His family and fellow soldiers have pushed for years for him to receive the honor that has been delayed due to paperwork, with some military advocates wondering whether it may have been an issue with his race.</p><p>Cashe would be the first Black veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to receive this highest honor. </p><p>Also expected to receive the <keyword id="12469465" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="medal-of-honor" source="Orion">Medal of Honor</keyword> are Master Sgt. Earl Plumlee, a Green Beret who received the Silver Star in 2015, and Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Celiz, an Army Ranger who died in 2018 in Afghanistan. </p><p>Plumlee was previously nominated for the Medal of Honor for his actions during an enemy ambush in Afghanistan in 2013, where he was injured by a detonating suicide bomb vest. He instead received the Silver Star. </p><p>Celiz was on his 5th deployment with the 75th Ranger Regiment in July 2018 when he was killed during a firefight in the Paktia province of Afghanistan. </p><p>It has been widely speculated over the last year that Cashe would soon receive the Medal of Honor. The Department of Defense and the White House approved his eligibility in December 2020, after advocates criticized regulations that kept him from receiving the highest military honor. He was previously awarded the Silver Star. </p><p>Insider reached out to representatives from the Pentagon and the Army who declined to comment for this story. </p>

They reached a peak this weekend when the pop star was spotted cheering on Kelce's team at Arrowhead Stadium alongside his mother Donna.</p><p>Whether the relationship is a real love story, a PR stunt, or something in between doesn't really matter when it comes to one thing: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-travis-kelce-makes-compared-to-taylor-swift-2023-9">financial gains in the millions for Kelce</a>.</p><p>Since Sunday, Kelce has gained more than half a million Instagram followers, according to data from SocialBlade. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/taylor-swift-travis-kelce-nfl-jersey-sales-game-fanatics-merchandise-2023-9">Sales of Kelce merchandise — including jerseys, fatheads, and onesies — spiked</a> 400% on Fanatics' network of sites on Sunday, the company told the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/taylor-swift-travis-kelce-jersey-nfl-d6fc6756069e0c2dc12c0af747941414" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Associated Press</a>, earning him a spot as one of the top five sellers of the weekend. "New Heights," Kelce's podcast with his brother, Jason, has climbed the charts and is now the number one show on Apple Podcasts.</p><p>All of this means big money for the two-time Super Bowl champion and one-time "Saturday Night Live" host.</p><p>"It's estimated Kelce currently makes around $5 million a year in off-the-field earnings, and I wouldn't be surprised if he doubles that number," Bob Dorfman, a sports marketing analyst at Pinnacle Advertising, told Insider. "Kelce was already one of football's most successful endorsers before his hot romance, but now he's sizzling hot — swiftly grabbing the attention and buying power of a whole new fan base and demographic."</p><p>The merchandise sales translate directly to cash: Thanks to a deal negotiated by the NFL Players Association, athletes earn royalties on any merch — jerseys, playing cards, video games — that bears their name, image, and likeness.</p><p>Tom Brady, for example, earned $9.5 million in licensing income in the 12 months ending February 28, 2022, according to the <a href="https://olmsapps.dol.gov/query/orgReport.do?rptId=821749&amp;rptForm=LM2Form" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NFLPA's 2022 filing with the US Department of Labor</a>. Kelce's teammate, Patrick Mahomes, made $3.3 million in the same time frame.</p><p>Kelce's new social media followers, meanwhile, could mean a payoff that lasts longer than a quick fling. </p><p>Though NFL players earn less than some other athletes in endorsement deals, those who have mastered marketing can score quite a payday. Mahomes, for example, will bring in $25 million off the field this year, <a href="https://www.sportico.com/personalities/athletes/2023/nfl-highest-paid-players-2023-qbs-1234735228/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sportico reported</a>, and most of that will come from endorsements.</p><p>Kelce's big-name sponsors include Nike, Pfizer, and State Farm. As he's moved up the social media ranks — he now has 3.4 million followers, compared with Mahomes' 5.8 million — his earnings could multiply.</p><p>Sports influencer marketing agency OpenSponsorship anticipates his rates for social media endorsements could increase "3-5x," OpenSponsorship CEO Ishveen Jolly told Insider over email. A "good tight end," like Kelce, could command low-to-mid six figures per deal, she added.</p><p>"We are already seeing more interest in brands around Travis because he's tapping into a new audience of Taylor's," Jolly wrote.</p><p>Swift, by comparison, has 272 million followers on Instagram, and it's likely many of them have different interests frp, Kelce's typical fans. If the relationship lasts, Dorfman said, it's possible Kelce will break into new sponsorship categories that appeal more to her young, female base, like beauty or fashion.</p><p>Plus, if the Kelces' podcast remains popular, with Swifties tuning in for any details on the pair's potential romance, the ad dollars could pile up. </p><p>"Sometimes, these moments can be distracting to an athlete, but with the proper structure in place, it is a great opportunity to maximize a moment for deal flow," Chase Garrett, CEO of endorsement marketplace Icon Source, told Insider in an email. He likened the spotlight to those of Olympic athletes "who get thrust into unforgettable moments."</p><p>(On this week's episode of "New Heights," Kelce said he would not be commenting any longer on his relationship with Swift in an effort to maintain his and her privacy. That may explain why his representatives did not respond to a request for comment from Insider.)</p><h2><strong>Swift's economic impact is known all too well</strong></h2><p>Swift's economic impact is nothing new. Her <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/taylor-swift-eras-tour-helped-us-economy-2023-9">Eras Tour could generate $4.6 billion</a> in consumer spending.</p><p>For over two decades, there was the Oprah effect: Everything — and everyone — Oprah Winfrey touched turned to gold. Think about brands like <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/executive-personal-assistants-spanx-founder-sara-blakely-what-job-like-2022-9" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Spanx</a> and Carol's Daughter, which all became household names, and people, like <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/inside-dr-oz-quest-for-power-surgeon-gop-senate-candidate-2022-6">Dr. Oz</a> and Toni Morrison, who reached huge new audiences, after being featured on Winfrey's show. </p><p>Swift has had the same impact for a number of years. While she, herself, is the biggest beneficiary of her popularity — her <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/taylor-swift-making-millions-from-eras-mini-residencies-la-toronto-2023-8">Eras tour is set to gross more than $1 billion</a> — the products and people she interacts with often experience spikes in popularity.</p><p>The day after Swift was spotted in a pair of bejeweled jeans in April, the $673 pants sold out, <a href="https://www.billboard.com/shop/taylor-swift-butterfly-rhinestone-jeans-shop-the-look-1235301962/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Billboard reported</a>. The same thing happened to a <a href="https://www.vogue.com/article/taylor-swift-joins-tiktok-reformation-dress" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dress she wore on TikTok</a>. (So far, the New Balances she sported in Kelce's private box are still available.)</p><p>Her paramours have seemingly benefited from her success, too. Her longtime partner Joe Alwyn, for example, scored a Prada campaign the year after the two started dating; many write-ups of the deal referred to him as "Taylor Swift's boyfriend."</p><p>Who knows how this will all turn out for Swift and Kelce. They may not even be an item by the time the next Chiefs game — though thanks to Swift, who's reportedly planning to attend, that match-up has broken a sales record for their opponent, the Jets, <a href="https://www.townandcountrymag.com/leisure/sporting/a45322115/taylor-swift-kansas-city-chiefs-new-york-jets-tickets/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Town and Country reported</a>. But for Kelce, the romance, or whatever it is, could be fruitful beyond his wildest dreams.</p>

Taylor Swift is about to make Travis Kelce a whole lot richer

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Biden is awarding three US Army soldiers the <keyword id="12469465" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="medal-of-honor" source="Orion">Medal of Honor</keyword> on Thursday.</li><li>The three men are Alwyn Cashe, Christopher Celiz, and Earl Plumlee.</li></ul><p>President Joe Biden is awarding three US Army soldiers the Medal of Honor for heroically putting their own lives on the line to save others in combat. Two of the three men did not survive the fight, but others did because of their sacrifices.</p><p>Sergeant 1st Class Alwyn Cashe, Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Celiz, and Master Sgt. Earl Plumlee are receiving the nation's highest valor award for conspicuous gallantry in Iraq and Afghanistan.</p><h2>Alwyn Cashe</h2><div type="image" title="Alwyn Cashe" height="1108" width="800" msid="88327462" hostid="261"></div><p>On October 17, 2005, the Bradley Fighting Vehicle Cashe was riding in was hit by an improvised explosive device in Iraq that set the vehicle ablaze. Though Cashe made it out of the vehicle, which was also taking small arms fire, he went back in to rescue others, refusing to leave them behind.</p><p>Cache pulled seven people from that burning vehicle, even as his fuel-soaked uniform burst into flames, burning him severely, and the enemy fired on his position.</p><p>Though he had suffered second and third degree burns across most of his body, Cashe refused medical evacuation until others were taken out.</p><p>Cashe's sister recalled in an interview with <a href="https://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-medal-of-honor-20141207-story.html">the LA Times</a> that one of his first questions at the hospital was, "How are my boys?" That was his concern, not the severe injuries, the burns across over 80 percent of his body, but his fellow soldiers.</p><p>Despite the care he received at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas, Cashe ultimately succumbed to his serious wounds and died at the hospital a few weeks after the fight.</p><h2>Christopher Celiz</h2><div type="image" title="Sergeant First Class Christopher Celiz" height="4288" width="2848" msid="88327463" hostid="261"></div><p>While leading an operation to clear an area of enemy forces in Afghanistan on July 12, 2018, Celiz's team came under attack from a large enemy force.</p><p>Exposing himself to a hail of bullets, Celiz grabbed a heavy weapon system and began returning fire, allowing the US soldiers and partner force personnel on his team to maneuver to cover, as well as begin treating a critically-wounded team member who needed to be evacuated.</p><p>When a medevac helicopter arrived, Celiz again came out of his cover despite enemy fire to direct the evacuation. He purposefully positioned himself between the incoming bullets and the troops helping to evacuate the wounded service member.</p><p>Once the wounded was safely aboard the aircraft, the other members of his team returned to covered positions as Celiz continued to fire on the enemy from an exposed position near the aircraft.</p><p>As the helicopter was taking off, Celiz was shot, but rather than have the aircraft come back and pick him up amid enemy fire, he motioned for them to leave, ensuring that not only the wounded but also the helicopter crew made it out. Celiz did not survive his injuries and died that day in Afghanistan.</p><h2>Earl Plumlee</h2><div type="image" title="Master Sergeant Earl D. Plumlee" height="2429" width="3238" msid="88327464" hostid="261"></div><p>When a large force of insurgents wearing Afghan military uniforms and suicide vests breached a military base in Afghanistan following a massive explosion that tore a hole in the perimeter wall on August 28, 2013, Plumlee and five special operators grabbed a pair of vehicles and rushed to the breach point.</p><p>As the vehicles took fire, Plumlee used his own body to shield the driver, who was maneuvering the vehicle to provide cover for several injured soldiers.</p><p>Armed with just a pistol and some grenades, Plumlee jumped out of the vehicle and began immediately engaging the enemy. As he moved to cover, he killed an insurgent with a grenade and then shot another one in the vest, causing it to explode.</p><p>Another enemy fighter then detonated his suicide vest roughly 20 feet away as others poured fire on Plumlee's position. While attempting to launch a counterattack, Plumlee was violently knocked into a wall after another enemy detonated his suicide vest nearby.</p><p>Injured, Plumlee fell back but only to link up with a force of US and allied soldiers and continue the fight. With his last two rounds, Plumlee killed another insurgent. And as enemies continued to attack, Plumlee raced through enemy fire to aid a wounded soldier, carrying him to safety and treating his injuries.</p><p>"It was one of the worst gun fights I've ever seen," he later told the Army. "It was a crazy day. It doesn't make any sense. How I didn't get shot, I don't know."</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="210049" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Pittsburgh-Steelers">Pittsburgh Steelers</keyword> offensive lineman Alejandro Villanueva, who is an <keyword id="15350" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Army">Army</keyword> veteran, wore the name of a fallen soldier on his helmet in Week 1.</li><li>Other Steelers players wore the name of a Black teenager killed by police.</li><li>Steelers teammates said they were unaware and surprised by Villanueva's decision, though head coach Mike Tomlin said he knew and approved of Villanueva's choice.</li><li>In 2017, Villanueva watched the national anthem by himself in the locker room tunnel while Steelers players stayed back.</li></ul><p>Offensive lineman Alejandro Villanueva was the lone Pittsburgh Steelers player not to put the name of a Black teenager killed by police on the back of his helmet during Week 1.</p><p>Villanueva, an Army veteran who served in Afghanistan before playing in the <keyword id="103436" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="NFL">NFL</keyword>, instead put the name of Alwyn Cashe, a U.S. Army sergeant who died in Iraq in 2005. Cashe suffered from burn injuries after pulling soldiers out of a burning vehicle, <a href="https://thefallen.militarytimes.com/army-sgt-1st-class-alwyn-c-cashe/1302913">according to Military Times</a>. He was awarded the Silver Star.</p><p>The rest of the Steelers, however, put the name of Antwon Rose on their helmets. Rose was a Black 17-year-old who was shot by a white police officer in Pittsburgh in 2018. Rose was shot after fleeing a car pulled over because it matched the description of a car linked to a nearby shooting, police said. The officer was acquitted of homicide charges.</p><p>The NFL is allowing players and teams to honor victims of systemic racism on their uniforms this year.</p><p>"I did not know about Al's choice for the back of his helmet," quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said.</p><p>Defensive end Cameron Heyward said he was "surprised" by Villanueva's decision.</p><p>Roethlisberger added: "Obviously, that's his choice. That's the amazing thing about the country we live in. Unfortunately, it is what it is."</p><p>However, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters that Villanueva told Tomlin of his helmet plans and Tomlin approved.</p><p>At least one Steelers player seemed to express regret about putting Rose's name on his helmet.</p><p>Steelers center <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CFPUiBSAONJ/">Maurkice Pouncey on Thursday wrote in an Instagram post</a> that he wasn't aware of all of the details surrounding Rose's case. Pouncey said he works with local police departments and wanted them to understand, "I inadvertently supported a cause of which I did not fully comprehend the entire background of the case."</p><p>Pouncey added: "Moving forward, I will make my own decision about what to wear on the back of my helmet."</p><p>The <a href="https://www.steelers.com/news/coming-together-to-remember-antwon-rose-jr">Steelers website said</a> on Monday, September 14, before their Week 1 game, that the Steelers players and coaches decided, "united as one," to wear Rose's name on their helmets for the entire 2020 season.</p><p>Villanueva has gone against the Steelers' plans before. In 2017, the Steelers voted to stay inside the locker room for the national anthem. Villanueva instead <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/alejandro-villanueva-national-anthem-standing-jersey-2017-9">watched from just outside of the tunnel</a>. An Army veteran broke ranks with his Pittsburgh Steelers teammates by putting the name of a fallen soldier on his helmet instead of a police brutality victim, and it caught some of them off-guard

<ul class="summary-list"><li>President Joe Biden awarded the <keyword id="12469465" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="medal-of-honor" source="Orion">Medal of Honor</keyword> to three US soldiers this week.</li><li>Only 3,500 troops have received the military's highest award for valor under fire since it was created in 1862.</li></ul><p>In the last days of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-military-demilitarized-vehicles-and-aircraft-when-it-left-kabul-2021-8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a year of struggle</a> for <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-military-is-running-into-a-social-distancing-problem-2020-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the US military</a>, the White House is <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/soldiers-receiving-medal-of-honor-risked-their-lives-saving-others-2021-12" target="_blank" rel="noopener">presenting the Medal of Honor</a>, the military's highest award for valor under fire, to three service members.</p><p>US Army Sgt. 1st Class Alwyn Cashe suffered fatal wounds saving his troops from a burning vehicle in 2005 in Iraq. Master Sgt. Earl Plumlee, a Green Beret, fought off a Taliban suicide attack on his base in Afghanistan in 2013. Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Celiz, a Ranger, put himself in between Taliban fighters and a helicopter in Afghanistan in 2018.</p><p>The three soldiers enter a very select cadre. Since 1862, when the Medal of Honor was established, only <a href="https://www.cmohs.org/medal" target="_top">3,527 medals</a>, not counting the three presented this week, have been awarded.</p><p>That is an astoundingly low percentage when compared to the number of troops who have served. In World War II alone, more than <a href="https://www.nationalww2museum.org/students-teachers/student-resources/research-starters/research-starters-us-military-numbers" target="_top">12 million Americans</a> served in the military.</p><p>Only those who served in frontline units are likely to earn the Medal of Honor. Indeed, many have been awarded <a href="https://www.army.mil/medalofhonor/statistics.html" target="_top">posthumously</a>.</p><p>Only seven have been awarded to <keyword id="12101902" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="navy-seals" source="Orion">Navy SEALs</keyword> since the unit was officially formed in 1962. These are their stories.</p><h2>Bob Kerrey</h2><div type="image" title="Medal of Honor Harvey C. Barnum, Thomas R. Norris, Bob Kerrey, and Thomas G. Kelley" height="889" width="1186" msid="88344067" hostid="261"></div><p>In March 1969, a SEAL assault team conducted a raid on a small island in Nha Trang in South Vietnam.</p><p>Kerrey was leading one of the two elements as they scaled a 350-foot sheer cliff so the Viet Cong wouldn't see them. As they descended on the other side and neared the camp, the enemy opened fire. A grenade exploded in front of Kerrey, and he suffered grievous injuries.</p><p>Despite his wounds, Kerrey continued to lead his men and fight. Kerrey had the presence of mind at that critical point to coordinate with the second SEAL element and suppress the enemy.</p><p>By the end of the battle, Kerrey was nearly unconscious from the loss of blood, but he continued to lead his men until he was evacuated by helicopter. His actions on that night saved many lives, and the intelligence gained by enemy prisoners was crucial to military planners.</p><h2>Mike Thornton</h2><div type="image" title="Medal of Honor Michael Thornton, Thomas Norris, Brian M. Thacker, and Harvey Barnum" height="739" width="985" msid="88344069" hostid="261"></div><p>Mike Thornton probably has the most unique story on this list. He received the Medal of Honor for saving another Medal of Honor recipient, Tom Norris, another SEAL on this list.</p><p>In October 1972, Thornton was part of a joint US-South Vietnamese SEAL team that was conducting strategic reconnaissance close to the North Vietnamese shores.</p><p>The small special-operations team was there to gather intelligence on enemy movements and numbers. The SEALs had been encouraged to capture prisoners if they were able do so.</p><p>Once ashore, the SEALs encountered a large enemy force. They tried to exfiltrate, but enemy sentries saw them, and a running firefight ensued.</p><p>Norris was wounded in the head, and the South Vietnamese assumed he was dead and left him. But Thornton ran back and carried him to the water edge, all while under fire.</p><p>Then, a Vietnamese SEAL was also wounded, and Thornton carried him too. Finally, the team entered the water and swam to avoid certain death in the hands of hundreds of North Vietnamese. Thornton swam with his two wounded comrades for hours until a Navy warship picked them up.</p><p>Thorton went on to have a successful career in Naval Special Warfare, becoming a plankowner of SEAL Team 6 in 1980.</p><h2>Tommy Norris</h2><div type="image" title="Medal of Honor Michael Thornton, Thomas Norris, Brian M. Thacker, and Harvey Barnum" height="896" width="1195" msid="88344070" hostid="261"></div><p>Six months before the mission with Thornton, Norris participated in a combat-search-and-rescue mission in North Vietnam.</p><p>An EB-66 light bomber had been shot down, and a crew member who had highly classified knowledge of US missile systems was trying to evade capture with hundreds of North Vietnamese on his heels.</p><p>The Air Force had lost five more aircraft trying to save him and decided to stop all sorties due to high casualties. While this happened, another pilot was downed and began evading capture in the area, complicating matters.</p><p>Norris led a rescue party more than a mile into enemy territory in search of the downed airmen.</p><p>After a stressful night and many near misses, they found and rescued the second pilot. By that point, eight days had passed since the first pilot ejected, and he was running out of strength.</p><p>Norris and a South Vietnamese SEAL went in for one last attempt. After many hours and close calls, the two commandos found the pilot and used a captured enemy boat to escape to freedom.</p><h2>Mike Monsoor</h2><div type="image" title="Michael Monsoor" height="1216" width="1621" msid="88344071" hostid="261"></div><p>Monsoor was part of a joint SEAL-Iraqi sniper overwatch team on a rooftop in Ramadi in September 2006.</p><p>The SEALs were providing cover fire and early warning for coalition troops on the ground. Insurgents mounted attacks on their position, but the SEAL snipers stopped them with accurate fire.</p><p>The SEALs' effective fire drew the attention of the insurgents, who then attacked the SEALs on the rooftop with small arms and rocket-propelled grenades.</p><p>Monsoor was standing ready for the attack when an unseen insurgent on the ground lobbed a grenade onto the rooftop. The grenade hit and bounced off of Monsoor's chest. The two other SEALs in the position were covering other sectors and unaware of what had happened.</p><p>Monsoor was the only one who could have escaped the grenade, but he instead jumped on it, sacrificing himself to save his two teammates. He later died of his wounds.</p><h2>Mike Murphy</h2><div type="image" title="Navy SEAL Michael Murphy" height="599" width="799" msid="88344072" hostid="261"></div><p>The team leader of SEAL reconnaissance element during Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan in June 2005, Murphy and his team encountered a deadly dilemma.</p><p>After the SEALs set up their observation post close to their insertion point and to a village, some shepherds discovered their position. After a debate among themselves, the SEALs decided to let the shepherds live and started exfiltrating the area.</p><p>But the enemy was on their heels. Two SEALs were killed in the ensuing firefight, and because of the high mountains surrounding the valley, the SEALs couldn't contact their headquarters and alert them of their situation.</p><p>So a wounded Murphy stepped into the open and used his satellite phone to notify his superiors. He suffered mortal wounds but completed the call while firing at the enemy, a last act of selfless valor that earned him the Medal of Honor.</p><p>The last SEAL with the element, Marcus Luttrell, managed to survive after a days-long ordeal.</p><h2><keyword id="12758516" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="britt-slabinski" source="Orion">Britt Slabinski</keyword></h2><div type="image" title="Navy SEAL Britt Slabinski" height="603" width="803" msid="88344073" hostid="261"></div><p>In March 2002, then-Senior Chief Britt Slabinski received the Medal of Honor for his actions as a team leader at "Robert's Ridge" during Operation Anaconda in Afghanistan.</p><p>A member of the elite Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU) — formerly known as SEAL Team 6 — Slabinksi led his team on top of a mountain occupied by Al Qaeda fighters. Their MH-47G Chinook was peppered by gunfire as it approach, and one SEAL, Neil Roberts, fell off the helicopter and fought alone until he was killed.</p><p>Another helicopter flew the team back to rescue Roberts but was again met by heavy fire. It was forced to land lower down the mountain, and Slabinski and his team fought their way up.</p><p>At some point, Master Sgt. John Chapman, an Air Force combat controller, was wounded, and Slabinksi fought his way to him. Thinking Chapman was dead and under heavy enemy fire, Slabinksi fell back. Chapman, however, was still alive and continued to fight, even charging enemy bunkers, to the end.</p><p>The circumstances of the battle of and of Chapman's death <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/24/us/politics/medal-of-honor-slabinski-trump.html" target="_top">caused</a><a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/24/us/politics/medal-of-honor-slabinski-trump.html" target="_top"> controversy</a> when Slabinski's Navy Cross was upgraded to the Medal of Honor. Chapman later received the Medal of Honor as well, becoming the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/john-chapman-heroics-in-first-medal-of-honor-on-video-2019-7" target="_top">first recipient to have his actions captured on video</a>.</p><h2>Edward Byers</h2><div type="image" title="Navy SEAL Edward Byers" height="600" width="800" msid="88344076" hostid="261"></div><p>Another DEVGRU SEAL and the most recent Medal of Honor recipient, then-Chief Edward Byers earned the award during a hostage-rescue operation in Afghanistan in 2012.</p><p>As the SEALs approached the building in which an American hostage was being held, the enemy heard them. The commandos sprinted toward the building, and Byers, as the master breacher, attempted to tear away six heavy blankets were used as a door.</p><p>The first SEAL into the building was mortally wounded by enemy fires. Byers then stormed into the building, killing one enemy fighter and then another in hand-to-hand combat. He then located the American hostage and jumped on him to prevent him from getting shot in the mayhem.</p><p>While on top of the hostage, Byers attacked another enemy with his bare hands, restraining him until another SEAL killed him. The company said it planned to exit legacy businesses like lighting and locomotives to focus on power, aviation, and healthcare equipment. It also announced it was cutting its dividend in half and restructuring its board and compensation programs.</p><p>And in late February, GE confirmed it would <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/general-electric-stock-price-restating-2-years-of-earnings-2018-2">restate its earnings </a>for 2016 and 2017. The US Securities and Exchange Commission had investigated the company for its accounting of contract assets, which are receivables of revenues that the company recognizes before the cash is actually paid to GE. </p><p>Those contract assets are one of two areas of particular concern to Khanna, who projects first-quarter earnings $0.08 a share, which is below the Wall Street consensus of $0.12.</p><p>"This lower, truer EPS base partly explains why we don't believe <strong>the $0.48/year dividend is safe unless "contract assets" convert to cash on a net basis, and/or the Power market rebounds sharply and soon,"</strong> he wrote. </p><p>He added that his EPS projection could be "even lower if contract assets, a $0.30 plus to C18 EPS, wane."</p><p>And his expectations for those assets aren't bullish.
