Ecologists are starting to turn this idea on its head, revealing that boozy snacks are far more common in the wild than previously thought.<br /><h2>How animals stumble upon alcohol</h2>When fruits are left to ripen a little too long, especially when drenched in warm sunlight, they naturally ferment into a natural brew. Stories of “drunk” animals like elephants, monkeys, and birds toppling around after munching on <keyword id="23742494" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fermented-fruits" source="keywords">fermented fruits</keyword> have been around for ages, but scientists used to think these incidents were rare flukes. But now, they’re rethinking it.<br /><br />"We’re moving away from this anthropocentric view that ethanol is just something that humans use," says study author Kimberley Hockings. According to molecular ecologist Matthew Carrigan, animals prioritise the energy found in these boozy treats rather than the “fun” side effects. <br /><br />“From an ecological perspective, it is not advantageous to be inebriated as you're climbing around in the trees or surrounded by predators at night — that's a recipe for not having your genes passed on,” Carrigan points out. Unlike us humans, animals want the energy but prefer to skip the hangover.<br /><br />Interestingly, animals seem to be pretty well-equipped to handle alcohol. They’ve harboured genes that can degrade ethanol for millions of years, long before natural yeast even got into the game. Primates, birds, and tree shrews that enjoy fruit and nectar have evolved a strong tolerance for it, allowing them to take advantage of ethanol’s calories without too much of a head-spin.<br /><h2>Why do animals bother?</h2>It might seem counterintuitive, but ethanol could have a few perks for wild animals. It’s calorie-dense, helping to fuel their bodies when food is scarce, and some of the odorous byproducts of fermentation can act as a food signal. The ethanol seems to make their internal environment less hospitable to invaders, which is an intriguing example of self-medicating in the wild.<br /><br />“On the cognitive side, ideas have been put forward that ethanol can trigger the endorphin and dopamine system, which leads to feelings of relaxation that could have benefits in terms of sociality.” as behavioral ecologist Anna Bowland points out. You can imagine animals bonding over a boozy snack – kind of how humans sharing a beer!<br /><br />There’s still a lot we don’t know about how alcohol impacts animals in the wild. Do certain species seek it out more than others? Does ethanol consumption affect their social lives, family dynamics, or evolutionary adaptations? <ul class="summary-list"><li>US stocks raced to record highs after the 2024 presidential election concluded.</li><li>Investors seem certain that President-elect Donald Trump's policies are best for stocks.</li></ul><p>Wall Street is in love with Donald Trump, as if there was ever any doubt.</p><p>A robust, multi-year bull market rally for US stocks reached another gear after the businessman-turned-politician <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-wins-presidential-election-race-2024-11">won the presidential election</a>. The S&amp;P 500 just topped 6,000 for the first time ever, and the tech-focused Nasdaq Composite is also in uncharted territory.</p><p>Traders are convinced that the bulk of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-election-victory-impact-investments-costs-housing-taxes-childcare-2024-11">Trump's economic policies</a>, which include tax cuts and fewer government regulations, will create a business-friendly backdrop that drives stocks higher.</p><p>"Investor sentiment is pro-growth, pro-deregulation, and pro-markets," said David Bahnsen, the chief investment officer at The Bahnsen Group, in recent commentary sent to Business Insider.</p><h2 id="3e5bdf8a-fc97-4e3d-a950-f23703f0015e"><strong>'Animal spirits' have been unleashed</strong></h2><p>While some are skeptical of the consensus view, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/stock-market-outlook-trump-president-economy-tariffs-trade-war-kelly-2024-11">including those who are terrified about tariffs</a>, it looks as if investors broadly are scrambling to add exposure to equities. A staggering $22 billion flowed into exchange-traded funds on Wednesday, which was more than four times higher than the previous record for the day after the US election, according to State Street Global Advisors.</p><p>Markets may hate uncertainty even more than tax hikes, so it's possible that a Kamala Harris win also could have sparked a relief rally.</p><p>But that might dismiss how ecstatic big-money investors are about another Trump term, given that the S&amp;P 500 rose over 50% from his victory in 2016 until shortly before the pandemic.</p><p>"Business animal spirits could be rekindled once again from Trump's pro-business approach, which could lead to a more robust capital expenditures and investment environment," said Jeff Schulze, the head of economic and market strategy at ClearBridge Investments, in commentary.</p><p>That term, "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.investopedia.com/terms/a/animal-spirits.asp">animal spirits,</a>" was coined in the 1930s by famed economist John Maynard Keynes, who remarked that investors' decisions are often driven by intense emotions like greed and fear.</p><p>Anthony Saglimbene, Ameriprise's chief market strategist, borrowed Keynes' famous phrase to make the same point as Schulze: investors may be euphoric for the foreseeable future.</p><p>"Animal spirits through year-end could push major averages higher as the overhang of the election is removed and investors look to put excess cash to work in stocks," Saglimbene said in commentary.</p><h2 id="648d2368-71e0-40ed-9ed5-95b7faf9578c"><strong>How to invest after Trump's win</strong></h2><p>Although the US economy <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/economy-outlook-tariffs-trump-trade-war-slowdown-jpmorgan-david-kelly-2024-10">looks healthy by most measures</a>, many market strategists are counting on an even bigger boom under Trump that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/stocks-to-buy-election-investing-strategy-2016-comparison-morgan-stanley-2024-11">would benefit economically sensitive stocks</a>.</p><p>"This broad 'risk-on' mood for the U.S. stock market is cutting across all sectors, but particularly favoring more cyclically sensitive sectors that would benefit from a re-strengthening of the economy and tailwinds to corporate profitability," said Jim Baird, the chief investment officer at Plante Moran Financial Advisors, in written commentary sent to BI.</p><p>Sectors that are heavily reliant on economic growth, like <strong>energy</strong> and <strong>financials</strong>, will stay hot, said Sébastien Page, the head of global multi-asset at T. Rowe Price, in a recent interview.</p><p>"I don't think it's over the top," Page said of the postelection market rally.</p><p>Several of the strategists and investment chiefs that Business Insider leaned on for this story also cited <strong>small caps </strong>as a top idea, provided that the economy stays strong and taxes fall.</p><p>"Enough people had been worried about, 'Could we have a credit cycle? Could we have an economic slowdown into next year? What would increases in taxes and regulation do?'" said Sean Gallagher, the global head of Lazard's small-cap equity platform, in an interview.</p><p>He continued: "Now that's off the table. I think it just increases small-business optimism. I think it'll increase <a target="_blank" href="https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/capitalexpenditure.asp">CapEx</a>, which has been kind of held back."</p><p>Smaller companies performed admirably early on in Trump's first tenure, though <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cheap-stocks-to-buy-strong-growth-market-outlook-garp-bmo-2024-10">they've lagged large caps for years</a>. Gallagher is highly optimistic about the group again, both because of the economic environment and their valuations, which are <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/stocks-to-buy-small-mid-caps-market-rotation-outlook-bmo-2024-10">startlingly cheap relative to their peers</a>.</p><p>Schulze from ClearBridge is also aboard the cyclical and small caps train. The strategist is fired up about what Trump's penchant for lower taxes and limited regulations means for <strong>industrials,</strong> <strong>consumer discretionary</strong> stocks, and financials.</p><p>Saglimbene from Ameriprise concurred again that "the backdrop for financials could improve, as less regulation and the potential for merger/acquisition and capital market activity accelerate."</p><p>Add the <strong>technology</strong> sector to the list of winners from less governmental oversight, Bahnsen said. Tech companies seem like a clearer beneficiary since the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) should be less hostile to their interests.</p><p>For all the optimism in markets, some strategists are branching out from stocks.</p><p>Jim Thorne, who's the chief market strategist at Canada-based wealth management firm Wellington-Altus, said in commentary that he's most interested in <strong>gold</strong> and <strong>bitcoin</strong>, which some have referred to as the yellow metal's digital doppelgänger.</p><p>The world is awash with cash, making scarce assets like gold and bitcoin more valuable, and Thorne also noted that global economic growth is slowing. That suggests that the path forward for risk assets may not be smooth — even if Trump is successful in his second term.</p><p>"Investors should brace for volatility and shifts in market leadership as we transition to a peacetime economy, shaped by Trump's policies," Thorne said in written commentary.</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>At the edge of Serengeti National Park sits TAASA, a luxury safari lodge.</li><li>A night in one of the 540-square-foot canvas tents costs $985 a person.</li></ul><p>As the Toyota Land Cruiser begins its trek up to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.go2africa.com/accommodation/taasa-lodge#reviews">TAASA Lodge</a> in the northern part of Tanzania's Serengeti National Park, the sound of voices grows louder and louder.</p><p>Moments earlier, rattling glass soda bottles and creaky car noises drowned out surrounding bird calls and the rumbles from passing African bush elephants.</p><p>Now, all ears are on sing-songy voices and the distant beat of the drum.</p><p>As the faces of the singers come into view, their lyrics become clear: "Jambo. Jambo bwana. Habari gani? Mzuri sana."</p><p>While words like jambo — a Swahili greeting — were familiar, others were new to me.</p><p>Later, TAASA's lodge manager, May Simon, translated the song and shared why the lodge staff greets all visitors with the popular melody.</p><p>The beginning of the "Jambo Bwana" song translates to, "Hi, sir. How are you? Very fine. Visitors are welcome in our country. No worries."</p><p>But Simon said its meaning extends far beyond words.</p><p>"It's about the love," Simon said. At the front of the tent is a living area with a desk and an L-shaped couch. Two steps lead to an elevated bedroom area with a king-sized mattress sandwiched by nightstands. Behind the bed is the tent's bathroom with a two-sink vanity, shower, and toilet. </p><p>Throughout the space, natural elements like a wooden chandelier and stone shower remind guests of the natural world.</p><div type="image" title="The interior and exterior of the author's tent at TAASA Lodge." height="900" width="1200" msid="115309549" hostid="261" sizebytes="76432"></div><p>Guests are paired with a butler who coordinates schedules, serves meals, cleans laundry, and tidies rooms. Mikindo woke me up each morning with a cappuccino and left a hot water bottle in my bed each night.</p><p>At their core, the accommodations are still tents, which was a positive in my mind. It meant I still felt in tune with nature every moment I spent in the room. I fell asleep to the roars of nearby lions, and one afternoon, I watched a family of baboons use my patio like a playground and my tent supports like a fireman's pole.</p><div type="image" title="The tent had 180-degree views of the surrounding nature." height="1289" width="1935" msid="115309550" hostid="261" sizebytes="130224"></div><p>In addition to the 12 identical tents, there is a main lodge where meals are served and unlimited drinks are poured.</p><p>Here, the space oozes warmth. For 2025, nightly rates are $1,060 per person.</p><p>Additionally, guests pay a TAASA concession fee, a 1% tourism development levy, government taxes, and Serengeti National Park fees, which total around $150 per person a night. Business Insider received a media rate for the two-night stay.</p><div type="image" title="My guide and tracker in the morning light." height="1365" width="1820" msid="115309560" hostid="261" sizebytes="99674"></div><h2 id="817c3b7c-8376-480e-9671-d8130d884953">I spent two days spotting Tanzania's wildlife</h2><p id="817c3b7c-8376-480e-9671-d8130d884953">While it was tempting to spend mornings sipping coffee on my tent's veranda or afternoons lounging near the pool, the true highlight of TAASA is its game drives.</p><p id="817c3b7c-8376-480e-9671-d8130d884953">The lodge sits near three ecosystems: the Serengeti National Park, the Maasai Mara National Reserve, and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.</p><p>For two full days, Logolie Milya guided me on game drives alongside tracker Sam.</p><p>This was my first lodge during my seven-night trip in the Serengeti, and I failed to realize how spoiled I was at TAASA.</p><p>Since it sits in a game reserve, not a national park, we could off-road and see animals up close and personal in our open-sided vehicles. One morning, we approached a male and female lion lounging in the sun; that afternoon, we watched a leopard carry its kill into the branches of a kigelia tree.</p><div type="image" title="A pair of zebras and a lion in the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania." height="900" width="1200" msid="115309548" hostid="261" sizebytes="153358"></div><p>What I didn't see were many other game vehicles. For major sightings — like a black rhino or our leopard spotting — Milya would call in the location to other guides, which meant two or three vehicles might pull up for the viewing. Beyond that, we were solo for the vast majority of the trip.</p><p>Later, when I stayed at a lodge in central Serengeti, I learned how intimate my TAASA viewings were. In the more populated parts of the national park, my guide and I would join crowds of 12-plus vehicles for a cheetah spotting or sit in a line of Range Rovers waiting for a chance to see a leopard.</p><p>The advantages of staying at TAASA continued as the sun set. In Serengeti National Park, night game drives aren't permitted. But since TAASA isn't in the park, you can track animals into the evening.</p><p>Night game drives are an entirely different experience. Sam sat at the front of the vehicle with a large light, scanning the distance for eyes and animals. We spotted two lions on the move — a drastic change from the lazy, lounging lions we had watched earlier in the afternoon. But beyond that, Mikindo became a smiling face eager to hear about the giraffe I spotted crossing the Mara River and dive into stories about his family and childhood.</p><p id="e8f9e8ad-f867-4393-afba-9be55eeccf6c">I spent days with Milya and Sam, sharing anecdotes, laughing, and asking endless questions. Milya shared insight into how his childhood growing up in a Maasai village equipped him with the instincts and knowledge to be a guide. Sam told stories about his brothers and sisters who live in the nearby Ololosokwan village.</p><p id="e8f9e8ad-f867-4393-afba-9be55eeccf6c">Simon said her goal as the lodge manager is to "always try to make sure guests leave with a memory. Try to capture their hearts."</p><p id="e8f9e8ad-f867-4393-afba-9be55eeccf6c">As I left TAASA, I found myself stuck singing "Jambo Bwana" throughout the rest of my Tanzania trip. I whispered the words to myself on game drives and woke up to the lyrics in my mind some mornings.</p><p>With those words came images of TAASA — the welcoming staff, the adrenaline-inducing game drives, and the serene landscapes.</p>

The box set also features characters from "Arcane" like Jinx, Vi, Mel and Caitlyn.</p><p>Products offered under the new collection include five limited edition shades of Fenty's existing "Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer." The new shades are "Kaboom," "Rebel Rais'r," "Risky Rulin,'" "Rogue On Riche$," and "Morphic Melt," and range from shimmery gold to hot fuchsia.</p><p>The line also includes products like a cobalt blue mascara, a gold highlighter, and a gold liquid eyeliner.</p><p> "I've always been inspired by powerful women and storytelling, and Arcane really brings that to life," Priscilla Ono, a makeup artist from Fenty Beauty, said of the collaboration in a video released by the makeup brand last week.</p><p>"In collaboration with Arcane, I wanted to capture the essence of its characters through makeup," she added.</p><p>In the promotional video, Ono and Riot Games' creative producer Kiahna Manker further discussed how Fenty-style designs made it into the season's art.</p><p>The duo talked about how Vi, one of the series' core characters, had a distinct makeup design that artists incorporated into its art boards.</p><p>The "Arcane" vault retails for $250. A major controversy has erupted surrounding the renowned <keyword id="23237741" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tirupati-laddu" source="keywords">Tirupati laddu</keyword>, a sacred offering from the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple in Andhra Pradesh, after allegations surfaced about the use of animal fat in its preparation. The samples, collected in July 2024, were reportedly found to contain these animal-derived fats instead of pure cow ghee, sparking outrage among devotees.<br /><br />"The lab reports certify that beef tallow, animal fat, lard, and fish oil were used in the preparation of ghee, which was supplied to Tirumala. Maybe three, four, or five other homes," he added.</p><p>Chesky said that <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/airbnb-commercial-hosting-causing-mess-for-rental-housing-market-2022-7">professional third-party property management companies</a> often have grand ambitions.</p><p>"You tend to need economies of scale, so you're going to be managing hundreds of properties, even thousands of properties," he told Verge editor-in-chef Nilay Patel. "If you manage thousands of properties, now you have a whole bunch of employees. Then, you probably have a company name, and your employees probably wear a T-shirt with a company name on the T-shirt."</p><p>But that growth and professionalization don't necessarily translate into guest satisfaction.</p><p>Chesky said that the average review score for listings run by third-party managers was 4.62 out of five stars, which Chesky described as "significantly below the median range review score."</p><p>In recent years, professional hosts with a large number of listings have played a significant role in the market as investors and third-party managers scaled up the number of properties on their rosters.</p><p>In September, short-term-rental analytics site AirDNA <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.airdna.co/blog/the-best-airbnb-property-management-services">reported</a> that across Airbnb and its rival Vrbo, property managers with more than 21 active listings controlled 28% of all active listings and generated 36% of the industry's total revenue.</p><p>Chesky said on the podcast that small-scale <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hosts-contributed-to-airbnb-downfall-experts-fees-high-costs-say-2024-8">hosts</a> are more likely to offer a "local feel," an experience more aligned with <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-airbnb-was-founded-a-visual-history-2016-2">the company's original purpose</a>.</p><p>"It kind of moves Airbnb a little closer toward the roots," he said.</p><p>In the company's third-quarter <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/airbnb-earnings-shares-most-interesting-things-cohost-2024-11">earnings call</a> Thursday, Chesky announced that the Co-Host Network debuted on October 16 with 10,000 cohosts already registered. No matter if I was swinging or stationary, the nearby screams of the Incredicoaster, a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/theme-parks-not-accessible-larger-bodies-2023-7">roller coaster</a> situated next to the Pixar Pal-A-Around, tainted the otherwise peaceful scenery. </p><p>If you want a relaxing alternative, I recommend the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/disneyland-cast-member-favorite-things-to-do-2022-2">Monorail</a>, a 13-minute-long transportation system that gives passengers scenic views of the park.</p><h2><strong>Steer clear of Fantasyland, a stroller central</strong></h2><p>It's nearly impossible to avoid crowds at Disneyland, but Fantasyland is the one place that's guaranteed to be packed for the majority of the day. </p><p>I quickly learned that this area is a hub for parents and animation-loving children and, as a result, is often filled with tons of strollers and babies learning how to walk. It's adorable for a moment but can quickly become frustrating as you try to comfortably make your way through Fantasyland. </p><p>Traffic jams here are worse than on the I-10 during rush hour. Try to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-to-skip-at-disney-world-disneyland">avoid Fantasyland</a> until the end of the day, when it's slightly less crowded, or if you want to move through rides and attractions quickly, steer clear of this area altogether.</p><h2><strong>Don't shop for merch until you're on your way out of the park</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="The writer poses with several pieces of Disney merchandise" height="902" width="1200" msid="115091543" hostid="261" sizebytes="112178"></div><p>Trust me, I understand the urge to make a beeline for the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/things-you-should-not-buy-at-disney-according-to-former-employee">gift shops</a>. There might be that one piece of merch that you have to have or even a new limited-edition popcorn bucket.</p><p>Treat yourself to all of the goodies but don't buy them right when you enter the park. There are few things worse than lugging your merchandise around and then eventually feeling pressured to purchase a locker or leave the park to store your new items in your car.</p><p>Figuring out how to comfortably carry and store your merch can take away precious time in the park so if you're planning on buying items, especially bulky objects like lightsabers and drink sippers, save it for the end of your day.</p><h2><strong>Avoid the Mickey &amp; Friends parking structure</strong></h2><p>No matter where you <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/visiting-disney-first-time-tips-2018-7">park at Disneyland</a>, there will likely be many cars already there. However, you do have a few options when it comes to parking.</p><p>If you drive a standard-sized vehicle, a <a href="https://disneyland.disney.go.com/guest-services/parking/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$30 parking voucher</a> will get you into the Mickey &amp; Friends, Pixar Pals, and Toy Story lots. Out of the three, I've found that Mickey &amp; Friends is the most well-known and crowded parking structure.</p><p>I recommend the Toy Story lot, which is also a designated parking area for oversize vehicles and buses and allows for a shorter walk to the entrance gate. This lot is less popular among guests, so you might even find the parking spot of your dreams.</p><h2><strong>Don't wait at City Hall for a minor issue or question </strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="The writer in Disney uniform at information desk" height="2274" width="3024" msid="115091545" hostid="261" sizebytes="154924"></div><p>Please don't spend an hour <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/disneyland-low-wait-time-rides-2019-5">standing in line</a> at City Hall for a birthday button.</p><p>Disney's City Hall, a guest-relations center, offers assistance regarding disability services, Disneyland app troubleshooting, itinerary planning, and day-of park issues, so it's usually very busy.</p><p>Since this center is typically bombarded with guests with high-priority issues, I recommend going somewhere else for general questions or minor matters.</p><p>There are so many guest relations locations throughout the park staffed with employees who can help you. Be polite and avoid taking a million photos if you can see that others are waiting.</p><h2>Being rude to cast members is never cool</h2><p>After a long, hot day with a few screaming kids, I can understand how anyone would be a little on edge. But that doesn't give you an excuse to yell at the park employee taking your lunch order or the one <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/which-disney-world-souvenirs-worth-it-former-cast-member">ringing up your souvenirs</a>.</p><p>We're all here to help guests create lasting memories, and trust me, you'll get further with honey than you will with vinegar — especially at Disney World.</p><h2>Don't stop and look at your phone in the middle of a crowded area</h2><div type="image" title="Disney World" height="3642" width="4857" msid="114957210" hostid="261" sizebytes="2273042"></div><p>This might <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/things-i-never-do-at-disney-world-frequent-visitor">sound like a no-brainer</a>, but you'd be surprised at how many people walk down Main Street in Magic Kingdom glued to their phones or looking everywhere but the direction they're going.</p><p>Pay attention in crowded spaces to avoid rolling your ankle, knocking over someone's overpriced coffee, or holding up other guests.</p><h2>Stop using flash photography on dark rides</h2><p>Many of the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/favorite-rides-at-disney-world-best-and-worst">rides at Disney World</a>, such as Space Mountain and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, are dark inside. </p><p>It's understandable that you want to remember all the cool details, but try to appreciate the moment. Using a blinding flash can ruin the experience for other riders.</p><h2>Don't wait until you're at the front of the line to look at a menu</h2><div type="image" title="hand holding a yellow cocktail in epcot at disney world" height="721" width="960" msid="114957279" hostid="261" sizebytes="36250"></div><p>I spent eight months working at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Café in Tomorrowland, so I can tell you firsthand that those workers are moving as fast as they can.</p><p>If you wait until you get to the front of the line to inquire about dietary restrictions or ask about <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-cheap-food-in-disney-world-by-park-photos">every item on the menu</a>, you'll probably annoy everyone waiting behind you.</p><h2>Putting characters in uncomfortable situations isn't funny</h2><p>I've seen far too many cringey videos of guests bombarding <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-its-really-like-auditioning-to-work-at-disney-2022-3">Disney character performers</a> with inappropriate questions, demanding them to remove their characters' heads, or just making them uncomfortable.</p><p>They're working and will do their best to stay in character to create magical moments for guests, so don't go out of your way to make their jobs harder.</p><h2>Stop littering — there are trash cans everywhere</h2><p>Disney World is surprisingly clean for the foot traffic the parks get daily, and it's largely due to the custodial employees who work their butts off.</p><p>No matter where you are in any park, I guarantee <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/meet-disney-world-most-famous-trash-can-binny-d3-2023-9">there's a trash can</a> somewhere nearby.</p><p>Do your part to keep the parks clean by putting your trash where it belongs. But if they're screaming about how much they don't want to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cool-facts-about-all-the-disney-world-rides">ride the Tower of Terror</a>, you should probably listen to them.</p><p>All you're doing by forcing them to go on a "scary" ride is guaranteeing a bad time for yourself, your child, and every other guest who must endure their wails of protest.</p><h2>Don't expect to sit with your whole party if you opt for the single-rider line</h2><p>As someone who absolutely <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/skip-the-fireworks-show-at-disney-world-2021-10">hates waiting in lines</a>, I'm a big fan of rides like Test Track and Expedition Everest because they offer single-rider lanes. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Portland airport is using llamas and alpacas for stress relief at its terminals.</li><li>Travel anxiety is common, and fears like missing boarding can worsen mental health conditions.</li></ul><p>An airport in Oregon is trying to ease nervous flyers' concerns by providing them with access to an unusual <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/surprising-therapy-and-emotional-support-animals-2020-4">animal therapy program.</a></p><p>Portland International Airport says it has partnered with Mountain Peaks Therapy to bring llamas and alpacas into its terminals every few weeks, hoping to alleviate some of the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/airport-tips-travel-expert-samantha-brown-2024-6">stress associated with air travel</a>, according to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.npr.org/sections/shots-health-news/2024/11/03/nx-s1-5173755/therapy-animals-portland-airport-llama-alpaca">NPR</a>.</p><p>The farm, based in Ridgefield, Washington, has five llamas and six alpacas, which it says are certified to interact with passengers in a calming manner. Its website <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://classycamelids.com/pricing">says</a> it costs about $650 an hour per animal.</p><p>Studies have shown that animal therapy has <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5504801/">minor to moderately positive effects</a> on those struggling with an array of mental illnesses, though academics say more research needs to be done on its efficacy.</p><p><a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.uclahealth.org/programs/pac/about-us/animal-assisted-therapy-research">According to UCLA Health</a>, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/health/mental-health/emotional-support-animal">animal therapy</a> can promote the release of mood-boosting hormones, lower anxiety, and provide a "happy distraction."</p><p>Most existing studies are focused on therapy dogs, which are increasingly being used in airports, such as <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://mediacentre.stanstedairport.com/therapy-dogs-paws-itively-delight-passengers/">London Stansted</a> and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/articles/cv205z3ndkjo">Istanbul Airport.</a></p><p>Although the use of llamas and alpacas is more unusual, Allison Ferre, a spokesperson for the Port of Portland, told NPR that it's just one initiative aimed at addressing the stress associated with air travel.</p><p>Another involved redesigning the airport to include trees, according to NPR.</p><p>The Port of Portland did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.</p><p>Denver International Airport has the world's largest animal therapy program, for which it was awarded the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/687319-largest-airport-therapy-animal-programme">Guinness World Record in 2021</a>.</p><p>A <a target="_blank" href="https://affiliate.insider.com?h=eceac68b5e5b0722d58db39ac4e9495b2b7de9f74412fda029f1a6663a285a1d&amp;postID=6728b20c06a260ef18e8c1ca&amp;postSlug=portland-airport-uses-llamas-for-stress-relief-ease-travel-anxiety-2024-11&amp;site=bi&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.prioritypass.com%2Fblog%2F2019%2Fairport-stress-survey">2019 survey of UK passengers by Priority Pass</a>, a program that provides access to airport lounges, found that the biggest <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/flying-becoming-more-miserable-climate-crisis-delays-costs-turbulence-2024-8">anxieties about travel</a> are getting stuck on the way to the airport, losing baggage, missing boarding, or misplacing passports.</p><p>According to Mintel, a market research company, nearly half (45%) of US airport travelers surveyed in 2022 reported that they found airport crowds to be a major source of stress, the company said in an email to BI.</p><p><a target="_blank" class="" href="https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/page/mental-health">The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention</a> said that travel-related stress can be a trigger for those with pre-existing mental illnesses, including depression and anxiety.</p>
