Small retailers must grasp technology and <keyword id="436047" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ecommerce">ecommerce</keyword> alongside brick and mortar stores, <keyword id="2665691" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Niti-Aayog">Niti Aayog</keyword> CEO <keyword id="6358887" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amitabh-Kant">Amitabh Kant</keyword> said, while calling for more liberalization with the goal that startups can profit by foreign venture. 
 
“Ecommerce in India is a $25 billion market right now… I can say with confidence it will become $300 billion by 2025,” Kant said at the India Economic Summit, organised by the World Economic Forum and the Confederation of Indian Industry. 
 
Ecommerce can't be halted and is just going to develop more grounded, he said. Favoring liberalization of the economy, Kant said that startups can profit by foreign direct investment inflows. 
He said that startups do not need any protectionist policies and since the government has opened up almost every sector in the last two years it cannot backtrack now. 
 
“Indian startups have the ability to take over the Amazons of the world through their understanding of the Indian market,” Kant said. 
 
Kant is heading a committee that is reviewing ecommerce rules. He likewise said that technology will need to change producing from a dark, filthy and unsafe action to something more impressive. 
“It may lead to some loss of jobs of a particular kind but we have to therefore invest in skilling people accordingly,” Kant said. On whether the state can stay out of the process of digitization and ecommerce, Kant said that government has to spearhead change for India’s transformation into a cashless society. 
 “By 2025 every person will become a walking ATM… Indians are moving to <keyword id="583485" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mobile-Payments">mobile payments</keyword>, use of biometrics at a very fast pace,” Kant said. Talking about the Chinese model of growth, the Niti Aayog CEO said India cannot imitate its neighbor’s policies but it must tap into the huge market potential of the country.

<keyword id="2665691" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Niti-Aayog">Niti Aayog</keyword>, CEO, <keyword id="6358887" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amitabh-Kant">Amitabh Kant</keyword> on Saturday said that there are chances that the brick and mortar business in India may cease to exist in the current form by 2023, considering it’s an increasingly digitalized world we live in today. 
 Kant, who was speaking at the <keyword id="502904" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="TiE-Delhi-NCR">TiE Delhi-NCR</keyword> and <keyword id="71561" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lufthansa">Lufthansa</keyword> organized <keyword id="3331825" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Startup-Expo">Startup Expo</keyword>, said brick and mortar businesses will move towards ecommerce, which means companies will be increasingly driven by technology. 
 
"India is the only country with a billion mobile phones and biometrics. In the last 6-7 months we have added almost 28 crore bank accounts. In the last 45 years we have given license to 19 banks but in the last nine months we have given licence to 23 payment banks, and many of them are telecom companies including Paytm and Airtel. The brick and mortar sector will go dead," he said. 
 
As products and services move online and the world gets connected, traditional businesses will have to go digital, something that is already clearly visible in the retail industry. 
 
 "We are just close to $ 18-19 billion market in e-commerce and take it from me we will be a $300 billion market by 2023. E-commerce is at the very beginning of its radical revolution and as the Internet and smartphones grow, you will also see leapfrog in technology," he said. 
 
He further explained that the traditional banking sector in the form of brick and mortar presence banking will soon face a decline. 
 
"It will all be mobile, telephonic transaction. India will leap frog again. This is because today we are about 350 million using the Internet but 2020-23 there will be about 1 billion people in India using the Internet. Similarly, usage of the Internet will increase with more people on smartphones. A billion Indians with access to the Internet, biometric and using the smart phones we will radically alter the world," said Kant 
 
“Even manufacturing world is getting digitised and the small and medium enterprises must understand that it is digitisation of manufacturing process which will lead to higher level of productivity," he further added. 
 
“Across the world, whether you look at trends in Japan, US or Germany, everywhere is getting digitised. It is inevitable," he said.

Niti Aayog CEO <keyword id="6358887" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amitabh-Kant">Amitabh Kant</keyword> has said that India needs to grow at 9 to 10% every year for at least thirty years. This growth, he said, can prove to be vital in taking Indo-US ties to the next level. 
 
"It is possible to provide greater momentum, greater fillip to Indo-US relationship if India continues to grow rapidly. India is growing at about 7.5 per cent per annum. It's an oasis of growth in the midst of a very barren economic landscape," Kant said at an event organised by American Chamber of Commerce in India. 
 
"But the challenge for India is to grow at 8-9-10 per cent per annum, year after year, for three decades or more. And only when we grow at those rates, our (Indo-US) relationship will get strengthened." 
 <keyword id="6356076" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="indian-economy">Indian economy</keyword> grew at 7.6% in 2015-16. 
 
Kant also stressed on making India an easy and simple place to do business, which would further strengthen our global position. He said that India needs to realise the globalised world that we are in, for which it has to be integral part of the global supply chain.

<ul><li>Speaking at a FICCI event, <keyword id="2665691" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Niti-Aayog">Niti Aayog</keyword> CEO <keyword id="6358887" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="amitabh-kant">Amitabh Kant</keyword> said India’s <keyword id="2966117" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="circular-economy">circular economy</keyword> will create 14 million jobs in the next 5-7 years. </li><li>India is already a leader in circular economy investments. </li><li>Sustainable development and resource circularity is an inescapable necessity today.</li></ul>Amidst India’s looming job crisis, the country’s circular economy will create 14 millions in the next 5-7 years, said Amitabh Kant, CEO of think tank NITI Aayog. Circular economy refers to an economic system which prioritizes waste management and maximum utilization of resources. “By 2050, world population would reach 9.7 billion of which 3 billion people would prosper to middle class consumption level. This would require 71% more resources per capita, thereby raising total mineral and material demand from 50 billion tonnes in 2014 to 130 billion tonnes in 2050,” said Kant, speaking at an event by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). Between economy and ecology Kant also pointed out that India is the fourth largest producer of e-waste in the world. He also suggested that India needs a reconciliation between economy and ecology. Sustainable development and resource circularity is an inescapable necessity today said the NITI Aayog CEO. The effects of avoiding optimum utilization of resources will be high as well. “The corresponding economic impact of these current trends could induce price volatility and supply chain interruptions in critical and strategic materials, leaving a $4.5 trillion loss in global economic growth which could rise to $25 trillion by 2050,” he added. India can create 14 million jobs by investing in sustainable development

<keyword id="3209160" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="DIPP-secretary-amitabh-kant">DIPP Secretary Amitabh Kant</keyword> says India will reduce its massive backlog of patent patency in coming 18 months and will bring down to US, Japan levels. 
 Addressing a jam-packed audience at <keyword id="3003094" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Startup-India">Startup India</keyword> event at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, Kant said <keyword id="388837" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="intellectual-property">Intellectual Property</keyword> Rights applications will be processed as around 1,000 patent examiners have been hired and the work has also been outsourced to IITs. 
 
"In 18 months time we will bring our patent pendency to exactly the same level as in the US and Japan. And in about a year's time we will bring the trade mark pendency down to zero level," said Kant. 
 
About 2.46 lakh patent applications and 5.32 lakh trademark registrations were pending (as on November 1, 2015) due to shortage of manpower. On the other hand, the pendency level is quite low in developed countries like the US and Japan. 
 
When asked what will be done to ensure that Startups are not limited to cities like Bengaluru and Gurgaon, HRD Secretary V S Oberoi said his ministry will provide the backup, handholding and other helps to young entrepreneurs. 
 
"Our effort is to spread this across India...In the next few months I would see a strong element of support that incidentally is not metro or big city oriented. It is really out there (other parts of the country) we hope to concentrate," he added.

Other high case load places that are "critical" in the battle against COVID-19 include -- Vadodara (Gujarat), Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Jodhpur (Rajasthan), Agra (Uttar Pradesh), Thane (Maharashtra), Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and Surat (Gujarat). "These 15 districts are critical in our battle against #Covid_19 Of them 7 show particularly high case volumes. India's success in battling COVID-19 is dependent on them. We must aggressively monitor, contain, test, treat in these districts! We must win here," Kant said in a tweet. India has been under lockdown since March 25 to combat the spread of <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword>, which has infected more than 29,000 people in the country. More than 900 people have died due to the deadly virus. The government had on March 29 constituted 11 empowered groups to suggest measures to ramp up healthcare, put the economy back on track and reduce misery of people as quickly as possible post the 21-day lockdown imposed to contain the coronavirus pandemic. New Delhi, May 15 () The key to winning the battle against coronavirus pandemic is to dedicate efforts to keep the fatality rate low and improve the recovery rate, Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said on Friday. The recovery rate of COVID-19 patients has improved to 34 per cent from 9 per cent on March 18, Kant noted. "The recovery rate of India is on a constant path of improvement. From just 9% on 18 March to 34% today. Our fatality rate is ~ 3% as compared to 14% in Italy and the UK. Key to winning battle is to dedicate our efforts in keeping the fatality rate low and improving our recovery rate," Kant said in a tweet. According to the Health Ministry, the death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 2,649 in India while cases climbed to 81,970. BKS MRMR

New Delhi, Feb 3 () Terming the Union Budget pragmatic, Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said the government is determined to take India on a high growth path.
He further said if the government will be able to achieve disinvestment target of 2020-21 then the Budget will be very successful.
"It is a pragmatic Budget. It is pushes for public private partnership (PPP) in many areas. Budget lays lot of emphasis on AI, quantum computing, roadmap for infrastructure sector. The Budget will put India on right track.
"...The government is determined to take India to accelerated high growth," he said at an event organised by industry body Ficci.
Kant, however, also added that the major challenge of the Budget will be reviving animal spirit and credit flow.
He said the finance minister laid emphasis on macro-economic stability.
"For an economy to grow at 8-9 per cent, animal spirit of the private sector is necessary. India's USD 3 trillion economy can't grow only on the back of investment by public sector," Kant stressed.

Govt determined to take country on high growth path: Kant

New Delhi, Jan 30 () Electric vehicles will become cheaper than combustion vehicles in three years as the price of battery packs of EVs is expected to fall by almost 51 per cent per unit, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said on Thursday.
Kant was speaking at the Mobility Talk Corporate Conclave at the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2020, TERI's annual flagship event being held in the capital.
"Electric vehicles will become much cheaper than combustion vehicles in three years. The price of battery packs of EVs is expected to fall to USD 76 per kilowatt hour (or unit) in three years, down from the present-day USD 156 per unit," he said.
Reaffirming the national vision towards moving to clean mobility, Kant said, given its size and scale of growth potential, Indian industry must be the biggest driver of change to make the country the centre for manufacturing EVs.
"There are two challenges to address: to ensure new form of urbanisation which is based on public transportation, and to ensure India doesn't lose out among global manufactures of tomorrow," Kant said.
Representatives from the auto industry in the session welcomed the direction given by the NITI Aayog CEO, and sought clarity on pathways and policy that the government is looking to take on EVs.
They urged the government to quickly develop a road map, whether to focus on hybrid or fully electric mobility, and policies that can promote indigenous research and development.
Casting his vote in favour of strengthening public transport, Kant said it is essential that innovative and sustainable development is backed by embedding the cities with public transportation and not by private vehicles.
He also stressed on the use of CNG-based transport for travel within cities, liquefied natural gas (LNG) for intercity, and in the long-run, a focus on hydrogen as fuel, especially for public transport.
TERI DG Ajay Mathur said there is a need to decarbonise key sectors such as road economy and in the process push a transition to 100 per cent green electricity-based mobility.
"In order to move towards a shared, connected and zero-emission world, and to realise the full benefits of EVs, it is important that the battery is charged with clean power and not fossil power," he said. AG AG ABH
