<ul><li><keyword id="153327" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Antrix-Corporation">Antrix Corporation</keyword>, the commercial arm of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has brought in a total of ₹62.98 billion in revenue. </li><li>The government plans to expand to commercial viability of its Departments of Space (DoS) by forming the <keyword id="7832818" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-space-india-limited">New Space India Limited</keyword> (NSIL).</li><li>Private players are still left out of the loop until the ‘<keyword id="7803428" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Space-Activities-Bill">Space Activities Bill</keyword>’ is tabled in Parliament and passed by its members.</li></ul>The Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) arm of commercial operations, the Antrix Corporation, clocked in ₹62.98 billion (₹6,289 crore) in revenue from launching 239 satellites over the last three years. And, this might only increase in the future. The government already announced that they plan on increasing the commercial viability of the Department of Space (DoS) by replacing Antrix with <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/union-budget-2019-isros-new-commerical-arm-is-new-space-india-limited/articleshow/70086097.cms">New Space India Limited (NSIL)</a>. NSIL will be set up to meet the ever increasing demands of the Indian space programme. It will also help commercially exploit the global space market, according to Jitendra Singh from the Prime Minister’s Office. Keeping costs low ISRO has an edge over its competition as it keeps its launch costs as low as possible — something that Elon Musk’s SpaceX is also trying to accomplish by employing reusable rockets. ISRO charges approximately $3 million per satellite launch where as SpaceX’s cost are still at around $60 million. In comparison, United Launch Alliance — which mostly launches satellites for the US government and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) — charges upward of $100 million. But, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/india-low-cost-chandrayaan-and-mars-missions-come-at-a-price/articleshow/70226652.cms">keeping costs low comes with its own price.</a> Most of India’s missions, like Mangalyaan and the upcoming Gaganyaan, are technology demonstrators rather than long-term voyages which collect data. Private participation The market for space launches is getting increasingly competitive with private players entering the field globally. In India, only the public sector is allowed to launch rockets into space. Private participation, so far, has been limited to building components and technologies for ISRO, on a small scale. The Indian government is currently mulling over the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/india-space-activities-bill-addresses-damage-in-outer-space/articleshow/69960212.cms">‘Space Activities Bill’</a> to align its liability in outer space with international standards. Once the bill comes into place, it will allow private players to launch rockets with a government license. “ISRO, competent as it is, cannot be the only warden of India’s space ambitions and necessities. This role should be extended to the private sector just as other countries are doing,” according to Chaitanya Giri, a fellow with the space and ocean studies programme at Gateway House — the Indian council on global relations. ISRO’s commercial operations clock in over ₹60 billion in revenue but leaves private players out of the equation

It’s quite obvious, after all – never before such large populations have been under the sovereign rule and governed by political systems that are poles apart. And never before two nations with such massive socio-cultural diversity (especially India) have lived in such extreme economic disparity and still remained stable. To that quartet of politics, economics, society and culture, we can now add one more context – science &amp; technology. Interestingly, both of them have created and deployed homegrown technologies to capture the final frontier – the space. 
 China took off back in 2003 while 2013 might be looked upon as the turning point when we truly pitched a tent in space. It doesn’t take <keyword id="9428" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rocket">rocket</keyword> science to imagine that barring a catastrophe on the lines of Hollywood action disasters, rockets will eventually lead to the biggest industry ever for the mankind. China has already leaped ahead of <keyword id="6355311" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Japan">Japan</keyword> and Europe by sending many humans into the space while India, with <keyword id="913432" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chandrayaan-1">Chandrayaan 1</keyword> in 2008 and the recent <keyword id="1506013" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="mangalyaan">Mangalyaan</keyword> (<keyword id="6625456" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mars-Orbiter-Mission">Mars Orbiter Mission</keyword>), has carved its own lane in the race to capture the <keyword id="2001111" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Global-space-market">global space market</keyword>. 
 The <keyword id="2001134" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Space-market">space market</keyword> consists of two major product/service categories – <keyword id="133588" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="communication-satellites">communication satellites</keyword> and <keyword id="2001117" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Non-communication-satellites">non-communication satellites</keyword>. Communication satellites usually weigh around 4,000-5,000 kg and currently, India does not possess any <keyword id="1542232" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Space-Launch-Vehicle">space launch vehicle</keyword> (aka ‘rocket’) to put modern-day communication satellites into <keyword id="6375157" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Orbit">orbit</keyword>. Non-communication satellites include earth observation, weather, navigation and research satellites. And here’s where India already has assets for big returns. 
 India currently has two broad classes of launch vehicles. One is the workhorse called <keyword id="622933" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Polar-Satellite-Launch-Vehicle">Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle</keyword> (<keyword id="6395832" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="PSLV">PSLV</keyword>), with many proven variants, and the other is the much-touted future giant called <keyword id="1647388" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Geo-synchronous-Satellite-Launch-Vehicle">Geo-synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle</keyword> (<keyword id="138322" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="GSLV">GSLV</keyword>), with only one proven variant. Besides Chandrayaan 1 and Mars Orbiter Mission, PSLV has also launched many of our earth observation and weather satellites, along with India’s first ever <keyword id="1723872" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="navigation-satellite">navigation satellite</keyword> (aka <keyword id="911057" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="GPS-satellite">GPS satellite</keyword>, which is actually a name given to the bunch of the <keyword id="2001124" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="US-navigation-satellites">US navigation satellites</keyword> but has become ubiquitous) called <keyword id="2001125" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="IRNSS-1A">IRNSS 1A</keyword>, in July 2013. 
 The PSLV launch score card reads 23 successful endeavours out of 25. And the maximum load PSLV has successfully put in the orbit is 1,850 kg. It has put 64 <keyword id="6358065" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Satellite">satellite</keyword>s in orbit till date – 29 of them are Indian and 35 foreign ones. But here’s the catch. None of the foreign satellite launches were exclusively commercial launches but just mini piggybacks, always along with a major <keyword id="397800" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-satellite">Indian satellite</keyword>. The total mass of all foreign satellites launched by India till date is less than what a single PSLV launch can achieve. 
 Thus, in spite of having the space warhorses born and brought up in our own backyard and ready to scoop out a huge chunk of the space market pie, they’ll turn grey without running many a race, courtesy the stale socialist mindset on which the Indian polity still feeds. But can we really be the tiger in the space Olympics? Check this. India launched its <keyword id="164562" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mars-mission">Mars mission</keyword> within 15 months of the government’s approval in August 2012. And that, too, when the initial feasibility study had designated GSLV as the launch vehicle. 
 When GSLV was rejected due to technical snags appearing in two successive launches in 2010, PSLV was quickly cleared and made ready to fire within 15 months, along with developing all <keyword id="81047" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="scientific-instruments">scientific instruments</keyword> on MOM and the upgradation of ground-based facilities. Hence, we don’t even need a predator’s eyesight for the hunt as the ground is swarming with potential targets. 
 The <keyword id="2001136" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Global-space-economy">global space economy</keyword>, including <keyword id="2001137" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Satellite-industry-revenues">satellite industry revenues</keyword> and <keyword id="2001138" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Government-budgets">government budgets</keyword>, stood at $304 billion in 2012. The <keyword id="911963" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="satellite-industry">satellite industry</keyword> includes <keyword id="1814082" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="satellite-services">satellite services</keyword>, <keyword id="2001151" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Satellite-manufacturing">satellite manufacturing</keyword> &amp; launch, and ground equipment. Out of these, satellite services largely depend on the state of <keyword id="6355065" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="tv">TV</keyword>, <keyword id="12905" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Radio">radio</keyword>, <keyword id="17591" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Broadband">broadband</keyword> and <keyword id="471844" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="mobile-communication">mobile communication</keyword> services, <keyword id="2001147" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Transponder-agreements">transponder agreements</keyword> and other managed services for the home country or others. India mostly leverages its <keyword id="2001148" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Satellite-base">satellite base</keyword> for domestic usage and rarely rents it for <keyword id="2001149" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Foreign-commercial-use">foreign commercial use</keyword>. 
 But where we have already lost ground is <keyword id="2001150" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Satellite-manufacturing-and-launch">satellite manufacturing and launch</keyword> which grew 23% to $14.6 billion and 35% to $6.5 billion, respectively, in 2012 alone. We still can’t launch communications satellites although China has already launched five for other nations. A total of 951 satellites in the earth observation, navigation and weather categories, all in PSLV’s range, are planned to be launched by various governments and private entities during 2009-2018, as per the consultancy firm <keyword id="2001126" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Euroconsult">Euroconsult</keyword>’s report in 2009. Five years have elapsed since and with average satellite costs at $99 million and average launch price at $51 million in the previous decade, the lost opportunity costs are mindboggling. 
 So the task is cut out for the future central government. First, it must control the mushrooming of scams like the <keyword id="557071" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Antrix-Devas-deal">Antrix-Devas deal</keyword> – one which tarnished India’s image as a <keyword id="2001106" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="major-space-industry-player">major space industry player</keyword> even before it became one. Second, it must unleash the power of India’s private space industry comprising both manufacturing and services players.

<ul><li>The Indian Space Research Organisation says it will take another 4 months to launch its new rocket, the Small Satellite Launch Vehicles (SSLV). </li><li>Haridas TV, ISRO deputy director of the <keyword id="1382205" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vikram-Sarabhai-Space-Center">Vikram Sarabhai Space Center</keyword>, says that it will only take the space agency three weeks to prepare the launch vehicle. </li><li>Each satellite will cost between ₹30 to ₹35 crore to make. </li></ul>India’s is working on a new rocket and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to use it to boost its commercial operations. The <keyword id="6117656" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Small-Satellite-Launch-Vehicle">Small Satellite Launch Vehicle</keyword> (SSLV) will allow ISRO to launch satellites month-on-month and earn more revenue. "The biggest advantage is that ISRO now can manufacture these vehicles in a turnaround time of just three weeks," ISRO deputy director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/science/isro-readying-for-low-cost-satellite-launch-vehicles/articleshow/73808029.cms">Haridas T.V.</a> told reporters during EDGE 2020: The Space Conclave. Each satellite will cost between ₹30-35 crore each and can carry satellites weighing up to 500 kilograms. The agency’s commercial arm, the New Space India Limited (NSIL) — which was formed last year to replace the Antrix Corporation — plans to amp its operations with once the new rocket is developed. Its first launch is expected in the next four months. Even before the SSLV’s design was finalised, the rocket had <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/isros-new-company-just-made-its-first-sale-to-an-american-firm-to-come-aboard-a-rocket-that-doesnt-exist-yet/articleshow/70588829.cms">signed on its first customer</a>. The American space rideshare company — Spaceflight — bought a payload aboard the rocket in August 2019. Expecting high demand ISRO is expecting the SSLV to give India a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/science/space/news/isro-outlook-2020-indian-private-sector-eyes-30-billion-space-launch-pie/articleshow/72812429.cms">boost in the satellite launch market</a>. The Department of Space (DoS) is building a new spaceport in Tamil Nadu specifically to cater to that demand. According to Haridas, NSIL will be able to cater to the micro, mini and medium segments of the market. ISRO chairman K. Sivan, told The Hindu, that the SSLV’s test flight was supposed to happen in December 2019 with its maiden commercial flight scheduled for early 2020. However, the agency shared no updates with the public so far. In addition to the SSLV launches, ISRO also plans to conduct 50 launches using the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) over the next five years. India’s new rocket will let ISRO launch satellites month-on-month

<ul><li>The Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) plans for outer space exploration have gotten more ambitious — but they also cost more money. </li><li>Over the last five years, even though the money allocated to the Department of Space through the Union Budget has increased, the growth has not been consistent.</li><li>For the 2020 Union Budget, ISRO is hoping for additional funds to support the Chandrayaan 3 mission — India’s third mission to the moon.</li></ul>The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is on a mission to become a space superpower. Last year, space agencies all over the world watched as India tried to soft-land on the moon with <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/science/space/news/isro-shares-first-discovery-from-chandrayaan-2-orbiter/articleshow/71435228.cms">Chandrayaan 2.</a> The mission <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/science/space/news/chandrayaan-2-india-reveals-the-mystery-behind-vikram-lander-but-its-location-is-still-unknown/articleshow/72161803.cms">may not have been successful</a>, but ISRO isn’t giving up. While the space agency’s plans are certainly ambitious, it’s going to need a lot more resources to pull it off. The technology required to build these complex systems cost money. Most of the 11% jump in ISRO’s proposed budget or ₹666 crore will go towards meeting machinery, equipment and other capital expenditure.  Bringing in the money Right now, the only way that the space agency earns revenue is through its commercial arm — <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/union-budget-2019-isros-new-commerical-arm-is-new-space-india-limited/articleshow/70086097.cms">New Space India Limited (NSIL)</a>, formerly known as the Antrix Corporation. NSIL helps foreign governments get their satellites into space, manufactures rockets, produces space technology and helps aid the transfer of technology by ISRO centres. Over the past five years, ISRO has launched satellites from 26 different countries and has generated ₹1,245.17 crore in revenue. In 2020, the space agency has around 10 satellite mission scheduled to launch before March. The most notable of which will be the test flight of ISRO’s new <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/isros-new-company-just-made-its-first-sale-to-an-american-firm-to-come-aboard-a-rocket-that-doesnt-exist-yet/articleshow/70588829.cms">Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV)</a>. The smaller rocket can carry smaller payloads into Earth’s orbit and only needs three days to prepare for the launch. Other rockets require months of planning. Anticipating greater demand for satellite launches, ISRO is also building a new spaceport specifically for the SSLV rocket in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. Advocates also argue that ISRO’s mission helps push the Make in India initiative. Last year, the space agency invited private players to build 5 of its Polar Satellite Launch Vehicles (PSLVs). Exploring space is expensive — and ISRO needs more money from the 2020 Union Budget

<ul><li>The <keyword id="116095" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Space-Research-Organisation">Indian Space Research Organisation</keyword> (ISRO) has ambitious plans for space exploration over the next decade. </li><li>However, its commercial arm <keyword id="7832818" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-space-india-limited">New Space India Limited</keyword> (NSIL) lags drastically behind other space agencies. </li><li>Originally brought in to replace Antrix Corporation and sell ISRO's spin-off technology — NSIL is yet to diversify beyond launching satellites. </li></ul>The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has a bunch of big-ticket events lined up for 2020. And, projects like <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/science/space/news/chandrayaan-3-and-gaganyaan-top-priorities-for-isro-in-2020/articleshow/73063629.cms">Chandrayaan 3</a>, Gaganyaan and the new spaceport will <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/budget/news/budget-2020-isro-needs-rs-666-cr-for-chandrayaan-3/articleshow/73462546.cms">require considerable expenditure</a>. However, the Indian government might not be able to shell out a large outlay to the space research, as its own fiscal deficit has started hurting it. "It will be a growing trend. Last year, it was around ₹12,000 crore. This year it will be much more because there will be allocations for Chandrayaan 3, Gangayaan and for other exploration missions. There are also a few communications satellites that are coming up," Chaitanya Giri, a fellow of space and ocean studies programme at <keyword id="458347" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gateway-House">Gateway House</keyword>, told Business Insider. While the government may be strapped for cash, ISRO's commercial arm — New Space India Limited (NSIL) — is another way for the space agency to generate revenue. While it has been launching numerous satellite for countries around the world, it's nothing beyond the usual client-vendor arrangements that have been in place for years. India needs to catch to the rest of the world One of the primary reasons that the Indian government scrapped the Antrix Corporation, NSIL's predecessor, was so that it would take technology developed by ISRO and commercialise it. However, a year since the announcement, NSIL is yet to venture into the arena. "NSIL will take spin-off technologies which are developed within the Department of Space (DoS) labs and they'll try to commercialise it and generate revenue from there," said Giri. It's not that selling space technology to other countries will generate a lot of revenue. The reasons it's important for NSIL to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/science/space/news/isro-outlook-2020-indian-private-sector-eyes-30-billion-space-launch-pie/articleshow/72812429.cms">expand beyond satellite launches</a> is because diversification is an important part of surviving in the industry. "We haven't done this before. We're lagging tremendously behind other space agencies. Although that revenue is less, one has to diversify revenue sources. NSIL will hopefully do just that," he added. ISRO's got a long way to go before it generates revenue from spin-off technologies

SRIHARIKOTA: The success of GSLV-D5 signals is the beginning of a new era of commercial viability for Indian space missions. 
 Though India had in the last two decades claimed its rightful place in the global space sector with 25 consecutive successes of its Polar <keyword id="6358065" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Satellite">Satellite</keyword> Launch Vehicles (PSLVs), there remained a <keyword id="138322" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="GSLV">GSLV</keyword>-shaped hole. While PSLV can carry satellites up to 2 tonnes to a lowearth orbit, GSLV was needed for the launch of heavier satellites, especially of the telecommunication variety that need to be put in a 36,000km geosynchronous orbit. Sunday’s launch using an <keyword id="6500558" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="40" keywordseo="Indigenous">indigenous</keyword> cryogenic engine bridges this gap. 
 <keyword id="153327" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Antrix-Corporation">Antrix Corporation</keyword>, the commercial arm of <keyword id="6358064" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="ISRO">Isro</keyword>, which has been putting its workhorse PSLV to good use to launch satellites for other countries which find the Indian launchpad reliable and affordable, will now get a boost. Antrix chairman and managing director V S Hegde said the corporation is expecting a 15% growth in turnover as more countries were approaching Isro for commercial launches. Antrix has registered a revenue of `1,300 crore in the current fiscal. 
 Isro chairman K <keyword id="62601" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="radhakrishnan">Radhakrishnan</keyword> confirmed that <keyword id="87" type="COUNTRY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Germany">Germany</keyword> has approached India for the launch of an 800-kg satellite, and the UK for three satellites weighing 300kg each. “There will be at least two dedicated commercial launches this year using PSLV,” said Radhakrishnan. Isro scientists said earnings from such launches could more than double once GSLV is accepted globally as a reliable launch vehicle. 
 At the level of technology demonstration and outer space exploration, GSLV has come a shot in the arm for Isro. “Though we have spelled out our plans for a manned mission, we couldn’t arrive at a tentative date because of the unreliability of GSLV. This success will speed up such projects,” said a <keyword id="9662" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Scientist">scientist</keyword>. 
 
Radhakrishnan said Isro was ready for a series of GSLV launches, including those for GSAT-6, GSAT-7A, GSAT-9 and Chandrayaan-2. The second moon mission will use a GSLV, after a second success of the cryogenic engine.

Bengaluru, State-run <keyword id="7803427" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="NewSpace-India">NewSpace India</keyword> Ltd (NSIL), the commercial arm of the space department, bagged orders to launch four foreign satellites for earth observation from <keyword id="6355143" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="sriharikota">Sriharikota</keyword> spaceport in Andhra Pradesh, a top official said on Friday. "We have signed contracts with four foreign customers to launch four satellites in the earth's lower orbit using the PSLV and SSLV rockets of the Indian space agency <keyword id="6358064" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="isro">ISRO</keyword> (<keyword id="116095" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Space-Research-Organisation">Indian Space Research Organisation</keyword>) from its spaceport at Sriharikota," NSIL Chairman G. Narayanan told reporters here. The top official, however, did not disclose names of the customers or their location due to non-disclosure agreements with them. "Of the four satellites, three will be launched using ISRO's polar satellite launch vehicle (PSLV) and one with its small satellite launch vehicle (SSLV). The spacecraft will be used for earth observation applications," said Narayanan, marking the company's two years of completion. The state-run NSIL was in the news recently for launching Brazil's earth observation satellite Amazonia-1 on February 28 from the spaceport on board ISRO's PSLV-C51 rocket along with 18 other satellites. Amazonia-1 is the optical earth observation satellite of National Institute for Space Research (INPE) in Brazil. In addition to these commercial launches, NSIL will launch two communication satellites for Indian customers offering direct-to-home (DTH) services and telecom operators offering broadband services using Ku-band transponders. "The two communication satellites, to be launched by ISRO from its spaceport, will be owned and operated by us (NSIL) for customers on commercial terms for revenue-generating services," said Narayanan but declined to name the customers claiming confidentiality. Unlike the now defunct ISRO's commercial arm Antrix Corporation, which has ceased to function after its deal with Multimedia Deval fell through, the 2-year NSIL is a wholly owned state-run of the department of space as a central public sector enterprise. NSIL has been formed with Rs 10 crore paid-up capital and Rs 100-crore authorised capital. The space department has provided Rs 700 crore in the budget for fiscal 2021-22 for investing in infrastructure and capacity building to make satellites, rockets and launch them on commercial terms. "We also plan to invest Rs 2,000 crore per annum over the next five years to ramp up infrastructure to build satellites and rockets, launch them and operate their services for domestic use," asserted Narayanan. The Rs 2,000-crore for investment per annum will be raised through a mix of equity and debt. "We will also ramp up our headcount by hiring about 300 more people for stepping up operations and prepare to launch more satellites and rockets," said Narayanan on the occasion. Going forward, the fledgling company will launch heavy satellites for space applications and observation in the earth's geo-synchronous orbit by state-run and private firms. "The company has generated Rs 300 crore revenue in the first year (2019-20) of operations, Rs 400-crore in the second year (2020-21) amid the Covid pandemic through launches and space-based services from ISRO's satellites," said NSIL Director for technology and strategy D. Radhakrishnan. During its first two years of operations, the company has launched 45 auxiliary customer satellites onboard ISRO's 4 PSLV missions, including Amazonia-1. ISRO's commercial arm bags orders to launch four foreign satellites as it looks to invest ₹10,000 crore over the next five years

"PSLV C-48 successfully injected RISAT 2BR1 and nine customer satellites precisely into 576-kilometre orbit," said K Sivan during the post-launch press conference.

 This NSIL's second launch within less than a month. On 26 November, ISRO and NSIL launched 14 satellites — Cartosat-3 and 13 nano-satellites from the US. 
 And, Sivan gives all the credit to the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), which just completed its 50th successful launch — making it the most experienced launch vehicle in India's arsenal. "The PSLV had five variants. It initially had the payload capability of 850 kilograms, it is now enhanced to 1.9 tonnes. The PSLV is versatile, which has various mission options," explained Sivan. PSLV has placed 52.7 tonnes of payloads — cargo carried by the rocket — into orbit over the past 26 years since its inception, and 17% of that mass was customer satellites. That's only set to grow with ISRO and NSIL's <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/isros-commercial-arm-launched-239-satellites-in-last-3-years-earned-6289-crore-govt/article28698093.ece">12 missions</a> lined up before March. "We have very many successes, and at the same time, we have a large number of missions to do," said Sivan. ISRO's newly formed commercial arm completes second successful launch in less than a month

As per the reports coming in, the new businesses could help the Government get around Rs. 25,000 crore in total; which is one-third of India’s record disinvestment target for the current financial year. 
 The list given by the Government embraces firms like <keyword id="81864" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ONGC-Videsh">ONGC Videsh</keyword>, Southern Coalfields, Bharat Broadband, KIOCL and Mazagon Dock, Bharat Bhari Udyog Nigam, Antrix Corp., including various railway units. 
 
The IPO, for sure, will open new doorways for investors into the equity market. Names from Travel and Tourism Industry have also been identified and have been added to the revenue making list. Hotels run by Indian Tourism Development Corp. (ITDC) have been acknowledged as a major profit generating segment. 
 
Once in listing, it is going to benefit the depositors in a number of ways. Advantages like cash on redemption on a minimum tenure of one year, deposition of old jewellery as little as 30 grams will benefit the depositor. 
 
"The idea is to create a pipeline for the next two-three years," the official spokesperson told Economic Times. This needs to be done as the Government is close to the 51 % stake level in several listed state-owned companies, the person said. "So, the ideal situation is that we have approvals for stake sale in these firms and we can proceed depending on market conditions," he added.
