The spokesman said a control room has been created by the district administration to provide all necessary assistance to those affected. Efforts are on to neutralise the perpetrators of the terror attack, the spokesman said. Reasi terror attack: NIA team reaches J-K, LG announces Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia each for families of victims

A <keyword id="19925751" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mobile-app" source="keywords">mobile app</keyword> could help predict if a pregnant woman will develop depression in the latter stages of pregnancy, according to new <keyword id="19913261" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="research" source="keywords">research</keyword>. By asking women to respond to surveys during their first trimester, researchers identified various risk factors, including <keyword id="20015710" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sleep-quality" source="keywords">sleep quality</keyword> and <keyword id="20406931" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="food-insecurity" source="keywords">food insecurity</keyword>, for developing depression. "We can ask people a small set of questions and get a good sense of whether they'll become depressed," said lead author Tamar Krishnamurti, an associate professor of general internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, US. "Strikingly, a lot of risk factors for future depression are things that are modifiable -- such as sleep quality, concerns about labour and delivery and, importantly, access to food -- meaning that we can and should do something about them," said Krishnamurti. Identifying women vulnerable to developing depression in the earlier stages of pregnancy could help tailor preventive care and offer support to address underlying causes, the researchers said. For the study, the researchers analysed the survey responses of 944 <keyword id="19905236" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pregnant-women" source="keywords">pregnant women</keyword> who used the app as part of a larger study and did not have a history of depression. In their first trimester of pregnancy, the women responded to questions about demographics and their medical history, along with those on stress and feelings of sadness. Some of the 944 women also responded to optional questions on social factors related to their health, such as food insecurity. All women were screened for depression once every trimester. The researchers developed six machine-learning models using all the data. The best one was found to be 89 per cent accurate in predicting depression in a pregnant woman. A machine learning algorithm is a form of artificial intelligence that learns from past data to make predictions. The accuracy of the model rose to 93 per cent when the researchers included the responses to optional questions on health-related social factors. They found that food insecurity, or access to food, emerged as an important risk factor for pregnant women to develop depression in the latter stages of pregnancy. The researchers are now developing methods to integrate these survey questions into clinical settings and identifying how clinicians could have these conversations with patients about the risk of depression. Mobile app may predict depression in pregnant women

Passenger vehicle registrations dipped to 3,03,358 units last month, as compared with 3,35,123 units in May 2023. "Dealers cited the impact of elections, extreme heat and market liquidity issues as major factors for the dip in sales last month," the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) President Manish Raj Singhania said. Despite better supply, some pending bookings and discount schemes, the lack of new models, intense competition and poor marketing efforts by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) also affected sales, he added. Additionally, the month saw increased customer postponements and low enquiries, Singhania stated. Due to the extreme heat, the number of walk-ins to showrooms dropped by around 18 per cent, he said. Two-wheeler sales rose 2 per cent to 15,34,856 units in May, as against 14,97,778 units in the same month last year. Singhania said positive rural demand on account of good rains in some regions and improved finance availability kept the counters ticking. Three-wheeler retails rose 20 per cent year-on-year to 98,265 units last month. While commercial vehicle sales witnessed an increase of 4 per cent at 83,059 units last month, as compared to 79,807 units in May 2023. "Despite growth due to a low base from last year and increased bus orders, the industry faced challenges due to wholesale pressures, government policy effects, and negative market sentiment," Singhania said. He noted that the near-term outlook for automobile retail is 'cautiously optimistic', influenced by a mix of positive and challenging factors across various segments. Government formation is expected to bring stability and improve market sentiment, Singhania said. Dealers are hopeful about better supplies and positive movement in key sectors like cement, coal and iron ore, he said. Above normal rains during monsoon, is expected to enhance rural demand and support economic activities, he added. "However, extreme weather, such as heatwaves and heavy rains, along with the reopening of schools in July, might delay purchase decisions," Singhania said. Challenges persist, including intense competition, lack of new model launches and poor marketing efforts by OEMs, he said. FADA, which represents over 15,000 automobile dealerships having over 30,000 dealership outlets, collated sales data from 1,360 out of 1,503 RTOs across the country. Passenger vehicle retail sales dip 1% in May as excessive heat, elections impact demand: FADA

The rupee depreciated 10 paise to 83.50 against the <keyword id="19949640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-dollar" source="keywords">US dollar</keyword> in early trade on Monday, largely due to the rise in the <keyword id="19976503" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dollar-index" source="keywords">dollar index</keyword> and US yields. <keyword id="20024982" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="forex-traders" source="keywords">Forex traders</keyword> said uncertainty among market players was down as <keyword id="19895781" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi" source="keywords">Narendra Modi</keyword> was sworn in as Prime Minister on Sunday for a record-equalling third term. However, the strength of the American currency in the international market weighed on the local unit. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 83.48 and lost further ground to trade at 83.50 against the greenback, registering a loss of 10 paise from its previous closing level. On Friday, the rupee appreciated 13 paise to 83.40 against the US dollar. According to Anil Kumar Bhansali, Head of Treasury and Executive Director Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP, the rupee opened at 83.50 largely due to the rise in the dollar index and US yields. "The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) should be present protecting the rupee as existing policies of the government will continue with largely the same cabinet as in Modi-2.0," Bhansali said. Modi will be heading a 72-member Union Council of Ministers putting emphasis on continuity, youth and experience, while also rewarding partners in the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. Along with Modi, senior BJP leaders including Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitharaman and S Jaishankar, all ministers in the Modi 2.0 cabinet, took oath as cabinet ministers at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading at 105.18, higher by 0.29 per cent. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, advanced 0.31 per cent to USD 79.87 per barrel. On the domestic equity market, both benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, scaled record high levels in initial trade. The 30-share BSE Sensex was trading 292.08 points, or 0.38 per cent higher at 76,985.44 points. The broader NSE Nifty was trading at 23,291.50 points. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital markets on Friday, as they purchased shares worth Rs 4,391.02 crore, according to exchange data. Meanwhile, India's forex reserves jumped USD 4.837 billion to a new all-time high of USD 651.51 billion for the week ended May 31, the RBI said on Friday. In the previous reporting week, the overall reserves had dropped USD 2.027 billion to USD 646.673 billion. India successfully defend lowest total ever in T20 WC history with win over Pakistan

<ul><li>Indian stock indices continued their uptrend from the past week and opened at fresh record highs at the opening bell on Monday.</li><li>Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Union Council of Ministers took oath to office on Sunday.</li><li>As the week progresses, analysts believe that investors will keep an eye on the upcoming US Fed interest rate, <keyword id="21998771" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indias-inflation-data" source="keywords">India's inflation data</keyword>, and decisions of the new govt.</li></ul>Indian stock indices continued their uptrend from the past week and opened at fresh record highs at the opening bell on Monday, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Union Council of Ministers took oath to office. A smooth transition in the government formation seemed to have boosted market sentiments. At the time of filing this report, Sensex was at 76,890.34, up 0.3 per cent, and Nifty at 23,372 points, up 0.4 per cent. They hit their record highs at 76,960.96 points and 23,411.90 points, respectively, at opening today. Most of the sectoral indices were in the green. As the week progresses, analysts believe that investors will keep an eye on the upcoming <keyword id="20987217" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-Fed-interest-rate-decision" source="keywords">US Fed interest rate decision</keyword>, India's <keyword id="20104156" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="inflation-data" source="keywords">inflation data</keyword> (both retail and wholesale), and decisions of the new government. Allocation of ministry portfolios to the newly sworn in ministers would also be keenly tracked by markets. India's retail inflation eased to 4.83 per cent in April, down from 4.85 per cent in March. However, consumer food price inflation surged to 8.70 per cent from 8.52 per cent last month. The retail inflation in India though is in RBI's 2-6 per cent comfort level but is above the ideal 4 per cent scenario. "...global cues, particularly the upcoming US Fed meeting, will be closely watched by participants. The recovery following the post-election decline suggests resilience among participants, and we expect the prevailing tone to continue," said Ajit Mishra, SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd. "The renewed participation of sectors like IT and FMCG, which were previously on the sidelines, supports our confidence. However, traders should remain cautious and focus on stocks that are moving in line with the benchmark," Mishra added. "Next week's focus will be on the allocation of key cabinet portfolios such as Finance, Defense, Roads, Energy, Commerce, and Railways. The market will continue to be volatile with upward biasedness," Siddhartha Khemka, Head - of Retail Research, at Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd, said over the weekend. Dalal Street was expecting a historical spurt in the benchmark indices after the exit poll but failed to see what was coming the very next day. On June 4, the poll results day, the market witnessed bloodbath when Sensex declined by a whopping 4,389.73 points while Nifty fell by 1,379.40 points. Indian stocks witnessed a bloodbath on the day the Lok Sabha results were announced, where incumbent BJP performed below par and seemed it may fall short of exit poll predictions and the majority mark on its own. The national democratic alliance (NDA) though managed to get a comfortable majority, eventually. Many investors booked their profits they accumulated from the gains they made a day after the exit poll predictions indicated comfortable majority for BJP. All of the losses incurred on June 4 have been recovered over the next couple sessions and the indices are again at their record highs. "After the roller coaster ride last week the market is likely to take a breather in the near-term. It is important to understand that the major driving force in this bull market is the Indian retail investors including HNIs. Big selling by FIIs is getting eclipsed by the aggressive buying of DIIs and retail investors. The fact that retail investors bought equity for Rs 21179 crores on June 4th, the day Nifty tanked 5.9 per cent, indicates the buying power and optimism of the retail investors," said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services. "This is a structural long-long term trend. FII selling on concerns of high valuations will be easily absorbed by DII plus retail buying. So, if FIIs swim against this trend, they will underperform in one of the best performing stock markets in the world. That said, retail investors should not chase highly valued mid and small caps. Safety is in largecaps."
