2016 was much of euphoria for tourism industry. In the last few years, the tourism in India has witnessed a major boom. Also many foreign visitors coming to India prefer cultural and natural destinations and tend to stay away from the cities. However in China, cities are also major draws. A lower tax rate for hospitality business and the lower rate of interest for real-estate development will ensure opening up of more supply for the nascent branded budget hospitality sector. This will be in line with supporting small owner-friendly policies, such as the exemption of service tax in the sub-Rs. 1000 hotel room category.”

China’s tourism is much ahead of India. Here’s why

Senior managers, working at startups like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Flipkart%2C+Snapdeal+and+Amazon">Flipkart, Snapdeal</a> and Ola, are no more interested in these top consumer Internet companies in India. They are heading for the exit door, with many citing a mixture of low job satisfaction and poor work-life balance.

 The latest exit was of <keyword id="843670" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Ravi-Vora">Ravi Vora</keyword>, the head of strategic initiatives at Flipkart, who quit this week. Others to have quit the country's largest <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=online+retailer+">online retailer</a> include engineering head <keyword id="6518849" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Sameer-Nigam">Sameer Nigam</keyword>, who left in July. 
 Chief Technology Officer <keyword id="1937803" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Amod-Malviya">Amod Malviya</keyword> transited to an advisory role in July. In February, Delhi-based Snapdeal saw its then CTO <keyword id="2049459" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Amitabh-Misra">Amitabh Misra</keyword> leave to start his own firm. 
 
Restaurant listing guide <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Zomato+">Zomato</a> has seen the exits of marketing heads <keyword id="499896" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Alok-Jain">Alok Jain</keyword>, and subsequently <keyword id="584823" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Rameet-Arora">Rameet Arora</keyword>, who quit within 10 months. Jain has started an ondemand food venture Yumist.

Seniors being relegated: Experts tasked with finding fresh talent for these high-growth startups say several exits stem from seniors being relegated when hierarchies alter. "Shrinking interactions with the founders coupled with decreased influence on impactful decisions are two most frequently cited reasons for individuals to move out of startups," Harish Kumar, founder of headhunting firm Wenger &amp; Watson, told ET. 
 
Volatile work environment, long working hours, and high levels of stress are also wearing out several senior executives at startups. "The culture of having beds for technology teams in offices can backfire and hurt emotional health," said a senior technology executive who quit a Delhi-based startup. 
 
Bid to lock in talent: Dissatisfaction with compensation is also leading to exits in several cases. Startups typically offer employee stock options aimed at locking in talent from a year to four years. Often, employees can cash in about a quarter of their holding after a year. "After that, shares can be redeemed on a pro rata basis every month or quarter, depending on the contract," said Seetharaman. 
 
However, this is only at an ideal startup. At several others, founders allow only a tenth of promised stock to be sold at the end of a year, with vesting periods rising incrementally to 40% at the end of four years. "There can be additional harsh lock-ins, which make the packages unfair," said the Delhi-based founder of an executive search firm who works with companies such as Flipkart, Zomato and Snapdeal. 
 
Senior employees are realising that they too have a chance of making big returns from India's unprecedented startup boom where the top Internet companies have between themselves soaked up some $6 bn of funding so far.

To compete with rivals <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> and <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword>, the country’s largest online marketplace, Snapdeal has roped in <keyword id="6354287" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bharti-Airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword> senior executive <keyword id="1973987" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Anand-Chandrasekaran">Anand Chandrasekaran</keyword> as its new chief product officer, according to an Economic Times report. Snapdeal, run by <keyword id="2848551" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jasper-Infotech-Pvt">Jasper Infotech Pvt</keyword>. Ltd, is relying on him to create a products and services ecosystem similar to that of Chinese eCommerce giant <keyword id="163405" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Alibaba-Group">Alibaba Group</keyword>. It also wants to diversify and build capabilities in another fast-growing Internet commerce segment — digital bill and utilities payments. Chandrasekaran, 36, has 15 years of work experience in companies like online technology firm <keyword id="6363100" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Yahoo">Yahoo</keyword>, software innovator Openwave and mobile service management firm Aeroprise Inc. As a chief product officer at Bharti Airtel, he led product strategy for music streaming service Wynk and Airtel Money. The <keyword id="101399" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Stanford-University">Stanford University</keyword> alum also played a key role in the launch of the highly criticised Airtel Zero, which <keyword id="6391709" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Net-neutrality">Net Neutrality</keyword> supporters said violated the concept of a free Internet. Chandrasekaran's appointment at Snapdeal comes three months after Flipkart onboarded former <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword> executive <keyword id="278552" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Punit-Soni">Punit Soni</keyword> to fulfill a similar role. His is the latest in a series of leadership level hires at the company in the past 12 months, a period that also saw the departure of two senior executives — chief financial officer Aakash Moondhra and chief technology officer <keyword id="2049459" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Amitabh-Misra">Amitabh Misra</keyword>. 

	Chandrasekaran's new role is expected to be more wide-ranging than that of Soni, given that Flipkart continues to remain focused on the eCommerce products space. 
 

	Snapdeal, following a series of buyouts, the latest being its $450 million (Rs 2,870 crore) acquisition of mobile recharge platform Freecharge, has begun offering services including mobile recharge, online bill payment facilities and home and personal loans as it looks to grab a larger slice of the country's consumer market estimated to be worth $1.4 trillion. 
 

	"I look forward to working towards building a highly scalable, sustainable, innovative and future ready technology platform," Chandrasekaran said in a statement on Wednesday. 
 Snapdeal expects its new bets to start paying off from this fiscal year itself. Chief executive <keyword id="219793" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Kunal-Bahl">Kunal Bahl</keyword> recently indicated that he expected Freecharge to contribute about $1 billion to Snapdeal's overall gross merchandise sales by March next year.

Nasdaq-listed travel company <keyword id="54613" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="makemytrip">MakeMyTrip</keyword> has forayed into substitute settlement space through <keyword id="3722344" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rightstay">Rightstay</keyword>. The platform, which acknowledges appointments through a mobile application and the site, has effectively enlisted more than 10,000 properties running from guesthouses to estates. 
 
Deep Kalra, chairman of MakeMyTrip, anticipates that the number will ascend to more than 100,000 before one year from now's over. 
 
He said the move was driven by an interest for alternate homestay alternatives from clients booking up for the gateway, and that every one of the hosts on the new stage have been by and by handpicked by the organization. 
 
“Besides some 30,000 best branded hotels, MakeMyTrip platform had guesthouses and villas which were ready to update their inventory and we found strong demand for them. “We want to explore other regions like the Northeast and are expecting to add about 25,000-30,000 properties by the end of this financial year. People are travelling like never before. I haven't seen a period of more robust growth for domestic air travel in my entire MakeMyTrip tenure,” he said, adding that the portal has grown about 30% in the past 18 months on air travel. 
 
While online entrance is much lower for inns comparitively, MakeMyTrip is doing around 30,000 or more room evenings every day, Kalra said. "It's a very exciting time. We did a fundraise earlier this year and we are well positioned” 
 
Chinese travel site Ctrip contributed $180 million, or about Rs 1,195 crore, in MakeMyTrip in January.
