But the one 90s icon that needs no formal introduction is Anil – ‘My Name Is Lakhan’ – Kapoor. From serenading Madhuri Dixit in the iconic Dhak Dhak song in Beta in 1992, Kapoor’s joie de vivre makes him the rightful successor of the evergreen Jitendra, who was not only nicknamed the Jumping Jack after his high-octane energy but also endorsed vitality pills called 30 Plus for decades. Kapoor’s performance in the Night Manager as the all powerful arms dealer Shelly Rungta is about perfect paradoxes – in one instant he charms birds or should we say birdies and in the next instant effortlessly kills with his bare hands (and a little help of a writing instrument) and yet there isn’t a spot of blood on his bespoke cream suit. He pulls off the over the top scenes with the same conviction as he played the role of an autistic man in Eeshwar. When it comes to dialogue delivery and style, there is none that even comes close to <keyword id="6354700" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="anil-kapoor" source="Orion">Anil Kapoor</keyword>. A paisa vasool moment in the mini series is when AK, in his laconic drawl, advises Aditya Roy Kapur, who essays the role of a soldier/hotel manager turned reluctant spy, to never know the real man behind the expensive suit. Remakes are generally tough acts to follow, especially if the original’s cast toplines Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman, Hugh Laurie, Elizabeth Debicki and is directed by Oscar winner Susanne Bier. Attempting remakes of popular shows or movies is not for the faint hearted, look no further than last year’s epic disaster Lal Singh Chaddha – a remake of the iconic Tom Hanks-starrer Forrest Gump. But Anil Kapoor has managed to duck this trend not once but twice. Kapoor was a part of another global series called 24 and played the lead character in its Hindi avatar too. Both mini series have enthralled audiences primarily because of the 66-year old actor, who still looks convincing as an eight-year old child’s father. Kapoor eases in viewers with his easygoing charm in the first part of the series, where he is mostly seen enjoying the high life with his arm candy Kaveri (Sobhita Dhulipala) in his yacht, private jets and mansions. He is the classic modern-day archetype of Ravan, who also lives in Lanka. As the father of Rhea and Sonam Kapoor, much loved fashion icons, Anil Kapoor does not disappoint. In fact, he has his fashion chops in place alright with his bespoke suits and carefully crushed linen shirts. But there’s more to the concluding part of the mini series than Anil Kapoor’s sartorial style. Kapoor completely dominates the second part of the Hindi remake of the Night Manager with his menacing presence. Kapoor dominates not just the screen. There’s something particularly appealing about the bad boys of spy thrillers, but he upstages Aditya Roy Kapur, who is the undercover agent Shaan Sengupta inside Shelly Rungta’s Golden Lanka. Kapur is the good guy who pretends to go rogue as he works with RAW agent Tillotama Shome to uncover Shelly’s unholy arms business that spreads from West Asia through Myanmar and Bangladesh. The second part of the series circles back to Dhaka, where it all began with the death of Safina, a minor girl trapped in a marriage with an underworld don. The storytelling of the Hindi Night Manager is by and large straight out of the playbook of any spy thriller, barring some underwhelming performances. The tomfoolery by the two RAW agents are cringe-worthy and not binge worthy. The lean and mean avatar of Aditya Roy Kapur is welcome after his movie Gumraah. ARK fails to charm or impress with his revenge but Kapoor does both in equal measure as the villain. Give us bad boys any day.

Among these investors is a group of people who are worshipped by fans in India and abroad for their onscreen performances and off-screen antics. They are none other than Bollywood stars who have awed audiences with their stellar performances over the years and amassed the kind of wealth that mere humans can only dream of. 
 
After carving out successful film careers for themselves and cementing their position as top stars in the film industry, these actors are now putting their money where it matters. 
 
A common perception about rich people is that when they want to invest their money, they either purchase an expensive car, or a high-end property in a certain corner of the world. For some of the most famous Bollywood stars, Dubai is that corner of the world where properties offer them the best rates and rental yields anywhere in the world. 
 
According to leading UAE portal <a href="https://www.bayut.com/">Bayut.com</a>, average apartment rental yields in Dubai remained close to 5.5% in February 2016, although they went as high as 7.6% for studio apartments, the most popular apartment renting category. These lucrative yields have been the reason thousands of investors converge in Dubai each year, and Indian celebrities couldn’t be far behind, especially when Indian urban centers are become expensive by the day. 
 
Smart move 
 
Catching a whiff of the situation, real estate developers in Dubai have turned towards Indian sports stars and Bollywood celebrities to help them lure in wealthy Indian expatriates to invest in their development projects. The stars also make investments in the UAE, particularly Dubai, in a bid to add value to their capital while also acting as brand ambassadors for different developers. 
 
Keeping Indian investor culture alive, the latest addition to the long list of Bollywood stars who have purchased some of the finest properties in the emirate is Anil Kapoor, from the Slumdog Millionaire. 
 
Kapoor recently purchased a two-bed apartment in Danube Properties’ Ritz project in Al Furjan. The actor said this his decision was influenced by good property prices in Dubai which provide heartening yields. 
 
According to statistics revealed by Dubai Land Department, the total number of investments in the emirate’s realty sector in 2015 amounted to AED 135 billion. Out of this, around AED 74 billion investments were made by non-Arab investors. Sitting on top of this list were Indians who made transactions worth AED 20 billion in the emirate’s realty sector. 
 
Before Kapoor, other Bollywood stars had landed sought after properties in posh localities of Dubai. Sharukh Khan’s K-93 villa is located at the Al Khasab Cove of the Palm Jumeirah. The two-levels of development are spread over 8,500 square feet and 14,000 square feet plots respectively and houses all modern living facilities available at present. 
 
Similarly, Bollywood power couple Abhishek and Aiswarya Bachchan, the torch-bearers of the powerful Bachchan family of Bollywood, bought a villa in Sanctuary Falls, Jumeirah Golf Estates. The villa comes with landscaped gardens and a resort style swimming pool and its price is thought to be worth somewhere between AED 15 to 35 million. 
 Moreover, joining these famous faces from the world of celluloid is Bollywood star of yesteryears, namely Shilpa Shetty. Until recently she owned a two-bedroom apartment in the Burj Khalifa, which she later sold out. Nonetheless, Shetty still endorses <keyword id="3360361" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="property-investments-in-dubai">property investments in Dubai</keyword> in the capacity of a brand ambassador for renowned developers. 
 
After coming of age, real estate developers in Dubai were quick to realise the importance of attaching recognizable names with their brand, knowing well that a famous resident in their community will attract more investors to their projects, thus giving a boost to the emirate’s realty sector. To target investors in the South Asian market, Bollywood stars have proven to be the natural choice for most developers based in Dubai. 
 
Looking at the present situation, it is unlikely that the culture of Bollywood investments in Dubai will discontinue in the future since stars now realise that they can live quality luxurious life at a fraction of the cost of most Indian cities. Also, keeping in mind the flight time of two-and-a-half hours from Mumbai to Dubai, Bollywood stars have the added option to head out to the emirate over the weekend to lounge at their coveted properties, unwind from their hectic film shooting schedule and bask in the warmth of their savvy investments.

However, she grew up with a singular dream of becoming a radio jockey. She was quick to realise that radio isn’t for her and decided to shift her focus to content creation in 2015. The downside of that was that I didn’t give myself enough opportunities to explore anything else. So when I became a radio jockey, I quickly realised that I suck. My bosses were not happy and when they replaced me, I felt like I understood why they did that. For the first time in my life, I felt lost. I had no idea what to do next.” When the opportunity of YouTube came by, which was considered as a second option or a ‘hobby’ back then, Prajakta gave it her all. Since then, she likes to take each day as it comes. “I held onto YouTube because I didn’t have another plan. I got a chance to start again and this time, I decided to not make concrete plans. I don’t want to know what my future will look like. I started off YouTube very seriously, I quit everything for it. I told my parents that I just need one year to figure out YouTube and if I don’t, I will look at more options. I looked at it as a serious career option and I am glad that I did. It is the best thing that happened,” adds Prajakta. Even today, Prajakta confesses that her parents struggle to explain her work profile to their relatives if the questions pops up -- they simply open her YouTube channel to demonstrate what she does. Her first video that ever went viral was ‘10 Hilarious Words Delhi People Use’ and gave her channel the first, massive push. She went from 2,000 to 30,000 subscribers in a month’s time after that video and she saw her dream getting a little clearer in her head every day as realised the mighty power of YouTube. The very first brand she got to work with was Yatra.com. While there are no particularly fixed ingredients that she tries to include in every video, there is a filter that tries to stick to: “I always wanted to create content that everyone will enjoy. And I would never tell a sexist, classist, any kind of phobic content at the expense of a joke. I never want to make anyone uncomfortable with my content. Some of my videos are even watched by people in their 70s and 80s. I remember meeting a grandma with her grandson at Comic Con in Hyderabad who bought the ticket herself to my concert just to see me.” <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Winning an Emmy" text="Winning an Emmy">Winning an Emmy</cmsannotation> Prajakta is already transcending across borders as two of her films, one short film and a documentary have been recognised globally. Her YouTube documentary ‘<keyword id="11579227" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Creators-for-Change">Creators For Change</keyword>’ gave her an opportunity to work with Michelle Obama, Liza Koshy and Thembe Mahlaba. They track the experiences of adolescent girls in Vietnam, India, and Namibia overcoming adversity to pursue their education. Besides that, her short film 'Khayali Pulao' was screened at the New York Indian Film Festival in June 2021. Looking back at her journey and these huge milestones today, Prajakta feels a bit of extreme gratitude and shock. She shares, “It is unbelievable. I feel some part of my brain just refuses to process it, which comes and goes. It made me uncomfortable at first. I kept wondering why can’t I process it? I should be jumping and screaming. I just want to sit still for 10 minutes and then I just simply got back to work. This also happened when I first spoke at Comic-Con. When I first heard that we got nominated at Emmys, my brain just stopped working then. I was happy with the nomination and then the documentary went on to win an Emmy! Emmy was never even in the vicinity of my plans or thoughts.” On whether becoming a global icon was always a part of her plan, she says, “Now it is a part of my plan. I didn’t know that I could do it. I am loving the reactions my documentary and short film have received, but I am not really jotting down my plans. Every day of my past six years has been different from each other.” In India, she has also set her foot into Bollywood with her movie Jug Jugg Jeeyo featuring Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani. She does see herself partaking in more feature films now and plans to keep exploring more acting options as they come but Youtube will always be her first baby. She says, “I always liked acting, I was in theatre in college and the first time I performed, there was this mad adrenaline rush of amusement that I felt. But radio was always part of the plan and I stopped acting after college. There were a few professional Marathi shows that I was a part of, it was pretty serious. However, I was hell-bent on becoming a radio jockey so I didn’t think twice before letting that go. After Khayali Pulao, Mismatched and now, Jug Jug Jeeyo, I feel I have tasted blood and I cannot stop. So, I definitely want to act more. I love being on set and it is Dharma! Telling us about her lows, Prajakta says, “It has happened to me so many times. It threw me off the first time, which was in 2017, I thought to myself, is it time for me to shut my channel? But I soon realised that it is a part of my job. I just had to make peace with the fact that not every piece of content I upload will work because my audience is changing, growing everyday and so is the platform. I am changing everyday, too. There are things that I wouldn’t like today from my past and I just have to accept that and find my way around it. Right now, content blocks and I are not friends but we are acquaintances and we can exist in the same room. I used to get very scared before and now I have realised that I only come out of it stronger.” Prajakta has seen lots of ups and downs in her career but she never gave up. It was an innovative strategy to get an offering, which not too many people know about or even feel the need for, get noticed. In the past few years and especially after the pandemic, there has been an increase in people understanding the importance of buying insurance. However, pet insurance is still a very new category, one that people might not even think they need yet. In the past too, the brand has launched offerings around mental health. In fact, its campaign from last year was much talked about. The brand believes in taking a right-brained marketing approach, focusing more on building an emotional connect with its consumers rather than talking about its features and functions. We recently caught up with Ruchika Malhan Varma, Chief Marketing Officer, Future Generali India Insurance to talk about its recent campaign along with their larger marketing strategies. Excerpts: Q) Your recent campaign for your dog insurance offering with a takeover of Rohit Sharma's profile was interesting. Was it able to have the desired effect of capturing the audience's attention? Our Pet Dog Health cover campaign, #OhMyDog launched through a takeover of Rohit Sharma’s handle with a series of mischievous tweets that created intrigue. Day 1 was witness to a series of tweets that read: ‘Cricket balls are edible – right?’ And ‘I love coin tosses…especially when they end up in my belly!’ etc. leaving cricket fans wondering what was going on with the captain! Many, in fact went on to speculate if his account was hacked garnering over 60k responses to the tweets and various memes being created. In fact, the word ‘hacked’ was trending on Twitter, and the unusual nature of Tweets captured the attention of various media houses. In short, the campaign broke the internet. The subsequent day we unveiled the campaign with the captain admitting that his account was taken over by his dog, Magic. As a dog parent, he further re-iterated that you can rest easy even if your dogs end up getting into situations which may potentially be dangerous, as long as they are secured with the right health insurance cover. This campaign helped us break the clutter and grab the attention of pet parents for a category as niche as this. For many, it was a new awakening to sit up, take notice and realize that if one can insure the health of their dear ones’ then why not of their pet dogs who are also an integral part of one’s family. Q)Not too many brands offer pet insurance in India. What is the market for the segment? How has the reception to the offering been so far? India is the largest growing pet market in the world. 85% of the total pet market in India is dominated by dogs alone, with 3 crore pet dogs in the <a href="https://www.televisory.com/blogs/-/blogs/indian-pet-care-industry-analysis" data-type="tilCustomLink">country</a>. The pet care market is approximately Rs 400 crore in size and is expected to grow at <a href="https://business.mapsofindia.com/insurance/pet-insurance.html" data-type="tilCustomLink">~14% a year</a>. This spells the potential for dog health insurance in India. There is a huge need to fulfil the gap as far as Dog health insurance is concerned. It therefore presents to us a unique opportunity to reach out to a growing number of pet parents in the country, with a comprehensive health cover for their pets who are an integral part of their families. The initial reaction to the product and the campaign has been overwhelming. We will continue to focus on creating awareness of this new category amongst pet parents through a sharply targeted multi-channel digital media strategy on social media, online pet supply stores, geo fenced mobile plans and amplification through pet trainers and canine influencers. This coupled with innovative and relevant distribution infrastructure, seamless on-boarding and hassle-free claims experience will help build the category, which is currently in a very nascent stage. With increasing awareness amongst pet parents, and a proposition that helps them with a comprehensive Dog Health cover, we do expect this category to grow substantially over the next few years. Q) Are you also looking at expanding your dog insurance to other pets too? As a brand, we believe in being a lifetime partner to our customers and ensuring that their needs are fulfilled at every stage of their lifecycle with us. We are constantly on the lookout for innovative product propositions to cater to newer and emerging micro segments. Given the current size and growth potential of the dog insurance segment we were keen to present a comprehensive health protection solution for pet dogs. We will continue to explore the pet segment further and introduce offerings that are in line with our customers evolving lifestyle needs. Q) In the last few years, Future Generali has revamped its marketing approach and it seems to be much quirkier and younger. Can you walk me through the evolution of your marketing strategies? Traditionally, insurance as a category has appealed to those in the 35+ age bracket in keeping with their evolving responsibilities and health challenges. However, 65% of India is below 35 years of age. Bringing these younger customers into the fold of insurance has been challenging, as consumer behavior shows that they don’t find the category relevant to their needs. At FGII, we warmed up to this opportunity early on - right from understanding our millennial customer better, designing relevant propositions that speak to the lifestyle needs of this segment, re-orienting our brand messages and tonality to resonate with this audience and being seen in media such as social media, OTT platforms, digital news, and search, where this audience is present. This meant a 360-degree re-orientation to our marketing approach. Our brand was consciously orchestrated towards aligning with the younger audience – we were at the forefront of bringing alive conversations around mental health which is affecting people across all age groups including the young, or <keyword id="6354700" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="anil-kapoor" source="Orion">Anil Kapoor</keyword> and Slow Cheetah rapping the benefits of our unique Health Super Saver policy. Our endeavor was to ensure that the messaging resonates with this audience and promotes brand cut through and stickiness. Besides motor and health, we are consciously looking at covering the lifestyle of the audience. FG Dog Health Cover, our latest offering is a case in point - a unique proposition that has been designed keeping in mind the increase in pet parents over the last 2 years. We believe this opens up a new segment for insurance in India and will bring customers into the fold who may have never interacted with insurance category, and thereby increase the penetration of insurance in the country. While onboarding a young customer was important, being able to service them to their comfort also meant putting in place the required infrastructure towards making ourselves available digitally and providing digital self-servicing platforms which have a higher adoption from this audience. Over the years we have seen success in attracting the younger demographic to the brand, in fact we are an industry outlier in this regard. Q) What do you think you have got right in the insurance industry when it comes to your marketing approach? Our brand promise is to be a lifetime partner for our customers, leading with innovation, simplicity, and human touch. These values come to play across all our strategic decision making that concerns our customers. In keeping with this objective, our product journey is stimulated by a deep understanding of customer insights. We invest in carefully listening to our customer and fulfilling said and sometimes unsaid but deeply felt need gaps. The disruptive and relatable product propositions that have our customers buy-in, is a result of knowing our customers well. We focus on the right brained marketing approach vs left brained, which is feature-focused and functional. A right brain marketing approach has helped us create communication that is thought provoking, insightful and has helped us build an emotional connect with our audience. We have disrupted category codes of selling fear and using tear jerkers to promote the category. In contrast, our messaging and tonality has always been positive and insightful. We remained focused on leveraging cultural codes and insights, which has helped us build a strong brand affinity with our customers. While doing so, we kept ourselves focused on providing a seamless customer experience across their entire life cycle with us. Resultantly, our customer satisfaction scores measured via The Net Promoter Score (NPS) continue to be gold standard across the industry. Q) Your campaign on mental health last year was well-received. What kind of consumer response have you seen to it? India has a large unaddressed mental health problem. WHO estimates that one in every five Indians is suffering from some kind of mental health issue, made only worse by the pandemic situation. Unfortunately, discussing mental illness has traditionally been considered a taboo in India. As a brand whose purpose is to be a lifetime partner for the customer and lead with empathy, innovation, and human touch we realized the importance of bringing conversations around mental health to our living rooms. In keeping with this objective, FGII has been at the helm of driving and normalizing conversations around mental health in India through its various marketing campaigns. From roping in fitness influencers and celebrities to rolling out impactful multi-video campaigns like #HealthInsideOut, ‘Mind Matters’ and #UnmaskYourFeelings we have propelled a movement urging all Indians to take their mental health seriously. Given the propensity of this issue, we have seen tremendous response to these campaigns, with high engagement around the campaign and increased enquiries for our policy with a mental health cover. It is a delight to see conversations around mental health become more mainstream as people open up to share their experiences and inspire others. There is definitely increased awareness and empathy towards this issue, and the taboos are now starting to soften. However, we have miles to go to create widespread acceptance around mental health issues and to educate people that there is help available, both medical and financial. Q) Going ahead, what will your broad marketing strategy be, to capture a bigger market share? At FGII, our vision is to be a preferred General Insurer in the eyes of our customer.
