Amitabh Bachchan to host reality show to promote Uttarakhand tourism

Mumbai, Apr 5 () Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has pledged monthly ration to support 1,00,000 households of daily wage workers belonging to the All India Film Employees Confederation amid the coronavirus pandemic.The initiative will be supported by Sony Pictures Networks India and Kalyan Jewellers. "Given the unprecedented nature of the situation we are in, an initiative undertaken by Mr Bachchan, 'WE ARE ONE' has been supported by Sony Pictures Networks India and Kalyan Jewellers, through which the monthly ration of 1,00,000 households across the country will be funded," a statement released by Sony Pictures Networks on Sunday read."Through a commercial tie-up with a leading chain of hypermarkets and grocery stores in India, digitally barcoded coupons have been distributed to a verified list of workers from the All India Film Employees Confederation. Furthermore, monetary help has also been extended to those in need," it added.However, there was no information till when these daily wage workers will receive monthly ration from the donators. NP Singh, managing director and CEO, Sony Pictures Networks India, said as part of its CSR outreach, SPN took the initiative of working alongside Bachchan to support the households of daily wage earners of the Indian film and television industry. So far, the writer has uploaded four stories, chronicling the lives of people through fictional characters who have been affected by the lockdown.The idea to take to the digital storytelling was the "most natural" for her, she said. "It wasn't only because of the lockdown. I had to bring forth my most creative self. I was overwhelmed with the situation. I was oscillating between being hopeful and devastated, knowing what all is happening. Each one of us is living these moments and I wanted to put words, memories and stories to these moments," Tahira told .Actor Shreya Dhanwanthary of "The Family Man" fame, decided to make her directorial debut with the micro-series "A Viral Wedding: Made In Lockdown". The made-from-home series follows the story of a social media influencer (Shreya), who refuses to cancel her wedding due to the lockdown."I thought of doing something on the current scenario. Nobody had ever thought that the entire world would be on pause mode. This is unprecedented. It is an attempt to reflect on the reality of the situation in a light-hearted way through this micro-series," Shreya said.The actor believes the shot-at-home format could possibly become a new "avenue" for the entertainment industry. "We are thinking about newer ways to entertain people," she said. Onir has started inviting budding filmmakers to utilise their time in the lockdown by making short film indoors, which he and frequent collaborator-actor Sanjay Suri will judge.Onir was surprised by the response - it grew in numbers every week - and said the whole idea was to engage people in something creative."For me it started with 'Lockdown Diaries' where everyday I was putting out videos of cooking and various things I'm doing. I thought why not extend this. I'm anyway doing my own videos, which are motivational, but a lot of people -- actors and filmmakers -- approach you on social media. "I thought this is a good time to do something from home. This is a good way to look for talent also at the same time you're giving something for people to do, to engage themselves," Onir said. The sentiment to "mobilise creative minds to express different aspects of these times" was what made Suri come on board."It's wonderful that people are able to create in such trying times. Perhaps the most touching stories in recent times will emerge from these feelings. Be it short stories, inspirational videos with workouts, cooking recipes or even live session counselling or chats that people have been doing. Brand Journey Shilpa was 16 and a part of the modelling world when an aerated drinks brand approached her. Today, she regrets falling for money and choosing shortcuts. Shilpa is now wary of the kind of brands she chooses to work with. She has walked out of the meeting rooms if she doesn’t resonate with the brand. “Earlier, I really didn't think about whether I suited the brand. It was only about whether I was getting paid enough to leverage my name. But in the last five years, there has been a change in my thought process. When people take you seriously as a brand or rather someone synonymous with health and fitness, you become more responsible. So if something doesn't resonate with my personality or something that I can't use at home for my family or me, I won't endorse it,” admits Shilpa. N Chandramouli, CEO, TRA Research, highlights how strong her social media currency is, which is one of the reasons why brands still love her. “It is not easy for an actor who has been out of an active acting career for over 10 years to continue to stay relevant. However, Shilpa Shetty has reinvented herself in many new avatars to do what she is good at. She is a fitness icon, TV reality show judge, fashionista, partner in a spa chain, has over 1.6 million subscribers on her Youtube food channel, 6 million followers on her Instagram, among other things. Guess that's more than enough to keep her relevant with new-age millennials and others,” says Chandramouli. Social Media and Brand Expert, Karthik Srinivasan thinks Shilpa’s relatability factor for millennials and Gen Y has worked in her favor. “Shilpa Shetty, I believe, appeals to and can be recognised by a whole lot of middle-aged and older women unlike an Ananya Panday or Alia Bhatt. That relatability is what perhaps works in her favor. Ditto for actors like Vidya Balan. To some extent, it's also a factor of a 40+ woman actor to continue to want attention, work and assignments. Some may choose to shun the limelight and live a more obscure life surrounded by people close to them, as a way to escape the excess attention of earlier times. Shilpa Shetty has been in the limelight long after her exiting the film industry, including her foray into owning teams and so on. So, modeling and films continue to help her position her brand,” explains Srinivasan. An inspiration for other actresses The Khans of Bollywood and actors like Akshay Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan, still continue to be the Top 10 celebrities. Senior actresses, on the other hand, struggle to find film projects. As they vanish from the limelight after they get married, brands stop approaching them. Shilpa is unhesitant to agree that she found her calling much later in her career arc and feels women are finally stepping up to turn the tables. “I found my calling very late but I guess better late than never. Also, times are changing. You see actresses are far more daring today. It's also a more egalitarian world now. Women are given far more opportunities. I think women today are willing to take risks. And yes, it's a different world. And I think that's the only thing that's constant - change,” says Shilpa. Srinivasan also thinks the situation is changing, thanks to actresses like Shilpa Shetty and Vidya Balan and script writers that are breaking the age stereotypes. “I think as an industry, Bollywood (and the regional film industries, in particular) have moved definitely away from age-limits for women actors. While there's always (and still) a demand for young women actors, there are scripts being written for older ages as well, who do not fit the conventional stereotypes of a leading woman in films,” says Srinivasan. He adds, “From a branding point of view, I was very pleasantly surprised to see Tapsee Pannu featured in a Horlicks ad where she was specifically called out as being 30+. Or a Kangana Ranaut playing a mother of a boy in Panga. This scenario was unheard of a few years ago when only men had the freedom to be called 30+, 40+ and still get away with conventional roles in films. 40+ Shilpa Shetty is a variant of the 30+ Tapsee and Kangana.” Chandramouli, on the other hand, feels the onus also lies on actresses. “Brands take endorsements from 53-year-old male actors endorsing colas, and 77-year-old males endorsing everything. When it comes to women celebrities, there are occasions when you will see someone like Madhuri Dixit, who is above 50 years get endorsements. But many don't get as lucky as her. And this age-related aberration is one of the strangest as many times when choosing actors playing an older role, directors tend to cast younger actors. To correct this is the responsibility of female actors as also it is of brands and advertising agencies. Many times due to the paucity of opportunities, women celebrities above 40 tend to start focusing on other areas of their interests in work and personal life. In a highly competitive world, they must continue to stay relevant in their interest areas, stay connected with audiences, and find new interests which find newer fans. Since all endorsements are a commercial arrangement, the fee of endorsement also matters, for the potential endorsers must be willing to adjust fees in line with market demand. For the brands and agencies, it is important to have greater acceptance, to try the different, reink campaigns with such potential endorsers.” While many actresses have come and vanished with time, Shilpa Shetty Kundra has never left the showbiz, setting an example for other female actors in the industry.

OPPO India, the Indian chain of Oppo, a leading global technology brand based in China and having presence in North America, Europe and Asia, will be the ‘Powered By’ sponsor of the eighth season of Bigg Boss, India’s most watched reality show. The show airs on the Colors channel, and is hosted by Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. 
 
The reality show, which enjoys the prime slot for approximately three and a half months, is all set for a huge budget of approximately Rs 150 crore this year as compared to the budget of Rs 120 crore last year. To break even, the advertising rates for this show have been set higher than most of its counterparts and 10-second advertising spots are selling for Rs 3.5-4 lakh, which is a record in itself. Prior to this, the highest ad spots were Rs 3 lakh for 10-second spots for advertising in-between the show Yudh, starring Amitabh Bachchan. The average advertising rates for daily shows are Rs 1.5 lakh for 10 seconds. 
 
Last year, the title sponsorship for Bigg Boss was for Rs 25 crore, which was paid by Vodafone, but this rate has also gone higher by Rs 10 crore. This year, SnapDeal has paid Rs 35 crore for the same. 
 
Talking about the new ‘Powered By’ sponsor, Oppo made its entry into the Indian market in early 2014. It is retailing in over 20 major cities and regions across the country. The company is on an aggressive service and network expansion spree, with a target of 200 service centres in the next one year.

Bigg Boss Season 8 Finds Its Sponsor In Oppo India

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/49270052.cms" />To know whether the UPA's flagship <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=rural+employment+guarantee+scheme+">rural employment guarantee scheme</a> meets the objectives of generating jobs and creating durable assets, the central government has ordered a nationwide review of the Rs 35,000 crore programme. 
 The <keyword id="6355125" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="NDA-government">NDA government</keyword> never liked this scheme and has also received complaints of corruption and pilfering of funds even after an electronic funds management system and biometric authentication of workers were put in place for disbursal of payments to the workers. 
 
There were reports earlier that states used machines instead of hiring workers. Besides, only 28% of the payments were made on time to workers during 2014-15. Therefore, to know the reality, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Swachch+Bharat+Mission+">NDA government</a> has decided to send teams to all states to verify what kind of work is being done, a senior rural development ministry official said. 
 
The government has already taken note of a large number of incomplete works and lack of awareness among many households regarding their entitlements. 
 
The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mahatma+Gandhi+National+Rural+Employment+Guarantee+Act+">Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act</a> is aimed to ensure 100 days of employment in a financial year to adult members of a rural household who volunteer to do unskilled manual work. 
 These teams of four officials each will visit the gram panchayats, talk to the local people and evaluate the impact of the National Rural Employment Generation Scheme (<keyword id="48595" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="NREGS">NREGS</keyword>) and other rural development projects. 
 
The first phase of the exercise will be carried out in 76 districts across all states and Union Territories. "The advantages of NREGS have not reached the poorest. And the programme has never been in the good books of NDA...We need better monitoring at this point instead of completely scrapping the scheme," said Amitabh Kundu, a senior fellow with the Delhi Policy Group. 
 
States will be pulled up where lapses are found in implementation of the programmes which, apart from NREGS, include Indira Awaas Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna and Grameen Kaushalya Yojna. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=PM+Narendra+Modi+">PM Narendra Modi</a> has been critical of NREGS, calling it a living example of six decades of failure of the Congress party. 
 
Although the NDA government has taken steps to overhaul the scheme, it is yet to see results. Already under criticism from the opposition about not doing enough for rural India, the Modi government wants to ensure that its social sector schemes don't just remain on paper. 
 
It is pushing the financial inclusion plan of Jan Dhan Yojna primarily meant for the poor, while also converging other schemes including Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojna and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Swachch+Bharat+Mission+">Swachch Bharat Mission</a> with NREGS. The strategy for rural development is also being realigned after the social and economic caste census showed that a third of the rural households is landless and depends on manual labour for income. 
 
The need to monitor developmental schemes is crucial because the onus of converging and implementing all programmes lies with the state governments. "Common mission reviews have been done for the health and education sector schemes. It is important that we set some national-level monitors for rural development as well," a senior government official said. States will be held accountable for putting in place checks and balances for timely measurement of work, closure of payments, spreading public information and creation of a system of technical supervision.

The fate of the NREGS could be at stake here. The Modi Govt has just ordered a nationwide review

Things that you have fallen in love with and think you cannot live without can sometimes enter your <keyword id="6360041" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="life">life</keyword> to take it… and this isn’t a hyperbole. Look at perfumes, hair sprays, furniture polish, glues, air fresheners, moth repellents, wood preservatives synthetic materials for building and furnishing and you’ll know what I am talking about. Then there is use of chemical products, pesticides, and household care products that help you transform your home into a swachch home but certainly not a safe home. These are all modern day symbols of the immortal art of Da Vinci as our print and AV ads would want us to believe, but they inch us closer to death in more than one way. 
 You taste, touch, or inhale and you’ll know what I mean when I call them the <keyword id="2750177" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Da-Vinci-of-death">Da Vinci of death</keyword>. Even the smoke from biofuels emits the four dreaded pollutants like the particulates, carbon monoxide, polycyclic organic matter, and formaldehyde… and these aren’t innocent spirals of smoke lending that unique flavour to chapatis and dal. With architects now recommending relatively airtight houses even in India (as we have begun to afford air conditioners and radiators etc) the pollutant level is bound to increase because of the resultant reduction in ventilation. 
 
As I sat mulling over these grim facts, my thoughts decided to play a little game on me and asked, ‘Any favourite pollutions that you think should be flogged?’ 
 
Without wasting a moment, I said, ‘Noise pollution. Political pollution. Indoor pollution.’ 
 
‘Aha!’ said my thoughts, ‘so you don’t think outdoor pollution is as bad as the three you’ve mentioned.’ 
 
‘I didn’t say that, did I?’ I said, ‘but I must admit that indoor pollution can induce infections, initiate lung cancer, and even pulmonary diseases like asthma.’ My thoughts then asked me to choose five Bollywood icons and guess how they would react to this simple question: ‘Do you fear indoor pollution?’ 
 
So, there I was sitting on an inexpensive chair in my sparsely decorated home and zipping over to people like Alia Bhatt, Amjad Khan or Gabbar, Sunny Leone, SRK, and Amitabh Bachchan to hear the famous actors say something in their own way. 
 
Well, Alia Bhatt asked me to repeat the question and then clapped her hands and said, ‘I don’t fear anything but do send me an invite for the event.’ 
 
‘Event?’ I asked, confused. 
 
‘Well yes, you did mention pollution and indoor… remember?’ said Alia, cocking her head, smiling, and adding, ‘I think you’re talking about an indoor event and if it is like that AIB Roast, it is going to be fun. Such events must be purified by smiles.’ Well, so that was a rather short interview with Alia and she wasn’t really wrong… we need to begin with a confident smile before we take any action against indoor pollution. Right? 
 
Gabbar was in his elements when I met and simply walked up and down the room before asking, ‘Kitne pollution hain?’ 
 
I said, ‘Sardar, ek… sirf indoor pollution hai.’ 
 
‘Toh fir darr kaisa?’ Gabbar roared, ‘mera naam le lo aur phir sau saal tak pollushun kuch nahin karega!’ 
 
I’m sure what Gabbar was really trying to tell me was that no pollutant ever exists without another killer instinct being born. Just search for this solution and indoor pollution will be easy to counter. 
 
I found myself with Sunny Leone and she just fluttered her eye-lids and coo-ed, ‘Well, lots of women call me an indoor pollution, and I know I’m deadly. Fear means nothing if you have your own action plan.’ 
 
That’s it… I murmured and thanked her because she had clearly told me that only a well-defined and technologically sound action plan would help. 
 
So, I then hopped over to SRK who just ‘humph-ed and hurr-ed! me aside and then taking off his shirt to show me some flabby abs, said, ‘I don’t fear no one. Indoor or outdoor. Poll or no poll. I shun them all. I have to rush to make another flop… bye!’ Well, I interpret this scurried answer as a warning that indoor pollution isn’t something that must be allowed to stay on and cause all those headaches, dry eyes, nasal congestion bouts, nausea, and fatigue… just act fast! Speed is of essence. Obviously then, indoor pollution must not be your guest for life… it could be devastating indeed! 
 
When I asked Sr Bachchan the same question, he replied, ‘Babu ji would have quoted these lines from one of his poems.’ And then he recited two lines before leaving me with my thoughts. 
 
ऐसा सुनता, उस पार, प्रिये, 
ये साधन भी छिन जाएँगे; 
तब मानव की चेतनता का 
आधार न जाने क्या होगा! 
इस पार, प्रिये मधु है तुम हो, 
उस पार न जाने क्या होगा! 
 
And Amitabh too had hit the nail in his own special way… and the lines did seem to talk so favourably about the unexpected losses on the other side, that is, if you crossed over to times of severe indoor pollution. The beauty of a great poem is that it interprets every situation the best way. 
 
So yes, indoor pollution is indeed something that even the Bollywood icons acknowledged in a different manner… and we ordinary mortals must not really overlook the hazards that it poses. 
 
We need to be aware of the issues surrounding indoor pollution… and even other forms of pollution, of course. I mention the indoor form because most of us tend to spend a lot of time indoors and so cannot afford to let it destroy our lives. And, by the way, did I mention that pollutants exist in micron sizes so you cannot actually pick them up and put them in a recycle bag. These micro-sized monsters need specialised busters… though you can reduce your exposure to pollutants if you know what to do in certain cases. 
 
It will be helpful to know that broken CFLs releases mercury, a neurotoxin in the air… so the best action is to simply open the windows and let fresh air come and clear the environment. 
 
Your gadgets have plastic parts… and plastics made with polyvinyl chloride emit phthalates that may lead to hormonal abnormalities and reproductive problems. Plastics also release polybrominated diphenyl ethers, which are flame-retardant chemicals known to cause neurobehavioral changes. So what does one do? Simple. Encourage adequate ventilation until the chemical odour goes away. Be regular in vacuuming around computers, printers, and televisions. 
 
Even glues and adhesives aren’t as virtuous as they seem with their relationship with acetone or methyl ethyl ketone that irritates eyes and affects the nervous system. Rubber cement has n-hexane, a neurotoxin and adhesives are known to have toxic formaldehyde. The secret of escaping these hazards is to encourage a fair degree of ventilation in the house. 
 
Kitchen with their platoon of stoves, heaters, and fireplaces can have an abundance of carbon monoxide that can cause headaches, dizziness, fatigue, and even death in the absence of proper ventilation. Nitrogen dioxides and other particulates, doctors say, can cause respiratory disorders and inflammation of the eyes, nose, and throat. 
 
Isn’t all this serious enough? Isn’t it time to realise that pollution is much more than just exhaust fumes on busy traffic congested roads. It is right there inside a home that you have been thinking of as a safe haven all this while. Pollution isn’t just in the Ganges or existing only as garbage piles on the slopes of pristine mountains—it is right under your nose inside your house. Yes, pollution is surely transforming this world into a global garbage can, but if you do not allow your awareness instincts to act right, your home will be a stinking source of illness and disease even before any other form of pollution overwhelms existence. Therefore, it is time to sit up and say: indoor pollution is a reality and I want our think-tanks to serve us a solution. Prevent your home from becoming a Da Vinci of death!
