Officials of the <keyword id="65338" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Income-Tax-Department">Income Tax Department</keyword> are conducting raids at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tamil+Nadu+&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Tamil Nadu </a>Chief Secretary P. <keyword id="262564" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rama-Mohana-Rao">Rama Mohana Rao</keyword>'s residence in Anna Nagar, Chennai. 
 
Reportedly, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=I-T+officials+&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">I-T officials </a>are conducting search and survey operation on 13 premises that belong to Rao and his family and associates in Chennai, Bengaluru and Chittoor. 
 
According to sources, the chief secretary was under the I-T scanner for quite some time. I-T officials are questioning Rao since morning 5:30 am. 
 The raids are being conducted in connection with his alleged links with sand mining baron <keyword id="3982146" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="j-shekar-reddy">J Shekar Reddy</keyword> and others. 
 Earlier, the I-T department had seized 177 kg of <keyword id="18712" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gold">gold</keyword>, cash worth Rs 34 crore in the new Rs 2000 denomination and Rs 96 crore in demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes from three businessmen - J. <keyword id="6734894" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shekhar-Reddy">Shekhar Reddy</keyword>, Srinivasalu and Prem. 
 Both CBI and <keyword id="6357808" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Enforcement-Directorate">Enforcement Directorate</keyword> have registered cases against Shekhar Reddy and others for allegedly money laundering black money. 
 In a major shuffle after the re-election of AIADMK government in <keyword id="20154" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword>, Rao was appointed Chief Secretary in June this year. Rao, 1985 batch IAS officer, also holds additional charge of Vigilance Commissioner and Commissioner for Administrative reforms.

Chennai, July 10 () A team, deputed by the Central government to assess the COVID-19 situation in Tamil Nadu, met Chief Minister K Palaniswami here on Friday and discussed the strategy to contain the spread of the virus. State Health Minister Dr C Vijaya Bhaskar and health secretary J Radhakrishnan briefed the team on the strategies adopted to contain the pandemic and the steps taken to ramp up the testing for COVID-19. Chief Secretary K Shanmugham and senior officials too participated in the meeting. Measures of treatment taken to improve the recovery rate were also explained at the meeting. With this, the five-member team, led by Union Health Ministry's additional secretary Aarti Ahuja, wrapped up the three-day visit. The team had appreciated the state government's measures to combat the coronavirus and also the untiring efforts of the frontline health workers in treating the infected, official sources have said. The visit had come at a time when Chennai saw a drop in the number of COVID-19 cases, though the number of containment zones increased from 158 on July 3 to 276 on July 10. According to Greater Chennai Corporation, Teynampet zone has the most number of containment zones at 134 as on July 10 followed by Tondiarpet with 50 and Anna Nagar with 38. As on July 9, the city reported a total of 73,728 positive cases. About 52,287 have recovered while active cases remain at 20,271 cases and 1,169 have died. JSP NVG NVG

Central team to assess COVID-19 situation in TN meets CM

key behind high numbers, says govt Chennai July 4 (): Tamil Nadu may have breached the grim benchmark of one lakh COVID-19 infections, racing to second place in the country behind Maharashtra, but the government says ramped up testing and early detection are among the factors leading to reporting of such high numbers. The southern state's numbers as on Friday clocked a total of 1,02,721 with 1,385 deaths, while recoveries stood at 58,378. The recovery rate is 57 per cent. Around 12.70 lakh samples have been tested so far, the numbers being 35,028 on Friday. The state's fatality rate is 1.3 per cent. Among the many infected include state Higher Education Minister K P Anbalagan. DMK legislator J Anbazhagan, who had tested positive for the deadly virus, died early in June. When health minister Dr C Vijayabaskar took to Twitter to announce the first Coronavirus case in Tamil Nadu on March 7, an engineer from Kancheepuram with a travel history to Oman, little did people imagine the state would register over a lakh cases in a little less than four months. Tamil Nadu seemed comfortable then as neighbouring states like Kerala saw a spike in Coronavirus cases. Though the state reported lower daily increase initially, with the government having high hopes of reversing the trend soon, things changed and the numbers started galloping after two clusters---the Tablighi Jamaat members, and the Koyambedu wholesale market, started redrawing the COVID-19 situation in the state. The government said many cases were imported from other states and countries too. Though initially Chennai with its medical infrastructure and size of population contributed to the high caseloads, other parts in Tamil Nadu too started reporting cases since June. Incidentally, Chennai tops the virus chart with 64,689 cases so far. The government has said density of population is an important factor for the rapid spread of the pandemic in the city. At present, Chennai has 158 containment zones, 50 of which are in Tondiarpet and 43 in Anna Nagar, two of the worst affected areas in the city. Tamil Culture minister K Pandiarajan, entrusted to oversee the work in Tondiarpet, told that "the 2,200 strong field team and the mantra of the Chief Minister (K Palaniswami) to align five Ts - Trace, Track, Test, Treat and Tech-- have helped to increase the recovery rate and brought down the fatalities (in the city)." Chennai's neighbouring districts--Kancheepuram, Chengalpetand Tiruvallur, besides Madurai, are the other districts with high virus caseloads. These districts are presently under intense lockdown to curb the spread of the contagion, although curbs will continue with some relaxations from July 6. Though the state has been reporting high daily tally for the past many days, the government insists that there is no need for panic. "The spike in cases should not make one panic and Chennai's slums need not be compared with those in Mumbai," (another high prevalent zone), according to Health secretary J Radhakrishnan. "The chief minister's strategy of aggressive and increased testing has led to increase in cases. The state's focus is to reduce its fatalities. Two of Delhi’s localities like Karol Bagh and Golf Course Road made it to the list however, and so did Kolkata’s Alipore area, along with Pune’s Koregaon Park. It is not surprising to see the growth in expensive homes as the rich increasing in number. According to a Credit Suisse report, there were an estimated 3.42 lakh Dollar-millionaires in India as on mid-2018 who collectively held around $6 trillion. It is forecast that 5.26 lakh Indian dollar millionaires’ wealth will be around $8.8 trillion by 2023. Market fluctuations make very little difference to the personal net worth of these individuals, indicating that they are not beaten by the slowdown like everyone else.
