<ul><li><keyword id="790242" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="WhatsApp">WhatsApp</keyword> has decided to take legal action against entities that use third party software to send bulk messages on its messaging service.</li><li>Any non-personal use of the platform is not what WhatsApp was intended for, according to the company’s spokesperson. </li><li>This comes after WhatsApp served cease and desist notices to companies reportedly violating regulation using clone apps and software.</li></ul> Over the last few years, WhatsApp has been trying to limit the amount of bulk messages that are sent on the platform. But clone apps and automated delivery software that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/whatsapp-forward-messages-unrestricted-for-rs-1000-using-clone-apps-software/articleshow/69353858.cms">cost as little as ₹1,000</a> are by-passing the platform’s anti-spam restrictions. The Facebook-owned messaging app has now decided to take legal actions against those who are exploiting the platform by way of unauthorised usage. WhatsApp has over 1.5 billion users, globally. "Beginning on December 7, WhatsApp will take legal action against those we determine are engaged in or assisting others, in abuse that violates our Terms of Service, such as automated or bulk messaging or non-personal use, even if that determination is based on information solely available to us off our platform," the company wrote in a post on Wednesday. So, anyone from companies to individuals, can be sued by WhatsApp if found sending out messages in bulk. Stopping misuse in its tracks The company said that the messaging service is not intended to circulate bulk or automated messaging, both of which violate their Terms of Service. The issue with mass messaging has less to do with casual users of WhatsApp but with digital marketers and political activists. When Reuters revealed that clones apps were being used to send out bulk messages, WhatsApp issued <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/whatsapp-forward-messages-unrestricted-for-rs-1000-using-clone-apps-software/articleshow/69353858.cms">cease and desist notice</a>s to all companies that were reportedly involved. WhatsApp was designed for private messaging, so the company asserts that they have taken action globally to prevent bulk messaging and enforce limits on how WhatsAp accounts that misuse WhatsApp will be handled. "We have also stepped up our ability to identify abuse, which helps us ban 2 million accounts globally per month," <a href="http://techcrunch">TechCrunch</a> reported a WhatsApp spokesperson as saying. But for that to happen, a user’s WhatsApp activity has to show up as ‘unusual’ on the company’s radar. Both the apps became immensely popular in India within a short span of time due to the prevailing anti-China sentiment amid border tensions between India and China in Ladakh and calls by Indian activists to boycott Chinese products. The Remove China Apps was designed to help users identify applications of Chinese origin. Without naming the apps, Google hinted that the Mitron app may make a come back on the Play Store once it fixes some technical issues, but the chances of the Remove China Apps are thin. "We have an established process of working with developers to help them fix issues and resubmit their apps. We've given this developer (of the video app) some guidance and once they've addressed the issue the app can go back up on Play," Sameer Samat, Vice President, Android and Google Play, said in a statement. Google said that its Android app store was designed to provide a safe and secure experience for the consumers while also giving developers the platform and tools they need to build sustainable businesses. Samat said that Google Play recently suspended a number of apps for violating the policy that it does not allow an app that "encourages or incentivizes users into removing or disabling third-party apps or modifying device settings or features unless it is part of a verifiable security service". "This is a longstanding rule designed to ensure a healthy, competitive environment where developers can succeed based upon design and innovation. When apps are allowed to specifically target other apps, it can lead to behaviour that we believe is not in the best interest of our community of developers and consumers," Samat said. Apple App Store prevented over $2 billion in fraudulent transactions last year, banned 282 million user accounts

New Delhi, July 9 (IANS) With the Covid-19 disruptions bringing more businesses online, <keyword id="790242" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="WhatsApp">WhatsApp</keyword> Business has reached a new milestone of 50 million monthly users globally with almost a third of them being in India, the Facebook-owned platform said on Thursday. In India, there are more than 15 million monthly WhatsApp Business app users. The platform on Thursday also introduced new features to start a chat with a business on WhatsApp like starting a chat with a business using QR codes. Scanning a QR code will open a chat with an optional pre-populated message created by the business to start the conversation, WhatsApp Business said in a blog post. With the app's messaging tools, businesses can quickly send information such as their catalog to get the conversation going. QR codes are available for businesses around the world using the WhatsApp Business app or WhatsApp Business API starting Thursday, the company said. WhatsApp Business said that more than 40 million people view a business catalog on the platform each month, while more than three million users in India do so each month. "To make it easier for people to discover products, we're making catalogs and individual items available to be shared as links on websites, Facebook, Instagram and elsewhere," said the blog post. "If people want to share a catalog or item they find with friends or family, they can simply copy the link and send it on WhatsApp or other places as well," it added. Additionally, WhatsApp also launched new "Open for Business" sticker packs to help people and businesses stay connected, say thanks and get business done. WhatsApp which has over 400 million users in India said these sticker packs will be available to all of its more than two billion users worldwide as well as the 50 million users of the WhatsApp Business app.

As such, Basecamp must also offer a way for new users to subscribe to Hey through the iOS app using Apple's in-app payment system.The decision prompted a lot of confusion from developers and app creators in response to Heinemeier Hansson's tweets, with many wondering why some apps are required to offer in-app purchases and others aren't.Apple says on its <a href="https://www.apple.com/ios/app-store/principles-practices/">App Store principles and practices website</a> that developers behind apps that fall into the "reader" category "receive all of the revenue they generate from bringing the customer to their app. Apple receives no commission from supporting, hosting, and distributing these apps."These rules only apply to specific types of content, provided the developer doesn't try to steer users toward purchasing methods outside of the in-app purchasing system. "And developers, from first-time engineers to larger companies, can rest assured that everyone is playing by the same set of rules," Apple wrote in its response to Spotify's complaint last year. Apple also said in an email to Business Insider that its policies on privacy, design, and business models apply to all app developers.That hasn't stopped regulators from targeting Apple.
