New Delhi, India's top billionaires, including Gautam Adani and Sunil Bharti Mittal, mega stars from film industry such as Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan and cricketing icons from Sachin Tendulkar to M S Dhoni are among those invited for pre-wedding celebrations of Mukesh Ambani's youngest son, Anant early next month. The India Chapter of the International Advertising Association elects Megha Tata as its President for a second term

New Delhi, Jan 22 () Tyre maker Ceat on Wednesday reported a marginal increase in consolidated net profit at Rs 52.5 crore for December quarter 2019-20.
The company had posted a profit of Rs 52.25 crore in the same period a year ago, Ceat said in a regulatory filing.
 Revenue from operations during the quarter under review stood at Rs 1,761.77 crore as against Rs 1,729.75 crore in the year-ago period, it added.
 "The company has performed well despite challenging business environment," Ceat Managing Director Anant Goenka said.
Ceat CFO Kumar Subbiah said the company's revenue growth and cost controls helped it deliver improved margins during the quarter. 
 "We continue to exercise dexterity in controlling our ongoing capex which has helped us to control our debt levels," he added. 
 The company said its board considered issuance of securities, including non-convertible debentures in one or more series/tranches, up to an amount of Rs 500 crore which has already been approved by shareholders in its last AGM in August 2019.
The board has authorised its Finance and Banking Committee to take such necessary steps in this regard, including finalisation of the terms of issuance of NCD or such other debt securities, it added.
 On the outlook, Goenka said, "We will be commissioning our Chennai and Nagpur plants in the fourth quarter and with the new capacities coming in, we are looking forward to growing the passenger segments." RKL

Ceat Q3 profit up marginally at Rs 52.5 cr

New Delhi, June 20 (IANS) Microsoft on Saturday revealed that people in India are using video in 22 per cent of meetings and there has been a considerable increase in Microsoft Teams usage on mobile devices in the country as organisations redefine productivity in the pandemic times. The video meet usages can grow even further in India as there is still less access to devices and stable internet in parts of the country, said Samik Roy, Country Head, Modern Workplace, Microsoft India. "The number of people turning on video in Microsoft Teams meetings had doubled from before working from home became mainstream. In fact, total video calls in Teams grew by over 1,000 percent in March 2020," Roy said in a statement on the occasion of World Productivity Day. In India, productivity at work has often been equated to one element  time and many organisations across the country are seeing the benefits of adopting Microsoft Teams. Dr Ashutosh Raghuvanshi, MD and CEO, Fortis Healthcare said that they had this tool even before the current situation, but the usage was very low. "What we are realizing is that we're able to function more than the normal level because none of us are spending time in commuting or waiting for people to join meetings physically. We are also using Teams for our internal meetings, for teleconsultations with the patients, and for our learning and development needs," informed Raghuvanshi. In sectors like manufacturing, there was initial apprehension around remote work. "Work from home will not be a taboo anymore, even for manufacturing companies like Mahindra and Mahindra. Having more digital connect, virtual meetings, people not travelling will become a very comfortable thing," said Dr Pawan Kumar Goenka, CEO and Managing Director, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. Anant Maheshwari, President, Microsoft India, said last mont that this one solution has taught people to actually work together and create together. The nationwide lockdown has made CEOs and CXOs, who were earlier against video calling, comfortable with Microsoft Teams in not just conferencing with customers but also doing actual collaborations and integrating business processes within the solution, Maheshwari stressed. In the month of March, the average time between a person's first and last use of Microsoft Teams each day increased by over one hour. "This data does not necessarily mean people were working more hours per day, rather that they are breaking up the day in a way that works for their personal productivity or makes space for obligations outside of work," said Roy. "Employees need to be empowered by technology  from cloud-enabled solutions and mobile apps to integrative collaboration hubs such as Microsoft Teams  allowing them to communicate and collaborate in a secured environment and in the way that works best for them," he emphasized. --IANS na/

The human resource development (HRD) ministry will now focus not on the quantity but on the quality of the students hired in the country’s top engineering schools.
 

	The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and the companies that hire their graduates have long been complaining that the current system is selecting many who're being heavily tutored in cram schools and not necessarily the most talented.
 To take the ministry's strategy forward, a committee has been constituted following several rounds of deliberations earlier this month by the <keyword id="6354859" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIT">IIT</keyword> Council and the <keyword id="67810" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="NIT">NIT</keyword> Council. The committee's terms of reference, which have been reviewed by ET, propose a single admission test and call for a reduction in exam stress levels and the dependence on coaching classes. 

	The aim is to "reduce exam pressure" and check "coaching dependence... without diluting testing quality", according to the terms of reference.
 

	In line with this, the committee has been tasked with shortening the time the process takes from the current three months between the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and the declaration of results. It has also been asked to "reform counselling for IITs, NITs, IISERs (Indian Institutes of Science Education &amp; Research)" with a single web site to ensure "least difficulty" for students.
 

	At a recent meeting of the IIT and NIT councils, the HRD ministry sought to put the focus on students' interests. It also called for handholding of academically weaker students by mentors among seniors and a grievance redressal cell for students at the NIT Council level. The IITs, NITs and IISERs are all centrally funded. The JEE currently consists of two parts for most aspirants — the Main and the Advanced.
 Former HRD minister <keyword id="30182" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kapil-Sibal">Kapil Sibal</keyword> had persuaded the country's premier engineering schools to accord a 40% weight to Class 12 exams to try and relax the stranglehold of coaching centres and ensure that students pay attention to the school curriculum. 

	The committee, which is supposed to submit its report by November 1, will be headed by Ashok Mishra, chairperson of IIT-Roorkee. Other members are former IIT-Madras Director Prof Anant, Defence Research and Development Organisation scientist Tessy Thomas, IIT-Kharagpur Chairperson Pavan Goenka and Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati Mentor Director Gautam Barua.
 

	The JEE is considered one of the toughest admission tests with a high level of difficulty, forcing students to resort to intensive coaching modules.
 

	"The problems of exam pressure and coaching influence on IIT admissions have been there for years now and there are no easy answers even when we know these have to be addressed," the person said on condition of anonymity.
