Where Flipkart leads in volume, Amazon claims to have the highest sale transactions across all online shopping platforms, according to a Neilsen report. Great Indian Festival "The first wave of the Great Indian Festival was our biggest celebration ever with Amazon.in — witnessing highest share of transacting customers and purchases across all marketplaces in India," said Amit Agarwal, senior vice president and country head of Amazon India. The company states that customers from 99.4% of India’s postal codes placed an order during the sale. On the busiest day of the sale more than 600 flights were in transit delivering Amazon products. Despite the economic slowdown, Amazon claims that there was growth in customers availing credit options on the site. There were 1.5 times as many customers opting for EMIs during this year’s sale as compared to last year. Every one in two customers was availing a credit option was doing so for the first time, doubling the amount of new-to-credit customers. The fashion category brought in the most amount of new customers for Amazon. More than 1 million fashion items were sold within the first 24 hours of the sale going live. Overall, nearly 15,000 sellers on Amazon India saw their sales double and thousands of them recorded their highest sales ever during the first day of the Great Indian Festival. Big Billion Days Smartphone sales were the secret to Flipkart dominating the market share, according to the Redseer report. The company claims that this has been the biggest festive season for the mobiles category on their platform. More 20 different smartphone sold more than 100,000 units each during the Big Billion Days sale. Where mobile phone sales contributed to volume, the fashion category brought in new customers. It saw a 70% growth in sales over last year and brought in 40% of the new users that logged onto Flipkart. Overall, Flipkart clocked in 70 billion views across all categories. The Big Billion Days, Great Indian Festival sale, Snap-Diwali and others provide multiple offers and deals across products to consumers. Redseer report further says that the e-commerce sector will meet 80-100% of the forecasted target of $3.7 billion GMV from their sales alone. “The first three days have been a strong success for e-tailers despite challenging macro environment, indicating that consumer sentiment on online shopping remains bullish. Amazon also announced that Jeff Bezos will transition to the role of Executive Chair in the third quarter of 2021 and Andy Jassy, CEO of AWS, will become Chief Executive Officer at that time. According to an analysis by LiveMint, while the Barclays report evaluated Amazon Pay, it did not include Flipkart’s payment company PhonePe. Flipkart has recently claimed that it is nearly double the size of Amazon. That estimate is based on numbers that show increasing revenues and market share in the past two years. Wal-mart acquired Flipkart earlier this year for $16 billion. With the backing of the US retail giant, it’s likely it will be a close race between the two.

One in every 10 orders came from far flung cities. And Flipkart also managed to set a few records including a delivery to a village called Tezu in Arunachal Pradesh, 100 kms from Myanmar China border, in just 3 days. “Whether it is the uptake of the Hindi interface or the adoption of our affordability constructs, engagement constructs like gaming, consumers have engaged with brands they love like never before. Some 97% of retail in India occurs in store."In retail/e-commerce, despite competition from well-funded global companies, RIL's wide footprint of physical stores along with its omnichannel focus, subscriber reach and regulations governing foreign e-commerce entities could help it gain a 300 basis point market share in high-growth, modern retail," UBS analysts wrote in a January note. <section></section>But for Amazon, losing out on India would be very costly. Amazon has already invested <a href="https://www.vox.com/2019/2/1/18205635/amazon-india-regulations-q4-earnings-prime-online-retail">at least $5 billion in India</a>. Well, believe it or not, Flipkart has attracted 20 million visitors to its online marketplace in just the first 19 hours of 'The Big Billion Days' sale. 
 
The sale, which began yesterday is on for five days. 
 
Flipkart is running the mega sale at the same as 'The Great Indian Festive Sale' of its rival Amazon India and Snapdeal's 'Diwali Sale'. 
 
"We are seeing massive customer engagement with over 20 million total visits in just 19 hours since the event opened on midnight. We are confident that over time Big Billion Days will emerge as one of world's biggest online shopping event," said the spokesperson of Flipkart. 
 
Flipkart had earlier said that it had sold a million products in the first 10 hours of the sale. 
 
The company also credited itself for making these sale events an industry event for the e-commerce players. 
 
"Big Billion Days has become the de facto online shopping event for India. We are happy to note that other ecommerce players have followed Flipkart in making Big Billion Days an industry event," the spokesperson said. 
 
Earlier in the day Amazon India said October 13, the first day of the 'Great Indian Festive Sale' was the biggest day yin the history of the company, without disclosing total figures. 
 
Snapdeal, which conducted a sale of electronic goods on October 12 also announced that the sale had exceeded its expectation with an overwhelming response from customers across the country. The company recorded an increase of 17 times in revenue and was set to cross $100 million (about Rs 651 crore) in sales by the end of the day, it said.

Both represent around 17% of Amazon's total sales, by JPMorgan's estimates, and more than 85% of its operating profit this year.Their rosy view of Amazon's advertising segment is in line with some other analysts. Amazon is among JPMorgan's best ideas for 2019 - here's its big bull case

Mumbai, Feb 3 () Bayer CropScience on Monday reported a profit of Rs 137.9 crore for the October-December quarter of 2019 against Rs 63.1 crore in the year-ago quarter. 
 Total income rose to Rs 873.4 crore in the quarter from Rs 791.1 crore in October-December 2018, the company said in a regulatory filing.
 Commenting on the Q3 results, Bayer CropScience Managing Director and CEO D Narain said, "Prolonged monsoon in October 2019 resulted in a delay in rabi sowing, but good weather in November and December contributed to higher sales and liquidation across India, positively impacting our Q3 performance." 
 In the third quarter, the company also benefited from early gains arising from its integrated product portfolio, cost synergies and one-time consolidation effects, he added.
 Revenue from operations was at Rs 854 crore during the quarter under review, while it was at Rs 775.1 crore in the corresponding period of 2018-19.
 Operating profit was at Rs 161.2 crore in October-December 2019 against Rs 83.7 crore in the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

The report card Flipkart Internet, which handles the e-commerce arm of the company, <a href="https://www.livemint.com/companies/company-results/flipkart-s-net-loss-rises-86-to-rs-3-837-cr-in-2018-19-11572290528106.html">saw </a>its losses widen by 40% to ₹1,624 crore. However, its operating revenues grew by 51% to ₹4,234 crore. That’s not all, Flipkart’s net loss also expanded by a whopping 86% to ₹3,837 crore. Meanwhile, Amazon India’s e-commerce vertical – Amazon Seller Services saw a dip in its losses which came in lower by 9.5% dip at ₹5,685 crore. Amazon’s revenues also grew by 55% to ₹7,778 crore. Its total losses in India crossed the ₹7,000 crore mark. Another blow to Amazon came with its payment arm – <a href="https://www.livemint.com/companies/company-results/amazon-india-s-e-commerce-arm-narrows-fy19-loss-to-rs-5-685-cr-11572291190455.html">Amazon Pay</a> which too posted record losses. It posted a to ₹1,160.8 crore loss which was 24.7% more than its previous fiscal’s loss. So, even with the losses mounting, the two companies continue to fight it out in the market with sales and discounts. In the run up to the festive season, Amazon hit 344 million visits, Flipkart and Myntra combined had 314 million visits in September. Amazon and Flipkart individually had over twice the number of visits than that of Snapdeal, Club Factory, Shopclues, Tata Cliq and Paytm Mall combined.
