IT firm <keyword id="30331" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HCL-Technologies">HCL Technologies</keyword> on Monday posted a 9.9 per cent rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 3,214 crore for the June 2021 quarter, and said it expects double-digit growth in constant currency revenue in FY22. The IT major had registered a net profit of Rs 2,925 crore in the April-June 2020 quarter (as per US GAAP), <keyword id="28126" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HCL">HCL</keyword> Technologies said in a regulatory filing. Its revenue grew 12.5 per cent to Rs 20,068 crore in the quarter under review, from Rs 17,841 crore in the corresponding period last year. "We posted 11.7 per cent year-on-year revenue growth in constant currency and 29 per cent y-o-y growth in Mode 2 services in constant currency headlined by <keyword id="11674205" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="cloud-and-digital">Cloud and Digital</keyword> transformation deals. "We remain very confident of a good quarter-on-quarter growth for the rest of this year, enabled by 37 per cent y-o-y growth in bookings and 7,500-plus net hiring this quarter," HCL Technologies President and CEO <keyword id="819570" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="C-Vijayakumar">C Vijayakumar</keyword> said. In constant currency terms, HCL Tech's revenue in the June 2021 quarter grew 11.7 per cent year-on-year, the filing said. "Revenue (is) expected to grow in double digits in constant currency for FY'22...EBIT margin (is) expected to be between 19 per cent and 21 per cent for FY'22," it added. The company's first-quarter TCV (total contract value) of new deal wins was at USD 1,664 million, up 37 per cent year-on-year. In dollar terms, HCL Technologies' net income was up 12.8 per cent at USD 43 million in the June 2021 quarter, while revenue was higher by 15.5 per cent at USD 2,719.6 million in the reported quarter over the year-ago period. The <keyword id="136326" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Board-of-Directors">Board of Directors</keyword> has declared an interim dividend of Rs 6 per equity share for the financial year 2021-22. The Record date of July 28, 2021, has been fixed for the payment of the interim dividend. At the end of the June 2021 quarter, HCL had 1,76,499 employees with a net addition of 7,522 people. Its attrition for IT services (on last 12-month basis) was at 11.8 per cent. New Delhi, <keyword id="1390483" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Housing-sales" source="Orion">Housing sales</keyword> rose 8 per cent annually during the April-June period to 80,250 units across eight major cities, mainly on increased demand in Mumbai and Pune, according to PropTiger. Sales stood at 74,320 units in the year-ago period across primary (fresh sales) residential markets of the top eight cities. The housing brokerage firm on Wednesday released its Real Insight Residential - April-June 2023 report, stating that housing sales rose in three cities Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad but declined in other five major cities -- Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata. "India's top eight residential markets continue on a growth path. The RBI's decision to pause the hike in the key lending rate helped in sustaining strong positive sentiments for buying residential properties," Vikas Wadhawan, group CFO of REA India, said. PropTiger, Housing.com and Makaan.com platforms are owned by REA India, which is part of Australian firm REA, and News Corp. "The driving factors behind the uptick in housing sales over the last two years are pent-up demand from the COVID-affected period, growing appetite for home ownership, revival in the economy post-pandemic, and the evolving need for more spacious homes," he said. As per the data, housing sales in Ahmedabad increased 17 per cent to 8,450 units during the April-June period to 7,240 units in the year-ago period. Bengaluru saw a 19 per cent decline in sales to 6,790 units from 8,350 units while Chennai witnessed a 5 per cent fall to 3,050 units from 3,210 units. Housing sales in Delhi NCR fell 28 per cent to 3,230 units from 4,510 units. Hyderabad too witnessed a 3 per cent drop in demand to 7,680 units from 7,910 units. Housing sales in Kolkata decreased 40 per cent to 1,940 units from 3,220 units. Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) saw a 16 per cent increase in sales to 30,260 units during April-June period from 26,160 units in the year-ago period. In Pune, sales increased 37 per cent during April-June to 18,850 units from 13,720 units in the corresponding period of the previous year. Delhi-NCR market includes Gurugram, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad while MMR includes Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane. REA India Head of Research Ankita Sood noted that MMR and Pune contributed 61 per cent to total housing sales across 8 cities. Demand in localities such as Thane West and Dombivali in Mumbai and Charholi Budruk and Hadapsar in Pune have been high, she said. In terms of new housing supply, PropTiger reported that launches increased 11 per cent to 1,13,770 units during the April-June from 1,02,140 units in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Housing property sales in Bengaluru, Delhi sees a decline but Mumbai, Pune maintain pace

New Delhi, India's total <keyword id="6383145" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Coal-production" source="Orion">coal production</keyword> rose 8.40 per cent to 222.93 million tonne (MT) in April-June 2023-24, an official statement said on Monday. The country's overall coal output was 205.65 MT in the year-ago quarter, the Ministry of Coal said. Captive mines /others registered a growth of 4.74 per cent to 30.48 MT in Q1 FY24, from 29.10 MT in Q1 FY23. The cumulative coal dispatch grew 6.97 per cent to 239.69 MT in Q1 this fiscal compared to 224.08 MT in Q1 of FY23. The total coal stock, as of June 30, 2023, surged 37.62 per cent to 107.15 MT (provisional) from 77.86 MT a year ago. "This growth indicates the continued efforts to meet the rising demand for coal," the ministry said. State-owned <keyword id="45383" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="coal-India" source="Orion">Coal India</keyword> Limited (CIL) has recorded 9.85 per cent growth, with production reaching 175.35 MT in Q1 FY24 compared to 159.63 MT a year ago. India will not face any coal shortage this year, even during the monsoon, Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi said last month.

Indias urban unemployment rate improved remarkably in the April-June quarter, revealed the <keyword id="7734679" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="national-statistical-office" source="Orion">National Statistical Office</keyword>. It dipped to 7.6 per cent during the April-June quarter from 12.6 per cent during the corresponding quarter a year ago. It is a clear indication that the country's economy is coming out the grip of Covid-induced slowdown. India's urban unemployment rate improved across genders and age groups to its best-ever level in the quarter ending June 2022.India's headline urban unemployment rate was 7.6 per cent in the quarter ending June, compared to 8.2 per cent in the quarter ending March, 12.7 per cent in the June quarter of 2021-22, and 8.9 per cent in the June quarter of 2019-20. Joblessness was high in April-June 2021 mainly due to the staggering impact of Covid-related restrictions in the country. The 15th <keyword id="3429286" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="periodic-labour-force-survey" source="Orion">Periodic Labour Force Survey</keyword> (<keyword id="1697741" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="plfs" source="Orion">PLFS</keyword>) showed that the unemployment rate among females (aged 15 years and above) in urban areas declined to 9.5 per cent in April-June, 2022 from 14.3 per cent a year ago. It was 10.1 per cent in January-March, 2022.Among males, the unemployment rate in urban areas dipped to 7.1 per cent in April-June 2022 compared to 12.2 per cent a year ago. It was 7.7 per cent in January-March 2022. Since some kinds of jobs, like those in agriculture, are seasonal in nature, unemployment rate comparisons are best made for the same quarter across years. However, the remarkable improvement in this rate can be seen from the fact that it is the lowest rate since the quarter ending June 2018, the first quarter for which the quarterly bulletins have data, revealed media reports. That the improvement in unemployment rate was not lopsided can be seen from the fact that it improved across groups. The quarterly bulletin gives a breakup of unemployment rate by gender and by three age groups: all ages, 15-29 years, and 15 years and above. Unemployment rates for all these groups was the best in the quarter ending June, media reports said. Similarly, at 37.2 per cent, the labour force participation rate (<keyword id="4279410" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="lfpr" source="Orion">LFPR</keyword>) - or the share of population working or seeking work - in the first quarter of the current financial year was the highest for this quarter for any year since 2018-19 and 10 basis points (100th of a percentage point) higher than in the first quarter of last year. While LFPR was not at its best level in the quarterly bulletin's history like the unemployment rate, it is enough for it to be best for the June quarter because of the seasonality factor. The broad industry-wise breakup of workers further showed that employment prospects also improved. The share of workers in agriculture, secondary sector (which includes sectors like manufacturing and mining), and tertiary sector (comprises services) was 5.7 per cent, 34 per cent and 60.3 per cent, respectively. The share in agriculture is an improvement over the June quarters of FY 2021-22 and FY 2020-21, both affected by lockdowns, but not over FY 2019-20, when only 4.9 per cent were in agriculture. The share in tertiary sector was similarly a higher 62 per cent in FY 2019-20, a clear sign that though people are seeking and finding jobs with the pandemic under control, they may not be earning as much as they did before the pandemic. These signs will be confirmed or rejected when the unit-level data becomes available, the report stated. Labour force refers to the part of the population which supplies or offers to supply labour for pursuing economic activities for the production of goods and services and, therefore, includes both employed and unemployed persons. The NSO launched PLFS in April 2017. India's urban unemployment rate dips to 7.6% in the April-June quarter

Engineering, manufacturing and technology led the <keyword id="1039552" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="office-space-absorption" source="Orion">office space absorption</keyword> levels in <keyword id="12864" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="chennai" source="Orion">Chennai</keyword> as it grew by 107% between April and June 2023 period, a study undertaken by <keyword id="897106" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cbre-south-asia" source="Orion">CBRE South Asia</keyword> Pvt Ltd said on Friday. Accordingly, the absorption level of office space stood at 2.5 million square feet space between April and June 2023 while it was 1.2 million sq ft during the same period of last financial year in the capital. Engineering and manufacturing together accounted for 45 % of office space, followed by technology 18 % and flexible office space operators at 16 % while remaining was contributed by other sectors. The majority of the office space absorption was small-size (less than 50,000 sq ft) deals, the study said. At the pan-India level during the April-June 2023 period, <keyword id="6861353" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="office-space-supply" source="Orion">office space supply</keyword> grew by 6 % and Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai accounted for the majority of the absorption levels. The non-Special Economic Zone (<keyword id="45393" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sez" source="Orion">SEZ</keyword>) segment continued to dominate development completions during April-June 2023 period while SEZ segment accounted for 24 % of the new developments. Key transactions recorded in the city during April-June 2023 period include Agilysys which leased 181,800 sq ft in Ramanujan IT park, IndiQube leased 1,65,000 sq ft in Alpine and Cholamandalam Finance leased 80,000 sq ft in Tamarai Technology Park, the study said.
