The projects — which have a development potential of 4.4 million square feet — would aid L&amp;T Realty’s geographical expansion in Mumbai. This is also a part of the company's larger plan to strengthen its footprint in major metros by adding around five million square feet per year over the next five years. “We are committed to expanding our reach and continue looking into new markets. With signature elements from L&amp;T Realty, these projects will have iconic features,” said Shrikant Joshi, MD and CEO of L&amp;T Realty. According to the company, the South Mumbai project would be developed over a land parcel of five acres that offers clear harbour views, along with good connectivity to all parts of Mumbai. This residential complex will have 50 storey twin towers with luxury amenities and retail. Meanwhile, the company would develop a 20 tower residential complex in Andheri that falls under western suburbs. This would be L&amp;T Realty’s first project in the region. The Thane project will be developed on a six-acre land parcel, surrounded by social infrastructure and “ample amenities in-house”. L&T Realty to develop residential projects worth ₹8,000 crore in South Mumbai, Andheri and Thane

Like in many parts of India, <keyword id="6361702" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="stray-dogs" source="Orion">stray dogs</keyword> seem to rule the roost in Mumbai and other major cities of Maharashtra with the resultant human-canine conflicts that lead to veritable dogfights between activists and the authorities. On the one hand, the activists comprising NGOs and the legion of individual dog lovers or feeders point fingers at the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (<keyword id="48434" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bmc" source="Orion">BMC</keyword>), while the civic body shrugs and declares that it is doing the best possible to control the stray dog population. BMC's Chief of Veterinary Health Dr Kalimpasha Pathan said that currently, the stray dog population in Mumbai is estimated at around 160,000, up from some 95,000 as per the last detailed survey done in 2014, with the maximum stray canines 'resident' in the eastern and western suburbs of the city. "Previously, the city used to report over 80,000 dog bites annually, which has now reduced to around 55,000 per annum, or averaging to around 150 cases daily, but none are fatal," Pathan told IANS. Simultaneously, the civic body is going in for a major anti-rabies vaccine campaign, and administered doses to over 15,000 strays in September 2023, and hopes to cover another 100,000 street dogs in the coming weeks, he added. Activists, dog lovers and stray-feeders are not convinced by the BMC's claims or efforts, and say much more needs to be done as per the laws to control the street dogs' population. A lawyer-activist from Andheri Gurumurthy V. Iyer said that in 1998, the Bombay High Court had given a five year ultimatum to the BMC to control the stray dogs' numbers and framed guidelines as per the World Society for Protection of Animals. Later, in 2001 came the Centre' rules on animal birth control. To achieve this, the BMC roped in several NGOs and started a campaign to sterilize stray dogs, but it floundered for various reasons, even as the Supreme Court in 2015 said that rules must be strictly followed on this count. "Unfortunately, till today, the rules are not being adhered to fully, there are no sterilization centres in many cities, towns or villages, sanctioned budgets are not utilized and often they lapse or are returned unused, and hence the stray dog population remains uncontrolled," rued Iyer. A passionate dog lover and feeder from Versova, Zahra Ruhani said that in the past 15 years she volunteered with a Bandra-based NGO Save Our Strays run by Shirley Menon and others like Rinky Karmarkar, which is active in the western suburbs. "We get no help from the BMC, we have independently sterilized thousands of strays in just one locality. We needed space to start a sterilization centre, but the BMC didn't cooperate and we encountered all kinds of hurdles... This is the same story for many NGOs in Mumbai and other parts of the country," lamented Ruhani. Another canine lover Ramya Krishnamurthi-Iyer from Khar said people face huge resentment from the housing complexes, the neighbourhood residents and even pedestrwhen they feed the strays daily. "Luckily, I have not encountered all this, but many people torture the stray dogs, pull their tails, kick them and provoke them, leading to dog bites, especially youngsters... and then the poor dogs are hounded for no fault of theirs," said Krishnamurthi-Iyer. Advocate Iyer said that when the BMC sought culling options the courts refused it and had emphasized on the globally recognized 'five fundamental principles for animal welfare', including dogs. They are: "Freedom" from hunger, thirst, malnutrition; fear and distress; physical and thermal discomfort; pain, injury and disease; and finally, to express normal patterns of behaviour. "We must all work unitedly, including the authorities, to ensure that these mute animals also feel cared for, safe, healthy and can lead a normal life just like the humans..." urged Iyer. The BMC said it has sterilized over 350,000 dogs in the past over two decades, and presently an average of one out of every three stray dogs is sterilized in the city, though questions are raised on the lack of adequate dog vans, trained staff and commitment to their task. However, activists like Ruhani feel "this is grossly inadequate" and the civic bodies in all cities including Mumbai, must start more sterilization centres to ensure that nobody is at risk from the stray dogs who also have a right to life - "just like you &amp; me".

Amazon will now deliver to containment zones in Mumbai ⁠— these are the eligible areas

Mumbai, Feb 23 () The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Tuesday approved its Rs 12,969.35 crore budget for 2021-22. The budget, presented in the 150th meeting of the planning and executing authority for Mumbai Metropolitan Region, has made sizable provisions for metro projects, flyovers, Mumbai Tran-Harbour Link Project (MTHL), MUTP and MUIP, as well as metro staff housing. The budget has provided an amount of Rs 4,571.25 crore for Metro railway projects, including Rs 250 crore for Colaba- Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-3 corridor, Rs 700.65 crore for Dahisar to DN Nagar Metro-2A corridor and Rs 999.45 crore for Dahisar (East) to Andheri (East) Metro-7 corridor, the release said. It said commercial operations of Metro-2A and Metro-7 are likely to begin this year and, hence, the two lines have been provided an outlay of Rs 700.65 crore and Rs 999.45 crore respectively. The MMRDA release said Rs 329.30 crore has been earmarked for Metro Bhawan and Metro employees' housing, Rs 120.20 crore for the Mono railway project, Rs 2900.35 crore for Mumbai Trans Harbour Link project, Rs 60 crore for Bandra Kurla Complex, Rs 405 crore for Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) and Rs 776.85 crore for the extended Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project (MUIP). "The authority also allocated Rs 100 crore for late Balasaheb Thackeray's memorial and Rs 260 crore for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's memorial," the MMRDA release said. In the meeting, the authority also approved extension of DN Nagar to Mankhurd 2-B metro corridor till Mandala, as well as an interchange for line 2B and Metro-7 corridor. In the budget for 2021-22, expenditure of Rs 12,969.35 crore is expected and an amount of Rs 9,833.75 crore is expected to be received, according to the release. Mumbai, Jun 22 () The city civic body will operate 50 mobile dispensaries in northern suburbs of Mumbai, which have emerged as the new COVID-19 hotspots, under an initiative launched on Monday that is aimed at curbing the spread of the infection in the metropolis and bring cases to zero. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) launched Mission Zero rapid action plan under its "Chase the Virus' drive. Under the programme, that covers Borivali, Dahisar, Malad, Kandivali, Bhandup and Mulund suburbs of North Mumbai, the BMC will run 50 mobile dispensary vans which will go to different localities to conduct preliminary check-ups for 2 to 3 weeks to identify and treat COVID-19 patients. At a function organised at the Shahaji Raje Bhosale Sports Complex in suburban Andheri, BMC commissioner I S Chahal along with other dignitaries launched the "Mission Zero" rapid action plan that will be implemented under public- private partnership with the Bharatiya Jain Sanghatana, Desh Apnayen, CREDAI-MCHI and Bill Gates Foundation. "Under the 'Mission Zero' rapid action plan, 50 mobile dispensary vans with doctors and medicines will visit Mulund, Bhandup, Andheri, Malad, Borivali, Dahisar and Kandivali to conduct preliminary examination of patients," the BMC said in a release. The private organisations associated with the plan are going to provide vans, doctors and medicines, while the civic body will take care of swab testing and quarantine facilities, among other things, it said. The BMC said it aims to increase the current average case doubling rate of 36 days to 50 days. However, in certain parts of the city like Malad (P/North Ward), Borivali (R/Central Ward), Dahisar (R/North Ward), Kandivali (R/South Ward), Bhandup (S Ward) and Mulund (T Ward), the duration of doubling rate was between 19 to 24 days as on June 21. Hence, it has been decided to implement a rapid action plan to bring down the number of positive cases in the city to zero, said the civic body which is spearheading Mumbai's response to the coronavirus pandemic. "The rapid action plan will boost the efforts already in place. With the onset of monsoon, the plan is particularly critical for timely detection and treatment of patients with coronavirus and other ailments," the release stated. The civic body said after checking by mobile dispensaries, all COVID-19 suspects will be immediately isolated and swab tests conducted in the area they reside in. "This will lead to early detection and timely treatment of those infected, and at the same time, public awareness will also be created to empower citizens with correct information regarding the virus," the BMC said. The difference between a hotspot and a containment zone is that the former are not seized but largely monitored for suspected cases. However, when a place is declared as containment zones, the areas are completely sealed, and no outdoor or indoor movements are allowed until permitted by the authorities. (Eds: Adds details) Mumbai, Jul 6 () The number of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai spiked by 1,201 to 85,326 on Monday while the death toll rose by 39 to 4,935, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. A total of 1,269 patients were discharged from various hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the number of the recovered cases to 57,152, the BMC said in a release. Mumbai now has 23,249 active cases. A total of 762 new suspected cases have been admitted in hospitals, the BMC said. Mumbai's recovery rate now stands at 67 per cent while the doubling rate of cases stands at 44 days, the BMC said, adding that the overall growth rate of cases is 1.60 per cent. As per the BMC data, K-East, G-north and P-north wards have over 5000 cases each. The K-East (Andheri East) ward has 5,715 cases, G-north (Dadar, Mahim and Dharavi) has 5,217 cases while the number of cases under P-north (Malad) ward is 5,129, it said. The B ward (Dongari) has the lowest 799 cases. The number of active cases in E ward (Byculla), which had recorded 3,336 cases, is just nine, followed B and C wards with 229 and 267 active cases, respectively. The highest number of 382 deaths had been recorded in G-north ward and the lowest 48 in A ward, the civic body said. On Tuesday, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will inaugurate four new temporary COVID-19 treatment facilities situated at Mahalaxmi Racecourse, Dahisar, Mulund and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). Mumbai, Apr 28 () With the number of COVID-19 positive cases increasing rapidly in the megapolis, town planning authority MMRDA has also decided to transform the exhibition ground at BKC into a quarantine centre. The move comes in the wake of Mumbai recording more than 5,500 COVID-19 cases and the death toll crossing the 200 mark. Civic body BMC anticipates that in a worst-case scenario, Mumbai will have around 70,000 positive cases by the end of this May. "As per the instructions of the state government, MMRDA has started construction of 1,000 beds quarantine and isolation facility for non-critical COVID19 patients at BKC exhibition ground," Metropolitan Commissioner R A Rajeev said in a statement. "The hospital will be fully equipped with the resources &amp; staff necessary for the treatment of non-critical COVID-19 patients. MMRDA stands firm with the state in this crucial fight against COVID-19," Rajeev said. He further said the make-shift construction is expected to be completed in 15 to 20 days. "Once fully functional it will be handed over to BMC for further operations," Rajeev added. "Initially, out of the 1,000 beds, 500 will have an additional oxygen facility. The centre will also house a pathology lab for basic blood tests. The entire expense of setting up of the facility will be borne by the authority," the authority said. Rajeev said that an additional facility up to 5,000 beds can be prepared if there is a requirement in future. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has joined hands with city-based Jupitar Hospital for setting up the facility. BKC, touted as the financial district of the megapolis, houses headquarters of major institutions like SEBI, NSE, Nabard, Bharat Diamond Bourse, as also of financial institutions like ICICI Bank, IL&amp;FS as well as Reliance Industries' Jio Garden. Meanwhile, the BMC has also taken steps to create quarantine facilities in the city and has transformed the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) in Worli, Andheri Sports Complex, and NESCO exhibition centre in Goregaon into quarantine centres for persons who have come in contact with coronavirus positive cases. NSCI already has readied a capacity of 500 quarantine beds, while NESCO has prepared 300 beds and can accommodate a total of 1240 beds.  Even in <keyword id="3506414" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="co-working-cafes">co-working cafes</keyword> like MTV Flyp, you can walk in and pay Rs. 450 for a day. Have anything from the menu and you can redeem that amount as well. 
 
Next up, a three member team peering at their Macbook screens. They’re part of the India edition of Singapore-based Techseen. “We are the first team to work out of here. It’s been about 3 months now. Most offices today are shifting out of Delhi into Gurgaon and Noida. Being in a central location, the only downside is high real-estate costs. After all, it's the rentals that decide the economics. Bindal says he’s making good money. This is after paying Rs. 6 lacs as rent. “We broke even in the first 3 months. We’re investing heavily on resources now. In this business, profitability depends on how many centres you have. We’re planning to launches centres in Gurgaon and Noida soon”, he says. 
 
His company is also planning to have co-working centres in Bengaluru (Koramangala/LSR Layout/Indiranagar) and Mumbai (Andheri/Juhu) in the next two months.

As evening fell, the live band started jamming. Bass shook the floor. I knew it was time to get out. The bustling co-working crowd seemed at ease though, puffing their hookahs and gorging spicy kebabs.
