<keyword id="6354427" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="apple" source="Orion">Apple</keyword> is working on the most advanced chips for its unannounced AR/VR headset and now a new report has claimed that the iPhone maker has hired <keyword id="12819620" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="andrea-schubert" source="Orion">Andrea Schubert</keyword>, <keyword id="399907" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="meta" source="Orion">Meta</keyword>'s communications lead for its Augmented Reality (AR) products.<br /><br />In the latest edition of 'Power On' newsletter Mark Gurman said Apple is building out parts of its team that will handle the launch and subsequent marketing efforts of the hardware. Part of this is the alleged hiring of Andrea Schubert, the communications and public relations head for AR at Meta, reports Apple Insider.<br /><br />The latest rumours suggest that the headset would come with multiple highly sensitive 3D sensing modules in order to offer innovative hand tracking.<br /><br />The structured light sensors can detect objects in the hands, comparable to how Face ID is able to figure out facial expressions to generate Animoji.<br /><br />The headset will focus on gaming, media consumption, and communication.<br /><br />It will have two processors, one with the same level of computing power as M1 along with a lower-end chip to handle input from different sensors.<br /><br />The headset may come with at least six-eight optical modules to simultaneously provide continuous video see-through AR services. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="http://pictures.reuters.com/C.aspx?VP3=SearchResult&amp;VBID=2C0BXZJT3JU1J&amp;SMLS=1&amp;RW=1440&amp;RH=843#/SearchResult&amp;VBID=2C0BXZJT3JU1J&amp;SMLS=1&amp;RW=1440&amp;RH=843&amp;POPUPPN=1&amp;POPUPIID=2C0408WSLWUSZ">REUTERS/Ralph Orlowski</a></span></p><p class="caption">European Central Bank (ECB) President Mario Draghi.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p><a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/european-central-banks-january-press-conference-2016-1">42 days ago, Draghi said there were "no limits"</a> to what the central bank will do reach its inflation target of 2% at the ECB's January press conference.</p><p>He hinted that the ECB had the "power, willingness and determination" to take action in March if needs be.</p><p>Well, March is here and inflation is still far below target - falling to minus 0.2% in February, dropping back into negative territory for the first time in five months.</p><p>And at 1:45 p.m. Frankfurt time (12:45 p.m. <keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword> time) we'll discover what Draghi has up his sleeve.</p><p>Most analysts think the stimulus Draghi suggested is a cut in the deposit rate, which is the rate the ECB pays banks to leave money with it overnight.</p><p>At the moment, the rate is minus 0.3%, meaning banks have to pay money to leave deposits with the ECB - something the central bank hopes will stir the big lenders to pump money into the economy, rather than keep it back and reduce their own deposit rates, forcing savers to go out and spend or invest their money.</p><p>The issue is the size of the cut - while most analysts think the ECB will go to minus 0.4%, Ben May of Oxford Economics told <a href="http://www.straitstimes.com/business/economy/ecb-set-to-loosen-policy-to-lift-sagging-economy-inflation">AFP it could go as low as minus 0.5%. </a></p><p>Top European bankers are worried the ECB would only make things worse with a deposit rate cut. CEO of Austrian bank Erste Bank, Andreas Treichl, <a href="https://next.ft.com/content/0f15cc6c-e5cb-11e5-a09b-1f8b0d268c39">told the FT </a>that "savers are risk adverse and capital markets are not very prominent" in his region, meaning "lowering interest rates is not very helpful in stimulating economic growth," he said.</p><p>The other option for the ECB is a so-called tiered negative rate, which would charge banks depending on how much they wanted to deposit with the central bank. An internal memo seen by BI and sent to affected employees said the closings were because of "store performance."</p><p>Oculus spokeswoman Andrea Schubert confirmed the closings and said they were due to "seasonal changes."</p><p>"We're making some seasonal changes and prioritizing demos at hundreds of Best Buy locations in larger markets," she said. "You can still request Rift demos at hundreds of Best Buy stores in the US and Canada."</p><p>"We still believe the best way to learn about VR is through a live demo," she continued. "We're going to find opportunities to do regular events and pop ups in retail locations and local communities throughout the year."</p><p>Best Buy spokeswoman Carly Charlson said stores that no longer offer demos will continue to sell the Oculus Rift headset and accompanying touch controllers, which cost $600 and $200 respectively.</p><p>Oculus first partnered with Best Buy to demo and sell its Rift headset in April 2016. Only 48 Best Buy stores carried the headset initially, but the retailer later expanded the demos to 500 stores in August.</p><p>"It's going to be really cool and fun for our customers," Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/oculus-playstation-vr-demos-best-buy-2016-8">said at the time</a>. "Virtual reality has the potential to contribute to our growth."</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Getty Images</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Multiple "Oculus Ambassador" workers BI spoke with said that, at most, they would sell a few Oculus headsets per week at most during the holiday season, and that foot traffic to their pop-ups decreased drastically after Christmas.</p><p>"There'd be some days where I wouldn't give a demo at all because people didn't want to," said one worker at a Best Buy in Texas who asked to remain anonymous. Another worker from California said that Oculus software bugs would often render his demo headsets unusable.</p><p>"They didn't press on selling," the worker from Texas said of Oculus. "Their main thing was to have us do demonstrations and get people talking about Oculus."</p><p>A person familiar with the matter said that Facebook has thought about creating its own permanent storefronts to sell and demo VR, although any discussions about such an initiative appear to be in the early stages. Oculus named Christa Wittenberg as its global head of retail in January, according to her LinkedIn profile. The company has multiple open job listings for retail leads in North America and Europe.</p><p>Facebook purchased Oculus in 2014 <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-actually-paid-3-billion-for-oculus-vr-2017-1">for $2 billion and an additional $1 billion in later payouts</a>.
