Aligarh (<keyword id="19894922" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh" source="keywords">Uttar Pradesh</keyword>) [India], April 9 (ANI): Every election season ushers in a slew of party symbols that range from the mundane to the outlandish. The Lok Sabha elections 2024 are no different. <keyword id="19941423" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Independent-candidate" source="keywords">Independent candidate</keyword> from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, <keyword id="21244546" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pandit-Keshav-Dev" source="keywords">Pandit Keshav Dev</keyword>, decided to make the most of what the <keyword id="19895782" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Election-Commission" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Election Commission" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Election Commission">Election Commission</keyword> has allotted to him as the poll symbol- a pair of slippers. Aiming to build recall of people, Dev was seen sporting a garland of 7 slippers around his neck during his campaign. Lok Sabha polls will be held in seven phases beginning April 19. Uttar Pradesh, which sends the maximum number of MPs, 80, to Parliament, will vote in all seven phases. Voting for phases one and two will be held on April 19 and April 26. Next, the state will once again poll in phases three and four on May 7 and May 13. The Uttar Pradesh electorate will also vote in phases five, six and seven on May 20, May 23 and June 1 respectively. Aligarh will go for polls in the second phase on April 26. The counting of votes will take place on June 4. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP candidate Satish Kumar Gautam won from the Aligarh garnering 656215 votes. BJP defeated BSP Dr. Ajeet Baliyan who got 426954 votes. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 71 seats with a 42.6 per cent vote share, while Congress settled for only 2 seats with 7.5 per cent of votes. (ANI)

One of the first major steps taken by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/no-surprises-here-hindu-hardliner-up-cm-yogi-adityanath-clears-20-acres-of-land-for-ramayana-museum/articleshow/57752201.cms">Yogi Adityanath</a> after he took over as Chief Minister of <keyword id="6357713" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> was to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/slaughter-houses-closed-cow-smuggling-banned-yogi-adityanath-is-keeping-up-bjp-promises-and-how/articleshow/57772806.cms">ban all the "illegal" slaughterhouses</a>. This essentially shut down almost all such abattoirs, leading to meat going off from UP residents’ menus. 
 <keyword id="44216" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aligarh-Muslim-University">Aligarh Muslim University</keyword> (AMU) hostels too were forced to serve the students a <keyword id="4358878" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="pure-vegetarian-menu">pure vegetarian menu</keyword>, which became difficult to digest, since they were being served meat every day in their hostel mess earlier.

Fed up of this sudden change, students of AMU have written to the Zameer Uddin Shah, the vice-chancellor of the university, seeking his intervention.

 The issue also caught the attention of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader <keyword id="189230" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Asaduddin-Owaisi">Asaduddin Owaisi</keyword>, who tweeted, "15000 students in Aligarh Muslim University have not been served meat (buffalo) since 26 March and BJP says we are not targeting?" 
 
In response to the letter, the management has said that the hostels require over 500 kg meat (buffalo) every day for their 19 dining halls, and the management is unable to arrange this quantity because of lack of operational slaughterhouses in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Aligarh-movie-on-AMU-professor-Dr-Siras/articleshow/50816657.cms">Aligarh</a>. 
 
To this, Kalika Singh, regional officer of UP Pollution Control Board, said, "Of the seven slaughterhouses in Aligarh, four are operational at present. But due to non-availability of animals, they, too, are not providing any meat."

AMU students seek vice chancellor’s intervention in ‘pure vegetarian’ menu

<ul><li>The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to book the two accused under the National Security Act (NSA) and transfer the case to a fast track court. </li><li>The girl was reportedly raped, murdered and dumped in a dumping ground near her house in Tappal, <keyword id="394750" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aligarh-district">Aligarh district</keyword> in Uttar Pradesh with her eyes gouged out. </li></ul>Police has detained Zahir and his and his accomplice Aslam accused of raping and murdering a 2.5 year old girl following an arguement with her parents over a debt of ₹10,000. The two accused are said to be the neighbours of the victim. The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to book the two accused under the National Security Act (NSA) and transfer the case to a fast track court.

 The girl was reportedly raped, murdered and dumped in a dumping ground near her house in Tappal, Aligarh district in Uttar Pradesh with her eyes gouged out. She was found later on June 2 after she went missing for three days. According to the report, mutilated body was discovered after a pack of stray dogs had been spotted carrying what appeared to be human body parts. The Bollywood celebrities are demanding "immediate and strictest punishment for the heinous crime".
