<ul class="summary-list"><li>Caroline Cronin said in a viral TikTok post that she was "ghosted" by "<keyword id="11910910" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="the-bachelor" source="Orion">The Bachelor</keyword>" producers.</li><li>She said that in a Zoom audition, she was asked to stand and "the guy looked at my body."</li></ul><p>In a video posted earlier this month, the TikTok user <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@carolcro0/video/7049842955166797061?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1">Caroline Cronin said she was "ghosted"</a> after "The Bachelor" producers saw what her body looked like during a Zoom audition.</p><p>Cronin, whose TikTok bio describes her as an actor, originally posted a video in November, which has since been deleted, about being contacted by producers of the hit reality dating show.</p><p>"When you get a DM from Bachelor casting producers but you're a size 6-8," the text overlay on that post read. </p><p>In her January 6 video, Cronin said she did eventually meet with casting producers for an audition over Zoom, which involved talking about her dating history and where she was in her life.</p><p>At one point during the call, Cronin said in the video, producers had her "stand up over Zoom, like take a step back from my computer and the guy looked at my body."</p><p>She was then told someone would get back to her, she said, adding: "They ghosted me like all the other men in my life." </p><p>Cronin said in the video that she was originally excited for the opportunity and thought it was "a good thing" that she was contacted "because I'm not the typical beauty standard, I think, for what the show normally presents." She added that, in her view, while the producers had "done a really great job" with "diversifying the cast of contestants" in terms of race, they "never really diversify the body type of the people that are on the show." </p><p>She said that since she was scouted on Instagram and didn't "lie" on her profile, she didn't think her size mattered. But after the audition, Cronin said, she got "the feeling" that her body type played a part in why she was rejected from the show. </p><p>In a statement to Insider, Cronin said, "I never meant for my video to come across as bitter or upset for not being cast. That's life." </p><p>The point of her TikTok, Cronin added in her statement, was "to raise awareness about the lack of <keyword id="12948930" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="body-diversity" source="Orion">body diversity</keyword> within the franchise, and it required the context of my interview experience to make my points."</p><p>She told Insider that as soon as she was asked to stand up for a "full-body shot," her first thought was, "Oh, OK, so I don't stand a chance."</p><p>"This isn't how things should be," Cronin added.</p><p>This isn't the first time the issue of body diversity has come up regarding "The Bachelor." In 2018, Glamour's <a href="https://www.glamour.com/story/the-bachelor-2020-contestants">Christopher Rosa wrote an op-ed</a> about the issue, saying that while a midsize model was cast in 2015, she was eliminated in the first week. </p><p>Rosa's essay also pointed to the former host Chris Harrison's <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/02/magazine/the-bachelor-host-chris-harrison-i-know-why-youre-all-single.html?_r=0">response to The New York Times</a> in 2014 when asked if there would ever be a "chubby" lead on the show.</p><p>"No. You know why? Because that's not attractive," Harrison said. "I know that sounds horrible to say, but I know that at 42, in the eyes of television, I'm old and unattractive."</p><p>In 2018, Robert Mills, a senior vice president at ABC, <a href="https://www.wusa9.com/article/entertainment/entertainment-tonight/think-bachelor-arie-luyendyk-jr-is-boring-abc-exec-responds-to-critics-exclusive/65-522687745">addressed the issue in an interview with WUSA9</a>. He said the show would "absolutely" cast curvy people.</p><p>"A lot of it does revolve around who the lead is and who the lead wants to date," Mills added, saying he'd want to avoid casting a diverse body type just to see them "gone the first night."</p><p>Representatives for ABC didn't immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.</p><div type="image" title="ali fedotowsky" height="2996" width="3987" msid="88887081" hostid="261"></div><p>In an earlier interview with Insider, when asked about Cronin's viral TikTok, the <a href="https://www.insider.com/ali-fedotowsky-smuggled-phone-the-bachelorette-2021-2">"Bachelorette" star Ali Manno</a> (who said she hadn't seen the TikTok) also reflected on the franchise's lack of body diversity, saying she believed producers should make showing different body types a priority.</p><p>"That's something I haven't sat with and thought about a lot, but that's actually very, very true," Manno said of the lack of diverse body types. "I know that the show has made a commitment <a href="https://www.insider.com/bachelor-racist-chris-harrison-rachael-kirkconnell-2021-2">to diversity in ethnicity</a>. Maybe this is a call for the show to really make a commitment to diversity and size. Because I think that's just as important."</p>

The podcast launched in 2019 with Manno and Lindsay as the original hosts; <a href="https://screenrant.com/bachelor-happy-hour-rachel-lindsay-replacement-cohost-becca-kufrin/">Manno departed less than a year later</a>.<p>Manno said she realized she was putting herself "back out there in this 'Bachelor' nation world to be really picked apart" by fans. Lindsay left the podcast and said she would be stepping back from the "Bachelor" world in April 2021 to maintain her mental health, per <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORkhlpJ6nE0">Access Hollywood</a>.</p><p>As for Manno, she said she would "never say never" to returning to "Bachelor" nation but called <a href="https://www.insider.com/ali-fedotowsky-katie-thurston-matt-james-bachelor-2021-2">women who have remained involved</a>, like Kaitlyn Bristowe and Tayshia Adams "strong people," adding that they do their jobs with "grace" and she's "so proud of them." But the blogger's own goals have moved beyond "The Bachelor" franchise. </p><p>Manno got engaged to her "Bachelorette" season's winner, Roberto Martinez, in the finale, but they <a href="https://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/pictures/former-bachelor-and-bachelorette-leads-where-are-they-now/ali-fedotowsky-3/">broke up by November 2011</a> after more than a year together. Former 'Bachelorette' star Ali Fedotowsky said she'd feel 'fear' if her daughter ever decided to go on the reality dating show — even though she once supported the idea

<p><em></em></p><ul class="summary-list"><li>Ali Fedotowsky-Manno was on "The Bachelorette" in 2010.</li><li>Now she's a mom of two and prioritizing sun safety after a skin-cancer diagnosis.</li></ul><p><em>This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Ali Fedotowsky-Manno. It has been edited for length and clarity.</em></p><p>I was a child of the 1990s. I used to bake in tanning beds and not think twice about a sunburn. When I thought about skin health, I was focused on reducing wrinkles and looking youthful. But about five years ago, I noticed a spot on my stomach. It turned out to be skin cancer. </p><p>I was diagnosed with<a href="https://www.skincancer.org/skin-cancer-information/basal-cell-carcinoma/"> basal cell carcinoma</a>, a very common and highly treatable form of <a href="https://www.insider.com/signs-symptoms-skin-cancer-2018-5">skin cancer</a>. It sounds silly to say I feel lucky to have had cancer, but I do: I caught it early, when the cancer could be removed during an outpatient appointment. After that, I started using my<a href="https://www.instagram.com/ali.manno/?hl=en"> platform</a> to teach people about the importance of skin health. Most recently, I've partnered with Banana Boat to make sure that everyone knows how to protect their skin. </p><p>Now I'm meticulous about sun protection for me and my kids. On the rare occasion that I forget to apply sunscreen, my 6-year-old, Molly, will remind me before we leave the house. I love that she's prioritizing skin protection from childhood. </p><p>As women, we're often focused on how our skin looks. But at the end of the day, if you get skin cancer you might not have the pleasure of being able to age and get wrinkles. It's a gift to get older. I want my skin to look great, and more importantly, be healthy. That starts with applying sunscreen. </p><h2><strong>We're outside in the sun a lot</strong></h2><p>Sun protection is important to my family because we spend a lot of time outside. Want to know the secret to how influencers keep our homes so clean? We keep the messes outside!</p><p>Molly and her 4-year-old brother, Riley, love to play simple games. Recently we filled a tub with water, and I gave them each a cup and placed two pails at the other end of the yard. They spent hours running with their cups, seeing who could fill their pails first. </p><p>Right now, I'm at this magical parenting stage where I've passed through the physical exhaustion of the infant years, but I'm not yet at the mentally taxing preteen and teen years. I want to savor these moments.</p><h2><strong>I don't try to enjoy every moment</strong></h2><p>Of course, spending quality time with kids isn't always easy. Especially during the pandemic, moms spent a lot of time coexisting with their kids. We're getting through the day together, but we're not necessarily having fun. </p><p>I'm not going to lie, I keep some CBD on hand for the more challenging days. And I don't pressure myself to enjoy every moment. Instead, I focus on quality, not quantity. You can never be fully present with your children at all times. Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky-Manno: It took a skin-cancer diagnosis for me to think seriously about sun safety for me and my kids

<ul class="summary-list"><li>When you go on "<keyword id="274607" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="The-Bachelor">The Bachelor</keyword>" or its spin-offs, you're completely cut off from the real world.</li><li>At least, that's what ABC wants you to think — except <keyword id="1773731" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Ali-Fedotowsky">Ali Fedotowsky</keyword> revealed she smuggled in a phone.</li><li>However, she forgot to get an international plan, so she could barely use it.</li></ul><p>Much has been said about <a href="https://www.insider.com/bachelor-bachelorette-secrets-facts-2017-3#contestants-have-no-real-contact-with-the-outside-world-while-filming-8">how cut off contestants and leads feel</a> while they're on "The Bachelor," or any of its multiple spin-offs. <a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-betchelor/id1271840754">Derek Peth once said</a> men from JoJo Fletcher's season were able to use treadmills at hotel gyms to connect to the internet - that's how desperate they were.</p><p>Not for former "Bachelorette" star <a href="https://www.insider.com/bachelor-contestants-left-eliminated-themselves-2019-2">Ali Fedotowsky</a> though. When speaking with Insider as <a href="https://www.walgreens.com/search/results.jsp?Ntt=ali%20fedotowsky">part of her partnership with scünci</a> - she designed a line of hair accessories all under $10 available only at Walgreens - the sixth "Bachelorette" lead revealed she was able to sneak a phone into the mansion during her season.</p><p>When asked what she'd bring on the show now, Fedotowsky said she'd bring her line of accessories, "30 of each to give to all of the girls and ask them to post to their social medias later, since they're all going to have followings," because, according to her, "you always have to go on that show with a business mind."</p><p>But she <em>also </em>said she'd probably sneak in a cell phone - specifically one with an international plan.</p><p>"You can't have one ... When I snuck one in, I didn't get an international plan and I couldn't call anybody when we were international, which was like three-fourths of the season," she said.</p><p>During the season, they went to <a href="https://www.insider.com/skip-quarantine-and-testing-in-iceland-if-proof-had-covid-2020-11">Iceland</a> for the fifth episode and stayed international for the rest of the season.</p><p>When she <em>was</em> able to use it, "I think I used it to call my mom once and then I tried to use it for the internet a few times, but you're so exhausted by the time you get to your room. And I would open my phone and tried to use it for five minutes and immediately fell asleep, but I didn't actually use it much," she told Insider.</p><p>Fedotowsky added that, in her opinion, she thinks most people sneak in phones. But future "Bachelor" contestants, heed this advice - international plans are a must.</p>

Over the course of the season, Thurston emerged as one of the lone women who called out the <em>immense </em>amount of bullying and toxicity among the women. She also did something that's typically seen as a no-no: She told James, the lead, what exactly was going on in the house.</p><p>Insider spoke with Ali Fedotowsky - a <a href="https://www.insider.com/bachelorette-where-are-they-now-2016-8">former "Bachelorette" lead herself</a> and contestant on <a href="https://www.insider.com/bachelor-seasons-stars-ranked-2019-1">Jake Pavelka's season</a> of "The Bachelor" - while she was promoting <a href="https://www.instagram.com/scunci/?hl=en">her new line of hair accessories designed with scünci</a>. Fedotowsky gave it up for Thurston, and she said she hopes more women on the show are encouraged to be like Thurston - especially now that she was rewarded with an entire season herself.</p><p>"I have to give a shout out, raise the roof, scream to the hills, shout out to [Thurston] for just being so amazing and standing up against bullying," she told Insider in February. "Who thought the girl that showed up with the vibrator would be so awesome?"</p><p>During the season, there was generally a culture of bullying, slut-shaming, sex-worker shaming, toxic behavior, and insecurity that stood out to even the most long-time "Bachelor" fans. Five new women were brought in a few episodes into the season, sending the original contestants into a frenzy. One of these women, Anna Redman, took it upon herself to spread a (false) rumor that one of the new women, Brittany Galvin, was "having a transactional relationship with wealthy men" - aka, that she was an escort or some other type of sex worker.</p><p>Once this rumor was brought to Thurston's attention, she (one of the only women who <em>wasn't </em>openly bullying the new women) went to James and told him that there were rumors being spread that could potentially ruin people's lives, and that there was <a href="https://www.insider.com/bachelor-rachel-lindsay-victoria-larson-bullying-2021-2">generally a toxic environment among the women.</a> Normally, this is frowned upon - it's seen as "snitching" or tattling to the lead. However, Fedotowsky has a different opinion.</p><p>"What I really love about what [Thurston] did is, I feel like in past seasons, it's always been very taboo," she said.</p><p>"Even when somebody would go talk to the Bachelor or Bachelorette, there'd be [ominous] music playing in the background. Whereas this time it wasn't that way. It wasn't edited to feel that way and it didn't feel that way. It felt like Katie doing the right thing. She didn't go to Matt to try to benefit her relationship in any way. She basically said, 'What's happening here is going to ruin people's lives, and I don't stand for that,'" she continued.</p><div type="image" title="katie matt" height="1628" width="2171" msid="80777425" hostid="261"></div><p>"It wasn't about her. It wasn't about even her and Matt. It was about the other women and her standing up to the other women. And that was all it was. And I love that and I hope that that set the precedent for future seasons, for other women to stand up against bullying. And hopefully we won't see so much of what we are seeing this season in future seasons," Fedotowsky said.</p><p>She wasn't alone - many fans also applauded Thurston for doing the right thing. </p><p>Now Thurston has been named the next "Bachelorette" - and she can count at least one former lead as a fan.</p>

On season 19, contestant Jordan Branch got incoherently drunk at a cocktail party. After she was eliminated, <a href="http://www.tmz.com/2015/01/13/bachelor-jordan-branch-drinking-problem-video-producers-drunk/">she told TMZ</a> that "producers manipulated contestants by constantly refreshing their glasses."</p><p>Branch also said she had confided to producers that she was worried about over-drinking on the show, but that they did nothing to stop her from blacking out while taping and handing her more drinks.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Of course, the contestants don't have to drink, and show sources explained to&#xa0;TMZ that "contestants are free to make their own decisions about drinking, and sometimes those decisions are 'not good ones.'"</p><p>But this responsibility to make the right choice can be hard on contestants, especially alcoholics who are pushed to drink. "Bachelor" contestant and "Bachelorette" star Meredith Phillips, who later opened up about her alcoholism and drinking on the show, said it's hard to turn down.</p><p>"It's always right there," <a href="http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/bachelorette-star-meredith-phillips-opens-battle-alcoholism-live/story?id=19309685">Phillips told ABC News in 2013</a>. "There's a lot of booze."</p><p>Though she said it was her choice to consume it, it was too available&#xa0;for her to resist.</p><p>"It shouldn't be prevalent all the time," she said. "It shouldn't be available, you know? I mean, it was just too easy."</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Loveline host and addiction specialist <a href="http://www.etonline.com/tv/147585_encouraging_alcohol_use_on_reality_television/">Dr. Drew Pinsky told Entertainment Tonight</a> that he's treated alcoholics who have been on these types of reality TV programs and that it's not a good environment for them.</p><p>"What really disturbed me was, I was treating alcoholics who had been on reality shows, and they were very clear that, in spite of talking about their alcoholism, they were still encouraged to drink," said Pinsky. Even 36-year-old Viall - a reality TV veteran who mumbles his way through his quest to find love - takes a backseat week after week to the 24-year-old from Miami who "r<a href="http://www.thisisinsider.com/what-is-corinne-job-the-bachelor-2017-1">uns a multimillion-dollar business</a>" and models in her spare time.</p><p>While normally the expert producers on "The Bachelor" need to employ editing tricks to turn ordinary women into prime-time villains, Olympios needs no such help - she has known how to make headlines since night one.</p><p>Maybe you wouldn't want her as your closest friend, but she's easily one of the best things to happen to reality TV.</p><p>Here's why Corinne is the only reason to watch this season of "The Bachelor":</p><h3><strong>She knows what she wants.</strong></h3><p>From night one when she gave Viall a whole bag of "hug tokens," Olympios has been out to win the game. Not only was she the first woman to kiss Viall - an honor she aggressively pursued - but<span>&#xa0; </span>she continually interrupts the other women to spend time with Nick.</p><p>For his part,&#xa0;<span>Viall</span> seems to enjoy the effort that&#xa0;<span>Olympios</span> puts into their relationship, even giving her a controversial group date rose for making him feel special. And while the other women get quite upset with Corinne for interrupting them, Corinne pointed out that's the whole point of the reality show they're competing on:</p><p><span>"If you can't handle being interrupted, why did you come here?" she said directly to a group of women. "It's gonna get uncomfortable. It's gonna get crazy. It's gonna get weird. But you have to get used to this. […] We're here for one reason, and that's Nick. And you have to go and do what's good for you. No matter how it makes other people feel, you have to be there for yourself."</span></p><h3><strong>She's career oriented.</strong></h3><p>Olympios is quite vocal about her job outside of the "Bachelor" mansion.</p><p><span>"Listen, I'm not an idiot, I run a multi-million dollar company, and I'm not an idiot,"&#xa0;<span>Olympios</span> said to one of the women on the show.</span></p><p><span>As she explained in her "Bachelor" intro, Olympios helps run her family's online multimillion-dollar business. She's also a model and actress in her spare time, and has profiles on ExploreTalent and Model Mayhem, and even references her modeling and acting <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/corinne-olympios-7b379640"><span>on her LinkedIn page</span></a>.&#xa0;</span></p><p><span>Whether or not you believe Olympios really runs her family's business, I respect a woman for being on the show and for wanting people to know that she's a businesswoman. At the very least, it shows she has drive.</span></p><h3><strong>She thinks big.</strong></h3><p>While the other girls were excited for a pool party and barbecue with Viall,&#xa0;<span>Olympios</span> upped the ante by asking the producers to <a href="http://www.cosmopolitan.com/entertainment/a8610519/bachelor-recap-nick-viall-season-21-episode-3/">bring her a literal princess bouncy house castle</a>.</p><p>In other episodes, she&#xa0;has worn a trench coat and asked Viall&#xa0;to lick Reddi-wip off of her body, taken her top off in a pool in front of 10 other women, and interrupted contestants&#xa0;repeatedly.</p><p>In other words, she's playing the game on a whole other level. While the other women in the house are trying to have conversations with Viall, Olympios is thinking outside the box and it's helping her capture the viewers' - and Viall's&#xa0;- attention.</p><h3><strong>She's sexually confident.</strong></h3><p>As entitled and silly as&#xa0;<span>Olympios</span> can be, she has the utmost confidence in herself - particularly sexually. In an upcoming clip from later this season that quickly went viral, Olympios said, <span>"My heart is gold and my vagine is platinum" and spoke openly about wanting to sleep with Viall.</span></p><p>Of course,&#xa0;<span>her</span>&#xa0;sexuality quickly became a target for slut shaming early on in the season. One of the other contestants called her&#xa0;a "ho" after she was the first one to kiss Nick and many of them were shocked if not outraged that she took off her top with him in &#xa0;the pool.</p><p>But to&#xa0;<span>Olympios</span>'s credit, she didn't let the other women bring her down.</p><p><span>"Today was just a dream come true. I stepped out of my comfort zone, many times and angles," she said, before adding, "Dad would be proud, even though I was naked."</span></p><p><span>You do you, Corinne.</span></p><h3><strong>She's funny.</strong></h3><p>Say what you will about&#xa0;<span>Olympios</span>, but she's definitely not stupid. In fact, I have to agree with former&#xa0;Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky&#xa0;when she <a href="http://aliluvs.com/blog/2017/01/24/vanessa-raven-corinne/">wrote in a blog post</a> that Olympios's quick wit is one of the most likable things about her.&#xa0;</p><p><span>"I think Corrine is smarter than she lets on. It takes some wit to be that funny in my opinion," she wrote. "That said, her behavior is just terrible and I totally get why the girls are so over her. She's a scene stealer, and ABC knows it. There's a reason the network has&#xa0;stopped ending the episodes with a rose ceremony - who cares which long-haired brunette Nick will eventually propose to? - and instead focused on Corinne and her drama, whether she's sleeping through a rose ceremony or saying she'll punch a girl in the face.</p><p>It's okay if you don't agree with me. Ultimately, the whole reason Olympios&#xa0;makes for such good TV is because she's polarizing. A lot&#xa0;of fans can't stand&#xa0;her personality, or the fact that <a href="http://www.thisisinsider.com/who-is-corinne-nanny-bachelor-2017-1">she has a nanny</a>, or&#xa0;the fact that she's probably<a href="http://www.thisisinsider.com/corinne-villain-fake-bachelor-2017-1">&#xa0;faking it for the cameras</a>.</p><p>But at the end of the day, don't lie to yourself - Corinne is the only reason to watch "The Bachelor" this season.
