New Delhi, Dec 10 () Markets regulator Sebi on Tuesday exempted private family trusts related to promoters of Somany Ceramics from the obligation of making open offer following their proposed acquisition of shares in the Kolkata-based company.
 The directive comes after three trusts -- Sanrakshith Family Trust, Shakthi Family Trust and Srijan Family Trust -- sought exemption from applicability of Takeover Regulation following their proposed acquisitions of shares and voting rights in Somany Ceramics.
 Shreekant Somany, one of the promoter of Somany Ceramics, has set up two family trusts -- Sanrakshith Family Trust and Shakthi Family Trust, while another promoter Anjana Somany has set up Srijan Family Trust.
 Under the proposed transaction, Shreekant Somany will transfer 10.24 per cent stake to Sanrakshith Family Trust. 
 Besides, he will give 23.78 per cent shareholding to Shakthi Family Trust, while Anjana Somany will transfer 10.24 per cent shares to Srijan Family Trust.
 Pursuant to this, these trusts will hold 44.26 per cent stake in Somany Ceramics.
 As per the regulatory norms, the proposed acquisition will attract the obligation to make open offer under the Takeover Regulations.
 In an order, Sebi granted exemption to the family trusts from making open offer, saying that the proposed acquisitions are intended to streamline succession and promote welfare of the promoter family.
 Besides, the proposed acquisition will not affect the interest of public shareholders and there will be no change in control of the companies pursuant to the proposed acquisitions, Sebi noted.
 "The pre-acquisition and post-acquisition shareholding of the promoters in the target company will remain the same," the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) noted.
 Accordingly, Sebi granted exemption to the acquirer trusts from complying with the Takeover Regulations with respect to the proposed acquisitions in Somany Ceramics. SP

New Delhi, <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword> is grappling with a profound nutritional shift, as highlighted by the latest <keyword id="20048711" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lancet" source="keywords">Lancet</keyword> study, with nutritionists attributing this "double whammy" of undernutrition and obesity to a dual challenge: inadequate consumption of quality foods and easy access to cheap, unhealthy alternatives. The Lancet study, published on Thursday, found that in India, nearly 44 million women and 26 million men were obese in 2022, respectively. The analysis by the NCD Risk Factor Collaboration (NCD-RisC) - a global network of scientists - and the World Health Organization (WHO) also found that about 12.5 million children aged between five and 19 were overweight in 2022. "These numbers are up from 2.4 million and 1.1 million in 1990 for women and men, respectively, while for children, the baseline number was about 0.4 million," said study co-author Guha Pradeepa, from Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF), Chennai, told PTI. Reacting to the study findings, nutritionist Sudha <keyword id="19944928" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vasudevan" source="keywords">Vasudevan</keyword>, who was not involved in the study, noted that while good quality foods are nutrient-dense like fruits and vegetables, unhealthy foods are usually processed, containing high-fat, sugar, salt, and refined carbohydrates. "We had not yet won the war against undernutrition-related health problems, but now we are additionally burdened by those coming from overnutrition or obesity, and resembling the developed nations in that sense," Vasudevan, Senior Scientist and Head of the Department of Foods &amp; Nutrition Research, MDRF, told PTI. The findings suggest trends of an "epidemiological and nutrition transition" of India, Vasudevan said. "While the developed countries might be economically equipped to deal with obesity and related healthcare burden, India is not and therefore, we are struggling," she said. The Lancet study looked at body mass index (BMI) to understand how obesity and underweight have changed worldwide from 1990 to 2022. It analysed the weights and heights of over 220 million people aged five years or older, from across more than 190 countries. The findings also highlighted a major shift in lifestyle over the past decades, including lack of exercise and healthy food, said Pradeepa. The study found that the adult obesity rate in India increased from 1.2 per cent in 1990 to 9.8 per cent in 2022 for women, while for men, it rose from 0.5 per cent to 5.4 per cent. Pradeepa attributed the spike in obesity rate to a combination of biological and social factors. "Biological factors involve constant, cyclical hormonal activity with pregnancy-specific weight gain, following which taking care of the child takes precedence. "On the other hand, social factors compel them to prioritise their children's and family's health over their own. These factors present as barriers to doing exercise for women and taking care of themselves," she explained. The findings revealed the need for innovative interventions in terms of introducing more physical activity and movement in a day, especially for women, said Pradeepa. She referred to <keyword id="20792091" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="thandav" source="keywords">Thandav</keyword>, which is one such intervention, developed by Dr. R. M. <keyword id="20401278" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="anjana" source="keywords">Anjana</keyword>, President of MDRF. Thandav is a ten-minute routine that combines the physical exercise aspect of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) with enjoyable dance movements. The routine thus makes the act of performing physical exercise more entertaining and recreational, and also more socially acceptable as girls and women can perform this easily at their homes, explained Pradeepa. Anjana along with colleagues at MDRF, have scientifically investigated the impact of Thandav on the physical fitness of Indian girls and women and published papers in journals such as Diabetes Technology &amp; Therapeutics.

He died on April 6. For several years, Kanchibotla was New York and UN correspondent of the United News of India. In recent years, he was writing for two ethnic Indian American publications: The Indian Panorama and South Asia Times. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday condoled the demise of Kanchibotla, saying he will be remembered for his fine work."Very sad to learn about the passing away of veteran Indian-American journalist Brahm Kanchibotla due to COVID-19. Our heartfelt condolences to his family. He will be deeply missed by his friends and admirers in the US and India," India's Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, tweeted. New Delhi, In what could finally end the fortnight-long deadlock between <keyword id="6354616" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Twitter">Twitter</keyword> and the Indian government, the micro-blogging platform has either withheld or suspended at least 90-95 per cent <keyword id="6374937" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="accounts">accounts</keyword> as directed by the IT Ministry in two <keyword id="10754859" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="separate-notices">separate notices</keyword>, government sources confirmed on Friday. Among those whose accounts have been withheld include Sukhram Singh Yadav, a Rajya Sabha member and Samajwadi Party leader, and several politicians from the <keyword id="6354944" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="aam-aadmi-party">Aam Aadmi Party</keyword> (AAP) and the Congress. "@MPSukhram's account has been withheld in <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> in response to a legal demand," is the message posted on his account to users who access the page from India. This account, however, can be accessed from outside of the country. The company, facing penal action if does not comply with the directions given by the IT Ministry in three notices to block nearly 1,435 accounts in the wake of the farmers' protests, had earlier said that it withheld a portion of the accounts identified in the blocking orders under its 'Country Withheld Content' policy within India only. India had sought action against 1,435 accounts in two separate notices. The details of the accounts in question have not been made public yet. Twitter had said that it did not believe that the actions it has been directed to take by the IT Ministry are consistent with the Indian law. "In keeping with our principles of defending protected speech and freedom of expression, we have not taken any action on accounts that consist of news media entities, journalists, activists and politicians. To do so, we believe, would violate their fundamental right to free expression under Indian law," the micro-blogging platform had said in its blog post earlier this week. Twitter suspends 90-95% of accounts listed by Indian government

The 61-year-old woman, who died last week, was afflicted with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while treating a positive patient in March. Aya, who moved to the US along with her husband in 1994, is among the several Indian-American doctors who are in the frontline in the fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic. "Aya's text messages and her family's account of her final days reveal a woman who spent much of her life devoted to medicine before succumbing to the cruel and familiar arc of a patient with COVID-19," reported local Sun-Sentinel. Indian American community leaders say that quite a number of Indian American doctors have been infected during this once-in-a-century public health crisis. The number could be in several dozens and several of the Indian-American physicians have succumbed to coronavirus. A majority of them are said to be from New York and New Jersey. Dr Rajat Gupta (name changed) was attending a coronavirus patient in the emergency room of a hospital in New Jersey early this month. A few moments later, the patient threw up. It hit his face with a force. Gupta fell ill and he tested positive for coronavirus. Despite best efforts, doctors could not save his live, adding to the growing list of Indian-Americans who have died due to COVID-19. "It's hard to know the exact number of infected one," Ravi Kolli, secretary of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), told . "There are at least 10 (Indian American doctors) who are critically ill." One of the largest doctor's organisations of its kind, the AAPI represents more than 80,000 Indian-American doctors, who constitute the largest ethnic group of physicians in the US. "AAPI members, as a group, are over-represented in all the hotspot areas, as well as caring for underserved populations," he said. Early this week, Indian American nephrologist Priya Khanna, 43, died in a New Jersey hospital. Her father Satyendra Khanna (78), a general surgeon, has tested positive and is said to be in a critical condition in the intensive care unit in the same hospital. "Indian-American physicians are the real heroes. Many have become positive in the process, some have died, some are in ICU now and some are recuperating at home," AAPI vice president Dr Anupama Gotimukula said. Community leaders are praying for Dr Ajay Lodha, a former AAPI president, who has tested positive for COVID-19, has been hospitalised and now is in ICU in a New York hospital. Gastroenterologist Dr Anjana Samadder from Ohio, wife of former AAPI president Dr Gautam Sammader is also reported to be battling for her life. Another prominent Indian American physician Dr Sunil Mehra is said to be in serious condition. "They are bravely leading the enormous challenge of fighting COVID 19 pandemic at their own personal risk without a second thought, which speaks volumes for their compassion, commitment and sense of duty," Kolli said. According to the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Asian American are least impacted by coronavirus among various ethnic groups. According to a CDC data that was recently updated, they account for nearly 4.4 percent of the total infected cases. " The virus has killed more than 40,000 people in the US and over 7,63,000 have tested positive. Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi expressed his gratitude to the physicians and other healthcare professionals for their "dedication to the nation, for helping all to cope with the situation, guaranteeing the wellbeing of all". Like other generations, they prefer to live by their own values but prefer to live in a joint family,” he added, speaking at a webinar organised by Market Research Society of India (MRSI). “They come with an easy sense of entitlement that causes discomfort to the older generations,” said Anjana Pillai, partner, Quantum Consumer Solutions. Love thy parents But that doesn’t mean they do not get along with their parents. On the contrary, they have been raised through a more friendly parenting style, and are able to close the generation gap with their parents – becoming one of the first generations to do so. GenZs have been able to have a ‘reverse influence’ on their parents. “We hear of cases where many people in their 50s say that they chase their dreams because their children encouraged them to,” said Ashwini Sirsikar, group service line leader, Ipsos UU and SIA. This was clearly evident in the many parent-child duos that appeared on the business reality show Shark Tank India i<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/an-aai-and-two-college-dropouts-home-snacks-biz-sends-shark-tank-judges-into-a-bidding-war/articleshow/96784920.cms">ncluding Patil Kaki</a>, GetAWhey, House of Chikankari —indicating that the way ahead is a combination of old and new. “Parents are an important means for them to negotiate with society, and parents are their 4 am friends,” adds Pillai. East not West Westernisation had made its way to India before the country attained freedom, but GenZs might be the first to resist that. They’re not blindly aping the West, say experts. “Being Indian and Indianness is a big deal for them – it’s stylish and sexy. But they do not have blind love or hate for their country,” said Mukul Gautam, vice president and chief of capacity building at Purple Audacity. This change could have happened on the back of many success stories of Indians – such as startup founders, athletes, global politicians and not to forget the many Indian-origin chief executive officers leading global tech majors. Open to… everything Zoomers also have something in common with the older generations – they’re just as religious as the older generations, and are also open to the idea of arranged marriages. Their acceptance of arranged marriages, however, is more a swing towards openness than towards traditionalism. GenZs are open to everything. They’re morally fluid and a lot more experimental, and open to trying new things. The constant change around them has made them open to change — from education and personal relationships to consumption and personal identity, there is a desire to keep things open. “GenZ has lived through the narratives of climate change, socio-cultural-political instability, many movements, polarisation etc., which has tempered their optimism and made them very pragmatic and opportunistic,” says Gautam. However, this doesn’t have a bad connotation since they’re constantly evolving, questioning and pursuing multiple identities. “It’s not a passive quest either. As if on dopamine, they constantly look and learn,” says Pillai. Yet, there are pitfalls to being young in times like these, as they’re experiencing youth in a way no other generation ever did. Too many choices available too early, exacting demands from self and a perpetual quest for validation, especially on social media, are some of the reasons for the growing mental health problems. The GenZ, who was born right when the internet took off, however, is better equipped to deal with social media and pitfalls. “It’s not mindless browsing. Social media is used judiciously to create a carefully curated identity and for furthering their personal career aspirations,” says Sirsikar. While millennials are toggling between online and offline identities, GenZs are doing a better job of closing the gap — better prepared for the future that is turning virtual in a much bigger way.

Decoding GenZ: Highly individualistic and low on regrets - this generation has what it takes

Community plays an essential role in the lives of <keyword id="11911085" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="lgbtq" source="Orion">LGBTQ</keyword> folks. Amid a wave of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-employers-help-workers-affected-by-anti-lgbtq-news-bills-2022-6">anti-LGBTQ legislation</a>, <a href="https://www.insider.com/2021-deadliest-year-on-record-for-trans-people-2021-11">violence</a>, and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/patriot-front-extremists-arrested-riot-charges-outside-idaho-pride-event-2022-6">intimidation tactics</a>, spaces that provide a haven for queer people are much-needed emblems of solidarity and validation. The range of safe spaces for queer folks has changed over the years. In-person (or IRL, in real life) places of camaraderie and assistance — bars, social clubs, care facilities, etc. — are <a href="https://www.insider.com/lesbian-bars-us-lesbian-bar-project-2021-6">few and far between</a>. But notable spaces have emerged around the world: <a href="https://www.insider.com/a-safe-house-in-poland-offers-lgbtq-ukrainians-sanctuary-from-bombs-2022-3">a Poland safe house</a> for queer Ukrainian refugees, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/enkels-barbershop-brooklyn-queer-customers-2021-6">a queer-friendly Black barbershop</a> in Brooklyn, and neighborhoods in the Midwest that <a href="https://www.insider.com/tour-lgbtq-friendly-neighborhoods-new-york-detroit-chicago-2021-6">honor LGBTQ people</a>, to name a few.Meanwhile, online spaces have allowed those within the <keyword id="11994258" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="lgbtq-community" source="Orion">LGBTQ community</keyword> to transcend geography, reach one another globally, and build fellowship on digital platforms such as <a href="https://www.insider.com/trans-and-started-hrt-testosterone-reddit-more-helpful-than-doctor-2021-11">Reddit</a>, <a href="https://www.insider.com/tiktok-lesbians-queer-women-coming-out-algorithm-why-2022-3">TikTok</a>, and <a href="https://www.insider.com/queer-gay-youtubers-inspire-lgbtq-youth-to-express-themselves-2021-7">YouTube</a>. The harrowing efforts to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/drag-queens-children-lgbtq-right-wing-libsoftiktok-idaho-patriot-front2022-6">disparage the LGBTQ community</a> clearly indicate that there's still progress to be made, and it'd be remiss to not acknowledge that.
