The face-based version of Auto-Rotate to <keyword id="3702746" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="pixel-phones">Pixel phones</keyword> will use the front-facing camera to check if anyone is looking at the screen. If it detects that someone is indeed looking at the screen then it will try to determine in which way their head is turned, reports 9to5Google. It is possible that this face-based version of Auto-Rotate could launch as a broader Android 12 feature, but for now it will be exclusively for Pixel phones. Android 12's developer preview release is expected to be released on February 19, while its public release is expected in early September. As usual, <keyword id="3623609" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google-Pixel">Google Pixel</keyword> owners will likely be among the first to receive updates to Google's latest software. Google is also planning to add double-tap gesture support for Pixel phones with Android 12. Android 12 double-tap feature would include the ability to adjust the sensitivity to only recognise 'firm' taps. Here’s how it works On Android 12, Google is offering different facial gestures such as open mouth, smile, raise eyebrows, look left, look right and look up. You can set up these facial gestures and assign a task for each of them. There are also options to choose the size of the gesture. For example, how big you want your smile to be so that the gesture can be recognised. Once you set up the gesture you can set an assignment for it. There are different actions that you can perform through Camera Switches, and these include select, next, previous, touch and hold, scroll forward and backward, home, back, notifications and more. When the feature is enabled, your Android phone will detect when you look into the front camera and make these gestures. A persistent notification is also shown when the Camera Switches feature is active to indicate that the camera is in use. XDA Developers also found this feature working on Android 11 devices by sideloading its APK, which means Google could make it available for devices running Android 11 or below. Android 12 beta breaks records — Google’s most downloaded beta version ever

Packing every possible feature that a high-end smartphone is expected to have in 2022. With the brand covering solid ground in the mid-range category, GT2 Pro shows Realme’s ambition to get aggressive in the premium segment as well. Is the Realme GT2 Pro the right candidate for both the brand and the consumer to enter the flagship segment? I have spent 5 days with it, and here’s what I think about Realme’s budget flagship. Price &amp; Availability The Realme GT 2 Pro starts at a price of ₹49,999 for the 8GB RAM variant that packs in 128GB of storage. There is another variant offered at a price of ₹57,999 that packs in 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The phone is available on Flipkart and Realme India’s own official website. Realme GT 2 Pro Design: All elite <div type="image" title="Realme GT2 Pro features a polymer back" msid="90705838" hostid="261"></div> Realme has done a commendable job with the GT 2 Pro when it comes to the design. The phone feels premium from the moment you unbox it. It’s lightweight and ergonomically built which makes it a treat to hold and use. Unlike the industry trend of making a glass sandwich design, Realme GT 2 Pro combines a polymer back with a solid glass front put together in a stainless steel frame. The variant with me is in the paperwhite color with a textured back allowing a better grip on the phone. That being said, if your palms are dirty or sweaty they leave a smudge mark that can be cleaned only with a wet cloth, otherwise, the phone looks dirty. There is a major branding on the top right of the back which reads “Realme and designed by Naoto Fukasava’’, was it necessary to put such a bold branding there? No. I realized Realme is proud of this collaboration when I saw that even the bundled case reads the same branding. This to me was a bit much. There is also a fairly large triple camera set-up with an easily noticeable bump around it. <div type="image" title="Realme GT2 Pro features a big branding" msid="90705064" hostid="261"></div> On the right side, you will find the power lock and unlock button, volume rockers are on the left. All of these physical buttons are of good quality and give a tactile feel. On the bottom, you will find a USB Type-C port alongside a speaker grille and microphone. <div type="image" title="Realme GT2 Pro features a USB Type-C charging port" msid="90705187" hostid="261"></div> Surprisingly there is no official water resistance rating claimed by the company. However, after enquiring with the Realme team, I was told that the device is cascaded internally. Simply put it's well protected around the charging port, but it’s not completely water-resistant. Realme is proudly promoting this device as the world’s first bio-based smartphone design. What does that mean? Basically, the phone shell is made up of a bio-based polymer, which is said to reduce carbon emissions. Now, the irony is that the box comes in plastic wrapping, and so does the phone inside and its charger. These contradictions made me feel, that the above claims are more suited for a marketing pitch while there’s no way to quantify the impact. Realme has gone heavy with the branding, once again, and it spoils the perfectly good design for me. Some of you may not mind it, but I’m not a fan of this particular element. Realme GT 2 Pro Display: Best on any Realme smartphone The GT 2 Pro comes with a 6.7-inch 2K WQHD+ display, yes that’s a mouthful, but it does its job really well. One of the best display’s I have seen on a Realme device. It makes everything on the screen a visual treat, be it playing games or watching movies. <div type="image" title="GT2 Pro comes with a 6.7-inch 2K LTPO WQHD+ display" msid="90705229" hostid="261"></div> It also gets some presets like an image sharpener, video color enhancer, and video motion enhancement in case you want to tweak the display settings. All of these functions improve upon an individual characteristic of your content, but they also consume more battery. <div type="image" title="GT2 Pro has a punch-hole display" msid="90705305" hostid="261"></div> The phone also lets you choose the default screen resolution between FHD+ (2412 x 1080) or QHD+ (3216 X 1440) or Autoselect. During my testing, I kept the phone on the QHD+ setting for the maxed-out performance and I wasn’t disappointed. With accurate color reproduction and surreal detail retention, I thoroughly enjoyed watching my content. But it’s not limited just to watching movies, with an adaptive screen refresh rate the phone smoothly switches between 1Hz to 120Hz. So, casual reading on the internet, scrolling on social media, and of course, high-intensity gaming all are taken care of respectably. Realme GT 2 Pro comes with 1000Hz touch sampling which translates into visibly faster response time. The phone so far has not missed out on a tap, touch, or swipe. <div type="image" title="GT2 Pro features an always-on display" msid="90705315" hostid="261"></div> There is a Nature Tone display option on the phone that adjusts the color temperature as per the ambiance, however, I won’t suggest you keep it on since it spoils the experience. The company claims 1400 nits of max brightness on this one, while I didn’t test it with a luminance meter, I didn’t face any issues using it under direct sunlight generally. The always-on display option is also available that comes in handy. The screen also incorporates an in-display fingerprint sensor, which is snappy. Protected with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, you don’t have to worry about the display getting scratched easily. Complimenting the display is a stereo speaker set-up which is fairly loud and goes well with the caliber of the screen. Realme GT 2 Pro UI experience Up until now, I was convinced Realme has done it, they have outperformed themselves and have made an outright flagship. Until I realized the software woes. Mixed between an almost perfect amalgamation of Realme UI 3.0 and Android 12 was a package of applications. The usual suspects are all here - Josh, Moj, Mx Takatak, PhonePe, Sloop cut, and Bookings.com. Yes, all these can be uninstalled if you wish to, but I wished they were not there in the first place. <div type="image" title="GT2 Pro runs on Realme UI 3.0" msid="90705343" hostid="261"></div> Ignoring them, Realme UI works smoothly on the GT 2 Pro. With the fresh animation style for actions like uninstallation, or switching between tabs you enjoy using the smartphone. We do have to note here that this is a brand new unit, and the performance tends to go down with time. Before switching to the GT2 Pro, I was using the Realme 9 5G Speed Edition and even though the UI is similar on both devices, I found the execution on GT2 Pro leaps ahead. Realme also offers a ton of customization options utilizing the potential of Android 12 features and the brand's own custom skin. From generic options like selecting Dark mode, you can also go full custom. Choose a design of your liking and play around with the theme colors as you please. Realme GT 2 Pro Performance - Master of all The GT2 Pro is a device that not only looks solid on paper but also translates into real-life performance. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Processor which is top of the line and works in sync with the UI on board. The smartphone is blazing fast with non-existent boot-up times and a performance that does not lag behind in any sense. <div type="image" title="GT2 Pro is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Processor" msid="90705965" hostid="261"></div> The variant with me packs in 12GB of RAM which is more than capable of handling heavy tasks and retaining applications for upto 2 days. Yes, there have been instances where I didn’t close an app, opened it 2 days later and the phone took me to the exact same page where I had left it. This performance also shows up when you are gaming, after 2 hour long intense sessions of Genshin Impact and BGMI, I can say this is also a gaming device. With no lags or ugly frame drops the Realme GT 2 pro makes you enjoy your games. I played both the games on maxed-out settings, and I have no complaints so far. The phone did heat up, but not to the point where I couldn’t hold it. Realme’s stainless steel vapour cooling max system does work like advertised, so far. You can take the performance a notch higher with a dedicated GT Mode, which maxes out phone settings, I did my test with it turned on. The variant with me packs in 256GB of internal storage which is sufficient for high-performance users. The streak continues in battery performance as well, with the GT 2 Pro giving me a screen-on time of upto 5 hours. This includes watching content playing games and some social media scrolling. Do note, that the battery life also depends on your usage pattern. The Qualcomm chipset is working in sync with the battery and it's good news. However, I do wish that the charging speed was better. The 65W SuperDart charger takes about 1 hour to charge the 5000 mAh cell from 0 to 100%. Realme GT2 Pro Camera - There’s potential Realme GT2 Pro comes with a 50MP primary sensor which is a Sony IMX766 unit. This sensor is seen on high-end devices and performs really well in natural lighting conditions to deliver images that retain great details. The frames look beautiful and it manages to capture natural colors as well. <div type="image" title="Realme GT2 Pro 20X Zoom shot" msid="90705394" hostid="261"></div> With Optical image stabilization, the video performance is also satisfying and the outcome is generally favorable. You can also shoot 8K videos with a 60 fps setting with the GT 2 Pro, do you need this much firepower? Not really. But in case you ever want to use it, make sure the lighting conditions are favorable. <div type="image" title="GT2 Pro&amp;#39;s wide-angle shot" msid="90705553" hostid="261"></div> Then there is a 50MP ultra-wide lens which is as per Realme is the world’s first 150 Degree ultra-wide sensor. This also enables a fish-eye mode. Keeping that promotional lingo aside, it works really well and creates bigger frames. You will have a good time clicking pictures with it. <div type="image" title="GT2 Pro&amp;#39;s features 50MP primary sensor" msid="90705442" hostid="261"></div> <div type="image" title="GT2 Pro&amp;#39;s indoor photo sample" msid="90705455" hostid="261"></div> Then there is a 3MP microlens that comes with a 40x magnification feature, do you really need that? No. But does it work? Somewhat. Essentially a macro lens, it works wonders in certain situations mostly outdoor subjects. But if you try to click pictures indoors then the results are disappointing. <div type="image" title="Realme GT2 Pro&amp;#39;s micro-lens shot" msid="90705464" hostid="261"></div> The front camera is a 32 MP shooter and can click decent selfies, and comes with classic Realme AI features. I am still adjusting my head around them, but if you are a fan of changing everything about your selfies, from skin tone to Nose size, then you will have a ball. <div type="image" title="GT2 Pro&amp;#39;s 32MP selfie camera" msid="90705490" hostid="261"></div> There are other camera features on board as well, like the usual portrait mode which works well and edge detection is usually accurate. A feature that stood out for me was 3D pictures, which allow you to give different moments in a picture. Like Pan in or out, while the results do look good, there is room for improvement. You also get dual video mode on the phone. The dedicated street photography mode enables a 24mm resolution, and does add a bounce to the pictures. <div type="image" title="GT2 Pro features a street photography mode" msid="90705516" hostid="261"></div> As of now, I can say, There is the right set of hardware on the Realme GT 2 Pro, hopefully, with future software updates, we will be able to see the complete optical potential of this device. Realme GT 2 Pro - Verdict Realme has a winner in their hands with the GT2 Pro. Top-of-the-line specs, commendable camera hardware, and an intuitive UI are the hallmark of a good device, this device has it all. This smartphone is for performance-hungry users who might be bored off the obvious or want the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 experience under a budget. At a starting price of ₹47,999 this phone is a solid alternative to the likes of Samsung’s S21 FE and Oneplus 9RT.

The aluminum frame not only looks good but in my one week of heavy usage has managed to hold up well against scratches and smudges. It is also IP68 water and dust resistant, so rough terrains are not a problem, I had the phone in my pocket when I was crossing a pond and while my pants were soaking wet, the Galaxy S22 didn’t give me a heart attack. I usually don’t recommend not using a case, but here it’s worth it. While some might think of it as a ‘smaller’ smartphone by today’s standards, I tend to disagree. In a side-by-side comparison, it is visibly similar to my iPhone 12. The absence of a 3.5mm port doesn’t surprise me anymore. Just like the absence of a charger in the box. Samsung Galaxy S22 UI - Smooth but boring Samsung Galaxy S22 runs on Android 12 out of the box and has Samsung’s own One UI 4.1 skin on top. Samsung has mastered the amalgamation of One UI with android software by now and the result is a smooth user experience with virtually no lags, making you feel one with the device. <div type="image" title="Galaxy S22 &amp;amp; S22+ runs on Android 12" msid="90962437" hostid="261"></div> The UI is responsive and doesn’t miss out on a beat. The seamless integration between Android 12 features, and One UI shows up every now and then. Like the ‘material you’ design, which gives you unprecedented access to customize your smartphone. You can change the color palette of the skin, change themes and of course do some generic customization like putting the phone in dark mode. A change that I would personally like to recommend is switching the keyboard to the one from Google. Samsung’s default keyboard is fancy but with someone like me who has big thumbs typing on it is difficult. was not jamming well with my productivity. Coming back to the add-on they do get you excited for a while, but eventually, start to become boring. Samsung’s One UI is more or less similar across all its devices, and for a premium buyer, this can be a bit disheartening. I look forward to having a unique take on Samsung flagships in the future with respect to the UI. That being said, credit, where it’s due Samsung, has promised to provide 4 years' worth of updates for the Galaxy S22 line-up, so yes it can be deemed as a future-proof smartphone. My experience was similar on the bigger S22+ as well. Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ Display - Best in the business! Samsung displays are dominating the entire smartphone landscape so, to no surprise, the 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display is gorgeous. It’s well lit and with a peak brightness of 1300 nits using it under direct sunlight was no issue at all, and I am talking about peak afternoon sunlight on a farm. Watching anything on the panel is easy on the eyes, and you can make out each and every detail in a scene. Since, it does support HDR10+, which works efficiently with supported third-party OTT apps, you are in for a treat. <div type="image" title="Galaxy S22 &amp;amp; S22+ features Dynamic AMOLED 2X display" msid="90962609" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Galaxy S22 &amp;amp; S22+ feature Dynamic AMOLED 2X display&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> Simply put, the screen allows you to watch videos, play games, or even see photos as they are supposed to be. That’s not all, with an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 48Hz to 120Hz, the Galaxy S22 aids your visual adventures. From browsing the internet to playing fast-paced games, adaptive refresh rate makes everything slightly better. Initially, it did miss a beat or two while adapting to a new situation but after a recent update, it switches the refresh rates effortlessly. Complimenting the display is a stereo speaker set-up which is loud for the size on offer, however, I found the volume levels to be lower for my liking but audio is still very well defined. The screen also incorporates a super-sonic fingerprint sensor, which is hands down the fastest in-display fingerprint reader I have used in a long while. A light tap and the Galaxy S22 unlocks. Throughout my trip, I must have unlocked it countless times and it didn’t miss even once. It’s fast, responsive and quite accurate so far. You also have the classic, always-on display feature, which is as useful as it should be. Reading time to notifications, it comes in handy. It does cost you battery life, but nothing significant. Quickly touching upon the Galaxy S22+ here, with a bigger 6.6-inch display, and a peak brightness of 1750 nits, and the rest remains the same. That being said it is a better choice for a consumer who likes bigger panels. And honestly, watching content was more fun on it. Part of the reason is the fact that the stereo speakers on Galaxy S22+ are much louder than what we get on regular Galaxy S22. Samsung Galaxy S22 performance - There are some hiccups! The Galaxy S22 is perhaps the first of the ‘S’ series to be launched in India with a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. Is this great news? Somewhat, but not entirely. The Samsung Galaxy S22 runs on Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and the results are a bit confusing. In day to day usage, this is perhaps the best Android experience you can ask for. Everything feels smooth from something as simple as app response to boot-ups which are done in a flash. You don’t have to wait with the Galaxy S22, your commands are well received and reverted to in microseconds. The memory management is top-notch even after hours of non-usage you can jump to the exact frame in an app and carry on with your work. Now of course this is a brand new device, so the performance may vary down the line. The gaming performance was also incredible, my go-to game for testing a smartphone is BGMI, and the Galaxy S22 ran it smoothly. There were no frame drops and the game ran smoothly at maxed-out settings of extreme frame rates and Ultra HD graphic. While I was enjoying my experience, my hands were getting hot, and no it was not the adrenaline rush from the game. The Galaxy S22 does get very warm and the aluminum frame adds a more hurtful zing to it. But that’s a common trait we’ve experienced with other Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phones too. Any task that required major chipset contribution like gaming or shooting videos resulted in a burning hot Galaxy S22. The first 10 minutes are fine, but the 11-minute mark results in heavy heat and uncomfortable temperatures. While I write this article, Samsung has pushed a new update on the Galaxy S22 which has reduced the heating issue but not drastically. Maybe a future update will fix it completely, I can only hope. This experience is a tad bit better on the Galaxy S22+ mostly because the heat dissipation on the phone is better. Coming to the battery life, the Galaxy S22 features a 3700 mAh battery, which on paper is not a lot, especially since we find 5000mAh cells on the brand’s budget devices. But is it really not enough? I disagree. On my 3 day trip when I was mostly outside, I was plugging in the Galaxy S22 once in 2 days. Ever since coming back in my generic day of usage, I have to put it on charge every night which I find to be okay, given the performance and productivity. During the testing, I used a 61W USB PD to charge the Galaxy S22. The Galaxy S22 managed a full charge in 1 hour, 33 minutes. It is indeed quite slow compared to the competition, most of which come with their own fast-charging adapters. We do have to note that the Galaxy S22 supports 25W fast charging and the Galaxy S22+ supports 45W fast charging. The Galaxy S22+ with its bigger 5000mAh battery lasts well over a day and a half with moderate to heavy usage and took 1 hour 42 minutes to charge completely with the same adapter. The integration of the chipset is seemingly in sync with the battery on board and it boils down to you, choosing between the 2 smartphones. Do note that the battery life mostly depends on your usage pattern. Touching upon the network connectivity, now this is a 5G smartphone but there is a while before I can comment on that performance. However, the network connectivity was fairly impressive and I faced no call drops with my Vi sim. Yet again, it is worth noting that your mileage may vary based on network conditions in your area. Samsung Galaxy S22 Camera - Enough for everyone? Now a 3-day trip means volumes of photos and that’s what you can expect in this section. Both the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ feature the same triple rear camera set-up. There is a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 10MP telephoto sensor. Coming to the ultra-wide sensor on S22, it should suffice for most users. Yes, it’s living under the shadow of the mighty Galaxy S22 Ultra, but a variable zoom range of 0.6 to 30X is no joke by any means. You can go wide with your frames bringing in most of the subjects you want, max zoom intends to pixelate the image, but that’s natural. Still, you can flex on it. <div type="image" title="Galaxy S22&amp;#39;s camera retains vivid colors" msid="90962569" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Galaxy S22&amp;#39;s camera retains vivid colors&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The telephoto lens performs well, and the portraits on Galaxy S22 are gorgeous and worthy of your social media feed. The video performance of the camera set-up is stunning, with the phone able to capture 8k footage at 24fps. A generic user might never use it, but the potential in the camera setup is immense and so are the modes and filters to play with your photos. Video results are comparatively better in well-lit conditions than against what we see in darker set-ups. Can you make a film-grade clip from the camera? - No. but you can definitely count on it if you are an everyday content creator or even a vlogger. Coming to the selfie camera it is a 10MP sensor and performs decently. Verdict Ever since brands have started diversifying their flagships with words like Ultra or Pro, it is usually the second in command flagships that go unnoticed in all the noise. However, both the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ shine through for me and seem to be a better option than their elder brother Galaxy S22 Ultra because of their value and usability. They pack in all of the best features you expect in a flagship and deliver it to the users at a significantly lesser price. My verdict is simple, these smartphones are a winner amongst the Android options. The Galaxy S22 is best suited for those who want a compact device and if you watch videos, movies, or simply want a bigger display then the Galaxy S22+ is a better choice.
