<ul><li>The world as we know is going through a shift with new behaviors emerging. Brands are having to re-imagine their strategies and re-align.</li><li>We spoke to <keyword id="137473" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ajit-Kumar">Ajit Kumar</keyword>, Senior Vice President – Sales &amp; Marketing, Saregama on how the brand is modifying it's marketing strategies in this new world order.</li><li>Kumar tells us that moving forward, their communication will be more cause-based, emotional, attempting to bring more happiness to the family, and as well as the elderly. </li><li>He also tells us that brands need to follow the behavioral shift amongst consumers and communicate in the way they want to consume information, through the right platform and with messaging that is value-oriented, educational, and compassionate</li></ul>The world as we knew it, even till a few months back, has undergone a huge change. Consumer behaviour is undergoing a massive change. The way brands used to communicate with the consumers is changing. In adverse situation like this, it is more about building a connect and ensuring it stays rather than hard-selling a product. Consumers are now being careful about where they spend and therefore brands are having to work even harder to make themselves relevant to it's consumer's life. The way brands are using media is also changing. Many brands that used to be heavily dependent on traditional mediums now feel digital and social media is their best bet. For a brand like Saregama's Carvaan, the last few months have been about studying the shifts in <keyword id="401593" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="consumer-behavior">consumer behavior</keyword> and re-thinking and re-evaluating their strategy. We recently spoke to Ajit Kumar, Senior Vice President – Sales &amp; Marketing, Saregama, to understand how the brand has been navigating the last few months. Excerpts: Q) How have the lockdown months been for the organization? What kind of business impact have you seen? The COVID-19 outbreak is making both consumers and brands face a new reality. The world as we know is going through a shift with new behaviors emerging. In this scenario, as a brand, we had to re-think and re-evaluate our strategy to adapt to this new environment. While the quantum of the impact remains unknown, the relaxation of lockdown in places is helping us spread our reach. With a product like Carvaan, our key aim was not to market our product but to showcase how it can be your companion even in the darkest times. While we face the pandemic, one thing that has united people across the globe is the power of music, and we are happy to lend support wherever we can, with a product that is so close to our heart. Q) What has your strategy been to minimize the impact as an organization? As an organization, we are in diverse businesses like Films, YouTube, Licensing and Retailing of Carvaan. Digital consumption picked up tremendously during the lockdown while retail did suffer. But this did not bring the morale down, we utilized this time to train our sales team on our products through various online training sessions. We encouraged people to learn new things be it social media or do online trainings or re-plan and re-think our go to market strategy so that we are ready as soon as the markets open. We knew the moment things settle, this will help them as an individual and us as an organization. We actually took many projects during the lockdown and completed them without any delay. We have only seen productivity going up during these tough times. Now the things are opening up slowly, we are able to reap benefits of what we learnt and strategized in last few momonths. Q) Tell us a bit about your recent Ghar Le Aayein campaign. What was the thought behind donating Carvaans to old-age homes? Our campaign was created keeping in mind the current times, and human psychology. Though the unlock phase has begun, there is a fear of the unprecedented impact of the virus, especially on the elderly, who are more prone to it. So, they would be not left alone at home even as others start to step out. Through this campaign, we aimed to position <keyword id="5996910" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Saregama-Carvaan">Saregama Carvaan</keyword> as a companion to the elderly. The product will cater to and fulfill their need for entertainment, old melodies being an emotional connect. Children can gift their parents Saregama Carvaan, to help them cope with boredom during the times they are alone at home. We also took a step further by donating Carvaans to old age homes to spread smiles amongst the elderly, to help them find solace and companionship in these challenging times, and comfort them. Q) Speaking from a marketing perspective, how different was your strategy during the lockdown? The lockdown made people very digital-friendly and people started to spend a lot of time on social media and other online platforms. So we moved to digital completely. This included increased content consumption, content creation and experience sharing. We did a #stayhome series where people created content from home and shared with us, people shared their experiences of how they were using Carvaan to sail through these times, the consumption of our podcasts on Carvaan 2.0 went up. Infact, Bhagwad Gita was one of the highest heard podcast. So all in all, it was a very evolving experience and future strategies will be made keeping the changing behavior in mind. Q) Do you think marketing took a greater purpose during this adverse time? COVID-19 has changed the face of marketing – making it follow the pillars of empathy, trust, and necessity. Navigating through the new normal has forced brands to now focus on messaging on the lines of <keyword id="54209" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="compassion">compassion</keyword> and craft narratives which are reassuring and relatable to consumers in these unprecedented times. Now more than ever, consumers need to see brands action their communication – whether it is the core product promise or leading a cause to support communities. As brands, we need to follow the behavioral shift amongst consumers and communicate in the way they want to consume information, through the right platform and with messaging that is value-oriented, educational, and compassionate. With content consumption at an all-time high on social media, online platforms have become an important tool in the marketing mix to engage with consumers. Q) As a marketer, what has been your biggest learnings from the Covid-19 experience been? The global pandemic has left a long-lasting effect on every aspect of our lives. The virus along with the lockdown has fueled changes in the consumer and brand space altogether. This year has brought about some major learnings – in terms of harboring a simple life or valuing every moment. As a brand, we believe that we can now bring together our learnings to move forward and evolve. We are embracing the consumer bond and hoping to only grow it stronger in the future while keeping the feelings of nostalgia intact. Q) While the country is opening up, there's still some time for people to go back to retail shops. In such a scenario, how are you reaching out to consumers? Are you strengthening your presence on e-commerce? We are available on various e-commerce platforms already – like Amazon, Flipkart etc and we have our own ecommerce platform as well. Consumers can also place their orders on our website, where we offer deliveries across India, with utmost care. As consumers couldn’t find products in traditional outlets due to the ongoing pandemic, our approach shifted from information-first ads to a more sales-driven strategy where we communicated that the product is available on digital websites. Q) Innovation is important for Saregama as an organisation. Are you also planning to expand on your offerings or innovating on your current portfolio? As a brand, we want to constantly evolve and offer a vast portfolio to the consumers, which are more than just products – but also mean something to them. Innovating with impact has been our key goal, and we wish to pursue it further – with nostalgia at the core. However, as mentioned earlier, we have increased our digital portfolio, by introducing additional 11,000 songs – thereby increasing our digital presence in over 12 languages. Q) Saregama has been partnering with other platforms like Spotify and Facebook. What's been the thought? Will we see more such partnerships in the future? Are partnerships the way forward for the music industry? The ways and formats of content consumption has evolved rapidly over the past few years. Saregama holds an evergreen library of over 100 years and we are creating/ acquiring new music too. We want to be available possibly on all platforms which has an audience for our music. The industry is moving too fast, we would like to be aligned to changes. Q) What are your broad marketing plans for the rest of the year? What will your area of focus as a marketer be? The pandemic has witnessed the shift of advertising budget from traditional marketing like print, and ATL-outdoor activities to digital and mobile marketing, with the end-users being indoors, and preferring to consume content primarily on their mobile phones or TV. For the coming quarters, our <keyword id="489452" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="marketing-strategy">marketing strategy</keyword> would be more digitally-driven. There has been a rise in engagement and we are able to analyze real-time conversations and ROI for our brand. With a limited budget, you are concerned about spending every penny, which is where digital is working very well for us. Moving forward, our communication would be more cause-based, emotional, attempting to bring more happiness to the family, and as well as the elderly. In the post-COVID-19 world, brands need to think beyond and explore innovative tactics to reach out to their audiences. We, as a brand, will focus on two areas: Understanding consumer behavior and knowing analytics. It would be key as the way consumers interact/behave would be different in the post-COVID-19 world than during and pre-COVID-19 era.

<ul><li>In our latest interview series, we try to decode how brands and organizations are adapting to the new normal, and what the marketing world might look like in a post-Covid world.</li><li>In today’s interview, <keyword id="137473" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ajit-Kumar">Ajit Kumar</keyword>, Leader, <keyword id="2494692" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Deloitte-Digital">Deloitte Digital</keyword>, <keyword id="6356108" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="deloitte-india">Deloitte India</keyword> tells us how there will be a major pivot in how organizations work and brands engage in the near future. </li></ul>The Covid-19 global pandemic has brought about a lot of changes around the world. Not only have most of us been pushed to stay indoors, there has been a huge change in the consumption patterns of people across the world. More and more businesses are now trying to strengthen their online presence as that is where brands can still easily access their consumers. The world of advertising has been hit too. Mediums like OOH, Experiential and Print are suffering as people are stuck in their homes. On the other hand, mediums like Television and Digital are witnessing a surge, due to people’s increasing time spent on both. These are opening up avenues for brands, who are experimenting with these mediums. However, while the overall advertising pie may shrink this year, it is also giving the advertising industry as well as brands an opportunity to open up its doors to experimentation. Food aggregators and grocery delivery platforms are experimenting with contactless deliveries. Contactless retail might also become a reality in the near future. The way we do business might see a complete overhaul. In order to get a sense of what more changes can we anticipate in the advertising and marketing ecosystem in the near future, we reached out to Ajit Kumar, Leader, Deloitte Digital, Deloitte India. Here’s what he had to say: Q) The Covid-19 lockdown pushed brands and organizations to make use of technologies that while being already available, hadn't been used effectively till now. Do you think the way organizations worked till now will see a complete overhaul in the post Covid-19 world? This pandemic has largely pushed everyone indoors and everything online. Businesses and their customers overnight had to rethink how to satisfy needs without exposing people to the virus. Once-simple things such as shopping for groceries, getting a prescription filled, or seeing a doctor for routine matters now require higher levels of investment in digitization to keep people safe. Home is the new storefront for customer engagement. Factories are the new lego blocks, being reconfigured overnight to produce new needs of customers. Supply chains are being deconstructed and reconstructed to match supply and demand. Digital systems that might have been nice-to-have turned into must-haves on account of the pandemic. As a result, digital adoption and hacks have accelerated to meet the customers where they are, creating experiences that are virtual and usually better and hence could become the next normal. Brand and organizations that are agile and digitized are seen to be thriving and majority of the rest are digitizing rapidly. When such changes bring efficiency and better experience, its likely to be irreversible. This definitely marks a major pivot to how organizations work and brands engage. Q) In the last few years, marketers have shifted focus towards customer experience rather than product and innovation. Will this continue to be a brand's area of focus even once the lockdown is lifted? Focus on customer experience is expected to be more than ever before. Brands would have to focus not just on delivering superior customer/ user experience but elevating human experience. Done right, emerging digital offerings for newly prioritized human needs have the potential to replace in-person interactions but still maintain the human touch. This is likely to drive better connections, loyalty and trust. Customers today are seen to be generally anxious, scared and value safety and trust. Brands need to reassure them to retain their loyalty. The products and services need to evolve rapidly and follow to deliver that promise. For e.g., many grocery stores are offering touchless delivery, order and pay online and pick up at your doorstep. Or if you’re in a car, get your order placed in the trunk by the curb-side. By putting your customers’ interests first, this can be a time for a company’s brand to lead. Q) The current situation has shown us the limitations of a few mediums like OOH and Experiential. Do you anticipate more brands to take a digital-first and digital-only approach in the post-Covid world? The current situation has triggered a digital up and physical down trend. It has become imperative that every solution that brands think of implementing from now on needs to have a lens of "digital first mindset", this is where everyone should have started long ago. Experiential marketing of the future is likely to see the emergence of mixed reality channels. Brands need to identify and optimize the correct marketing mix of web, mobile and digital infused offline channels based on their industry / sector. Q) How do you think this situation will change the way brands market themselves? The current situation has gifted organizations and humans a rare moment for true introspection. As we emerge from this crisis, we must re-evaluate why we exist in this changed world and what value we truly create. Brands have to demonstrate that they care for not just their own sales/profits but show empathy towards the people - employees, customers, suppliers, and others. As brands reconnect with their true purpose, and align with their customers values, higher emphasis on social impact and environment will follow, consistent with the expectation in the next normal. Q) If you were to give a few marketing tips to brands to help them get their marketing strategies right in the times of crises, what would they be? Firstly, customers today want brands and businesses to show how they are protecting employees, paying it forward and helping stop the spread of the disease. Marketing messages should address these aspects in an authentic manner, tying it with their core purpose. Secondly, there are several viral topics and initiatives emerging. Brands need to be alert and deliberate in identifying which ones they want to be associated with to capture the mindshare of their existing and prospective customers. Last, but not the least, it is extremely important for brands to review their creative content to demonstrate sensitivity (handshakes, crowds) to the existing situation and next normal.

Marketing in the times of COVID-19: Deloitte India

Amid the rising chorus for boycotting Chinese products and the government's proactive steps to lower dependence on imports, India's growing mobile and electronics industry seems to be at the receiving end of the sudden aversion to imports from the northern neighbour. In a letter to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the Indian Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) has said that all China-origin imports of the electronics industry have come under adverse action by the customs at the ports without prior warning, which has impacted the supply chain. "There was refusal to clear followed by delays, and now, talk about 100 per cent examination. The logistics of seamless movement is in total disarray," ICEA Chairman Pankaj Mohindroo wrote in the letter. In another letter to Ajay Bhushan Pandey, Secretary, Department for Revenue, and Ajit Kumar, Chairman, Central Board of Indirect Taxes &amp; Customs (CBIC), ICEA has noted that there is an across the board system delay in assigning DoE numbers, and queries are being raised for regular materials and all shipments are being subjected to open examination, including opening of each box and repacking, among other issues. ICEA noted that essential parts, components and accessories required for manufacturing in the 200 plus factories which came up following the adoption of 'Make in India', 'Digital India' and 'Phased Manufacturing Programme' (PMP) in the mobile industry have been impacted. The industry body raised concerns in the letter to the FM that if the supply chain is broken, there will be severe shortage of essential communication equipment such as smartphones, tablets and laptops required for the health network, work-from home and online education, since alternative supplies are not available in the local and global markets amid the Covid-19 outbreak. Mohindroo noted that these goods are contributing valuable customs duty and IGST to the Central and state exchequers. He also mentioned that companies have received word from Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi airports about the new examination procedure for all China origin consignments of being subject to 100 per cent examination, and urged the FM that the 100 per cent examination of only China origin goods be stopped so that the supply chain moves without hurdles. "There are enough checks on inputs in the system, and there is little likelihood of any danger from China origin imports. Of course, dumping actions have to be checked, and this is best done by the law," he said.

'Adverse' customs actions 'without prior warning' hit Indian mobile industry

(Eds: Adding quotes) New Delhi, Jul 1 () Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday asked GST officers to foresee the issues faced by domestic businesses and address them proactively to help them compete globally and build a self-reliant India. In a message to tax officers on the third anniversary of the rollout of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Sitharaman also said there is scope for easing compliance further for taxpayers, especially MSMEs, and simplifying tax administration for making it easier to do business. Asking taxmen to focus on the clarion call by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', she said the GST administration will have a large role to play for this motto of self-reliance. "We must foresee the issues faced by our business community and proactively address the same to enable them to compete on a global scale. Only by this proactivity can we ensure much needed economic growth in near future," she said in her message on the occasion of GST Day 2020. GST, which subsumed over a dozen local taxes, was introduced on July 1, 2017. Since then, the GST process has been simplified and return filing made easier, especially for small businesses. The GST administration has also introduced an SMS-based return filing system for 'nil' filers. Sitharaman said more efforts are required to ease compliance further for taxpayers, adding that the government is committed to continuing these reforms in the future. "We must strive to make the tax administration so simple that taxpayers find it easy to comply with all their tax obligations. This is the true essence of 'ease of doing business' as far as tax administration is concerned," she said. Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur, in his message, said much more still needs to be done for simplification of tax administration and easing compliance. "Return filing process needs to be made easier and processing of return and allowing input tax credit needs to be made faster. More handholding of the trade by GST officers is required," Thakur said. Sitharaman also said the COVID-19 pandemic has led to some disruptions in economic activities in the country and congratulated the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and its officers for handholding taxpayers during this crucial time and disbursing record amount of refunds to ease their cash flow. According to Deloitte’s survey, business leaders need to refine their approach to deliver a more holistic experience to their customers, employees and society. Speaking about the evolution of customer engagement strategies, <keyword id="137473" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ajit-kumar" source="Orion">Ajit Kumar</keyword>, Leader, Customer and Marketing - Consulting, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP said, “The marketing trends endorse the view that customer centricity needs to be at the core of all our strategy and innovation. Businesses will thrive and stay relevant by understanding customer expectations and creating exceptional customer experiences. Moving away from cookies to designing human-first data experiences in a hybrid world supercharged with AI is the way forward. The conscious and conscientious Indian consumer demands the best of service and quality, and purpose builds credibility.” The survey lists down the following trends for businesses of the future: <ol><li>Purpose — a beacon for growth: Many businesses are redefining their value proposition and how they make an impact beyond profit through “purpose,” as consumers are prioritizing price and quality in purchasing. For high-growth brands purpose not only inspires product and service delivery, but also guides employee decision-making and corporate social responsibility investment strategy. With the growing remote workforce, collaboration should be a priority in helping ensure these new voices and skills are fully embedded within the organization and marketers can create pods of various skill sets, such as data scientists, programmers, graphic designers, and creatives, to work on strategic objectives.</li><li>Meeting the customer in a cookieless world: Growth leaders are rethinking customer marketing and data strategy in a rapidly changing digital world. Marketers should look to strengthening the relationships with partners, such as tech giants and media publishers, to gain access to their walled gardens and corresponding data insights.</li><li>Designing a human-first data experience: Consumers are increasingly wary of brands that seem to follow their every move and there is a fine line between helpfulness and intrusiveness when it comes to consumer data. The abundance of customer data available can lead to a paradox within organizations, with marketers seeking to use that data to create better customer experiences and chief information security officers (CISO) working to adhere to privacy regulations. The CMO should work with the CISO to cultivate customer trust through better data practices, designing experiences that create value, provide transparency, and empower customers to control their own data journey.</li><li>Elevating the hybrid experience: Now that brands are more adept at digital delivery, the next challenge is providing the best integrated physical and digital, or hybrid, experiences. Businesses can elevate their hybrid experiences by expanding choices, integrating feedback, and investing in the technological infrastructure that can bring these design principles to life.</li><li>Supercharging customer service with AI: A dynamic experience for customers means delivering the assistance and information they need, when, where and how they want it. By designing and deploying an AI strategy that helps brands meet customers in their moment of need, marketers and customer service leaders can create an end-to-end customer experience that seamlessly blends AI and human service — ultimately, to better serve their customers and their bottom line.</li></ol>Ashvin Vellody, Partner, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP said, “The 2022 Global Marketing Trends report provides a blueprint for action for Indian businesses. The themes highlight a clear call to action on two levels: one, purpose and human centered marketing strategies will work - a clear roadmap on how to translate purpose driven marketing and a human first data experience by showcasing this in every customer interaction to build trust and connection with the customers of the brand; and second, technology at the core of marketing transformation - acknowledging that the complexity of providing world class customer experiences can only be done by an active, integrated use of a set of digital tech to simplify, integrate and provide meaningful insights.” Methodology To ensure a globally relevant, cross-topic understanding of marketing and the customer experience, Deloitte conducted two global surveys and 18 in-depth interviews with global executives. The “Global Marketing Trends Executive Survey” polled 1,099 C-suite executives from global companies and asked chief executive, marketing, information, finance, operating, legal, and human resource officers their thoughts on a variety of topics driving the evolution of the marketing function. As this report focuses on marketing and customer experience leaders, 50% of the respondents consisted of chief marketing officers or those with similar titles (such as chief experience officer and chief growth officer), with nearly equal distribution across the other C-suite roles. The “Global Marketing Trends Consumer Survey” polled 11,500 global consumers, ages 18 and above, in May 2021 across 19 countries: United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, South Africa, Sweden, United Kingdom, Italy, Ireland, France, Spain, Turkey, Switzerland, Denmark, Portugal, Japan, India and China. Separately, executive interviews were conducted throughout 2021 and involved 18 executives who either currently or previously held chief marketing, customer experience, or executive officer roles. Their insights were key to uncovering the trends included in this report.

 In another video that went viral, a TikTok users is seen climbing out of, what looks like, a moving Delhi Police van to do push ups on the roof.  Consequences While the nurses in Odisha claim it was only a ‘mistake’, the Chief District Medical Office (CDMO), Ajit Kumar Mohanty, stated the videos constitute ‘extreme medical negligence’.  In the case of the Delhi Police van being used a make-shift gym, the authorities released a <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/trending-news/story/delhi-police-vehicle-not-used-in-viral-tiktok-video-1556762-2019-06-26">statement</a> saying that the vehicle was, in fact, not an official police vehicle nor was the video shot recently. They claim that the car belongs to a private contractor who had been hired by the police for ‘certain duties’, pointing out that the individual in the video is not the car owner, but a friend of the contractor. Who’s to blame? TikTok has no official comment on the matter but they reiterate that users are urged to follow the community guidelines before uploading any video. The <a href="https://support.tiktok.com/en/privacy-safety/community-policy-en">terms and conditions</a> state that TikTok is ‘simply NOT the place post’ content that depicts dangerous acts or those that involve illegal activities. They also have a grievance officer for India, Anuj Bhatai, in place so that if users spot any video that violates the community guidelines, it can be reported using the official channels. With a win in nine seats and leads in three others, the CPI(ML) on Tuesday is all set for an impressive performance in the Bihar Assembly elections. The <keyword id="6360542" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="communist-party-of-india">Communist Party of India</keyword> (Marxist-Leninist), often working in the margins of mainstream politics, fielded 19 candidates, most of them students and youth leaders, in the elections. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="79142084" title="Bihar Election Results 2020: With 40 seats still hanging in the balance, NDA widens its lead but RJD continues to be the single largest party" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> According to the latest trends as of 11:50 pm, CPI(ML) has won nine of the 19 seats and is leading in three. The CPI(M) which competed on four seats has won two seats, and the CPI which contested in six seats has also won two seats. With the win in nine seats and leads in three others, the CPI(ML) hopes to be the biggest gainer in the Grand Alliance. In the 2015 assembly election, the CPI(ML) had bagged three seats. It had won seven seats in the 2005 polls. The party secured six seats in the 2000 election and in 2010, it had failed to get any seat. "The leads so far are on expected lines and we hope to catch up in three more seats. This was a different kind of election. This was more of a people's movement. We banked on young candidates like student leaders, candidates who were part of farmer struggles and working class people. That seemed to have worked. "The 25-point campaign charter of the Mahagathbandhan is the demands emerging in the course of the teachers' movement, skill workers' movement over the last few years. The Left parties have set the agenda, the people of Bihar set the agenda for us. This is a big gain for the Left," CPI(ML) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya said. Party leaders also highlighted how cadres worked among the poor, became first responders in crisis among their constituents and led movements against unemployment, corruption in education and farm rights, to gain the trust of voters. "We have been working with the poor in the state since the 1990s, mainly with the Dalits and the EBCs. We have played the lonely vocal opposition voice in the Vidhan Sabha on the rights of the poor. Over the last five years, we have built an image which is based on goodwill and faith. Electoral victories are not just about numbers, it is about chemistry. This time things came together. "This election, wherever the RJD and CPI(ML) have come together, the Grand Alliance has done well," N Balaji, the national president of CPI(ML) students' wing All India Students Association, said. On his party's decision to go with the RJD despite being opposed to it earlier, Balaji, who campaigned extensively in Bihar, said the party (RJD) currently led by Tejashwi Yadav and the one led by his father Lalu Prasad were "two different entities". CPI(ML) leaders also pointed out that this was perhaps the first time that the youth and student leaders had actively participated and some even contested the elections. Out of the 19 candidates that the party fielded this time, six are under 35 years of age and 10 are below 50. Among the party's winning candidates, Sandeep Saurav, 33, won from Paliganj constituency after defeating the JD(U) candidate. Saurav, a former JNUSU general secretary and an AISA activist, gave up his job as an assistant professor to fight the polls. CPI-ML's other candidate Manoj Manzil, 36, won by over 50,000 votes from Agiaon. He was earlier arrested after filing his nomination from the constituency. Manzil is known for leading the 'Sadak Par School' movement in Bhojpur against unemployment. He is also a prominent leader among the Dalit community. Ajit Kumar Singh (34), who won the Dumraon seat, is the state president of Revolutionary Youth Association. He is a former AISA Bihar state secretary and has completed his doctoral studies in history of farmers' agitation in Bihar.
