Filpkart said that onboarding of more than 50,000 kiranas for the last-mile delivery will also create thousands of seasonal jobs to deliver millions of packages. Flipkart said it has significantly expanded its kirana onboarding programme to make deliveries to customers in more than 850 cities. The number of kiranas joining the programme has doubled since last year. "Through a combination of their hyperlocal presence and innovations by Flipkart, this programme has become a great enabler in strengthening the kirana ecosystem in the country," said Amitesh Jha, Senior Vice-President, Ekart and Marketplace, Flipkart. The company aims to provide a personalised e-commerce experience to millions of consumers while creating opportunities for digital upskilling as well as additional income for kiranas. The kirana programme has been expanded to places like Tinsukia (Assam), Agartala (Tripura) and Kannur (Kerala), connecting kiranas and consumers to the country's fast growing digital commerce. To help kiranas onboard and be active participants in the festive season, Flipkart's team initiated contactless onboarding of kiranas through online application forms where kirana partners directly uploaded details along with required documentation. The team organised digital training on various tools including app-based dashboards and digital payments, helping kiranas transform their business from traditional general trade stores to modern convenience stores. Flipkart said it has made temperature screening using infra-red thermometers mandatory for all employees, vendors and visitors. Persons with suspected flu symptoms are advised to return home. "For our supply chain and logistics network, we have organised more than 3,000 awareness sessions covering over 100k employees across all our facilities on how our employees and partners can minimize their exposure by following simple precautionary measures," Amitesh Jha, Senior Vice President - eKart &amp; Marketplace at Flipkart, said in a blog post on Wednesday. The delivery executives of the e-commerce major are covered with both life and medical insurance, Jha informed. With the rapid spread of <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> across the world, the demand for digital services has increased significantly. Online retail giant Amazon this week announced that it plans to hire 1 lakh employees in the US in its fulfilment centres and delivery network as more and more people are relying on online deliveries for their daily needs due to the coronavirus pandemic. Flipkart also said that it has seen "overwhelming demand for essential products". "We appreciate the dedication and customer-first approach of our supply chain executives, wishmasters and delivery partners during this challenging time. They have reiterated their commitment to serving customers and overcoming many challenges to meet the overwhelming demand for essential products," Jha said. "The onus is on e-commerce to rise to the demands of the occasion, and we are sparing no effort to ensure that we meet our customers' needs," he said, adding that Flipkart is taking all preventive measures as advised by the World Health Organization. Seeking cooperation from customers in fighting the spread of coronavirus in India, Flipkart requested them to use digital payment gateways for all cash-on-delivery shipments. Flipkart said it is working on making additional delivery options such as contactless delivery available to customers in select locations. "Customers also have the option of requesting the delivery partner to leave their packages at the security booth of their residential complexes in line with their complex's guidelines (in case of online payments)," Jha said.

New Delhi, Jan 14 () Walmart-owned Flipkart on Tuesday said it is strengthening its supply chain infrastructure by setting up two warehouses (fulfilment centres or FCs) in Haryana, a move that will create about 5,000 jobs locally.
 "Spread across 9 lakh square feet, the FCs will help Flipkart significantly scale up its supply chain infrastructure in North India. The FCs will enhance the company's ability to support the delivery and supply chain logistics of a wide selection of large and non-large products (including furniture and large appliances)...," a statement said.
 The facilities will also amplify Flipkart's capabilities to cater to more consumers in the country, it added.
 Unlike traditional warehouses, fulfilment centres are equipped with highly automated pick, pack and shipping processes to facilitate safe and timely processing of orders.
 With these two FCs, Flipkart now has 12 assets in Haryana, including supply chain infrastructure for large appliances, non-large (including mobiles, apparel), grocery and furniture, taking the total asset capacity in the state to over 20 lakh sq ft.
 These assets are spread across various regions in the state including Binola, Bilaspur, Luhari and Ballabgarh.
 During the last festive season, Flipkart's FCs in Haryana served up to 40 per cent of the total number of orders from across India, the statement noted.
 "Flipkart's new investment in the state will create over 5,000 jobs, which will also include employment opportunities for women and people with different abilities. The company currently employs more than 10,000 people in Haryana across its supply chain and has created thousands of indirect jobs in the state," it added.
 It has also partnered with the National Skill Development Corporation's Logistics Skill Sector Council to provide training on nuances of supply chain and delivery to ensure skill development, career progression and growth for its employees.
 "Today we have one of the strongest supply chain networks in the country, making over 40 million deliveries every month and employ more than 120,000 people across the country," Flipkart Senior Vice President Amitesh Jha said.

Amazon, Flipkart, Delhivery create lakhs of ‘seasonal jobs’ as they gear up for the festive season

 <keyword id="3369419" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ekart-courier">Ekart Courier</keyword> will provide door-to-door pick up service in less than four hours and deliver parcels within two days. 
 
Customers who will make the booking will be able to locate the parcels in real time through SMS updates and tracking. 
 
This means, Ekart Courier will impact the present day courier services, ending long queues and worries over delay in deliveries. 
 
Ekart plans to capture 5-10 per cent of the market in the first year and expects revenue of over Rs 200 crore of the Rs 22,000 crore market. 
 "We expect this service will be as disruptive as <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>'s entry into the ecommerce space. The industry is still very unorganised. No one provides an end-to-end proposition that consumers want," said Amitesh Jha, vice-president at Ekart, told ET. 
 
The Ekart Courier will debut from Bengaluru next week and in 50 other cities by September. It will give parcels at any of the 3,800 pincodes it directly reaches across the country. 
 
"Courier market is very price-sensitive. Typically, the yield players get in the courier market is Rs 15-25 per delivery. But for etailing-focused logistics players, the cost structure is way too high to address that market because they get around Rs 85 yield per delivery and are still not profitable," Manish Saigal, managing director at consulting firm Alvarez &amp; Marsal, told ET. 
 
However, Jha is not worried about the competition.

Beware! Flipkart’s Ekart is making a disruptive entry into courier service segment

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/51696254.cms" /> Noida-headquartered online marketplace <keyword id="6357120" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="PayTM">Paytm</keyword> has decided to join hands with e-commerce giant <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>’s logistics platform Ekart. It is piloting a service where goods shipped from Paytm will be delivered by Ekart. This is hinting at an approaching collaboration between the leader of the market Flipkart and its fast-growing rival. 
 
"We are integrating Ekart with our network of logistics players to offer end-to-end experience for both consumers and sellers," said Sudhanshu Gupta, head of business at Paytm. 
 
Ekart is also looking forward to roping in a rival online marketplace, as it wants to fashion itself into an independent business and not depend only on Flipkart. 
 
Talking of Paytm, the collaboration would help it in building a greater focus on smaller towns and cities, from where it gets more than half of total orders from the total of 1 lakh orders per day. 
 "Ekart will be an interesting experiment for us," <keyword id="198636" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vijay-Shekhar-Sharma">Vijay Shekhar Sharma</keyword>, Paytm’s CEO told ET. "Since we are a marketplace, we work with different vendors to enable our merchants reach a wider consumer base." 
 
Ever since Binny Bansal has become the CEO of Flipkart, Ekart has been seeing a rise in its collaborations. In the recent past, it has also begun a pilot to deliver shipments for Jabong, the online portal dealing in fashion. 
 
"Ekart has the capability to transport over 5 lakh shipments from different sellers across India. We will be using the same capabilities to offer services to other companies," said Amitesh Jha, a VP at Ekart. 
 
All three of India's top ecommerce companies viz Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal, have their in-house logistics companies, so that they can deliver timely shipments. 
 
"Logistics is still broken in India and companies need to quickly build capabilities in ancillary areas and offer value-add services to customers in order to create a hook," said Prahlad Tanwar, director for transport and logistics at KPMG.
