Karan Johar makes space for 'positive energy' by quitting Twitter

PVR has said that over one lakh tickets have been pre-booked for the coming weekend. “Finally, some relief for the industry. received #Brahmāstra *day-wise data* (advance booking) of a leading multiplex chain. Observations say that tickets sold are at 11,558 which is a very positive start, since advance opened at select locations only,” <a href="https://twitter.com/taran_adarsh/status/1565973786368675841?t=OJ1okV-x7JlFgPVi5qq65g&amp;s=19">tweeted business analyst </a>Taran Adarsh. On the basis of strong advance bookings, Elara Capital expects a strong opening with earnings of ₹20-22 crore over the weekend. “The lifetime box office (collection) for the film is estimated to be in a wide range of ₹130-200 crore, basis the strong advances,” says a media note by the brokerage firm. However, the science fiction movie as it’s being called, has been made over a massive budget of ₹410 crore and even if the upper end is breached it will earn only half of what was spent on its making. The movie is bankrolled by Karan Johar owned Dharma Productions along with Starlight Pictures, Prime Focus and Star Studios. The movie stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt and is the first of the franchise of three movies. “Brahmastra is the first sci-fi based Hindi franchise, and augurs well, as audiences want to watch large scale content in cinemas with visual effects. The film has seen strong acceptance/advances in the premium format screens (Imax, 3D etc), given the nature of content,” said Karan Taurani of Elara Capital. Word-of-mouth publicity But even for the movie to earn ₹200 crore, it would need a lot of good reviews that would bring the audience to the theatres. “We believe a positive word of mouth and audience acceptance can help the film breach the upper end. It will be tough to provide any concrete estimates unless we get to know reviews, as most recent estimates have been revised downwards post reviews. Hope it’s the other way round (positive side) for Brahmāstra as it’s a very large franchise movie and Hindi Box Office desperately needs a hit movie,” says Taurani. However, if the movie turns out to be a hit, it could rake in the moolah for theatre owners who have been hurt by the dismal performance of the much-hyped recent film releases – <keyword id="4632769" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Liger" source="Orion">Liger</keyword> and <keyword id="14924108" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lal-Singh-Chaddha-" source="Orion">Lal Singh Chaddha.</keyword> “A film like Brahmāstra can provide support (to) ticket prices and spend-per-head growth too, as the film is available in multiple premium formats – average ticket price and spend per head have been 15-25% higher than pre-Covid levels until last quarter for multiplex chains,” said Taurani. The brand smartly created a series, which made people invested in the characters and curious about what was coming next. The aim of PhonePe was to take a pointed message to the audience, that the platform is an easy and safe gateway for making online payments. While the ads were simply trying to showcase the features of the app, which otherwise would not have made for interesting storytelling, the way the platform chose to take its message to its audience was interesting. Having Khan and Bhatt also helped add some charm to the campaign. Despite the campaign still running, the ads have had the desired effect. The brand is already witnessing a significant positive impact on brand recall and business metrics. We recently caught up with Richa Sharma, Director - Brand Marketing at PhonePe to understand how they pulled off the ad series and what is helping them stand out in the clutter. Excerpts: Q) PhonePe's series of ads featuring Aamir Khan and Alia Bhatt have been well received, both by consumers and people from the industry. What do you think is it about the storytelling that has helped it stand apart at a time when so many brands are coming up with ads? There are a few barriers/ reasons in consumers’ minds when it comes to digital payments that have held them back from trying it out. We wanted the campaign to address some of those questions people have in their minds in a very crisp yet engaging manner. The creative device of a police station set-up and episodic treatment make for entertaining content that lands the message of how simple, safe and quick it is to use PhonePe and the fact that it's already the trusted choice of crores of customers and merchants across India. Q) Who is the agency behind the ads? What is it you wanted to achieve with this ad series? We have partnered with Leo Burnett India for the campaigns. The objective was to introduce digital payments to a billion Indians, explain its benefits such as easy to use, safe and ubiquitous to users. The series of adverts explain the key takeaways through an engaging storytelling format that unfolds over six, 20 sec adverts. While each ad talks about a different reason to try PhonePe, yet the story picks up from where the previous ad ends. This episodic treatment was chosen to create engagement and to get customers excited and keep them guessing about the next one, while continually reinforcing the key message of using PhonePe for digital payments. Q) A lot of brands during IPL have made use of cricketers and you have stuck with Aamir and Alia. Do you think that helped you stand out? We believe that a great campaign comes down to the ability to tell a great story. The simplicity with which the key messages were communicated, the engaging storytelling format and the episodic treatment to get the customers engaged are the crucial ingredients in our successful campaign. In addition, the right ambassadors who resonate with our brand are key. Both Aamir Khan and Alia Bhat are perfect as the face of our brand as they are both a powerhouse of talent and appeal to Indians across the country. They are inspiring and bold and personify values of integrity and trust that strongly resonate with the PhonePe brand. Q) From an effectiveness standpoint, have you seen an uptick in the number of people coming onto your platform? Our objective behind running this campaign was to reach the massive audience that’s not yet gone digital for payments. The key focus is to remind the audience that PhonePe stands at the vanguard of safe, easy and instant digital payments and financial services for each and every Indian. The campaign has been well received by all consumer cohorts - current users, category non-users alike, with the adverts garnering over 425 million views on YouTube and Facebook. While the campaign is still ongoing, there has already been a significant positive impact on brand recall and business metrics along with positive engagement and organic love being shown by audiences on digital platforms. We have already surpassed the campaign targets that we were tracking and with cricket now kicking in full flow, it's only going to deliver bumper results in the coming month. We are extremely excited to be associated with India’s biggest sporting event. Our association in the past has proven to be fruitful, giving us a platform to create visibility and high brand recall for PhonePe. It has also helped us create and increase awareness around digital payments across different user segments in the country.

New Delhi, Nov 14 () Alia Bhatt-backed StyleCracker on Thursday said US-based investor AMJ Ventures has invested USD 2 million (about Rs 14 crore) into the company.
 The fashion-tech start-up will use the funds towards building out further capabilities in machine learning and in strengthening its moat on the personalisation front, StyleCracker co-founder and Managing Director Dhimaan Shah said in a statement.
 "The funds will also be used to build a strong pan-India presence...StyleCracker has grown rapidly since inception at a CAGR of over 150 per cent and is on track to grow the business over 250 per cent this financial year, after its funding from AMJ Ventures," he added.
 The rapid growth is complemented by healthy economics with the company turning profitable at a unit economic level, he said.
 AMJ has previously invested in Indian start-ups like Avail Finance and Propelld.

* IAN Fund invests Rs 15 cr in Zypp
 IAN Fund on Thursday said it has invested Rs 15 crore in e-scooter micro-mobility start-up Zypp.
 IAN Fund led the pre series-A round with prominent IAN members also participating, a statement said.
 Based out of Gurugram, Zypp (earlier Mobycy) has a fleet of IoT-powered electric scooters that commuters can use to fulfill their daily micro-mobility needs within a range of 5 kilometers. Incorporated in August 2017, the company has over 50 employees. 
 "We will leverage the capital to scale by strengthening the fleet with 5,000 e-scooters within the next few months. We are also looking to expand our geographical footprint across NCR along with 5 other Indian cities, and then to South East Asia and Europe in the coming years," Zypp co-founder Rashi Agarwal said.
 Agarwal added that the company plans to have 20,000 scooters on the road by end of 2020.
