A Mother Dairy spokesperson said that the dairy industry has been experiencing a consistent surge in raw milk prices, which has increased by about ₹ 3/kg in the last two months alone, owing to multifold increase in varied input costs. "Increased fodder prices and low rainfall in some northern states have aggravated the situation. We are therefore compelled to revise prices to support farmers and ensure availability of quality milk for consumers," he said. Earlier, during the day, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (<keyword id="134812" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="GCMMF" source="Orion">GCMMF</keyword>), which sells milk and milk products under the brand name 'Amul' had announced raising the rates of full cream milk and buffalo milk by ₹ 2 per litre amid the festive season. The price of full cream milk has increased from ₹ 61 per litre to ₹ 63 per litre. Both the major dairy brands, Amul and Mother Dairy had in August hiked milk prices by ₹ 2 per litre to compensate the increase in procurement costs. Mother Dairy raises milk prices by ₹ 2 per litre on select variants

Benefits under Central government's merchandise exports scheme was raised to 10% from 7% earlier. These subsidies allowed dairy companies to reduce the excess inventory. Indian government wants to stop milk prices from boiling over — investors in Heritage Foods, Parag Milk, and Hatsun Agro are watching closely

New Delhi, Dec 14 () India's leading dairy firm Amul on Saturday announced hiking milk prices by Rs 2 per litre across various states, while Mother Dairy increased rates by up to Rs 3 per litre in Delhi-NCR due to rise in procurement cost.
 The new prices will be effective from Sunday (December 15), Mother Dairy and Amul said in separate statements.
 Prices of raw milk are generally lower in the winter season, but this year they have risen due to late monsoon followed by excess rains.
 Increase in milk prices by the two major dairy firms could impact retail inflation, which spiked to a more than three-year high of 5.54 per cent in November due to costlier food products.
 Mother Dairy has increased prices of token and poly pack or pouched milk by Rs 2-3 per litre.
 Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets dairy products under the Amul brand, said it has decided to revise milk prices by Rs 2 per litre in Ahmedabad and Saurashtra markets of Gujarat, Delhi NCR, West Bengal, Mumbai and Maharashtra.
 GCMMF supplies 1.4 crore litres of milk per day across the country, of which 33 lakh litres is in Delhi-NCR.
 Mother Dairy too sells over 30 lakh litres per day of milk in the national capital region.
 Both the dairy majors attributed the price increase to higher procurement cost and said they pass on 80 per cent of the sales realisation from milk towards its procurement from dairy farmers.
 As per its rate chart, Mother Dairy has hiked the price of bulk vended milk (token milk) by Rs 2 to Rs 42 per litre.
 In poly packs, Mother Dairy's full cream milk has become costlier by Rs 2 to Rs 55 per litre. Price of half litre full cream milk has been hiked to Rs 28 from Rs 27.
 Mother Dairy's toned milk price has been hiked by Rs 3 per litre to Rs 45, while double-toned milk will now be sold at Rs 39 per litre compared to Rs 36.
 Price of Mother Dairy cow milk too has been raised by Rs 3 per litre to Rs 47 per litre.
 In NCR, Amul Gold and Amul Taaza will be costlier Rs 2 each to Rs 55 per litre and Rs 44 per litre respectively. Cow milk will now be sold at Rs 44 against Rs 42 per litre earlier.
 Amul said that in the last three years, it has made only two price revisions for pouch milk which is only Rs 4 per litre and less than 3 per cent per annum increase in MRP.
 "This year the price of cattle feed has increased by more than 35 per cent. Considering increase in cattle feed and other input costs, our member unions have increased milk procurement price in the range of Rs 100 to Rs 110 per Kg fat which is more than 15 per cent increase than the last year for the 36 lakh milk producers of Gujarat," Amul said.
 Mother Dairy said that milk availability across various states is under severe stress due to adverse climatic conditions including extended monsoon and delayed start of the flush season.
 Stating that adverse climatic conditions have resulted in a significant increase in feed and fodder prices, Mother Dairy said: "This has impacted the prices paid to milk producers. The raw milk prices, which in a normal year come down during the winter months, have firmed up substantially."
 The prices paid to milk producers have increased by about Rs 6 per litre, up by almost 20 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year, the company said, adding that it was compelled to raise milk rates. MJH ABM

As per Euromonitor, a market researcher, home-grown firms lead India’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=packaged+food+industry&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">packaged foods sector</a> in 2015. 
 
According to the data, Mondelez, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=nestle+india&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Nestle</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=pepsi&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">PepsiCo</a> were the only three companies to figure in the top 10 players by market share across packaged foods. 
 
The market researcher stated that the Indian packaged foods market stood at Rs 2,572 billion last calendar, 15% up from Rs 2,232 billion in 2014. 
 
"Domestic manufacturers dominated packaged food in 2015, whereas international players still have to understand the dynamics of the Indian consumer mindset. Domestic manufacturers are also increasing their product portfolios," Euromonitor International research analyst Manjunath Reddy told ET.

Even Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) registered a turnover of Rs 23,000 crore for 2015-16, an increase of 11% over the previous year, due to better prices and natural ingredients. 
 
"Responsiveness to changing consumer mindsets and focus on local tastes and flavours is what is helping us drive top lines," Mother Dairy Fruit &amp; Vegetable managing director S Nagarajan told ET.

 Similarly, <keyword id="3026737" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Gujarat-Cooperative-Milk-Marketing-Foundation">Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Foundation</keyword> (GCMMF), the maker behind the Amul brand of dairy products has been running ads emphasizing on the fact that their products are undergoing regular quality checks. Its rival, Mother Dairy is also not behind. Its ad campaign doing the rounds on social media shows its consumer on a plant visit. 
 
Meanwhile Nestle, the brand which was worst hit by regulators is already plotting the comeback of Maggi, piggybacking on its recent Maggi videos attracting around nine lakhs views in three days. 
 
"These short films reflect the spontaneity and affection between consumers and Maggi. We are making efforts to get Maggi Noodles back on the shelves and have been overwhelmed by the messages of love and support that we receive each day. Such messages strengthen our resolve to be back with our beloved consumers. We want to share the warmth of our relationship through these films," told a Nestle Indian spokesperson to Economic Times.

Nestle, ITC, Amul among companies to start consumer engagement exercises

Mumbai, Feb 13 () <keyword id="108820" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="milk-prices">Milk prices</keyword>, which have risen by Rs 4-5 per litre over the past nine months, are likely to stabilise in 2020-21 as production is expected to pick up due to abundant water availability and anticipated normal monsoon, according to a report. Production of <keyword id="6362951" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="milk">milk</keyword> has been shrinking since April last year due to high summer temperatures and lower availability of water, made worse by delay in rainfall, ratings agency <keyword id="6359483" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Crisil">Crisil</keyword> said in the report. This was followed by floods in various parts of the country, leading to poor animal health. Also, water logging in green pastures kept animals from grazing and damage to crops such as maize and sugarcane, which are used for fodder, crimped fodder availability, leading to lower milk production in the country, it added. This fiscal, milk production is expected to be lower by 5-6 per cent year-on-year at 176 million tonnes. The flush season that usually begins in November-December is estimated to have shifted by 1-2 months because of the delayed monsoon.

 Crisil said milk prices began moving up in May 2019, with Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF, better known as Amul) and Mother Dairy hiking the maximum retail price of their full-cream milk pouches by Rs 2 per litre. The two giants followed this up with a further hike of Rs 2 and Rs 3 per litre, respectively, in December, taking it to Rs 55 per litre. Other large dairy processors have started following suit, spurred by the shortfall in milk production around the country, and thereby supply. However, Crisil said milk production is expected to pick up in 2020-21, given abundant water in reservoirs and expectations of a normal monsoon. That should arrest any further rise in milk procurement and retail prices. Further, rabi sowing area had increased 10 per cent as on January 31, 2020. This is expected to lead to a 12 per cent increase in crop production for the season and higher arrivals of key crops such as wheat, bajra, jowar and maize from March would mean copious fodder availability, which should raise milk production next fiscal, the report said. This is expected to stabilise milk procurement costs, bolstering the operating margins of dairy processors. So, milk prices are not expected to rise any further in the coming few quarters, unless monsoons spoil the game for processors, it added. India will have to live with high milk prices for at least a few more months

New Delhi, Mar 31 () GCMMF, which sells dairy products under the Amul brand, expects demand for its milk to decline by 10-12 per cent as hotels and restaurants have closed after the nationwide lockdown, while procurement of milk from farmers has increased by 15 per cent. Mother Dairy and Parag Milk have also witnessed fall in demand in absence of institutional sales, but they hope that some of it could be compensated by rise in household consumption.India is the leading milk producer in the world with an annual output of around 190 million tonne.When contacted, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) MD R S Sodhi said the demand for milk had gone up to 155 lakh litre per day due to panic buying from an average 140 lakh litre of sales per day. "Last week, our sales fell by 30 cent from the average 140 lakh litre per day. But again it has risen. Now the gap is 18 per cent and demand will further improve," he told .Sodhi said the cooperative expects demand to fall by 10-12 per cent due to closure of hotels, restaurants and cafeterias.On the other hand, he said the procurement of milk from dairy farmers has increased 15 per cent with tea shops and sweet makers not buying milk from them and the surplus going to GCMMF.''We have hired 2-3 plants to process these surplus milk and convert it into skimmed milk powder," Sodhi said.Asked about other dairy products, he said the demand for some items like butter milk, paneer and ghee has gone up while sales of ice cream, cream and cheese have fallen. Sodhi said the demand will increase once the lockdown is lifted. He said sales improve in summers. When contacted, Mother Dairy spokesperson said it is maintaining the average milk sales volume of 30 lakh litres/day in Delhi-NCR for last few days. "There has been some reduction in volumes of institutional sales due to the lockdown."Devendra Shah, Chairman, Parag Milk Foods, said, "Milk consumption has declined over the past month because of the closure of hotels, restaurants, and catering business".However, he hoped that sales would improve through online delivery platforms. "Over the past month,domestic consumption of ghee, butter, paneer and cheese has increased as entire family is at home. Currently, Natural sells a total of 1.4 lakh scoops daily in half a dozen states. 
 
Experts believe Natural will need to ensure the taste does not change as it expands, since the dessert now needs to be shipped to stores far away from the factory at Charkop, a northern suburb of Mumbai. 
 Also, Natural will face a tough competition from other known ice-cream makers. While dairy giant <keyword id="26280" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="amul">Amul</keyword> is by far the leader in the Rs 3,000 crore ice-cream market, others such as Baskin-Robbins and Gelato are expanding aggressively. These two companies now have more than 600 stores together. <keyword id="6365619" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Hindustan-UniLever">Hindustan Unilever</keyword> which runs Kwality Wall's kiosks, brought its largest ice-cream brand Magnum into the country last year. Also, Mother Diary and Vadilal have a strong presence in the country. 
 
Kamath junior is confident that no one can defeat Natural when it comes to quality. 
 
"Replicating our taste is nearly impossible, especially for fruits like tender coconut and sitaphal, which is made manually and takes hours to do," said Kamath junior.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, airlines are making an inflight announcement with an appeal message to participate in the ensuing elections. Voter guides are being kept in aircraft seat pockets. Apart from this, many airports are providing space for the display of voter awareness messages. Selfie points have been installed at airports in 10 major cities viz. Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Patna, Chandigarh, and Pune. Music App Spotify is running a campaign called 'Play Your Part', and they have issued print advertisements, and curated the playlists for the elections, on their app. Payments app PhonePe has integrated voter awareness message into their app and is actively encouraging voters. BookMyShow has launched an integrated campaign, titled "Aaj Picture Nahi, Bigger Picture Dekho," to raise awareness among voters. MakeMyTrip is running a campaign titled 'MyVoteWalaTrip', whereby discounts are offered to citizens going to vote. Food delivery platforms such as Zomato and Swiggy are disseminating voter awareness messages through their platforms and social media activities. Grocery App Blinkit changed its logo to "Inkit" for the elections, incorporating a message encouraging people to "Go out and Vote" as a tagline. Uber India is reaching out to voters through multi-channel messaging (in-app, emails, push notifications), offering discounts for rides to polling stations, and amplifying voter awareness messages on social media platforms. Bike app Rapido has been encouraging voters with a free ride to vote. Urban Company has launched 'I Have Voted Campaign' to encourage voters. Tata Neu app, serving as the Tata Group's group-wide consumer-facing mobile app, prominently features the "Cast Your Vote" animated banner on its homepage, with additional initiatives currently underway. Truecaller is enhancing its layout by displaying voter awareness message during outbound calls Some other independent initiatives are Mankind Pharma #VotingVirgin campaign, clothing brand Neeru's "Vote ki Taiyaari" TVC, Tinder's "Every Single Vote Counts" campaign, creatively curated social media post by Matrimonial sites like Jeevansathi.com, etc and discounts for voting by popular brands such as Shoppers' Stop, MakeMyTrip, Chroma and many more. Four phases of Lok Sabha polls have been held and the voting will conclude on June 1 with results on June 4. The remaining phases will be held on May 20, May 25, and June 1.

New Delhi, Feb 27 () FMCG majors HUL and Nestle have been jointly ranked first in the industry for their approach to nutrition in the 'India Access to Nutrition Spotlight Index'. They were followed by food and beverages major PepsiCo India, Britannia Industries and Coca-Cola India. The index is published by Access to Nutrition Index (ATNI) and hosted by Access to Nutrition Foundation, an international not-for-profit organisation. ATNI report is published once in every three years and this is the second edition of India Spotlight Index. India was selected as a spotlight country as it has a rapidly developing food and beverages sector, a statement said. The initiative is supported by the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation and the governments of the UK and the Netherlands. This season, 16 largest companies in India's food and beverage sector were assessed with the aim to encourage these companies to improve their nutrition practices, it added. The other companies were Amul, Mondelez India, Mother Dairy, Parle Products, AAVIN, Adani Wilmar, Emami Agrotech, Hatsun Agro Product, ITC, Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (Nandini) and Marico Limited. "ATNI sees food and beverage companies in India showing their commitment to provide healthy food and engaging in a dialogue on how to support India's Eat Right Movement," ATNI Executive Director Inge Kauer said. Lifestyle changes in India have caused a shift in consumer habits -- from the consumption of traditional food, to more urban food habits consisting of packaged and processed foods, high in sugar, fat and salt. "In fact, India is among the top 10 consumers of fast food in the world. This, coupled with the fact that India is set to become the third largest consumer economy, presents an enormous opportunity for food and beverage companies to make nutrition a core part of their business plans, and to adopt comprehensive, public and commercial strategies to address issues related to the double burden of malnutrition in India," she said. <ul><li>A new study shows that <keyword id="1013934" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="meat-consumption">meat consumption</keyword> habits are increasing, which could lead to an overall increase in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.</li><li><keyword id="6407539" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Livestock">Livestock</keyword> is responsible for the same amount of carbon emissions as transport. </li><li>Scientists in India are exploring how to tailor the diet of cattle so that they produce 12-15% less methane.</li></ul>Vehicles and carbon emissions is a story as old as the industrial revolution, but nobody’s thinking of greenhouse gases when they see a cow cross the road. Talking of the growing concerns on <keyword id="6361617" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="climate-change">climate change</keyword>, Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, in his <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/bill-gates-warns-of-the-dangers-of-cow-farts-and-the-world-should-take-his-words-seriously/articleshow/67962704.cms">annual letter</a>, expressed concern over the dangers of cow farts. "I wish more people fully understood what it will take to stop climate change," the letter said. A 2018 study, titled <a href="http://science.sciencemag.org/content/361/6399/eaam5324.full">‘The Future of Meat</a>’ published in Science Mag explores the correlation between human meat consumption and population growth. Conclusions drawn show how these consumption habits are increasing and because of which, not only is it a health hazard for humans but there are negative consequences for the <keyword id="6356826" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ENVIRONMENT">environment</keyword> as well. However, there are two key areas other than the growing population and their intake of meat -- manufacturing of building materials and agriculture -- which may have a dangerous consequence, according to him. While the world is on a swing to twice the number of buildings by 2060, the letter highlighted that the raw materials used for buildings constitute 21% of the <keyword id="82635" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="greenhouse-emissions">greenhouse emissions</keyword>, globally. Contributing his bit, Gates was addressing climate change via Breakthrough Energy Ventures and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/bill-and-melinda-gates-foundation">Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation</a>, aimed at enhancing healthcare. Climate change Livestock, inclusive of cattle, chickens, sheep, pigs and goats, are <a href="https://news.un.org/en/story/2014/04/466012">responsible</a> for nearly 14.5% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions according to the United National Food and Agriculture Organisation. That means that the emissions from livestock are at par, if not a little in excess, with emissions from transport that stand at around 14% <a href="https://www.epa.gov/ghgemissions/global-greenhouse-gas-emissions-data">according</a> to the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

 The analysis done in the study compares the variation in the levels of GHG emissions across different meat production cycles. Even in comparing the different production systems, intensive rearing is more environmentally friendly than its extensive counterparts. What can India do? There are a quite a few different schools of thought on the matter. While some approach the problem from the consumption side, where human choice behavior is analysed, others believe the solutions lie in changing livestock rearing techniques. The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) is working towards <a href="https://theconversation.com/to-reduce-greenhouse-gases-from-cows-and-sheep-we-need-to-look-at-the-big-picture-56509">tailoring</a> the diet of cattle in such a way that <keyword id="859515" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Methane-Emissions">methane emissions</keyword> are minimised. Using physical and environmental parameters, the ideal feed quantities and mineral supplements are determined. According to their study so far, the tailored diet can mean up to 12-15% less methane emissions from cows and buffaloes. The issues of livestock rearing and consumption patterns are highly localised and need policy changes at a local level. There is no blanket solution that can be applied globally and be conducive for all countries involved.
