Summer has arrived early this year. As per the India Meteorological Department, April was the <a href="https://internal.imd.gov.in/press_release/20220402_pr_1551.pdf">hottest </a>month for northwest and central India and the third-hottest April the country has seen over the past 122 years, from 1901 to 2022. This April, which left more than a billion people sweltering, was not ‘just another hot month.’ It indicates a recurring pattern of intense hot spells, which could be a sign of climate change and global warming. <div type="image" title="Summer has arrived early this year" msid="91355355" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Summer has arrived early this year&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> Could these intense and recurring heat waves be a sign of climate change? The number of heat wave days in India in a decade has increased from 413 during 1981-90 to 575 in 2001-10 and further to 600 in 2010-20, a <a href="https://theprint.in/environment/indias-early-heatwave-sign-of-climate-change-could-be-more-dangerous-to-health-say-experts/933706/">study </a>by IMD and Kottayam-based Institute for Climate Change Studies (ICCS) said, highlighting the impact of climate crisis on the maximum temperatures. In fact, 12 of the country’s 15 <a href="https://pib.gov.in/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1686173">warmest years</a> on record have occurred in the last 30 years. The daily high temperatures measured each year have also been increasing at a faster rate than daily low temperatures. The 2015 <a href="https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/85986/india-faces-deadly-heat-wave">heat wave</a> in June killed more than 2,500 people and the 2022 heat wave in March and April has already taken 25 lives in <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/mumbai/25-heat-stroke-deaths-in-maha-most-in-6-yrs/articleshow/91243493.cms">Maharashtra</a>, which is the highest in six years, and over 374 cases of heat stroke have been reported in this period. <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2022/04/29/climate-change-india-heatwave/9583931002/">Experts</a> predict that before climate change, such intensity of heat would have only been seen about once in every 50 years in India. However, it is now <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2022/04/29/climate-change-india-heatwave/9583931002/">expected</a> to occur once every four years. Is the worst yet to come? Let’s take a closer look at the heat patterns in April. On April 27, 2022, the highest temperature in the country, 45.9°C (114.6°F), was recorded in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Barmer in West Rajasthan in the northwest reported a high of 45.1°C (113.2°F) a day before, according to the <a href="https://mausam.imd.gov.in/Forecast/marquee_data/Press%20Release%2027.04.2022%20_1.pdf">India Meteorological Department</a>. Many other cities and towns recorded temperatures of 42-44°C (108-111°F). <div type="image" title="Northwest and central India recorded the third-hottest April the country has seen over the past 122 years" msid="91355531" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Northwest and central India recorded the third-hottest April the country has seen over the past 122 years &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> These patterns could change in the future. So, is the worst yet to come? As per India’s Ministry of Earth Sciences, the frequency of warm extremes over India has increased during 1951–2015, with accelerated warming trends during the recent 30-year period. Significant change is observed for the warmest day, warmest night and coldest night since 1986. Our country, which is reeling through a heat wave right now, is also expected to suffer through more frequent and intense hot spells, extreme rainfall and erratic monsoons in the coming decades as the planet warms, said <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/current-affairs/india-s-record-heatwave-to-get-worse-authorities-blame-global-warming-122042900785_1.html">United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel</a>, a body for assessing the science related to climate change. On the other hand, the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) released a statement that said “it is premature to attribute the extreme heat in India and Pakistan solely to climate change.” The global body added that the heat is consistent with what it expects in a changing climate. The WMO also noted that these “heat waves are more frequent and more intense and starting earlier than in the past.” Cascading impacts of a heat wave The summer in India has been brutal in the past couple of years, with heat wave deaths occurring with more regularity, especially in heat wave-prone regions of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Odisha. It also has led to cascading impacts not just on human health, but also on ecosystems such as agriculture, water and energy supplies. Power demand has spiked and coal inventories have dropped, leaving the country with its worst <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/india/news/why-are-there-power-cuts-and-heatwave-in-india/articleshow/91177785.cms">power shortage</a> in more than six years. Additionally, in the last seven days, India’s Forest Survey department (FSI) has reported more than<a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/videos/in-depth/how-frequent-forest-fires-impact-humans-animals-and-environment-equally/videoshow/91294425.cms"> 7800 forest fires </a>in various parts of the country. <div type="image" title="Large forest fires have increased in India due to rising temperatures" msid="91355581" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Large forest fires have increased in India due to rising temperatures&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The heat wave has also <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/india/after-five-record-crops-heat-wave-threatens-indias-wheat-output-export-plans-2022-05-02/">threatened</a> India’s wheat output plan. However, there’s still hope to <a href="https://www.ipcc.ch/2022/04/04/ipcc-ar6-wgiii-pressrelease/">control</a> climate change. It will involve a substantial reduction in fossil fuel use, widespread electrification, improved energy efficiency, and use of alternative fuels (such as hydrogen). <ul><li>Ola has been advertising its new feature Ola restrooms – an on-demand mobile toilet van. </li><li>While Ola restrooms joins the legacy of Ola’s epic April Fool’s day pranks, it is also a part of the company’s social mission. </li><li>Soon, Ola users can contribute ₹1 per ride to make way for clean toilets in India. </li></ul>Over the past two days, Indian ride-hailing startup Ola has been relentlessly advertising about its new feature – Ola restrooms – a mobile toilet van for you to use the bathroom whenever and wherever you need. And before you say it’s a ridiculous idea, well it’s an April Fool’s Day prank by the company. However, that’s not it. Ola is driving home a bigger message through the prank. Twitter users had already started calling out Ola for using toilets as a prank given that India ranks highest in various issues related to sanitation. In fact, a report done by WaterAid shows some really troubling numbers for India – 732 million people still “suffer from fear and indignity of relieving themselves in the open or in unsafe or unhygienic toilets”, more than 355 million women and girls have to wait in long queues just for access to the toilet making India top the list for the longest queue for the toilet. Turning around its April Fool’s Day prank, Ola is now offering its riders a chance to contribute and make way for access to toilets in India. They have partnered with Gramalaya, an organisation dedicated to providing better water and sanitary facilities in rural areas. Through this partnership, starting April 2 Ola users can voluntarily contribute ₹1 per ride to Gramalaya. Over the years, Ola has almost always played a prank on its users on April Fool’s starting from announcing Ola newsroom to Ola Air – a chopper service. His <keyword id="1751317" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="April-Fools">April Fool's</keyword> joke, with <keyword id="285445" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Dropbox">Dropbox</keyword> as the butt, proves it.
The dig at Dropbox is subtle but unmissable.
In announcing that his file-sharing company is merging with payments processor Square to form a new company called Polyhedron, Levie makes fun of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/dropbox-is-buying-mega-hyped-email-startup-mailbox-2013-3">Dropbox's acquisition of Mailbox</a>, hinting that the only thing these two companies really have in common was the "box" in their names.
Levie also takes a shot at <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword>, a major Dropbox partner, which includes its file-sharing service on its Android smartphones.

We’re insanely excited to announce the merger of Square and Box, and the birth of Polyhedron.
I’ve been DMing Jack a lot lately, and when he does respond, every conversation inevitably leads to talking about shapes. Round shapes. Pointy shapes. 3D shapes. Thomas Friedman once said, “The world is flat.” Bullshit. Due to this shared belief that shapes are the source of all innovation and beauty, we simply knew we had to find a way to work together.
Serendipitously, around this time customers began telling us, “I want to be able to pay for things and share files. Why are these separate activities?” After hearing this almost multiple times, we realized we had to fit the pieces together.
Picture this: you’re at Starbucks, paying for your favorite latte on your phone with Square. While incredibly cool, it’s…well, a little two-dimensional. But suddenly, you want to share a completely unrelated file with your boss. Just last week, you would have had to open an entirely different app, your beverage growing cold in the process. No longer. Polyhedron brings the power of two insanely great shapes in one magical experience. Boom: new dimension.
Sometimes companies merge because of strategic fit, culture, and shared vision. And while we think these are certainly compelling reasons to join forces, sometimes the real strategic value is in <a href="https://blog.dropbox.com/2013/03/welcome-mailbox/">similar names</a>. 
Sometimes 2 plus 2 equals 5. In this case it’s 4N. We think customers will be delighted by this combination. This is just the beginning. In the future, we will look to aggressively roll up other shape-inclined companies. And while we’re biased towards right angles, that will not limit our ambitions.
After all, simplicity isn’t just about focus. It’s about disrupting traditional ways of thinking about all the shapes around us, and how these shapes can fit together.
Following Samsung’s lead, Jack and I will be looking for a third co-CEO, given that triangles are the optimal executive shape. Polyhedron will be located in Union Square in San Francisco.

This gag essentially laughs at the drama surrounding company's controversial choice to make <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/source-microsoft-may-abandon-the-ad-business-over-ie10-fiasco-2012-7">Do Not Track a default as opposed to opt-in setting on the Internet Explorer 10 web browser.</a> Advertisers were very angry about the decision — and lack of warning — and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/microsofts-do-not-track-plan-is-in-tatters-as-advertisers-vow-to-ignore-it-2012-10">vowed to ignore the Do Not Track setting</a> since there was no way to determine if users actually cared about tracking.

What does it do?

Microsoft Exec Laughs Off Internet Explorer Controversies With Hilarious 'Do Not Tracksuit'

<a href="http://mashable.com/2013/03/28/bacon-scope-mouthwash/">Mashable notes that</a> "Procter &amp; Gamble, Scope's parent company, claims this is a real product."
<a href="https://twitter.com/ScopeMouthwash/status/317306849890279425">Scope is tweeting about the product nonstop</a>, and the <a href="http://www.scopemouthwash.com/scope-products/scope-bacon-mouthwash.aspx">mouthwash does have its own product page</a> on Scope's main website.
According to the FAQ: "No pigs are harmed during the making of Scope Bacon. The bacon taste you’ll find in Scope Bacon is a perfectly healthy synthetic flavoring." 
But this product seems too amazingly strange to be true.
First of all, there's no way to actually buy the product online.
Second, bacon is the go-to <keyword id="1751317" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="April-Fools">April Fool's</keyword> prank. Last year <a href="http://www.cnbc.com/id/46906663">J&amp;D Foods announced a bacon coffin</a>, and <a href="http://www.mediabistro.com/prnewser/clorox-adds-bacon-to-april-fools_b35919">Clorox started offering a bacon-scented cat litter</a> that sizzles when your cat pees;
Scope isn't the first company to release an early <keyword id="134023" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="April-Fools-day">April Fool's Day</keyword> prank this year. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/american-eagles-new-skinny-skinny-jeans-are-actually--body-paint-2013-3">American Eagle advertised a new product:"skinny skinny jeans" that are actually two cans of paint.</a>

The Internet Is Trying To Figure Out If This Bacon Mouthwash Is Real Or Fake

In a <a href="http://www.army.mil/article/99764/">post on the Army website</a>, Staff Sgt. Megan Garcia writes about the 'Military working cat' program being unveiled at the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment:
Officials hope to capitalize on cats' olfactory and hearing prowess. While most people think of dogs as having sharp senses, cats actually have more acute senses. For example, dogs can hear five times more acutely than humans, and cats about twice as acutely as dogs. Also, a domestic cat's sense of smell is about fourteen times as strong as a human's. Soldiers around the regiment have been doing their part to support the program by capturing stray cats in their neighborhoods and bringing them into the detachment located on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, Va. More than 100 cats have been collected since the program started earlier this month.
<a href="http://www.army.mil/article/99764/">While the post</a> has an obvious Photoshop of a cat wielding a rifle, it surprisingly has some truth to it. 'Military working cat' was used <a href="http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123062827">in a real headline</a> from Aug. 3, 2007 on the Air Force website, highlighting a cat named 'Wizzo' that was helping get rid of rodents at Edwards Air Force base.
Writing at the end, "Happy April Fools!," the Army made it much more obvious than last year, when they released a story saying that all soldiers would have to <a href="http://www.army.mil/article/54202/">wear Stetson hats.</a> Despite the official adoption date for the new headwear being "April Fools Day, 2012," there <a href="http://forums.military.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/672198221/m/2730062072001">were still many</a> that didn't get it.
