<keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> is leading with the highest hiring intent in certain sectors despite the ongoing global inflation and layoffs in the IT-tech sector, and close to 77 per cent of employers are keen to increase their resource pool in the services sector in the period of January-March 2023, a report showed on Tuesday. Overall, across services and manufacturing sectors, an average of 68 per cent of employers (65 per cent in FYQ3) have expressed a strong hiring sentiment, according to <keyword id="6381892" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="teamlease-services" source="Orion">TeamLease Services</keyword>, a leading people supply chain provider. For candidates who are looking to secure job opportunities in the services segment, some of the key sectors leading the hiring spree are e-commerce (98 per cent), telecommunications (94 per cent), educational services (93 per cent), financial services (88 per cent), retail (85 per cent) and logistics (81 per cent). The first three months of 2023 project a strong outlook, especially for fresh graduates and entry-level employees, with 79 per cent of employers willing to hire from this cohort. Opportunities for mid-level and senior level are also performing balanced. Large enterprises, followed by small and medium, are all indicating robust employment progression, the report said. "The ongoing global turmoil with mass layoffs, hiring freeze, and impending recession have significantly affected the services sector globally, especially the IT industry," said <keyword id="14708102" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="mayur-taday" source="Orion">Mayur Taday</keyword>, Chief Business Officer, TeamLease Services. However, the sentiment in India continues to be on an upward trajectory. "The government's push towards increasing monetisation ability, introducing <keyword id="44528" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="fdi" source="Orion">FDI</keyword> reforms, liberalising conventional satellite communication and remote sensing businesses to increase private sector participation has contributed to the employment growth," he added. In Metro and tier 1 cities, the hiring intent for the services sector is at an exceptionally high level (99 per cent), the report said. "With the 5G rollout, employers are already upskilling their current workforce for the upcoming 5G services. Over 7 in 10 employers keen to hire in services sector in India

Yet, there is a lot more evolution that’s to take place in this segment going ahead, say experts. In 2023, apart from continuing with the growth story in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, online shopping will also go deeper – which still has a lot of juice left. “Growth is expected to be led by new online shoppers - primarily from Tier 2/3 cities - and continued online migration of key categories including fashion and grocery. In fashion, 'social' commerce and direct- to-consumer brands are gaining share,” according to a Bernstein study. The mix has increased over the past 5-7 years – when e-commerce was largely concentrated in metro/Tier1 cities – to today, when Tier 2+ customers account for over 50% of the online shopper base, reveals Bernstein. The mix might continue to change with a bias towards non-metro shoppers. Along with robust sales from companies like <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/ecommerce/news/flipkart-group-leads-e-commerce-festive-sales-meesho-is-second-largest-contributor-in-order-volume-redseer/articleshow/94701015.cms">Meesho</a> that are focussed on shoppers beyond the metros, the overall festive sales this year also had a large share of such shoppers. According to the E-Commerce Festive Season ‘22 report by Redseer, over 64% shoppers came from Tier II cities of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/ecommerce/news/one-in-every-five-online-orders-had-a-kurti-or-saree-in-their-cart-redseer/articleshow/95598263.cms">India</a>. “The pandemic changed the way Indians shop, with Shopify research showing more than half (53%) of consumers from non-metros now preferring online shopping, and 80% of Indian consumers preferring to shop from their smartphone. So has e-commerce platform Meesho. “Video content, voice search and localisation will take precedence in 2023 and beyond. Localisation through the use of vernacular and visual content will be the key to win over customers in Bharat,” Meesho told Business Insider India. Quick e-commerce and D2C business to fly In urban areas especially consumers have become a tad more demanding, especially when it comes to the delivery of essentials. “Within grocery, we're already seeing a shift from slow e-Com to 'quick'/ instant delivery,” said the Bernstein study. That means quick commerce players like Blinkit, Zomato, <keyword id="9731725" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="swiggy-instamart" source="Orion">Swiggy Instamart</keyword> and Dunzo are expected to see growth in the coming year. The trend of ordering groceries online has survived the pandemic-time need for essentials while stuck inside. In fact, the lightning-fast speed of the service has caught the fancy of users who now call the non-quick versions as slow e-Com. “The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted purchase decisions, and most users started moving to e-Commerce and quick commerce for their purchases. “Out of stock” - Those three little words have the power to kill e-commerce. In fact, 52% of online shoppers will abandon all items in their carts upon learning that just one item they are attempting to purchase is not in stock,” said Ajoy <keyword id="6356986" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="thomas" source="Orion">Thomas</keyword>, vice president, TeamLease Services. Thomas expects India's quick commerce sector to grow 10-15 times in the next five years to become a $5 billion market by 2025, quoting industry reports. The e-commerce giant launched an augmented reality-powered Flipkart Camera, an AI-driven regional language interface and a virtual shopping platform called Flipverse. Its rival Amazon also started Amazon Live where shoppers can directly interact with experts who can showcase products, unveil top deals and answer customer queries in real time. Amazon engaged over 150 influencers to generate 600 live streams to help customers make an informed purchase decision. “India has the world's largest base of GenZ population. Their choices will redefine the future of the fashion retail industry in India, giving brands a great opportunity to create offerings to woo this customer base. Quick, personal, live and immersive – this is how e-commerce will be in 2023

This festive season is expected to see a two-fold increase in logistics and delivery alone as shoppers are expected to indulge in ‘revenge shopping’. In the season beginning October and lasting till December, companies will add 20% more to their current workforce base, and the pay scale will be 8%-10% higher than last year, according to human resources analytics firm TeamLease. Also, it expects India to have 372 million online shoppers by the end of 2022. “Overall five lakh additional jobs are expected to be added during India’s festive season. In the FMCG sector, the demand for Feet-on-Street salespeople (FOS) will be the highest. Companies will add 20% more to their current workforce base and even pay about 10% extra than last year,” TeamLease said. <keyword id="6354742" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="flipkart" source="Orion">Flipkart</keyword>’s Big Billion Days sale and <keyword id="18635" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="amazon" source="Orion">Amazon</keyword>’s Great Indian Festival are scheduled for later this year, to cash in on the festive buying spirit. In 2022, Flipkart aims to create 50,000 jobs across its centres, and is hiring at least 400 new employees every day at its Haringhata warehouse for its upcoming flagship sale. <keyword id="319719" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="myntra" source="Orion">Myntra</keyword>, one of India’s largest retailers, too is gearing up for its ‘Big Fashion Festival’. “Myntra has a robust last-mile delivery facility with 80% MENSA (Myntra Extended Network for Service Augmentation) partners. The additional incentivisation of the frontline delivery partners during the peak days will also go into creating a smoother consumer experience, particularly our Big Fashion Festival,” Nupur Nagpal, CHRO of Myntra told Business Insider India. Sales during the festive period generate huge revenue for e-commerce companies. According to wealth management firm Bernstein’s report, GMVs (gross merchandise value) of e-commerce firms during October sales reached $9.3 billion in 2021, a jump of 26% year on year. The New Shop, an omnichannel e-commerce company largely operating in North and West India, plans to have 1,000 stores in India by 2025 and is on a hiring spree as well. The company is a 24-hour convenience store that sells FMCG products. “The festive season has always been big for the retail industry. On an average, the consumer’s discretionary spending increases during festivals, which leads to more customers and gift giving. Hiring will increase by 10-15% and store operations are expected to rise 70-100%,” Aastha Almast, co-founder of The New Shop, told Business Insider India. The New Shop wants to focus on Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, and is expecting to hire over 200 employees in the cities of UP, Haryana and MP. TeamLease’s Thomas said that although there is an increase in temp hiring during the festive season, it is crucial that the e-commerce companies absorb these workers into the workforce permamently after the festivities are over. India’s unemployment rate had gone upto 23.5% during April 2020 according to <a href="https://www.statista.com/statistics/1111487/coronavirus-impact-on-unemployment-rate/">Statista</a> report. As of May 2022, it stands at 7%. The great Indian festivals post-pandemic are expected to lower this statistic further. But few are forcing them back. Over 77% of the employers want to give this option to its employees, as per the Future-Readiness of Organizations for a Hybrid World report. Organizations want their employees back as they find it difficult to evaluate employee performance. According to the survey, around 40.7% of respondents find employee performance and productivity measurement as a significant challenge in virtual work settings. And 18.15% of employers are planning to lease physical workspaces. “As the economy is slowly opening up and organizations are looking to welcome their employees back, they want to foolproof their workspaces and environment to accommodate the employee preferences in a way that also aligns with business sustainability and growth. Onboarding and implementation of new tools is also a top-order priority with organizations with 26.48% planning to employ remote employee performance apps,” the report says. To cope with the current challenges such as planning for a hybrid work environment and infrastructure, the companies are trying to come up with devising strategic approaches to mitigate the challenges. And 33% of the companies are rolling out talent development programmes that are flexible, personalized, modular, and recognize individualistic learning patterns for the employees, as per the report.
