through with it because he believes it's "not fair." </p><p>"Bachelor in Paradise" alum Chris Bukowski wrote in an <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/thebachelor/comments/o9w4zj/chris_bukowskis_comment_on_a_post_about_the_whole/">Instagram comment on TMZ's post about the PPP loan controversy</a> that the system was "broken."</p><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/bachelor-nick-viall-felt-pressure-to-find-love-on-show-2021-4">Former "Bachelor" star Nick Viall</a> addressed the story in a tweet, writing "What's legal isn't always right." </p><p>"Applying for a PPP is both savvy and sh-tty," he concluded.</p>

I was the winner of "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-it-cost-to-be-on-the-bachelor-2022-3">The Bachelor</a>" in 2018 and said yes when Arie Luyendyk Jr. asked me to marry him. After he broke my heart on screen, I became "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/bachelorette-where-are-they-now-2016-8">The Bachelorette</a>" later that year and got engaged to Garrett Yrigoyen. When we broke up two years later, I appeared on "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/bachelor-in-paradise-season-9-cast-premiere-date-trailer-2023-8">Bachelor In Paradise</a>." That's where I met my current husband, Thomas Jacobs, who I proposed to.</p><p>Despite the turmoil, I've always felt loved. I was very lucky growing up with a loving, supportive family. I've always had an abundance of love and kindness shown to me.</p><p>Luckily, when <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/bachelor-couples-still-together-2018-7">I met Thomas</a>, I recognized that he was raised the same way. He showers love on me, which makes it easy to show that same love, support, patience, and kindness to our 9-month-old son, Benson.</p><h2 id="afc1d80c-955f-4585-bcb3-dd48434f4488">I don't plan to talk with Benson about the shows</h2><p>I probably won't talk to Benson about my time on the shows, really. Not that he'll probably care as he gets older — I'm assuming he'll find it more embarrassing than anything.</p><p>Instead, I want to teach him <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/parenting/how-to-teach-empathy-to-kids">about relationships by example</a>. Kids learn what they see, so I'm mindful of setting a good example. Benson will see that Thomas and I show each other respect, kindness, patience, and grace. In time, he's going to learn from that. Hopefully, he'll develop kindness and love for our family and the whole world.</p><h2 id="1b03fa45-10bd-42da-be62-f1d29249e174">I ditched my timeline and discovered myself</h2><p>I wish I could go back and tell my younger self to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-catch-up-with-friends-spend-quality-time-things-do-2024-2">ditch the timeline</a>. It's easy to have goals for when you want to be married, have kids, buy a house, and all those things. But really, how that unfolds looks different for everybody. Go easy on yourself, go along for the ride, and let go of the pressure to check boxes.</p><p>When I was in my 20s, growing up in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moved-from-new-jersey-minnesota-worth-it-love-midwest-2023-9">small-town Minnesota</a>, I was so focused on finding a partner and settling down. I wanted to check all the boxes of what a traditional life should look like.</p><p>Instead, I found myself traveling and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/first-solo-trip-helped-fear-of-being-alone-2023-8">getting outside my comfort zone</a>. I experienced so many different things. Because of that, I could focus more on myself, finding what I really wanted and what was going to fill me up, like travel. By the time I had a baby and married at 33, I felt like I knew myself.</p><h2 id="818f519e-2764-4ddc-b92e-d9cf29a79b34">I've had to learn how to embrace a little bit of mess</h2><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/having-children-pushed-me-away-from-my-career-2022-4">Becoming a mom was a lot harder</a> than I expected. Everyone tells you that, but no one can prepare you for it. Just trying to keep a human alive was intense. I was so used to working from home and having autonomy, so bringing this little other human was a lot. So was navigating my body healing after birth and trying to breastfeed.</p><p>Before I had Benson I was so organized and tidy. I've had to let go of that a bit. I'm not sure how one child manages to produce so much mess. I'm constantly <a target="_blank" href="https://www.pampers.com/en-us/products/pampers-free-and-gentle-wipes">wiping down</a> Benson's hands, face, and everything around him. I'm hoping maybe it will rub off on him, and he'll become a neat freak like Mom.</p><p>The last five years have been a whirlwind, but I'm excited for the next five. I want to bring Thomas and Benson to meet my family in Croatia. We were married in a courthouse ceremony, so I'm excited to have a bigger wedding celebration with family and friends. I want to have another baby, a sibling for Benson. I love adventure and can't wait to see what comes next.</p>

Bachelorette Becca Kufrin: I've always felt loved, but I wish I hadn't pressured myself to get married and have children young.

People were not happy with the way the finale's big break-up was filmed, including former contestants. Some of those people <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/the-bachelor-finale-criticized-by-former-contestants-as-manipulative-2018-3">expressed their thoughts</a> on Twitter while the episode aired, begging for the hard-to-watch scenes to stop.  </span></p><p>After a season of low ratings and a rather bland bachelor in <span>Arie Luyendyk Jr.,</span> ABC was clearly desperate for a hit. So the network must have been filled with glee when Arie decided that Becca, who he chose as the winner and proposed to (she said yes), was not the woman for him. He suddenly decided he'd made the wrong decision, and said he wanted to get back together with Lauren, the runner-up. </p><p>Variety <a href="http://variety.com/2018/tv/news/bachelor-after-the-final-rose-ratings-1202720601/">reports</a> that the Nielsen ratings for the episode on Tuesday night remained steady compared to Monday's ratings. On Tuesday, "The Bachelor" averaged a 2.2 rating in adults 18-49 and 7.7 million viewers, compared to the 2.2 and 7.9 million it drew on Monday night, a season high. </p><p>In part two of the finale on Tuesday, Arie tried and succeeded to get Lauren back, who he had dumped in favor of Becca. Viewers raged against ABC for its manipulative 'The Bachelor' episode Monday night, but still tuned in Tuesday for part 2 of the finale

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Hannah Meloche moved to Hawaii; Logan Paul moved to Puerto Rico. </li><li>It's part of a growing trend of <keyword id="1112328" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Influencers">influencers</keyword> moving to tropical destinations full-time.</li><li>Some activists and residents say these moves could have long-term impacts on local communities.</li></ul><p>When <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBy4Hp3Klgg">Logan Paul said</a> he was moving to what's reportedly a <a href="https://nypost.com/2021/06/03/logan-paul-training-for-floyd-mayweather-fight-at-13m-mansion/">$13 million mansion</a> in the <a href="https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/2021/05/10391555/logan-paul-moving-puerto-rico-millionaires-tax-break">wealthy town of Dorado, Puerto Rico</a>, in February, many Puerto Ricans took to Twitter to say they <a href="https://twitter.com/lolamma30/status/1401787596947197957?s=20">were</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/jmrivera02/status/1389248736199577602?s=20">not</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/nataliarodmed/status/1362197220087517190?s=20">happy</a>. </p><p>He admitted in a podcast that he was moving to the island in part <a href="https://www.dexerto.com/entertainment/logan-paul-sparks-backlash-after-claiming-hes-moving-to-puerto-rico-over-taxes-1525594/">to avoid paying higher income taxes</a> and to take advantage of a lower cost of living. </p><p>The <a href="https://www.insider.com/logan-paul-podcast-controversies-drama-reputation-jake-2020-12">divisive influencer</a> was later introduced at a boxing match as a resident of Puerto Rico, prompting one viral tweet that said Paul's move would "exploit" the U.S. territory. </p><p>"In Puerto Rico, you're motivated to do more and make more money because of the implications that come with it," Paul <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBy4Hp3Klgg&amp;ab_channel=IMPAULSIVEClipslips">said</a> on an episode of his podcast. "I liken it to working smarter, not harder." Paul also said that before he went to "scout" out his new home, he thought it would be more "third world" than it was. </p><p>Paul, Hannah Meloche, and Kinsey Wolanski are among the big-name influencers who recently moved to popular tropical tourism destinations like Puerto Rico, <keyword id="118728" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="hawaii">Hawaii</keyword>, and Bali. </p><p>For government and tourism agencies, some of which collaborate directly with these creators in influencer-marketing campaigns, there is an economic incentive with the potential to bring in more visitors.</p><p>Puerto Rico has even passed legislation to encourage more foreigners to start a home there. <a href="https://www.ddec.pr.gov/en/puerto-rico-incentives-code/">Act 60 of the Puerto Rico Incentives Code</a>, a law that allows <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/theyec/2020/06/08/how-entrepreneurs-can-save-on-taxes-in-puerto-rico/?sh=25e5fd114cfc">entrepreneurs</a> to pay close to no income taxes for living in Puerto Rico for six months, was passed in 2019 to attract wealthy people and business owners in hopes of boosting the country's economic development. </p><p>But for activists and local residents, the long-term impact of these moves may mean that they struggle to feel prioritized by their leaders, according to the Abolish Act 60 Collective, a Puerto Rican organization that works to prevent wealthy individuals from moving to the island. </p><p>"What influencers are doing, it feels like they're taunting the natives, like they're getting away with something," a spokesperson for the collective, whose members are anonymous, told Insider. "There's a nation there, and it's not a playground for them. There are children and adults making their day-to-day livings."</p><h2>Hawaii has seen an influx in influencers as full-time residents </h2><p>In late January, 20-year old YouTuber Hannah Meloche, who has over 2 million subscribers, announced that she would be moving to Hawaii indefinitely, with plans to hop around rental homes with friends and take her college courses online. </p><p>Since then, her videos have reflected her day-to-day adventures, which include cliff jumping, helicopter rides, and surfing lessons with fellow influencers like Ava Jules, a Hawaii native and close friend of Meloche's, and many others from the continental US.</p><p>Of course, her Instagram account features no shortage of beach and bikini content, with hundreds of comments from envious fans. Meloche declined an interview request for this article. </p><p>Hawaii seems to be a popular spot for online influencers, including couples hoping to establish permanent homes or start families there.</p><p>TikTok influencers Matt and Abby Howard purchased a cottage in Oahu, Hawaii, in late January, while Arie Luyendyk Jr. and Lauren Burnham of "The Bachelor" franchise fame announced the purchase of their second home in Maui in April. Burnham is expecting twins, and the two said on social media that this new home will be the perfect place to raise them.</p><h2><strong>Government and tourism agencies see economic benefits </strong></h2><p>Tourism agencies are collaborating with some of these influencers as they see an economic boon from social-media marketing. </p><p>Ketut Supanca Ada, the owner and director of <keyword id="6354692" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Travel">travel</keyword> at Bali Customized Tours in Bali, Indonesia, told Insider he started collaborating with travel influencers five years ago when he saw the effectiveness of influencer marketing in bringing new visitors to the island.</p><p>His most notable collaboration is with travel influencer Christian LeBlanc, also known as Lost LeBlanc on YouTube, who recently signed a lease in Bali. LeBlanc did not respond to a request for comment. </p><p>Now, as more influencers like LeBlanc fall in love with the places that they visit, Ketut considers their moves a win-win - influencers are able to experience the beauty of Bali every single day and businesses like his are able to thrive because of them. </p><p>"Influencers are very good at promoting the island because they want to live here and they feel comfortable with the nature, <keyword id="24504" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="culture">culture</keyword>, and social life of Bali," he said. "We welcome whoever brings positivity and promotes our destinations."</p><p>Governments also often have a hand in destination marketing campaigns. In 2015, the Hawaii Visitors &amp; Convention Bureau launched the <a href="https://www.hawaiibusiness.com/turning-play-into-pay/">#LetHawaiiHappen campaign</a> on Instagram, utilizing the high reach of well-known travel influencers to inspire people to visit. </p><p>And it <a href="https://mediakix.com/blog/instagram-marketing-case-study-hawaii-tourism-campaign/">worked</a> - 65% of people who saw the campaign said they planned to visit the Hawaiian Islands in the next two years, according to Mediakix, an influencer marketing agency.<strong> </strong></p><h2><strong>Some locals say they are unhappy with their homes being exploited</strong></h2><p>Critics argue that influencer moves do little to boost local economies. And for locals, the idea of influencers becoming permanent residents of places they moved partly for new content can feel unnerving, according to Andrew J. Padilla, a researcher and educator who has <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-horrific-colonialist-costs-of-puerto-rican-us-statehood">written</a> about the effects of Puerto Rican colonization.</p><p>"Our economy is gearing people towards selling more and more of themselves, of their day-to-day experiences. The more influencers advertise how beautiful our home is, the more difficult it can be to remain there," Padilla told Insider.</p><p>The Abolish Act 60 Collective was established to educate Puerto Ricans on how bills like Act 60 allow wealthy individuals to profit off of the gradual privatization of the country, especially when it comes to avoiding paying high taxes.</p><div type="image" title="A red, white, and blue Puerto Rican flag waves in front of a blue sky." height="1414" width="1885" msid="84706985" hostid="261"></div><p>The collective said influencers establishing permanent homes in a place where local elders are fighting to keep their pensions is not only disrespectful but unwelcome by the native community. </p><p>"When you have people who are not paying taxes on the same social infrastructure that everybody uses, it's of course going to create a detriment on those structures," the collective's spokesperson said.  </p><p>Padilla also argues that there's a permanent impact that ripples through the community when foreigners settle in.</p><p>"That doesn't mean that influencers are bad people," Padilla told Insider. "In Puerto Rico's context, if you're an influencer and you're trying to get people to move to a U.S. colony, you're asking people to become colonial settlers. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>ABC</span></p><p class="caption">Becca won 'The Bachelor,' but got dumped weeks later.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>When you think of successful contestants on "The Bachelor," you might think of a blonde cheerleader named Lauren, from California, in her early twenties.</p><p>But you would be wrong.</p><p>While there are quite a lot of those who appear on the show and get pretty far, they are not the most likely candidate to win "The Bachelor."</p><p>That honor would go to Jennifer, 36, a nurse from Atlanta.</p><p>This is all according to <a href="https://www.homes.com/">Homes.com</a>, which conducted an in-depth statistical breakdown to figure out who the perfect candidate on "The Bachelor" is, narrowing it down to age, city, and profession.</p><p>Along with figuring out the mostly likely candidate, the statistics reveal some other interesting information, like the average number roses received per name, profession, city, and state. For example, while the majority of contestants are in their twenties, the most successful contestants are in their thirties.</p><p>But other details aren't surprising, including the most common name for a contestant being Lauren (there were four Laurens on Arie Luyendyk Jr.'s season alone).</p><p><strong>Here are some of the findings in the study:</strong></p>

But it's also faced criticism for its masterful manipulation of a woman's pain. But host Chris Harrison consistently reminds viewers throughout the night that something very dramatic is going to happen, and with 90 more minutes of airtime left, everyone knew something was up. </span></p><p><span>Turns out, Arie decided he made the wrong decision weeks after proposing to Becca. On camera, in footage that Harrison said was "unedited," Arie ends his engagement with Becca. He tells her that he's going to try to have a relationship with Lauren, the runner-up. </span></p><p><span>Becca was completely set up, and had no idea Arie was going to dump her.
