India's domestic air passenger traffic rose 9% to more than 1.27 crore in November, according to official data released on Friday. Last month also saw daily air traffic touching new highs multiple times. <keyword id="6354706" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indigo" source="Orion">IndiGo</keyword> remained the country's largest domestic carrier but its market share declined to 61.8% in November from 62.6% in October. However, none of the scheduled carriers had an On-Time Performance (OTP) score of more than 80% in November. Official data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday showed that airlines flew 1.27 crore passengers in November compared to 1.17 crore in the year-ago period. This marks a growth of 9.06% on an annual basis. "Passengers carried by domestic airlines during January-November 2023 were 1,382.34 lakhs as against 1,105.10 lakhs during the corresponding period of previous year thereby registering annual growth of 25.09% and monthly growth of 9.06%," DGCA said. The domestic market share of <keyword id="6358032" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="spicejet" source="Orion">SpiceJet</keyword> rose to 6.2% in November from 5% in October. Its OTP stood at 41.8% last month. <keyword id="2573" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="air-india" source="Orion">Air India</keyword>'s domestic market share remained unchanged at 10.5% in November while that of Vistara fell marginally to 9.4% last month. In November, the share of Akasa Air and AIX Connect remained unchanged at 4.2% and 6.6%, respectively. As per the data, Akasa Air topped the OTP chart at 78.2%, followed by IndiGo at 77.5% and Vistara at 72.8%. Air India's OTP was at 62.5% while that of AIX Connect and Alliance Air were at 69.7% and 66.1%, respectively. On-Time Performance (OTP) of scheduled domestic airlines is computed for four metro airports -- Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.

"Flying an advanced, environmentally progressive 737 MAX fleet with greater fuel efficiency and lower operating costs will enable Akasa Air to profitably serve the Indian market while passing those savings on to its passengers,” Stan Deal, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said. “This is indeed a symbolic milestone in the journey of Akasa Air, bringing us one step closer to the process of obtaining our AOP [Air Operator Permit] and leading to out commercial launch, focused on the task of delivering on our vision to transform India’s air transportation ecosystem, support the nation’s economic growth engine and help fellow Indians chase their dreams,” Vinay Dube, founder, MD and CEO of Akasa Air, said. It has already signed up 154 pilots for the airlines, about 26 of these pilots are already on the company’s payroll. Besides this, it has also signed up 115 cabin attendants and 14 engineers to join the company. The company plans to launch its first domestic flight in July this year. The domestic air passenger traffic reached 1232.45 lakhs in 2022, registering an annual growth of 47.05 per cent as compared to 2021, the <keyword id="6354705" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="directorate-general-of-civil-aviation" source="Orion">Directorate General of Civil Aviation</keyword> (<keyword id="6354787" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="dgca" source="Orion">DGCA</keyword>) said on Thursday. "Passengers carried by domestic airlines between January 2022 and December 2022 were 1232.45 lakhs as against 838.14 lakhs during the corresponding period of the previous year thereby registering an annual growth of 47.05 per cent and monthly growth of 13.69 per cent," the aviation regulator said. SpiceJet and Air India had an 8.7 per cent market share, shows the official data. During December 2022, a total of 408 passenger-related complaints were received by the scheduled domestic airlines. The major reasons for complaints are flight problems and refunds. Airlines have received a total of 408 complaints, out of which 401 (approx. 98 per cent) have been addressed, the DGCA data shows. It has been edited for length and clarity.I haven't traveled alone a lot — this was probably my second flight alone. My parents were worried about me because they think I'm a homebody.I recently started working after college and joined the YouTube team for creator marketing and strategy. There was a creator campaign going on, and their head office is in Mumbai, so I traveled from Delhi for that.The flight was in the air, and everything was going smoothly. Everyone was kind of asleep or just chilling, and suddenly, the cabin crew came up to all of us.Everyone was woken from their naps and asked if a piece of cabin luggage was theirs. To the last row, no one identified the luggage.I was sitting in row nine, so I could see the cabin crew working, and they seemed very confused. And suddenly, the captain announces that we're landing. Turns out, they were diverting to Ahmedabad, which is a good hour away from our destination.They said there was a security concern. And as a person who's not traveled a lot, I was like, "Shit, what's happening?"It took us 15 minutes to land. No one told anyone anything, and everyone was confused. We were asked to vacate the plane immediately.Everyone was supposed to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/japan-airlines-passengers-survived-because-abandoned-baggage-burning-plane-tokyo-2024-1">leave their luggage inside the plane</a>, but half of them took it. I left mine because the pilot himself asked me, and I couldn't say no. I put my phone and wallet in my overalls, and I left.We thought they just wanted to check something for 15 or 20 minutes, but thank God I took stuff because we were stranded there for like 12 hours.So we were on the runway, and there was a heat wave in Ahmedabad. It was just very hodgepodge.At this point, you're not a customer of the airline, you're a suspect.The police called out nine or 10 names who could match the handwriting. They took them to a separate area and made them do double and triple checks.Then they took us all in two different sections to write "Bomb on flight," I think 36 times — dividing your tissue into four and writing on alternate sides.Nothing is coming out of it. I think the problem was there was no protocol for this.After three hours, they finally allowed us to get food and go to the bathroom, surrounded by a lot of police.By 8 p.m., everyone had given up hope. This was also the time that everyone was trauma-bonded. I'm talking to aunties and people I've never talked to. We'd exchanged Instagrams. I'm like, "Oh wow, thank you for that compensation for the torture."It was a wild experience. I think people were frightened and afraid at the start because no one gave us any information. We just figured it out on our own. After that, everyone was like, "Hey, this is something we have to get through."

"The grant of the AOC is the final step of a comprehensive and rigorous process laid down by the DGCA and marks the satisfactory completion of all regulatory and compliance requirements for the airline's operational readiness," Akasa Air said in a statement. The airline added that it is the first airline whose end-to-end AOC process was conducted using the government's progressive eGCA digital platform. The process concluded with the airline having successfully conducted a number of proving flights under the supervision of the country's aviation regulator, the company said. "We now look forward to opening our flights for sale, leading to the start of commercial operations by late July. This will begin our journey towards building India's greenest, most dependable and most affordable airline," said Vinay Dube, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Akasa Air. Later this month, the airline will commence commercial operations with two aircraft, subsequently adding to its fleet every month.
